[Q] Drop box - HTC One X

So I was looking at my dropbox today, I currently have a massive 2 photos on it.
I just cant seem to think of useful things to use it for, no point putting music on it as I cant listen to it from dropbox, I dont bother putting my photos/camera shots on it cause well my phone has more then enough storage to hold what I have maybe in the future I will use it to back up old photos if I ever run out of space.....
I just cant seem to think what I could use it for ...... any suggestions or maybe im missing something about it ?

Didn't use drop box before the hox though I had it long before the phone. Now I'm using it daily. Always good to save some important stuff there when I'm on my way. What if my phone gets broken and I lose all data? Lucky me I have them on drop box. Use it as your sd backup, pictures, music, data, anything. I don't use my pc anymore cause of that

Don't use dropbox myself but I do use google drive. It (cloud storage) is really good for sharing files from your desktop/laptop to your phone. Like PDFs.
Of course, it depends on your internet connection.

I thought dropbox was useless till like a tool I formatted sd without backing up lol saved all my photos also syncs to my pc saves me using the USB.

Yeah just imagine what you'd be annoyed about losing if your phone is lost or stolen. Plus is very very handy for sending large files to people that are too large to attach to email.
Upload to dropbox and simple email the download link.

Yea been playing around with it going to store all my phone backups on it

Galaxy Nexus Deleted All Of My Music

So I just downloaded an album and I was trying to copy it onto my Galaxy Nexus using the Android File Transfer. I kept getting a bunch of errors, like usual, saying I have to reconnect my phone, the phone can't be found, and so on. So I attempt the copy, which failed several times. I reconnect my phone for a 3rd or 4th time, and my entire music folder is gone. Mind you, I did not delete it. So now all my music is gone, I can't simply recopy the music onto the phone because I'm out of the country for the next month and I don't have my computer, nor is Google Music working because it's not available outside the US.
possibly corrupted where that folder was because of the connect/disconnecting. probably going to have a make a new one and download music back to it when you get a chance.
If you have access to a computer then it's pretty straightforward to fool Google Music into thinking you are in the US and set it up.

I've been trying to use proxies since I got here. They either don't work or are wayyy too slow. The connection here isn't the best to begin with. I'm currently in Switzerland.

Dropbox space

I'm not sure what the appeal of having 25gigs (or whatever it is) of dropbox space with the One phones - if I stick 25gigs of music/movies or anything else in the dropbox cloud, it's not exactly instantly accessible data. It would take about 9 years to download that over 3g, so I can't see how it's a practical storage solution for a phone. Am I missing something? Maybe other countries have super-fast 3g alternatives... like 4g!
Also, there's been lots written about the HTC one phones, but I couldn't find anything about call quality - isn't that mad?! Nowadays the ability of a phone to function as a phone is worthy of maybe three lines in a 4-page review...
I didn't like the idea at first but I've started to use dropbox and Google music myself so now my phone is free for applications and such. Music plays instantly on google play and I can expand my collection beyond to what I can store on my phone and while images take a little longer than I'd like to open on dropbox, it's still good when the one x does run low on internal storage space.
We have a good network here in denmark and it's pretty speedy. I wish the Xl was quad though so I could make use of the 4g network here but I want quad tegra so it has to be the one x
I belive its not the information on the cloud, its like the Dropbox beta.
Im background, its runs a backup service that mirror your information to the web.
The problem is, what happend afther 2 years of "free contract".

To be fair there has been very little written about the One X that isn't just based on quick hands on sessions at MWC. I've yet to see a review where the reviewer has actually had a phone for an extended period of time. Also as far as I know the phones at MWC did not have sim cards in them so no one yet has had chance to test that.
I agree its an important feature of a phone however with modern phones I think we just take it for granted that it will have good call quality. I'm sure by the end of next week there will be many people in this forum who can give you some more feedback. Also I dare say for many people phone quality is low down on their list...
Also don't forget the phone has 26gb of usable on device storage and if you really must carry around your complete movie and music collection to have at hand then it has USB host mode so you can plug a usb storage device into it.
Personally I intended to store music in google music, allowing me to stream my whole music collection if I want to, also allowing me to mark certain albums (the ones I want to listen to most) available offline so I don't need to stream over 3g when I'm off wifi and so I have access to them for those times when you have no internet connection. I will manage what I have offline and online during WIFI time.
Dropbox will store photo's, video (ones recorded on the device), documents and possibly device backups.
Local storage will be used to store videos which are transferred from my PC library when and if I need them (pre-planning needed). I have no need to store my entire movie collection on my phone...

I agree - to be honest, I'm not too bothered about space. 32gb (or however much is usable) is fine for me. I'll just load up whatever films/music I want on the phone before any long journey. I'm unlikely to need hundreds of films or albums on the phone at any one time.
Last time I tried streaming music on my phone - though spotify - it was painfully slow, so maybe I'll try again & see if it's actually usable.
I wouldn't upload the data on Dropbox which you really need all day, just the things for home and sharing some files or just for uploading the pictures to clean up your mass storage.
With Google Music and or a subscription service like Spotify music is covered. The streaming is actually good on Google Music as long as you don't need Flac! Why would you it's a mobile device!
The cloud backup is more than adequate, got a Box 50GB account and Dropbox 25GB account plenty of space. Most my HD videos get taken off the phone and backed up onto my server and or uploaded to YouTube so that's taken care of. I don't watch movies on the go, and have Flickr Pro account where all my photos get uploaded to.
So I think 32GB should be ample enough for my needs.
i have found a couple of dropbox music players wich works pretty good but the ui isnt that good but manageable , i have a google music account,a spotify subsrcription, a box 50gb account and 37gb dropbox account (87 in total 50gb wich i will cancel) and that plus the 25gb we get from htc is more than enough space so the HOX's internal storage won't be an issue for me

It sounds silly, but I use my phone so little for calling that it really is the least of my worries. I don't really 'do' long phone calls with friends and I have a business phone for, uh, business purposes!
Also, many of my calls are over Bluetooth hands free, using my car stereo (I spend a lot of time on the road) and the quality over that isn't brilliant regardless of the phone.
Not knocking those who do care a lot, just giving another PoV!
The 2 year deal bothers me. But i have 8gb already plus box.net 50gb, and 4shared 25gb (you get 25 when you register and its for life). I use an app called audiogalaxy that makes me able to stream my whole mp3 collection from my computer and it even works on 2g, without any audio compression. And you can stream sd video on 3g via ftp + mx video. Ive been fine with a 2gb microsd for a year so i dont think storage will be a problem.

Some good news from http://blog.dropbox.com:
If you’ve got a free account, you can invite up to 32 people for a whopping total of 16 GB of extra space.
Pro accounts now earn 1 GB per referral, for a total of 32 GB of extra space.
Have you already invited a bunch of people?
Don’t worry. Within a few days, you’ll get full credit for every referral that’s already been completed. Boom!
Here's my referral link. 500mb free for both of us if you sign up this way

Used to think cloud would be bad but then 2 hard drives and a USB failed in a week so much data lost I love the fact if my phone brakes all my photos are safe and well.

SD card wiped. Sherlock Holmes time

Hi checked my phone a minute ago to see that my SD card has been wiped
Anyone ever had that? I didn't do it..can this just happen?
Its either somethings gone wrong or one of my kids has messed around with it..they deny all knowledge though lol
I know on a PC you can try and recover can it be done on an internal SD?

Use software like Recuva (http://www.filehippo.com/download_recuva/) but beware that file names most of the time do not stay as they are, but at least you will get some form of data back. Most important thing now is to NOT write any data on your SD partition as overwriting with new data means deleted data is unrecoverable.
Thanks for replying. Ill look into it. I've not put anything else on there yet thankfully. Think ill leave Google + upload on from now on. Its only pics and videos etc im going to miss

[[[[Q]]]] What you peeps using to pass Files ???

Sup peeps..
was wondering what people were using to pass files from computer to phone or vice versa... i know in windows its simple, but on mac, the phone doesn't seem to show..
I have problems with my Samsung phones with OS X, that is if they are rooted and Kies is installed. I have a 17" MBP and use an express slot 3/4 card reader to pop my microsd into a sd card and go from there.
I have found that an app called Airdroid (free) allows you to open a web browser and connect to your phone and have full access of it.
yeah, thing is, i wanted to use KIES but to be blunt, it is S**T, i've used kies wi-fi and its still slow as hell so im looking for an alternative
i was having issues with the SD card, which ever i used (tried about 4)
I searched online and nothing seemed to work, until i saw one which told me to insert the SD as quick as i could, becuase if stick in the SD slowly it won't read it, ODD as hell.... funnily enough it worked !!

Install Kies. After installing Kies, open, go to tools on the menu and select install drivers. Install drivers. You can then use Android File Transfer available form the market (download and install on your Mac.) When you connect your phone it will automatically open.
Cheers lads !!

was using this one but noticed you can't put the files directly in to the Ext SD... so do i have to drop it in a random file then move it from there onto the ext every time !?
Thumbs up for Airdroid here. I use it almost every time. 98% of the time at least. It's a fantastic, fast tool. If you're going to be copying gigs and gigs, then maybe over USB, but to copy over a movie or music or pictures, I use Airdroid.

Please help

My wife had dropped her S3 on floor shattering screen. Now luckely insurance have sent a new device, but I need to get pictures that were one the device copied over (Failed SD card and phone writes pictures on internal memory). But when I connect phone to computer (Vista 7), it doesn't show up in Computer to be able see or access the contents of the phone. Phone does turn on and connects to WiFi as I hear same notification for Facebook and such at same time as her new and working device.
Is there any other ways to access it?
Any help would be greatly appriciated
Use a SD card to copy the photos from internal memory to SD card. If you had an SD card in the device that won't read then try a new SD card.
You can try new usb cable.
Make sure that you have the right Samsung drivers installed and working correctly (you can use the new S3 to test this). Download from Samsung website and install or reinstall if need to.
There are apps that allow your device's files to be accessed through WiFi. Like WiFi File Explorer Pro, WiFi File Transfer Pro, etc.
You can copy photos to cloud storage like Box, Dropbox, Sky drive, Amazon Cloud Drive, etc.
You can copy them to cloud photo gallerys like Google+ photos, Flickr, etc.
Bump, and S Beam can be used to transfer the photos.
If that doesn't do it, then out of luck.
Next time set the photos to be saved to external SD card. The settings should be in the camera settings (Note 2, S3, and S4)
FYI - this is Galaxy Note 2 forum. But that fine you post this here. Both Note 2 and S3 should be close enough to help with this.

Do you have a custom recovery? If you have CWM I'd just use adb to pull the files.

Thanks, guys.
Unfortunately the screen is completely black and shattered and I cannot see anything
If new cable doesn't work in allowing you to see the files in your device from computer, then you are out of luck. Sorry.
Next time set the photos to be saved to external SD card. The settings should be in the camera settings.
Again sorry for the loss of the photos.

I know this doesn't help you with your problem but, you can set up dropbox to automatically upload pics as you take them. That's what I do and I don't have to worry about losing pics. They are generally on my pc before I get home from wherever I took them. Again, sorry I can't help you but, hopefully this helps prevent problems in the future

Find a video tutorial on youtube for disassembly. Switch the internals from broken phone to new phone. Get needed files off phone. Swutch back internals when done. Be careful

Awesome idea. Google+ photos does the same.
To the Op - The ideas we are giving you is to have the photos automatically go somewhere that you can retrieve them without needing the device. SD cards, cloud storage and cloud photo gallerys are awesome ways to make sure that this doesn't happen again.
Again sorry for the loss of the photos and memories.

As a technician, I am afraid that the user could cause damage to the new device in doing this.
But yes, if hired to retrieve the photos and this was the only way then I would do this method. And still give them time to return the damaged device to the insurance.
Good idea.
You could possibly buy an mhl adapter and connect it to your tv/monitor and then copy the files to a new sd card or upload them to the cloud.

This seems like a good idea- unless you have to turn on the option to send signals to tv like laptops and such.
You should try what someone else mentioned- pushing with ADB if you have custom recovery. Go on youtube and find your custom recover and 'blind' navigate yourself through your recovery. (See where approx which option is where and press it and attempt to use ADB or something/)
