Will anyone that has installed the stock JRN84D ROM from this thread, know if it will update OTA when subsequent updates come from Google?
I've asked in the thread, but the answer has got lost somewhere in the mire I'd imagine.
I'd assume so, considering its the same build as the Google I/O attendees are getting. Would assume they would OTA them, but they may expect that because they're developers, they would update themselves.
Nobody knows apart from El Goog.
As I understand it, no. You only get ota's if you're on the most recent official stock rom. You will only be able to install the ota if you have not changed anything on the official rom. I may be wrong but from experience that's what I think

You just flash back to stock rom to get the updates. But the point is once rooted your rom of choice will be updated probably faster than the Google update gets pushed to your phone.
^ This!!!
And why have a galaxy nexus if you want to go back to stock for ota? Its a development device....use the roms the devs release for it...lol.
Do I understand this correctly? Clockwork mod recovery with stock ICS will not give OTA updates from Google???

Yes...although im not sure why this concerns anybody. As fast as development is moving on this device, the devs will have updates out as fast or faster than google releases them via ota.

The problem with roms is that it's not 100% stable. I came from htc dinc, i havent seen any stable rom for it.

^Made me laugh.
You can flash the official roms from google with cwm. This way you have your updates faster.
But I should choose a developer rom they have awsome features.

Sorry for even having to ask this question but this is my first Android device coming from ios. I found mixed results everywhere online.

The custom ROMs themselves will be updated to the latest Android releases as they come out.

If you mean OTA (Over The Air) updates then no you will not. In order for OTA update to install you need the stock recovery, not Clockwork.
However once the updates are released the developer of the Rom you are using will update also and you can then flash the latest version.
Hey,
The great Videotron is still running on 4.0.1 and im pretty anxious to get 4.0.4, wondering if anyone has gotten the update yet.

Its not dependent on your carrier, its dependent on the build of yakju your phone has on it. You're better off finding that out and associating that build with the discussion.
Baseband version:
I9250UGKL1
Build number:
ITl41F.19250UGKL1
Sorry, new to all this android stuff. But not getting major software updates really enervates me.

Don't see anything about yakju.

Videotron is a Canadian carrier, so that would presumably be yakjuux. No other update other than yakju appears to be live yet.
Canadian yakjuux is now at 4.0.4 actually, same as Yakju.
I'm running a GNex on Rogers.
Keep checking. Check threads for an OTA link or something.

Hey dice62,
Could you elaborate on what an ota link is? Like I said I'm new to this.

Did you actually get an OTA update or did you update manually from that thread? Only one person, OP of that thread, has actually reported getting an OTA for yakjuux. Otherwise it appears to be a leak or accidental release. The version and kernel are older than yakju, and OP even said he got the notification a week before Google even announced 4.0.4.
The url is there, I just view it as more of a curiosity than 'live'.
Edit:
He's talking about this thread:

A collection of update url's and how to install them are here:

How do you know whether you're running jakju or jakjuux?
Also, what are advantages of rooting a phone if it voids your warranty? How easy is it to do? Can you unroot?
Definitely don't expect someone to make a writeup about it, but a link to a "how to" and faq would be awesome.

Yakju*
use this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.cbruegg.officialupdate
If "Google" then you're yakju. If "Samsung" then you're some yakjuxx variant.

You don't have to root to flash yakju. just unlock the bootloader and flash images. It doesn't void your warranty. If you do choose to root, yes you can unroot and always restore back to stock.

People have literally been flashing these to yakju for months now. There are threads and step-by-step how-to's all over.
Hey Guys I'm New To All This Rooting And Mod Stuff. My Device Is Currently Running JB 4.1.1 YAKJUXW, I Still Didn't Get The 4.1.2 OTA Or 4.2 OTA. I'm Planning To Upgrade My Device To 4.2 Manually From The YAKJU ROM Available In The Google Developers Site. Can Somebody Help Me In Doing This.
Thanks In Advance.

There's a guide here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25477039
Its not rooting or modding. What you are doing is returning it to stock condition. My preference is to use Linux as no drivers are required - you can simply download one file from the developer page, extract and flash.
when will yakjuxw receive 4.2 update officially?

Your guess is as good as everyone else's on that. It's Samsung who pushes out the updates for the regional yakju variants and they don't announce when.

Thats exactly what I've done! Google for yakjuxv to yakju there are several ways...
DL the nexus root toolkit there is even a tutorial inside the program for how installing the right drivers. For me the third manual way was the only one working.I actually changed the yakjuxv to takju and (4.1.1 to 4.1.2) and then got the 4.2 update OTA.

And what did you use for upgrading only to 4.1.2 takju? i think this method is best, since you get 4.2 OTA meaning you aint using a fake version for the galaxy nexus

I'm trying to find 4.2.1 ROMs to flash, but having a hard time telling which ROMs are 4.2 unless it says it in the thread title. Is that the only way to really tell? I tried Google but I don't want to download something not for sprint. Any advice?

Read the entire op. It will say based on for example LJ7 which is sprints latest official version of 4.1.1.

Like what he said; it's in the title of the thread / OP.
Though if you're looking for 4.2.x, they'll be only AOSP roms as of now. And please only flash sprint roms.

I was just looking at that one and considering it. Think I will! Thanks everyone. To update my prl, radio I need to flash back to stock and unroot right? Not sure if I need to do that or not..
You don't need to unroot, you just need to be on a TW rom for prl and profile update. To update modems(radios) just find a zip you can flash in recovery.
