SD slot out of order? - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
2 days ago my phone suddenly refused to recognize my sd-card. The card is ok, i checked it.
From this point on, I was not and am not able to use usb mass drive, even while being in recovery.
As the phone is rooted, s-off and all that stuff, i can get a replacement on the warranty way..or is it possible to unroot etc. without sd-card access??
Maybe you have some ideas, how i could fix this problem myself?
TY!

the slot is usualy about $15 and easy to replace, search ebay and amazon
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium

Okay, I ordered one of these on Ebay.
Is it possible to replace the slot without breaking the case? I mean, will the cover still fit together after opening it one time? Just made sum bad experiences with my net book...

opened my phone many times, you could never tell

Hey,
so today i got the replacement sd-card slot.
Opened the handy, replaced the slot, everything was smooth and you couldn't tell i opened the desire, as u said.
But:
There is still no reaction to any form of sd card...
I know there is small hope for this, but could it be a software / driver error?
I remembered one thing:
I used and use at the moment "Virtuous Sense", based on Android 2.3.3.
Right before the problems started to begin, I used "Quadrasense 1.0" for a week or so.
When i became way slower, I wiped and restored my Virtuous Sense backup...
Maybe..?!

It's a bug in Sense 2.1 ROMs, u have to change the ROM if u want working SD card
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app

How can I, without sd card?
EDIT:
Anyways, found the way to do it in the xda-Wiki.
Gonna try out now.

Does, sadly, not seem to work out. Went to ICS, still no sd-card..

wipe and flash with fastboot
if that won't work it could be the connection at the motherboard
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium

So its probably the motherboard connector... hard stuff.
Will flash my old rom now and try to stick with the internal storage -.-

Solved - Help - Dropped desire in a puddle, now not recognising any micro SD cards

Hi,
Being the idiot I am I was running yesterday without making sure my belt case was securely closed and managed to drop my desire in a puddle. After drying it off and reassembling it I'm having 2 issues:
1. Thr phone isnt recognising either of the 2 micro sd cards I've tried so far. It doesn't even show them as unformatted or similar, just no card inserted.
2. The phone seems to have lost its battery backup, on boot up the time and date are wrong, defaulting to jan 7th 1980.
I'll try sticking it in the airing cupboard once I'm home to make sure it is properly dried out, any other suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
Bill
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
Edit: recovery mode does see the sd card so I don't think this is a hardware issue?
Tried flashing an ruu?
Sent from my HTC Desire
Not yet, will try that once I get home if a format of the card doesn't help.
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
The date thing happens when you have an instant loss of power - ie battery falls out. Happened to me a few times, unfortunately the fix is to delete the Android created directories from the SD Card - so it should fix itself if you get the SD Card sorted.
Stick it in a air tight container with loads of rice. Then leave it for bout a week to let it dry off
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Thanks everybody, out turned out that the SD had died, once I followed the suggestion to RUU I got the phone back into a state that it would read other cards.
I've now ordered a replacement 32gb so should be fully back up and running soon.

SD card problems

I keep getting a warning on the top of me screen saying "SD card removed. Please insert new one"
This happen after trying to delete my MIUI content from my SD card through Astro. When I clicked delete it took some time the said "error while deleting " then I got this message.
I pulled the battery, and put it back in. SD card was read fine. As I was navigating through Astro again I got the SD card message again. I tried pulling the battery but nothing.
I've looked around on several site trying to find what's wrong with no luck.
I was trying to free up some new space to swap Rome again. I was on MIUI, then came to HTCclay.
My SD card is a 4gb sandisk(I think) cheap o from Walmart.
Any help would be nice. I don't have a computer with me right now, but my SD card is able to be read in recovery (although when I click on things it says "file not found" but labels are there) and it can be read on a friends phone.
I have since wipes my SD card in hopes of it working, but all that did is make me lose all my pics and music.
Any help and a fast response would be appreciated.

I just pulled the SD card and reboot the phone with out it. Then put it back in and now I get this "SD card damaged. You may have to reformat it."
But it works fine on friends phone.
Wth is going on?

I had this on a cheap 8 gig card that had been modded to look like a 32GB card from Amazon marketplace... got a refund but it was the card at fault. Got another one kicking around to try?
I will in a few hours. My shift is over at 8pm central. That's 2hours away. Ill give feed back when I try.

No another SD card will not work. They all give me the same message.
Its so odd that I can see all the content in recovery, but it says file not found when I try to open anything. But I can not see any content when I turn my phone on.
Sent from my Htcclay's SuperCM7 G2 using XDA App
If your phone wont read any sdcards then its your phone. Anychance you got some dirt in there? You could try blowing it out real good or taking your old card cleaning it off real good then slide it in and out a few times. Also i would try doing a factory reset, if that dont work try wiping and flashing new rom. If none of those work then you got a broke phone. There was a website floating around that had all the parts for the vision. However i think that part is attatched to the mainboard..... So you might be better off getting a new phone. Thats worst case though hopefully one of the first things will fix it. Good luck!

Well that's what I thought, but my phone can read the content in recovery so its got to be the program right?
Well this is where it gets very odd.
I had an old 542mb memory card from an old phone in a small case with some old pics on it and was swapping out my wife's 1gb card to view the pics. But the case broke and I had know safe way of keeping the 1gb card from my wife's phone so I popped it into my phone for the time being.
I played on her phone looking at old pics and what not. Then just so happen to look down at my phone and did not see the "you have a bad SD card" thing. I went to gallery and all her pics where there.
I went and grabbed my 4gb card (the original card that stopped working on me) and put it in my phone ......and nothing.
Had a small hope...lol.
Well my wife wanted to use my 4gb SD card, so we put it into her phone (some super cheap Samsung not even a smart phone). I jokingly said "watch it work in my phone now....lol"
Put it back in my phone and............bam working again.
I'm not sure what happen. If anyone can explain that would be nice. My SD card was put into several smart phones witch they all where able to read and use the card. After it was always put back into my phone with no luck. Now we put it into my wife's phone and it works again.....hmmmm. wish I would have not deleted all my songs, pics, backups, and documents......but oh well got my card back.
Sorry for such a long thread , just trying to put every little thing down.
Sent from my Htcclay's SuperCM7 G2 using XDA App
because it is happening randomly and the only constant is that the card in question at any given moment works in other devices i would blame your phone. If it works in recovery try a factory reset or flash an older backup to see if that fixes it. Also take a toothbrush with pure alcohol and give the contacts a cleaning. a rubber eraser works too just blow out the dust afterwords.
p.s. Sandisk is not a cheap brand of sd's theya re generally regarded one of the better and more reliable brands if not the best.
Ill clean it even though its working.
If it happens again ill try to swap out the rom, but I did do a factory reset. Was one of the first things I did.
Sent from my Htcclay's SuperCM7 G2 using XDA App
Its possible that putting the card in your wifes phone cleaned the contacts some. Its also possible that while you phone was able to read the directory of the disk without being able to read the files themselves. I know they are stored seperatly but i dont know if jits a specific contact on the card itself. That might explain why you could see the files in recovery. Im just taking guesses here but hey it makes sense in my mind.

HTC Wildfire S Problem with digitizer replacement..

Hi guys I'm new at this, but here is the thing if anybody could help I'd really appreciate it, she let the phone fall on the floor and the digitizer screen broke, so she bought a new replacement and gave it to me to fix it, I mount everything and when I turn on the phone everything works except the digitizer, it does not work at all, I checked every connection and everything is fine.. Digitiser might be faulty. Dirt in connection? Use air blaster spray thing to clean. Moisture? Leave in dry rice, oven.

Big Thanks, it's works
make sure you closed all locks at those LIF sockets, the connections might be faulty when failed to do, no matter how precisely you put the connector on its place... also be aware that there are two pin rows on the socket, so even slightly pulled out connection will be faulty... got same problem with display when reassembling waterlogged phone, skips in connection made the display look like very poor CRT screen
same problem
Hi guys,
i have the same problem, but i can't activate the usb-debuging. That means I can't create a gold-card, which is needed in the link posted above :/

new digitizer also, screen touch screen not working, help please tried every thing. does the phone need to be rooted to do the gold card.. would this even work.. done a few wildfires. and this is the first one i have a problem with...
Had a similar problem, 1st replacement digitizer would only respond in a small part of the screen. Figured it was a faulty part so ordered another one from a different supplier. This time none of the screen would respond. Phone was set to 'charge only' and debug mode was disabled.
Tried this:
https://sites.google.com/site/repairlinks/htc/htc-wildfire-s-calibration
Formatted the MicroSD card first. I got a different message in step 7 but continued to follow the instructions and it worked perfectly!
New HTC Wildfire S digitizer not responding.
So I have been having a similar problem. I am attempting to replace the digitizer on my friend's HTC Wildfire S. The first time I replaced it, it didn't work. So I bought another replacement part made sure I was buying for the right model (tmobile). After installing the new one it still doesn't work. I have been trying everything I possibly can to get it to work. The first thing I tried was creating a gold card but I can't because usb debugging isn't turned on and I can't access it to get the CID. I have also tried rooting it but that also requires usb debugging. Then I tried loading the CalibrationWildfireS files onto the sd card and go through the steps (located here: https://sites.google.com/site/repairlinks/htc/htc-wildfire-s-calibration) and ran into a security issue wich caused it to fail. I have put a lot of hours into research and attempts at trying to fix this but I am stumped. Can somebody please help me. Facts: The phone is tmobile (gsm), bought a new gsm replacement, the touch screen is unresponsive, usb debugging is off and inaccessable. Assumptions: this is a software issue (pretty sure), there is a solution.

You have security fail because you didn't create a goldcard. Try generating the CID while in USB Fastboot. Can you do this? I mean does it show the white HBOOT screen when u press VOLdown + POWER buttons? Or it doesn't work AT ALL?

Yes I can load it into the fastboot and it shows the HBOOT screen but when I tried to get the CID for the goldcard it just didn't work. I thought it was because usb debugging wasn't turned on but I'm not sure. What is the process you recommend to get the CID?

[Error] Sdcard unexpectedly removed

This has been the second time getting this error on SG3.
The first time I checked if the card was corrupted by putting the sdcard in the netbook, it was recognized and displayed all the folders. Inserted the card again in the SG3 and it wasn't recognized, rebooted into recovery and fixed permisions and cleared cache/dalvik and rebooted. The card was back up and everything was ok.
Again happened today, tried the same thing and nada Now it also says "Sdcard blank or unregonized file system" in notification and it then prompts for format confirmation upon tapping it.
I've googled and oogled and keep finding different solutions, some I cannot try now since I'm at work. One of them suggest to move all files to PC and format the card, I'll give that a shot at home and see. Another was to update the firmware, but on the latest L13... Apparently, this has been ongoing for sometime and there is an open issue in google for this.
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=19722
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=9736 - Originally opened for LG Ally, but HTC and Samsung users have also reported it on the same issue.
Anyone else encountered this problem in SG3?
Happens to me all the time. Sometimes it will just continue to prepare then unexpectedly removed pops up, then that will cycle and kill my battery. I just got a new SD card hoping that would fix it but it did not.

I'm researching like a mad man! Found a few tools but most are for HDD and not microsd... found the one below that is supposed to detect the card/drive even if it's not mounted or has a drive letter and revover the file system, repair partitions, recover ALL file types, etc but nada
Had a few important fotos, my most recent nanroid, my TB folder, that last one hurt the most.
I didn't back up after the first "fix" cause I thought it was a one time things, never heard of this error before. Lesson learned

If your computer can see it and you don't mind losing data do a low level format on the SDcard

Mine is in that state right now, XP won't pick it up, booting up Win7 PC to try it. My Nikin S70 detects it but it says unusable and won't format it either.
Guess my only option is to partition the netbooks HD and install Ubuntu on it, this gave a good excuse to try it out lol

Apart from the info already here, nope... I need to buy an external sd reader that gets a drive letter assigned without the card and try to force mount on win and run chkdsk, it's the only thing missing. Not even Linux picks it up! Not even force mount! This sucks and seems to have been a problem in android for some time now...

i was not on the JB leak. Beginning to think this is a hardware problem, so last night i unrooted and am going to the sprint store today.

Yes and no...It was stated by some members that there was a write-up saying that you shouldn't format your card because this would deduct part of it's useful life.
I never formated my card, it was inserted as soon as I bought the phone and been using it since and never formated it.
I'm going tonight to Wal-Mart and getting a card reader and seeing if that helps in fixing this. In an earlier post I attached a link to an old thread that gives a solution that seems to have helped others.
FYI, just got back from the store and it is definitely failure of the SD card reader. They tested it and my new phone comes tomorrow.

Sprint store? How did they determine it?
I used another sdcard that I had, 8GB, and the phone read it ok...
Edit - then does this mean that there might be a factory reset on the card reader in the SG3? :/
all they told me was that they inserted another card and it happened. Mine also fried two cards so far, so it is definitely pretty bad and i was confident it would fail any test they gave it.

Hey guys
Been reading this thread, having the same issue.
Actually the only reason I post because I'm troubled of the error other then having an actual problem, this error been spawning up for me for quite a while, though it does seem to work perfectly fine.
You think the SD card could just Die one day ?
I hope you guys could determine if there's a factory defect in the SG3 or the Card, I got the international GT-i9300, I hope i won't have to return it, since the shop it was bought from is located at Poland and I live in israel (let's say that handling via warranty is not an option).
Need to check perhaps with samsung if they know of any factory defects regarding microSD card readers, My SDcard brand is Sandisk 32GB ultra class 6.
I fixed mine by completely removing the battery and putting in sd card then boot up. Sounds dumb but it worked.

my DHD is a killing SDCards machine... what to do?

ok guys im sick of this.
My Desire HD is killing all of my SDCards till now.
every once in a time (like 2 months, 3 months)
my DHD just kills the sdcard that is inserted..
I try to plug the SD to other devices but it shows it doesnt work and it is demaged..
So everytime i go and buy a new SDCard and everything is working fine for 2 3 months.
2 days ago my DHD killed another SDCard and im preety much sick of this.. i forget to backup like a moron and it freaks me out.
I will go and buy a new SDCard, but I just wanted to know how to fix it. how to prevent my DHD kill another SD Card..
Formatting really doesn't matter, its something with the system..
I have wondered if there any thing i can do? for example buy a new SDCARD reader suitable for my dhd and replace it with the one i have now or something?
is there anything like that or something?
My DHD killed like 4 SDCards till now..
Thanks.
Well what brand SD cards are you using?
Also do you have any apps that constantly write to SD? Reason being is that flash memory has a limited amount of reads and writes. If you have some random app that is using your SD as its sandbox then that would explain it.
As for the brand, better brands tend to make cards that last longer.
Finally by formatting, I assume your referring to formatting the card after it dies, to see if it will still work. If not try that.
