I went into recovery, wiped data, cache, tried anything i could think of.

well u might want to start by downloading a Stock rom and then simply copy it over to your sd card and flash it via recovery.

Check the Wiki. That's what it's there for. Anyway,http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=685835
The link posted above will get you back to the shipped rom. (You will lose root) I'm not sure if that's what you want

Look under stock with root. My suggestion would be this.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=697636
When i try flashing the rom, this is what happens.
Install from sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:No signature (114 files)
E:Verification failed
Installation aborted.
Hellpppp

Try this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=685835
That will give you the stock shipped ROM, no root.
Then do this

3 clicks to root.
I want to get an Evo for my wife now, but with the new OTA issues, I'm worried that we won't be able to get hers to tether, at least for a while. Or can you flash a new fully updated Evo with the older original ROM and go from there?

The stock ROM is an executable file. Just save it to the desktop (or wherever) on your computer and double click.

Might also be a driver issue, you could try uninstalling and re-installing HTC Sync.
Here's where you can get it from

[Q] Problems with Odin - Stuck at "setup connection..."

Hi guys. I've got a problem..... I tried flashing CWM 6.0.3.4 to my Wonder, I open Odin, I choose files (Ancora.ops and CWM), Odin recognises my phone, but when I press "Start", the program gets stuck at "<1> setup connection..."
I tried changing USB cable, port, even Odin (I tried 4.43 - 4.38 and 3.98), but nothing has changed..... I am running Windows XP, and I have installed only Samsung USB Drivers, without Kies. But, as said before, Odin recognises my Wonder..... even tried on another XP computer, and have the same result...... please help me

Lol bro he's unrooted and trying to flash cwm. Don't you think it's pretty obvious he's using stock rom?
Bro, you have to root it first, only then you should flash CWM. Because you can't root using cwm. Anyway, root first then flash via terminal emulator. Should work.
