[Q] Jellybean Battery Life? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hey,
For all of you who flashed the Jellybean ROM on your CDMA/LTE Gnex, how is the battery life?
Also, I know the CDMA/LTE Gnex didn't get a new radio with JB, but which one do you recommend being on?
Thanks,
Ken

Its way too soon to ask about battery life.
My gues is, that it wouldn't make that big of a difference to the battery life we have now.
You need to wait for about 1 week, then people can tell if there really is a difference.

OP, I should be getting my nexus tomorrow or Saturday. I will update my post with battery stats after 2 days.

Why would you need to wait a week?

Probably gonna be about the same... same exact radios and everything right now. There's nothing drastically different about JB that would increase life.

Perhaps OP's question might be directed at those who've flashed JB and have already had it for a few hours.
Did any of you notice more or less battery drain based off your usage?

I'm using vanir jellybean v3 over clocked to 1430mhz...I had my phone on for an hour under heavy usage on lte and it went down 25%. Will post more later.

[Q] G2 ROM on Desire Z = Lower Battery Life?

Guys,
I've been jumping between ROMs since rooting my phone last week and one thing I've noticed is that my battery life takes a big hit when I'm using the G2 ROM.
You'd think that since it's a lot closer to stock Froyo than the Bell Desire Z ROM it would have better battery life, but that not what I'm seeing.
With both ROMs it seems that they will stay at 100% for a two or three hours and then start coming down - however it's much more dramatic with the G2 ROM and it seems as though it's battery drain gets accelerated.
Has anyone else noticed this?

For my part, while using CM 6.1RC1 the battery drain was amazingly bad.
Under Modaco G2 ROM, it's more reasonable. For casual use for 7h since being unplugged, I'm at 76%.

My phone's been unplugged for almost 7hrs and I'm at 85% battery on my original Bell ROM.
If you have Spare Parts installed, check Battery History. From there click on the "Running" bar. This will tell you how much time the phone has spent "awake" (this excludes the time the display has been on or while on a call).
I'm at 2hrs 18mins (+20mins with the display on).
Give my stock g2 rom a chance and tell me how that compares. I get better bat life out of stock kernel myself. Bet we could use some uv.
I've noticed something new.
I had my SIM card out of my phone today and it's been unplugged for 5hrs with not cellular network (but everything else going via WiFi) and it's still at 99% battery life.
Uptime is 5hrs 53mins with Awake Time at 1hr 36mins.
Is the cellular connection using more battery than it should be?
it looks like a combination of issues.
1. the android system uses a lot of battery
2.cell standby uses a lot of battery but less than android system
i have a unlocked bell desire z.
installed CyanogenMod RC2 but had to roll back to a sense based rom because the battery drain was just too much.
I figured it out, Kik Messenger was the main culprit.
It's been great since I uninstalled that.
To figure it out o had to restore to a clean rom and install one app at a time. At that point id leave my phone alone for a couple hours and check "wake" time under battery history in Spare Parts. If it was more than 10% we had our app.

seems to me the mocado in my g2 gets better life than the stock g2.
id give up a lot of features for good bat life.
are there any roms created for bat life?

Post some pictures of your battery stats so we can see whats going on.
People usually complain about battery life when the first get a phone because they are using it non-stop, downloading apps, etc. If you go from 100% to 0% in 1.5 hours there is cause for concern.
Ive had the phone for about a week

Looks like your screen was on the majority of the time. People have reported between 2.5-4 hours of screen time from 100-0% with the LTE version. So, to me, it seems normal, especially if you are gaming or browsing during that time.
Yea kinda figured.

Battery life blows on the Verizon version. I have tried all ROM's and kernels. I have LTE off, no syncing at all. GPS off, etc...
This is on par with the EVO 4G crappy battery life.
I get maybe 6 - 7 hours battery life on a weekday. And a full day + on weekends with light use and WiFi.
Weekdays I make 30-40 phone calls...send 100 texts...read and send couple dozen emails...surf the web...use navigation once per day...doing all that this phone dies fast.

Curious, was the battery life any better or worse when it was stock?
I forked out the money and bought the Seidio extended battery along with their protective case. It definitely makes life better. I live in a non-LTE area, so I tend to just keep it off unless I'm travelling somewhere.
But I have the AOKP ROM, the Franco nightly kernel, you can use various apps to have it turn off one of the cores when your phone's screen is off, and even underclock it. I don't use Juice Defender, but that will help when the screen is off. I wouldn't mind an app that knocked you down to 2g when the screen was off (less battery consumption I've heard).
I am about to install this radio: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1469687
Not sure if it'll handle my connections better or save any battery or not, but if you live in an LTE area, it's probably a must-have.

Yeah but we're talking about the GSM version on 3g which is wcdma air interface, which has the same performance as cdma since they both are near identical.
If we were talking about the phone on edge tdma then yes that battery life is much longer.
There's a post somewhere around about improving battery life (think it's linked inside either the Android HD ROM or Codename Android ROM thread)... but basically in that post - it talks about wiping your battery stats file at 100% so the phone has a proper idea of what 100% is.
When you flash, your phone assumes whatever current charge you're at is the 100% mark.
You should be at 4200mV(give or take) at 100% battery (at least this is true for GSM, I'm not familiar enough with the LTE version to know if the value is different). If it's lower, you're not actually fully charging your battery and that's why your battery life is terrible.
Might be worth a check at least to see what you're getting for 100%, and then trying to update the batterystats file by the method in that thread. I'll see if I can dig it up.

It really doesn't if LTE is off.
Worse sure, but not on the order of magnitude to consider it horrendous.
My wife is on stock IMM30B, not rooted gets an easy day out of the battery. A day and a half if she uses it less. I have LTE turned off at all times for her.
My battery sucks, but considering I am constantly rebooting, flashing, and overclocking, that is of no shock.

Battery drain on clean Rom installs.

The last few nights, I have tried a few different JB Roms. All with the same results. My GNex has a full charge before I go to bed, I wake to my phone telling me to charge it 8 hours later. With NO wifi or network data on. This can't be normal.
The roms:
ASCENT 3.0
Jelly Belly 4.0
New Unofficial Cyanogen Release.
No extra apps installed. Purely stock.
Tonight, I'll try it in airplane mode, and see if my network coverage is what's draining the battery. But for the most part I'm never without a signal.
Any ideas or ways I can see if the battery is just bad?
Also, what would the current Verizon radios be? I believe mine are up to date, but I guess that could be an issue if it is indeed my network signal being dropped.
Im on the 07/27 fitsugly cm10 rom with r225 franco kernel and for some reason my battery life has gone through the roof, after 30 hours of being on the battery is still at 56%. Granted im not using it much now but still i've never seen this type of battery life before. Overnight the battery dropped maybe 4% at best, wifi is always on and its fetching emails.

I installed the newest version of the ROM. I was curios what the different GPU kernels were for. Is there one that Toro should use rather than the other? I think I installed the 512 version. Should I not have?
Minooch + franco.Kernel #223 (see attached files). I haven't used my phone much in past 24 hours, but battery life is awesome. I use latest bootloader and radio firmware, CPU is set on interactive governor, 1420-384MHz, max screen off CPU frequancy - 729MHz, 512MHz on GPU.
I think I tried that ROM before, not sure if its just for maguro. I have a Verizon toro.

If you don't need the higher clocked gpu speeds then just stick with the 384mhz kernel.

Try better battery stats... I am on gsm nexus.
I tried jelly belly, minco , paranoid android, and xenonHD plus bigxies stock. I've used Francisco Francos kernel on bigxies and that gave good battery life but the others all burned cpu and battery, specifically via Android.mediascanningservice. and maps.
Right now I am back to stock 4.1.1 rooted courtesy of rom toolkit and with better battery stats and cpu spy I have a cool phone.
One thing you should be aware of is if you have a lot of media on your phone the scanning service can take a long time to run and calm down. I I upgraded my bosses razr to ICS and his phone took all night to update I guess he has lots of music on it...
To increase battery life you can install titanium backup and freeze maps, and wallet when I not in use. You can install rescan media from the app store and trunk off media scanning service. Or just buy a bigger battery.
This is not a knock on the custom roms. The rom teams mentioned above they are all awesome and are the reason us crackflashers have so much fun. I have learned lots from this experience and have a better grasp on how my phone works due to the efforts of these devs. For now I am sticking with stock... I'm sure I'll be flashing again soon.
You can never judge a ROM on battery life within a day. Every ROM I flash gets bad battery on the first cycle and most the time even the second cycle. You really have to stick with a ROM/kernel combination for at least a few days to be able to judge battery life. It may just be a placebo effect but I use a battery calibration app each time I flash

Terrible battery life
I'm not completely sure why but for me it has been terrible. Drains to less than 40% in 5-6 hours. I at first thought it was the overclocking I did, then I set the max CPU speed to 1024 MB and it's still terrible battery life. I have wi-fi and data off most of the time and the phone not being used and it still drains this bad. Can someone help me? I've tried a few different governors under the CM9 settings now, which is best? I notice that wi-fi and the screen are using the most power. Why does wi-fi remain on/drain power even when the screen is off? Sense managed to save my battery and make it last for like 2 days (as mentioned in the OP) by turning off wi-fi and data when the phone was asleep/locked. Also, I used auto-brightness on Sense and got the 2 day battery life. Auto-brightness on CM9 seems to be KILLING my battery.
Someone help me get max battery life out of CM9 for my HTC One V (CDMA) please!

Actually I had other reasons to wait including concerns about my first flash.
I did end up flashing last night, but not based on the in-depth experience your 1-line reply to this thread described. I actually had any questions I had answered on the IRC channel by a few devs which was highly appreciated.
I don't think there is anything wrong with people waiting for even more stable versions and commenting on that as such. Maybe instead of trying to provoke me through insults you could have tried to convince me. Otherwise your criticism is useless without any sort of construct so please keep it to yourself.

Exactly what app did I say was sucking my battery? Oh right, I didn't. I asked for help on how to get max battery life with CM9 (like how I should tune the settings) and of course I get someone who thinks they know everything coming in here just to talk **** on someone else. Why did you even bother to post dude? You just wanna call people out and put them down. Does that make you feel better? Insulting people via text on an internet forum? Real cool man... Who's the real mr. perfect here?
That being said...
The ONE AND ONLY issue I have with CM9 is that it seems to be draining battery way too quickly. The first 2 posts claim to get the same battery life as with stock rom (about 2 days). Can someone (someone who actually wants to help here, not someone who just wants to laugh at people who don't have EVERYTHING figured out and perfect like they do) please tell me how they have set up CM9 to get 2 days battery life. I really really like CM9 and the only thing keeping me from using it is this battery drain.

Well, I use JuiceDefender to switch off wifi and 3G when the screen is off. Also, I don't use autobrightness, opting instead to set screen brightness to 20-30% (which is still pretty bright IMO). Been getting 1 and a half days out of the battery with low-mid usage (texting/calling/checking Facebook & Twitter)
However, I've only been using CM9 for about 5 days, so you might want to take my advice with a pinch of salt. Hope this helps anyway.

[Q] Verizon Galaxy Nexus Battery Issues

So I recently installed Aliendroid, a rom that uses a modified cm10 kernel as well as running moddified aosp and cm10 hybrid. The battery life on my friends galaxy nexus, both of us have verizon, has been consistently 30% higher and I am curious as to why or how this can happen. Thanks ahead of time.

However, he could simply have a better battery than you. Download betterbatterystats and check out what's taking your battery life on stroll.
Thanks for the input. As far as we can tell it doesn't seem to much of a difference with programs running. Is it possible that his battery just discharges better than mine?
You cant compare the battery life between two phones with so many variables. The only possible way you could even try would be:
having the exact same ROM/kernel
exact same settings
same carrier
exact same location at all times
exact same apps installed with exact same settings
EXACT same usage <---impossible
