Fennoc (firefox) for armv6 - HTC Wildfire S

Just thought I'd drop a blurb.. Fennoc has started building for armv6 almost a week back.
Since the ftp is still dev/tester (from official ftp but not official release as of yet), I won't link it, but not too hard to find the ftp with a good search engine
Once your in, .../mobile/tinderbox_builds is where you want to grab your choice of beta, aurora or nightly (in central); listed most stable to most experimental.
Yeah there are plenty great free browsers on play store, but this is arguably the best open source browser. So search about and enjoy.

Firefox on android is a little disappointing though... (The features in general and not the beta build...)

Looked up your post.. a link to a working mod. These are Mozilla (concurrent) builds.. started 06/21/12. So its newsworthy I believe.

The great thing about open source is.. if one is dissatisfied, it can be modded. Even if not a dev-type, one can test and send statistics (which help the Mozilla team).
Which feature do you most dislike?
I am impressed by Firefox/fennocs print to PDF personally... formats better than other browsers (or their plugins) from my experience.
Good input.

I just meant, overall as for the user experience goes, there were better browsers for android but I didn't know about those features. Let me give it another evaluation and get back to you.

Hey again. I took another good look at firefox. I think the thing which made me dislike it initially was the lack of a full screen mode (I was using the ICS browser at the time and the way it manages the full screen mode is brilliant).
But as you said, it does have some good features. I like the master password (That's why I keep switching between ff and chrome on the PC) option. I suppose the firefox sync would be an advantage if you use it (I personally don't). And the way tabs are organized are good. I would still say that firefox needs some more work if it wants to compete with the ICS browser or dolphin.

Lol I was about to post this. Only just noticed it really.
Thanks anyway for sharing rob

new market, what do you think?

Hi there! Just saw that theres a new market for android and thought id start a thread where everyone could share their opinion!
http://googlemobile.blogspot.com/2011/07/new-android-market-for-phones-with.html
New market:
http://www.4shared.com/file/We4ubY3v/comandroidvending-1.html
Old market (from gapps-gb-20110613-signed_rc1):
http://www.4shared.com/file/jpMBtIzA/Vending.html
for me, the new market look is really neat, the way things organized is better than just lists like the previous one.
but at the first use, it might take a while since the market needs to cache the images first, but downloads now are top notch
Aside from the look -- like it or hate it -- had trouble with search locating apps.
actually i liked the old one better because of its simplicity and the new one lags until it has loaded the pics. it will take some time to get used to it. but well see
Looks good but slow and fc must if the time.

Yes, old one is better.
Old one was more faster. I miss too while i'm looking for some, while tiping, no hits come on the new market. But it is more kind and i think it have a better organize from the app's.

The new version of Market looks good but slower than the older version. I think I'll keep using the older version until google improve the stability of new Market.
The old market is better and faster the New one is to complicated to find apps
Send from my brain using Tapatalk
I would rather have the old one, when you do a search now you get app, books, and ??? (don't remember) then you have to click again to see the apps. Looked to see if there was an option to not see the books and whatever in the search but I couldn't find it,
I think it is slower and take more clicks to find what you want. Guess I'll just use the web version until they mess it up too.
My wife and I have yet to receive the latest market update.
A bit reluctant to download via the link provided above. Is it safe?

Try Boat Browser. Very similar to Miren. Miren was my choice too. I like Boat just as much.
I have miren and could post it if you need it. Pm me I still use it every day
If you could please post it. I just flashed cm7 today and went to d/l just to find it missing.

The cool thing about Miren is that you could get your bookmarks from an HTML file. I have yet to figure out how to get my bookmarks from Chrome to Dolphin, Opera, or the standard browser (I got them in the standard browser but not in folders, lame). I have ChromeMarks so know about that.
Its still in the market. My Touchpad couldn't see it either running CM7 for some reason. Try googling it in the browser and then click on the link to the market and select "open with Market" and it should show up and allow you to download. Worked for me on the Touchpad.
Another +1 for Opera Mobile.

Damn, another great app taken off the market.
Guess Maxthon Browser is next in line for default on my phone.
Do you use titanium? When I first flashed CM7 I thought I had lost most of my apps but they are at the bottom of the list on titainium with a line through them. Just restore them. I thought I had lost the anarchy launcher from TriNitY ROM but there it was.
Edit: The opera mini is really light on systems

Yeah, I saw the same on the XDA News section a while back. A day after it was discovered, the person who discovered Dolphin was "logging" your internet travels released a method to disable it. Afterwards, Dolphin hopped on board and disabled that function in an update. Dolphin was again tested and was found to no longer log anything.
My Top 3 Browsers (for anyone who cares to know) are as follows, and are in NO particular order:
Skyfire
Dolphin Browser HD
Opera

Dropbox App BETTER THAN Pre-release Update!!

EDIT: The update (2.0) is now live in the market, but you might want to BEWARE, read my comments below. These "bugs" I mention have turned out to be "features" of 2.0 so they will break what I listed. Update at your own risk. For me and the way I use Dropbox, the new pretty UI was definitely not worth the lost functionality. Fortunately I came across another Beta version (1296) that brings all the goodness of the UI update without breaking any of the good stuff the old version had! New file below
I just received a Dropbox Pre-release Update that I thought I'd share with the good peeps of XDA. (Posted this in Android Apps too, but thought I should take care of my E4GT peeps directly.)
Some nice updates coming down the pipe, but we get to play with it now. (Make sure you have a backup of your folder and previous DB setup.)
From the email:
Here's the stuff we've added:
• Favorites: quick offline access to files
• Bulk upload photos and videos
• Access all file and folder actions with just one tap
• Improved gallery view
• Upload from and export to your phone's memory
• Rename files and folders
• Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) improvements
• Numerous bug fixes and stability improvements
EDIT: Some nice UI changes, but some bugs in this as well:
The sdcard/Dropbox file is moved to sdcard/Android/data/com.dropbox.android/files/scratch and will no longer play nice with wallpapers, ringtones, etc.
You now add files as Favorites to make them available offline, but there is currently no way to make folders favorites, so you would have to mark each file you want to use offline
No longer an indicator showing whether a file is already downloaded or not
Added bulk upload, but still no bulk download
Lost the updating/downloading notification on the status bar, now we don't know when the files finished uploading/downloading
And here's the apk. If you still want to give it a go. And the Dropbox Forum discussion if you want to join in.

Based on the DB forums, looks like a different update and it's easier to work on iOS with it's limited number of variables (screen sizes, versions, vendor UI's, etc.) compared to Android. So it's not surprising that it generally takes development longer for Android apps and updates.

Not at all. In fact if you go to the forum page I linked in the OP, you can find the link for the apk there as well.
I don't understand how they still don't have two way syncing on the native app, but look on the market and you can find apps that do this just fine.

No idea, I haven't seen that one and nothing came up with Dropbox1306 when I searched, so probably not. As far as I can tell by the DB forum, this just came out today to beta testers. I only received it in my email about 30 minutes before I posted it so I think it is fairly new. Do you have a link to this "unreleased beta" that you are talking about? It would be pretty easy to tell if it's the same.

I think I just answered my own question, as I realized my "beta" file is called Dropbox1296... Anyhoo, here it is: http://db.tt/fOjjMX2q (and it's awesome).
But if this new one is an update of that^, (and, number-wise, it seems like it must be) then I'm switching, as Dropbox just gets better and better with every update.

If you give the one I posted a go, make a nandroid first and copy your sdcard/Dropbox folder to your PC because the latest removes it and moves the files into a Data folder tree. I still haven't received a good answer as to why. Wouldn't be a big deal, but I think it screws up the ability for the phone to recognize the files for media purposes (i.e. ringtones, wallpapers, etc.) Check out the forum link I posted and you can get a feel for what's going on.

Hey buddy:
*Thanks for the link in the OP to the Forum about the whole thing: after trying both, and realizing what you'd be giving up with either 2.0 or 1306, I'd have to agree with you....
1296 is where it's at.
I might make the suggestion that anyone who goes this route should definitely turn off automatic updates in the Market.
(I've accidentally done this before: I'll find a beta of something that I really like, and then forget the fact that it is a beta, then update it through the market: thus losing the functionality I had loved from the beta version.)
Anyway, thanks for the option: if I hadn't read up on it, I'd have just blindly updated it, just because of the version number.

No problem. The only issue or "enhancement" with 1296 is this new "feature" they have for downloading files. No more long pressand automatically into the appropriate folder. Now it's "download"and then select a location. But at least we keep the /sdcard/Dropbox root folder in this version!
If Dropbox actually listens to its community, those "enhancements" should be dealt with in the next update.

gingerbread wasn't 2.0. eclair was 2.0/2.1. froyo was 2.2; gingerbread was 2.3.
the small steps in versions are because they aren't big enough updates to warrant a big step in numbers. they are just incremental updates.
Flash works on stock browser on S3, make sure your on ICS for official support. For JB, you can search XDA there is a thread on how to make it work. Flash doesn't work on Chrome regardless of ICS or JB.

+1 Adobe ceased all support for android above 4.x, ICS and above... see article here and the list of compatible devices here.
And the video has so many uneeded steps, just download the apk and side load it with any file manager and use the Boat, Firefox or Dolphin browsers. Another work around is Skyfire, but that is outdated and las update was 2011...

Same here, there many sites that I go to to view video that are still in Flash (flv) format and the HTML5 take over will take a few years to get there. Youtube was one of the first adopters of HTML5, but many are still falling behind.
Thanks to this thread I've found the Boat Browser, was using Dolphin a lot more than Chrome. I find Chrome lacking and missing some features, expected a more robust experience. I'm going to keep it for now and see how it evovles over the course of time.
I'm using the xscope browser along with the swf player from Market. It's working pretty good...perhaps it'll work with chrome browser as well. Might wanna give that a shot.

After my longtime fight to get away from Dolphin browser I finally settled on Chrome. I use an app now called 'flashify' in the Play store. Whenever I hit a snag I share the page to Flashify which in turns allows me to carry the link over to another browser. In this case its the 'OCS Browser included in/with JellyBomb ROM.
Really bored one day I decided to track my battery usage and internet connections. I found that Dolphin was a bit of a hog compared to others. Can't get into the swing of Firefox. Used to use Boat but it seemsBoat was just right behind Dolphin Browser is size/data hog. It didn't really slow anything down that I could tell but I just felt Chrome would be... Less of a mem hog/battery/data hog than Dolphin. I could be wrong.... But seems to worm better for me. Just a thought...

yeah ive noticed that adobe flash is no longer in the market anymore, only reason why i was able to download from the market was because on the first day i got the gs3 i saw it once and download it on stock kernel, when i rooted and flash my rom it desappeared from the market, later found it under apps that i installed from my previous phone up until now from the new google data recovery. Now everytime i flash a new rom i can get it from the market throught the google recovery. forgive my ignorance, but whats so great bout the new HTML5 versus the adobe flash and what new features is it having?

Angel Browser - Great with alot of customization but bug on N7?

This was posted by a user called Glace at the Google Play:
I was excited by all the features and customization of this browser, but using SwiftKey Keyboard, inserting a space into a textarea scrolls the page down and doesn't insert the space. I even tried copying a space and pasting it in and it did the same thing. That makes this browser useless for my purposes, which is a shame.

Same problem here. I messed around with the settings a little bit but found no such solution to the problem.

I've been trying this browser, seems to work well. I keep going back to Firefox, but this one is still on my N7, that's a good sign! Not rooted, so hopefully none of the keyboard issues posted here.
Same problem on Kaos Droid ROM. Shame.
