Hello guys,
1st of all, I've been looking through forums and "Similar threads we found" but didn't find the one thing I need : a perfect synthesis on ROMs, Kernels, basebands, etc...
I hope you guys can help me !
I'm a recently owner of the LT18i and tried to flash Kernel and ROMs on it, but failed mainly because I was too drunk to follow steps in the meant order.
Config :
LT18i Stock ROM GB 2.4.3
Baseband 64
Build 4.0.2.A.0.62
Here I am today with this choice :
- Try again to install Arconium 7.3 as I originally planned (the one designed for my build).
- Find others ROMs / Kernels to flash.
I'd like to update on an early version of Androïd (most likely ICS) but need a few answers to following questions before I feel confident :
- Is it possible and safe (regarding AND regardless my phone) to change my build from 4.0.2.A.0.62 to 4.1.B.0.431 or anything accepting ICS on Arc S ?
- Does baseband change anything in the process, if yes, how ?
- Is it sufficient just to flash the last kernel and last ROM on my phone to have ICS on my stock GB phone ?
Please note I'm not actually a beginner as I already touched to ROMs, CWM, ..., but I'm like totally lost when I see information widespread on hundreds of different threads of thousands of pages each !
In a nutshell, I just need a few steps synthesis of how I could switch from my current config to an ICS 4.x Arconium Arc S (if it is possible).
Thanks in advance,
Minikrob
Its not hard at all to cwitch from GB to ICS...
stuffs required:
- ICS kernel( Xarc or ArcKnight recommended)
- Custom ROM( Arconium ICS 4.0 recommended as it is based on stock ICS )
- Baseband 72
yes it is 100% safe to taste ICS
Baseband as the name suggest is required for mobile network..latest one normal has btr network coverage with btr battery life
You need to flash a ICS kernel and an ICS ROM as i have mentioned above
steps:
Copy ROM to sd card
Flash a Kernel with flashtools
Flash baseband in fastboot
enter recovery and clean everything(data,cache)
Flash ROM
Reboot
I hope you know how to enter recovery and all

I know how to !
This is great, exactly what I was looking for. I might sound like dumb, but the single thing I didn't even know about is we could flash Basebands.
I've now all necessary tools to taste ICS, as you said !
Thanks a lot !

I believe it is the other way around, flash baseband in flashtools and kernel in fastboot. I would say your better off either getting the ftf of ics 4.0.4 or flashing via pcc if its available for you. It might be worth seeing if you like the UI before you start getting into custom roms etc.

I'm pretty sure I've to flash my kernel via Flashtool, I did it before, can't say for the baseband, but I'll find a way.
And I already globally looked at ICS, this seems pretty cool to me, it will do it !

Either in command prompt fastboot flash boot boot.img, or whatever the name of the .img, or with Flashtool -> fastboot mode -> Select kernel to flash. And BBs are flashed via Flashtool as well, just flash mode, not fastboot mode.

Hello Guys !
I wanna try some custom ROM so before doing that want to backup my Kernel & ROM. If anything gone wrong so I can revert back to original ROM.
My Cell details:
Xperia Arc S
LT18i
Android Version 2.3.4
Baseband Version -64
Build number
4.0.2.a.0.62
Locked bootloader
& unrooted.
Please someone guide me....
Thanks in advance...
If your bootloader's locked then you can't back up. You can only reload(repair)it from PC companion.
sinkster©
Thanks sinkster !
Ok done unlocked bootloader.
Then advice the further steps...
XPERIA CWM AUTO INSTALLER
download this app and install CWM recovery on ur phone...
Then reboot ur phone into recovery mode...
TO DO THIS, LONG PRESS BACK BUTTON WHILE THE PHONE RE-BOOTS
(OR)
KEEP TAPPING VOLUME DOWN BUTTON...
After it boots into recovery, go to BACKUP & RESTORE and Select Backup...
This will create a NANDROID BACKUP on your phone exactly as it is...including apps n contacts n all other data..
you can find it in SDCARD/Clockworkmod/Backup/
Good day...
If you wanted to take a backup without installing CWM you can use fastboot to boot (not flash) a kernel that has CWM built in.
thanks amulbaby
I will try and get back here with comment ...
EDIT:
I tried that steps but it will works only on rooted phone ..., can not enter in to recovery mode by pressing any key, it normally boots up and appear home ...

Why don't you root it with flashtool then?
But for that u wud have to downgrade to .42, with flashtool before rooting
Hey I am also wondering about this. I have lt15i flashed with Official .562, locked bootloader and CWM installed via flashtool.
Which ICS roms will work with official .562 and locked bootloader? I have been searching all morning but not a lot of updates regarding this since the official .562 release.

Here is the point I was looking for these alternative . . .
I have STOCK ROM with 4.0.2.a.0.62, actually I want to backup these stuff, I read about that downgrading via flashtool and root, if I flashed via flashtool that STOCK ROM will wipe...
Anyway here what I did to make a copy of my stock firmware & upgraded to ICS firmware & rooted.
Repaired my phone using Sony update service to download and backup STOCK firmware
Flashed with flashtool official firmware LT18i 4.1.A.0.562 NCB Icecream Sandwich Official
First you need to download a kernel that has cwm built in, I would search for recoveryARC.IMG then you also need fastboot from the SDK.
All you would do is connect your phone I'm fastboot then run in a command prompt fastboot boot recoveryARC.IMG. Your phone would then boot using that kernel and you can enter cwm by pressing the vol down several times. This process wouldn't flash your kernel only load it temporarily.
I would try and find a guide about them but I'm on my phone.
Sorry just noticed you've already done it, congrats enjoy ics.

Thanks bro ...
I already upgraded, anyway I want to know the process, you mentioned here this process wouldn't flash kernel only load it temporarily, I am confused...
Could you describe in details .. ? Actual what happens if we flash recovery img...
Well you can use fastboot to install the kernel which overwrites the previous one, or you can use it boot the kernel which just sends the kernel to the phone which the boots and temporarily uses the kernel. However when the phone next shuts down it will return to normal use.
If you flash a kernel it writes the .IMG to the boot partition. So if I wanted to use a kernel that stayed between reboots I would use 'fastboot flash boot kernelname.IMG'
However if I was running stock I could use recoveryARC.IMG with cwm, and do fastboot boot recoveryARC.IMG then run update.zip as normal. Then all you have to do is reboot, you'll be back to stock but the update would still be installed.
Sorry if it's not cleat, the best I could do on my phone.

Can you please give me details on you did this? It is precisely what I want to do (ie. Backup the stock carrier rom on my Xperia Arc before flashinging an old ROM in order to root it).
Did you use the "repair" option from "Sony PC Companion 2.1>Support Zone>Phone software update>repair phone"?
Or did you use the software from here: http: // w ww(dot)sonymobile(dot)com/gb/tools/update-service/
Can you please tell me the whole procedure on how you did the backup of the STOCK ROM? Thanks!

ROM backup OK; How to take backup of Kernel
I am using Sony Xperia Ray ST18i
used it for a year with stock kernel and ROM
rooted it long ago, but was afraid of custom ROMs
last month I unlocked bootloader, flashed ROM and custom ROM (beanstalk 4.3.075), enjoying it but obviously not so stable like stock
Now if I wish to move back to my stock kernel and ROM
what steps are required.
I suppose
1. flash the stock kernel
2. restore from backed up ROM (I do have nandroid backup of stock ROM)
but how to achieve the step 1, as I learnt nandroid backup doesn't backs up ROM.
My collegue is having same phone still on stock, Can I use his phone somehow to extract kernel. I searched and found a zip to be used through CWM which backs up kernel it was meant for some samsung phone I tried but failed.
Thanks in advance.
Do I need to supply some more information to get help?
Backup stock ROM
I used this backup guide, but dont know if it will work for you http://helpadude.com/how-to-backup-your-android-rom/
If it does plz give thanks
Hello everyone last week i got pissed at my arc s because of its stockness.Stock, kernel, rom, widges, slow ui,locked bootloader, not rooted etc etc etc.The i decied to unlock my bootloader, after few hours of research i found out that the only way to unlock it is the paid method i got pissed. Then i decied to install a custom rom and heres what i did"
Since i coudnt instal nor get into cwm i found this https://play.google.com/store/apps/...251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5wdnkuQ1dNaW5zdGFsZXIiXQ..
i installed the program, rooted my phone with DoomLoards method(the one for ICS phones) and then downloaded to rom
What i did next is to download few rom and tested and here are the roms:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1526717 , I did all of the steps with wiping data/cache atc when i installed all the roms, but just choosed the other archive file for the rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1565475 < which im using now
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1515148
Remmember that i cant get into cwm if i turn of the phone for some reason,so i run the xperia cwm program and got into it.After that just follow the steps given in the rom's topic "How to install" and thats it.
After 2 reboots my phone was running all of the listed rom which needed unlocked bootloader in order to be installed
I would love some1 else to test my method
To flash new kernal u need bootloder unlock so u cant change kernal in locked bootloader
Roms like
Cm7&9
N miui wont work
Ics base Rom may work
Well yes
im running them with stock kernel.Right now im using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1565475 MuIU and it runs perfectly much better then the stock ICS i had before every with 80 100 free ram

Hi I would like to try what you have mentioned. However, I am currently still on the GB ROM. I have rooted my phone. I presume I need to flash to ICS first before trying your method.
Is there anyway I can flash a stock ICS ROM with a locked bootloader using flashtools? Stock ICS is not released for my region yet so I can't do it by the usual PC Companion way I think.
I dont think that u need to install stock ICS before using this "method".Try installing this https://play.google.com/store/apps/...251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5wdnkuQ1dNaW5zdGFsZXIiXQ and then do the steps said in the rom u want to install.I would suggest u to read very carefuly the tutorial provided by the rom's developer so u wont srew your phone like i did the 1st time aka dele cavik cache/farcroty reset etc etc.U can use the instructions from this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1526717 .U can put any rom u want on the sd card but the steps before that got to be the same
So basically what you did was install a Stock Based ROM without install the kernel that ROM need right? And is working?
I have ROOT and ICS Stock, i already search and i was thinking to install a Stock Based ROM without ROM custom kernel but i was afraid
So seams you try it and work right?
Yes ive tried those 3 roms and they work with the stock kernel that my arc s comes with, they detect the phone as lt18i etc etc.Mind that if your bootloader is locked you probably wont be able to get into recovery vie the normal way aka press to volume keys up and down, thats why u need to install the xperia cwm program and reboot into recovery with it.If you do something wrong and your phone freezes at the xperia logo we can fix that(flashing the stick ICS with flashtool using flashmode (holding the back key)

@gogobaba can you please try your method with JJ Hybrid ROM
2) KERNELS
a) Sirkay's ICS Kernel HERE (For Overclocking )
b) Arc Knight Kernel by jimbo77 HERE (for Overclocking)
OR
b) Stock ICS Beta Kernel with CWM HERE (thanks cobrato)
OR
c) DoomLord ICS kernel with Wifi Modules .
Sorry guys but i cant try it i dont have the time to reinstall my phone again and i dont have wifi or mobile internet for my programs to be downloaded again.
I have my doubts that this rom will work because of the kernels.Check b) its says stock ICS beta kernel i dont know if this is the stock kernel of the arc or its some other kernel.Ask in the rom's topic if u can install this rom with the stock kernel. If u can they you should be albe to install it.
Mind that i cant be held responsive if something goes wrong with your phone.I can verefy only the roms from the 1st post

notes
you cant flash a ICS kernel for a JB ROM , or the other way around
you can how ever flash any JB kernel on any JB rom , so long as they are from the same source e.g. sony rom + sony kernel
sony kernel + cm rom = no
ENSURE THAT YOUR BOOTLOADER IS UNLOCKED
I thought that CWM-Based Recovery 6.0.3.2 for Xperia S {Official JB firmware} is a jb kernel.

Ah.
Just reading a lot´s of webpages in the meantime and found another way to get the cwm.
i have downloaded the ROM MANGER Free version in the market. This programm should create cwm recovery i need. - just waiting for a charged battery. tell you soon if it works.
Careful. Those apps are not 100% safe to trust.
You should flash the kernel or recovery using fastboot instead. Its the best way to go about it. Make sure you can connect to your device using fastboot. Would save you a lot of troubles and time in the future.

Where do i get recovery image for my ARC S?
i understand that using fastboot to flash it onto phone is rather easy.
As i understand after i get new recovery i can flash kernel and new rom from recovery mode?
How do i revert to android 2.3.4 4.0.2.A.0.62 if i dont like new rom / kernel?
GREAT BIG THANKS!

First of all you have to unlock the bootloader and you have to be on ICS
Then you can flash the kernel[with flashtool].
after flashing the kernel u can enter the recovery by presing the volume down buton until it brings you to cwm.
and the follow the instruction for instaling the rom
Good luck

If my bootloader is "unlock available: yes" is that ok?
Will the fusion kernel 5.4 work with default rom's ? like GB 2.3?
how do i revert to stock kernel after flashing fusion? Emma?
Is recovery stored on a seperate partition that is not the rom / system partition? so i will always have recovery available?
Thank you!

Yes it is, but you must unlock it.[search in the forum]
fusion is for jelly bean roms, not for GB so far i know,.
if you want to revert to from ICS to GB you just have to flash the ftf.file from gb .62
if you have any problem tell me i will try to help you.
press thanks if i helped you!

Bootloader can be unlocked
No. Fusion works with only custom JB ROM. For stock ROM use stock kernel.
You can use EMMA or Flashtool to flash an FTF file. Note that this will wipe your personal data.
No. The recovery that you're using now can either be stored on /system partition or merged with kernel. The one stored in /system requires root before you can install it.

I first unlocked bootloader, after which the phone would no longer go past SE logo ( i had installed CWM for default rom and bootlocker blew up the kernel probobly)
after which i flashed Fusion 5.4 with fastboot
and then i applied SJB from SD card.
I did not think it would be that easy. it was.

Dear forumers.
I usually do not ask stupid questions as that, but there I am very very confused
I just want to install some new OS to my XPERIA S (LT26i). Now I have all stock cellphone conditions with original 4.0.4 Android version.
My wish is to have phone fastest as it can be and all stable. I have read many many topics and guides there but I am still confused where to start. I need all flashtool, bootloader unlock, root, recovery, flash kernel, flash rom and do not know what to do first, second, third,... And I do not want to break up phone.
Can someone please kindly understand me and copy links of actual guides in right order? I need suggestions for 4.4 version OS-s too.
Best regards

Probably you don't know that it is not so easy to first doing that, but for noobs that forum is so hard to understand especially because of risk to damage your phone is something goes wrong.

Now you need to download a rom from the development section, then open the zip on your pc, extract the boot.img. Then copy the rom zip file on to your phone and flash the boot.img using fastboot or Flashtool. Then turn on your phone, and keep on pressing the volume up button to enter recovery. Then wipe everything except system and sdcard and then flash the rom.zip. Reboot your phone and it should be running kitkat

I have rooten now too. So there is just installing ROMs, did not need any recovery on phone or kernels or something like that?
Which ROM will you suggest as a smooth and stable of 4.4? Need to work camera, call, sms and alarm.

i tried many aosp was best but lack of customization killed me,but smoothness was real awesome the guy helped u is the developer of carbon rom but i didnt try it so no comments.for daily driver and gaming i wont recommend rayman's rom or pureslim.no offence, they are stable but comparitively few games were slow and dint start on both like subway surfers and fifa 14 :silly:
I have installed this on my xperia but it's not that it has to be. It's version 4.6 not 4.8 and it's not 4.4 kitkat bur 4.1.2 JB. OTA updater says: Error fetching update info: Invalid ROM (LeOpArDx) & device (lt26ii) combo!
And device is LT26i not ii. At 60 page of discussion the others have the same problem with version and updating.
