Right, I'm really confused here.
I recently rooted my Desire and flashed OpenDesire as a new ROM. Since this, I decided to switch over to a deFrost ROM, and as part of the instructions I flashed to a newer radio.
Since this - the phone's been SIM locked. I decided to bite the bullet and buy a code from an eBay seller - code came through straight away, and when applying it, it states "Network unlock successful". However, when the phone fully boots, it's still not able to connect to the network - and when I reboot, it asks for the unlock code again.
I'm a bit clueless. Any ideas?
You need to root it again this time using a GoldCard,, more here

That seems to have done the trick - thanks!
You should try sim unlocking on custom roms, flash a generic htc rom (not a branded one) and try the unlock process again

Yeah, I think this was the problem - trying to apply an unlock code on a custom ROM doesn't seem to work. As soon as I'd reflashed to the stock ROM included in the Modaco root, it asked for the code and accepted it permanently. All good.

It worked for me, just I had to put the code in twice that's all.

I think it may only affect certain ROMs - for reference, I was trying to unlock when using OpenDesire.
Hi,
I have this same problem, how can i get back to the generic htc rom ( or which rom would it work on? i'm using opendesire atm)
thanks
also i'm on a mac so can't do the whole RUU.exe thing
Can not unlock my Desire
I hope I am not doing the wrong thing here by asking this. I have be looking around to find where to ask. Sorry.
I can not unlock my Desire because I do not have a GSM sim at my disposal to use.
I did not know when I bought the code that I had to have one on hand to be able to unlock. I did not need one for my HD, TP, & TP2. Any one have a suggestion?
I just bought a Desire SIM-locked to 3 network.
I installed Clockworkmod recovery and AuraxTSense 7.9, I made a GoldCard. Than I put in the Telia SIM, and of course I can not use the network.
I looked around on the web, and found, that it should ask for the unlock code, but it doesn't.
On the lockscreen it writes: Limited service - Emergency calls only
How can I unlock it?
Hi Guys, I am having a weird problem that needs your help. I have been using my unlocked Nitro HD (P930) with the official stable CM9 rom. After hearing all the goods of miui, i gave it a try (with full wipe, data/factory reset, cache partition, and Dalvik Cache). After flashing it, the first thing that poped out said the network is locked and the page for sim unlock was shown. I thought the miui might re-lock my sim so I entered my unlock code. Then it said, "andorid.com has stopped". All i could do is to forget the unlock and went on to the miui home screen. After that my phone cannot pick up any signal at all. I used nano backup to restore my original CM9, everything seemed to work fine but it just couldn't pick up any signal. I went to mobile network settings to select the netwrok operators, it failed everytime. I tried entering 2945#*930# in dialer, it only said "Mobile network not available".
I tried to flash the same miui or my CM9 rom again, but my phone still couldn't pick up any signal.
Thanks if anyone can help.

Have you checked your APN settings?
you may need to reflash another baseband as CWM doesn't backup baseband so your phone failed even after restoring. I think you can find the cwm-flashable baseband on the forum.

I set and save the APN but the APNs page remains blank after I have entered things like PROXY, MCC, etc.

Thanks for the reply. I found Drumist's threat about those CWM flashable baseband. I tried the v10j and the v10f, but none of them work. Sorry for asking this dumb question but what should I do next?

Someone else commented before about their phone re-locking itself without explanation. The solution was just to unlock it again. I'm assuming you still have the unlock code?
The problem is that custom ROMs are incapable of unlocking the phone. You have to return to a stock ROM to perform the unlock, after which you can then return to a custom ROM. The stock ROM can be a CWM-flashable version for convenience.

1. 2945#30# is to bring up the sim lock page, where you can enter your unlock code. But it seems to me it doesn't work when your phone is already unlocked or you have a custom rom (just like what Drumist said)
2. I wiped it every time I flash a new rom just to make sure my phone is complete "clean", but I have no idea what it does :silly:

Seems you are having the same problem as I do. Simply flash back to stock rom and then enter the sim unlock code again, then your phone should be back to normal.
I've been trying to figure this out for a few days. I was on rooted 4.2 bootloader but flashed a badly named file from somewhere and am now stuck with the FNH7 bootloader I bought an unlock code after trying the dialer method and region lock away on a stock Metro 4.2 rom. The phone will not accept it and the screen for the code pops up at every boot to where the metro sim card won't even work. I tried flashing FNH7 from Keis and full reset and it still does it. It's at least on a Tmobile rom now as I read the methods I tried didn't work with Metro. But I also read that those methods didn't work on the metro rom. So I've tried a permissive kernel and a few different roms supposedly stock but none will get past the T-Mobile splash screen except the 4.4.4 one. I'm lost as I got the code from Metropcs and it was the same one I had bought but the phone just will not accept it and now I don't have Metro anymore so I lost my warranty I was paying monthly for.
So, can someone point me to help to get a working tmobile 4.2.2 stock rom with the dialer codes to try region lock away again as the official unlock code is a dud. I'm out of ideas and spent many hours trying to figure it out myself.
Don't flash a rom. Have you tried flashing the 4.4.4 firmware for metro?
Hi all. I have G3 bought from my carrier it is on stock lolipop recieved over the OTA. Only thing I was messing with it is TWRP and root.. As I thought it is sim locked I put another carrier sim in it. It boots without asking me for sim unlock code but can not connect to network and not allow me to enter network settings to o it manually ( it is greyed out ). The other sim works fine in another unlocked android phone.
Someone have an idea what is going on??
I have no idea. Sorry man

I had my share of rooting and installing custom recoveries and ROM-s for a long time, so my current thought is, is it possible that it is just software locked somehow?
I never saw this before..
Solved the problem, it was built in the Rom provided by my carrier "Vip.rs" grab my hand on new Sim card of different carrier on Fulmics 3.1 and it is carrier free. Just to tell you, if more people in Serbia have the same problem.
Hi guys,
Ive got an S4 mini id like to desimlock. It originally was a french Orange phone.
Orange gave me the unlock code, but it doesnt work at boot time with another sim card. I cannot access the advanced menu either, tried all of the possible codes (the dial keys code to access the unlock dialog).
Im rooted, with twrp and MM resurrection remix.
The guy from orange didnt cleary answer to me, do you think that could be due to the fact im running a custom rom ? Then should i try to go back to the latest official Orange rom ?
(would have to find it first...)
Thanks
flash a stock firmware then try again, this issue is happening because of custom rom
Thanks Anton, you mean a Samsung stock or a carrier stock?
you can flash unbranded stock, will work
Thanks so much, will try it out!
Doesnt work either. I have access to service mode and secret codes etc, but my (legit) unlock code is still not accepted.. Thanks anyway
