I have this small issue with my HTC Desire and the Parrot CK3000 Evolution. Until now, everything works perfectly (calling, sending contacts, voice dialing, ending calls,...)
However I have one small issue. When I enter my car, and my phone is locked, the Desire will not pair with the Parrot. From the moment I activate the screen, pairing is done within a few seconds. I already tried to leave it there for half an hour, no pairing, touched the screen, pairing within a few seconds.
It looks to me like the bluetooth is not active / alive when the phone is locked (or in sleep). From the moment the pairing is done, everything works fine, also when the phone is back in lock / sleep.
Anybody has anything similar or has a solution for this? I searched the market for some kind of Bluetooth-keep-alive application, but could not really find it...

I have a similar situation with my Audi A5 (factory BT kit).
It will connect when the phone is locked (screen off etc) but it can take anything from 1 to 10 minutes before it does connect.
Like yourself, my Desire connects immediately if the phone is not locked.
Strangely, it appears to work OK in my Mazda MX-5 which has a Kenwood DNX8220BT system (Bluetooth, SatNav, Ipod, coffee maker etc) - and the Bluetooth is a Parrot system. Having said that, I haven't used the MX-5 much since I got my Desire so it might not be a representative sample.
There is definitely something amiss though.
I have a Parrot CK 3100, and whilst I am happy to report that I do not have the same problem as you, I did have a problem syncing my contacts.
Check out this site, and download the software to udate to the latest firmware. You will need a laptop with either built in bluetooth, or a seperate bluetooth dongle.

I updated the firmware on mine, and now my contacts sync properly.
There is a good chance that updating could fix your connection problem as well.
Sorry forgot to add, that updating the kit really is a doddle, but their software is Windows 32bit ONLY and definitely no MAC!
Thans pergolesi, I hope your suggestion workshop, I will try it when I have some time one of the next days.
However I still think it has something to do with the Desire, since syncing workshop perfectly when Desire is not locked...

I don't know about the Bluetooth but I know my wifi deactivates after about 5 minutes when it's locked even though I have it set to never turn off. Maybe the Bluetooth is doing the same.
Perhaps not much help, but I sometimes play music from my Desire on my car headunit using Bluetooth streaming, and that continues to work fine when the screen goes off and the phone is locked. It also still responds to commands from the headunit (skip, pause, etc).
Once it's connected, everything works OK for me as well, it just is the connecting moment which apparently does not always work

Can I ask what year your A5 is? I've got a 2010 A3 and BT doesn't work properly with my Desire I can get it to pair, but then it will disconnect a few minutes later and the only way to reconnect seems to be to unpair/repair or switch the car off/on. When it IS working it can make calls, etc. fine - but I just can't get it to stay connected I tried my Audi dealer but they just said it's not on the Audi list and there's no update to support it, so interested to hear you got it working on your A5.

My A5 is a 2008 model with SatNav and therefore MMI High. The Desire paired straight away with no problems and both the car and the phone remember each other - it just takes awhile sometimes for one or the other to realise it and connect.
I'm pretty certain that it is the phone that has the problem as I had no such problems with several Sony Ericsson phones previously.

Thanks - interesting. I wonder how many different BT stacks Audi run - I was hoping they'd share some common code and therefore be updated quickly but it sounds like this isn't the case given that it's working fine on your A5. Thanks for the info though!
can anyone tell me if I can update the Bluetooth in my HTC Desire or have more profiles. the phone is branded o2 but can be rooted. I dont want to change anything else in the ROM just make the bluetooth connect automaticaly & reliably to the car.
There are newer software builds available but have no mention of updating bluetooth.
Ther are no OTA updates available.
Software Number is 2.14.207.1

Can't you just pair the 2 devices together? I personally don't use Bluetooth so no idea on that aspect. Also, the software is so out of date because o2 cba to release and update. There are major updates since yours. It might be worth considering to root so then you can flash a newer ROM, or infact, you don't need to root and just use an RUU. With the newest software. No need to root it then and less chance of it mess up.

I still have some strangeness with Bluetooth. From what I read there are some updates in Honeycomb and maybe gingerbread. But I don't have a feeling what you are looking for is in FroYo

Well I have a Kenwood Headunit with Bluetooth and the connection to that using stock Froyo and LeeDroid showed some interesting results. Gaps in the phonebook for instance. However, putting a 2.3 ROM (Ginger Villain) sorted that out, its fine now.
Bluetooth depends on the other device too.
What exactly is the problem you are having?
What Car do you have?
What Bluetooth system is installed (is it standard)?
I have used my desire in a number of cars (Vauxhall, Ford, BMW) without any isses with pairing, using the Phonebook,etc. is a different matter.
Personally, I have just received a new BMW 528i, and it doesn't get on well with my Desire at all.
It pairs OK and can use both the phone and music, but when I leave and return to the car, it just refuses to auto-connect again, and I have to go through the pairing procedure again.
Oh, except one - the time I went back to the garage to 'complain' about it and ask for advice, when it worked perfectly. Until I got home again!
Have experimented with my old Nokia N85, and that works fine, too. So it's either the Desire or an incompatibility between it and the car.
Oh, my Desire is running MCR r9 (FroYo) at the moment. Are there known issues with this? Info on any Bluetooth updates I could apply would be gratefully received!
i have to enter my pairing code every time i connect my bt headset - i took this to be a quirk for the moment - hoping its fixed in 2.2.2/2.3.x etc.

Im having this same problem also with a Pioneer Head Unit in my car.
Bluetooth has always been troublesome as it doesn't auto connect. It will connect if I either manually click on "Pioneer Head Unit" or turn Bluetooth off and on (which I automate with tasker).
The pin thing is new and happens with all roms I have tried except LeeDroid, (which I prefer not to use as I don't like sense much). Leedroid still has the auto connect problem.

I can connect far more reliably if I initiate the connection from the phone than from the car.
Likewise, if BT is switched off on the phone and then turned on after the car is on, then it sometimes works, too. Certainly don't need to re-pair anywhere near as often.
Can I ask how you use Tasker to automate the BT switching? I've not used that (I use Setting Profiles instead which I understand does roughly the same thing), so am curious what kind of rule you have that's useful for this.

I use the following rules:
On wifi connection turn off bluetooth
On wifi disconnection wait 30 seconds and turn bluetooth on.
If not wifi connected & not bluetooth connected turn bluetooth off and on every 5 minutes.
If not wifi connected & not bluetooth connected and incoming call turn bluetooth off and on.
If not wifi connected & not bluetooth connected when display switched on turn bluetooth off and on.
The battery drain hasn't been a problem, if I go away or won't be using my car for a while I disable tasker. Of course this doesn't help when it keeps asking for the pin.

Ah, cunning! Of course...toggle it when it's not already connected. Prifile Settings doesn't seem to let me toggle things like BT directly, although I could probably do so by setting some appropriate profiles.
I'll have to experiment...or just buy Tasker, instead!

True, but so far in my case, I've only had that when I've tried to initiate connection from the car. Hopefully your trick will mean I don't need to do that so often.
Anyone found a gingerbread rom (or any rom!) with improved Bluetooth?
I have found the bluetooth to be terrible on the desire. I have got about 3 devices that my phone just refuses to pair with.
Currently I am trying to get it to connect with an Elm 327 Obd scanner. No luck, it asks for a pin, then I enter the pin, but it immediately rejects it.
I have tried oxygen rom, leedroid, stock froyo, everything...
I also have a parrot hands free kit that does the same thing, asks for pin, then does nothing...
Something makes me think it might be the radio or something. Except that my phone DOES connect with my scala motorbike helmet... So frustrating

Bluetooth cuts in and out when connected to 2 devices (car's "phone" and "media")
I have a GSM Galaxy Nexus on stock Jellybean, and bluetooth streaming works great in my car (Chevy Sonic) until I also connect the "phone" connection. When it's connected, the music cuts in and out constantly. Phone calls seem to do the same thing if "media" is connected.
If I kill 1 connection, the other works great. Is this a Galaxy Nexus problem or Jellybean? I've tried stock, franco's, trinity, etc kernels but I'm guessing this won't matter (since the source was JUST released for JB).
Does anyone else pair to multiple BT devices simultaneously? Do you have issues?
I just came from an iPhone 4S, and it paired nicely with both connections without them cutting out. I hope this is something I can get working because I use both functions all the time.

I connect to 2 devices in my truck and it actually seems to work better since installing Jelly Bean. On ICS I had a similar problem. My truck connects via the "phone" profile and I connect to a bluetooth adapter for the "media" profile. I could use either of them independently without a problem, but with both connected, my call quality was awful and my music would cut out periodically. I believe that the truck "phone" profile was disconnecting and reconnecting every couple minutes as I would see the display on my truck indicate that a bluetooth device had just connected.
Since installing JB, that behavior seems to have stopped. I can't say for sure as I haven't driven very much yet since installing it, but early testing seems to indicate the problem has gone away. I know this doesn't help in your situation, but I did want to share my experience as it was similar to yours.
I've tried to connect my phone via BT to two different cars and have no luck. It will scan for devices but won't find them at all. Does this happen to anyone else with the SIII? Strangely enough, it finds and connects to my JamBox is just fine.
What ROM are u on ? Stock or rooted?
What kind of cars I know my Audi A8 will connect but I always have to connect manually and enter the 1234 paswrd.

Still rocking the stock and unrooted for the phone. I tried on a Lexus GS and a Scion xB but no results show up. How do you connect manually? I should try that
Phone calls and bluetooth streaming works fine in my 2009 Mazda 6 (GT, no navigation). My phone is stock + root.
I use Slacker Radio everyday, launched by Automateit Pro when the connection to my car is established.
IIRC, I had to input a PIN on my phone, then in my car to do the pairing, and after that, I had to connect the phone manually to the stereo, but only once. After that, it's automatic when I start the car. Watch out for the "Only visible to paired devices" setting on your phone. It must not be checked.
I too have major issues with bluetooth, my phone connects whenever it feels like. I had to flash to cm9 to be able to listen to music in my G37. No problems in my other car (it has aftermaket pioneer system).
PS Just flashed the CM10 since they finally figured out A2DP, but the image is broken. (Note to myself: "Read the thread before flashing") Will wait for the next nightly build.
Nissan's always had a horrid BT stack in it. I'm in an 09 Altima and BT just sucks. I know it's not the phone as I've tried multiple phones from multiple vendors and they all suck. Nissan won't fix it either.
[Q] Bluetooth issue with Cars
I have AKOP Rom and KT Kernel. My bluetooth connectin to Mazda Cx-5 is fine. However, the problem I have is a lot of phone information (Song title, Battery Status) I used to have on stock, now are gone. Previously, I can fast foward or Rewind a song, also, once BT is connected, the default music player will start automatically
Can someone suggest a BT manager app which can change and enhance BT setting?
I have a 2009 Mercedes B200. My phone connects to the car just fine, but no sound comes from the speakers and no sound goes into the microphone. Same thing with my car and the HTC One X, although that was fixed with a stock ROM update. Bluetooth on cars can be very hit and miss.
There are various threads on this forum concerning bluetooth connectivity to the GN 10.1 2014. Most notably, keyboards that keep disconnecting.
I ran into this problem with my Logitech K810 keyboard, which works perfectly on my PC, as well as my Ipad 2 and my Galaxy S4. Three different units, three different operating systems, and with flawless performance.
Then I buy the pinnacle of Tablet technology; a spanking new Galaxy Note, and realize that the keyboard disconnects every three to five seconds.
This is something like buying a shining new bike, coming home full of expectations, and unpack it. Only to discover that the wheels are stuck. They won't turn. It would have been hilarious, if the tablet wasn't so bloody expensive.
I tried various "keep bluetooth alive" and "change to another screen keyboard" apps, to no avail. Then I read a thread from someone who could make the keyboard work if they played music to another unit via bluetooth: I tried this, and voila! As long as I keep my phone paired and connected to the note, the keyboard works perfectly.
This could give a hint as to the nature of the problem; could it be that the keyboard, unlike the Galaxy S4, doen't actively work to keep the bluetooth radio active when you are not typing, and that what ppl assume to be Samsung's new implementation of the bluetooth standard in the GN 10.1 2014 doesn't take such devices into account?
If that is the case, the problem should not be related to hardware issues with the bluetooth antenna, like someone suggested, but is more likely software-related, and hence, a bugfix shouldn't be impossible.
Could this be achieved with an app written by some skilled coder, or do we have to wait for a bugfix from Samsung? Any ideas guys?

It's a h/w problem. There are plenty of N10.1-14 owners that aren't having any BT issues including with the K810 which comes up frequently. I have a BT mouse and keyboard connected for hours at a time without any disconnects. I leave BT on continually on my N10.1-14 and as soon as the mouse or keyboard are turned on they connect immediately. There's a lot of discussion in the BT thread in the general section discussing possible causes on devices having problems. Exchange it or send it in for warranty repair.

Thanks for advice, but for an exchange of the device to be meaningful, we will need some confirmation that Samsung has identified the problem and corrected it?

If you bought from Samsung, I'm not surprised they told you they would not exchange it. Samsung told me they don't warrant that their product will work with a third-party product. They also said there were no Samsung keyboards at this time that were compatible with this tablet. Fortunately I got mine from a retailer that was willing to exchange. Unfortunately the second unit I got about two weeks ago also has the problem.
Your best bet might be to send it to Samsung rather than play "exchange roulette." Here's what to tell Samsung customer support...
"Hi Mary, I spoke to someone earlier about a BT problem I was having. The BT peripherals I connect work fine initially but can't maintain a connection; meaning they drop the connection and either I have to reconnect them manually or sometimes they'll reconnect themselves only to drop out again. The person I first spoke to was pretty sure it was the devices I was connecting and not my tablet.
Here's what I did. I completely reformatted my tablet to the way it came out of the box. I didn't even allow any of my apps to be loaded on it after I reset it. So it was a clean untouched stock as it left the factory Samsung configuration. The same problems of random disconnection occurred. I went to Best Buy and they were really nice. They allowed me to connect all the BT peripherals I was having problems with to their three floor models. They all worked fine and kept the BT connection active. So clearly, there's something wrong with my individual tablet.
I have a couple of friends with this tablet and while the majority of their devices work fine some are having the same issue I am. There's obviously something wrong with a subset of these tablets for individual examples to perform differently with the exact same BT peripherals."
If you still meet resistance...
"I'm sorry you won't help me get my problem solved. Do you think a supervisor might be able to help me or should I just contact the BBB and my local attorney general's office as you're refusing warranty work I'm entitled to in spite of the steps I've taken to isolate a problem and demonstrate to you that there's an issue with my specific tablet. Also, can you please give me your name again? I didn't write it down when you came on the call."

I have k810 keyboard too, and in the beginning the keyboard worked normally, but lately, I have more and more disconnections.
Before, it was enough for me to restart the tablet, and the keyboard walked fine.
But now, I have constantly disconnections, every 5 seconds.
It becomes unusable
I tried to flash roms of over counties, I tried CleanRom, but the problem stays.
I'm worried, because my Knox is on 1, and I just read that Samsung voids the warranty, regardless of the problem...
Do you found other solutions since?

So much for Samsungs costumer support. Now to my own investigation into this problem:

I have had the same problem with a bluetooth keyboard and mouse not working correctly, I found if I turn off the wifi radio on p600 I have up to 3 co current bluetooth connection going at he same time. when the wifi is on and active the bluetooth is dropping off think it has to do with wifi 4.0 radio in the tablet or the placements of the attennas in the tablet.
What I do is connect a bluetooth device to play music continuesly, so that the connection doesn't drop. Then the BT keyboard and BT mouse will stay connected. Keyboard and mouse disconnect when you stop typing. The music BT device keep the signal alive, and it never drops. You can try this if you want and check if it works for you.

I have not experienced this issue and I use a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse abort 20 hours per week.

Don't send your device in for repair- there's nothing wrong with it. I use a BT keyboard and a BT mouse all the time with this device and they work quite well- the issue is pretty obviously the Logitech K810, not the Note 10.1 .
