I recommend you flash a stock rom first and do a clean install.
First install a stock rom with Flashtool then install cm 7.2

Nice one, thanks again.
And yes if you do this your phone should be working fine

tried this, firstly installing a stock rom .62 as suggested. made it worse. Now when i connect the phone to the cpu it reads it as an unknown usb device. i have had this before while trying to do this but i cant remember how i un-done it. Now i am at a loss as to what to do.
in the guide you have suggested i use, it tells me to download a .62 and says that is the rom my phone came with, but mine was .42, does that matter?
Please help.
Installed the drivers that come with FlashTool?
Enviado desde mi Xperia Play usando Tapatalk 2
followed these instructions to install stock rom, taken from another thread
Install flashtool from here: http://androxyde.github.com/Flashtool/
Once downloaded and installed head over to the directory of the programm and inside the folder "Drivers" install the driver located and chose appropriete options when the tick boxes come. Then download this FTF file:
https://rapidshare.com/files/6981940...1253-4437_.ftf
Now remember this is a Stock Firmware, so reverts your phone back to how you baught it in terms of Kernal, ROM, and baseband.
Warning: The process would delete use Data/ Factory reset
Files on the SD card should stay intact.
Through flashtool click on the main flash icon and select flashmode. The FTF file I linked you must be placed in a folder called "Firmware" again in teh directory of the programm before hand. Follow up the steps and your good to go. Once your phone boot up you will recognise the firmware is changed to the original Stock ROM.
this was the first step i have done after speaking with u last night and it has gotten worse. i installed the r800 drivers in flashtool and after the wizard has finished it doesn't show me where they are installed or anything, it just lets me close the wizard.
i have downloaded the files for 7.2 and gapps like the guide says but cant install them yet until i have stock rom installed.
Tried SEUS but thats doesn't help since my cpu simply doesn't recognize my phone.
Just noticed, when i connect phone now it flashes red led on power button every 3 seconds. forgot to disconnect phone and after what must have been about 10 minutes cpu prompted me to say some SEMC device had been installed. Closed it and tried again to flash the drivers from "Drivers" folder, and it happened again. as i type, the led is now green and im really unsure where to go next.

Have a bit of a problem updating back to 4.0.2.A.0.62. Since I got my phone all updates was done via PC Companion until I finally decided to take the big step forward and unlocking the bootloader and removing the sim lock. This was done by jinx13 (Thanks again!) My next big step was to root it simply just to get rid of all the bloatware.
My phone was already on the latest version, 4.0.2.A.0.62 via PC Companion as as I understand from the forums, it cannot be rooted and you have to downgrade and then upgrade OTA to maintain root as updating using PC Companion will remove the root functionality.
I got Flastool version 0.6.8.0 and then obtained the LT15i 4.0.2.A.0.42 Generic Global World ftf image from jlmc87's post "ARC/ARC S (ROOT.FTF&.IMG)4.0.2.A.0.62 Generic Global World+Flashtool+Ringtones+Other"
I downgraded to 4.0.2.A.0.42 without a hitch, then removed all the crap using constin's post "The Complete Comprehensive List of System Apps for Xperia Arc" as guidance. I then checked the OTA update and 4.0.2.A.0.62 was listed as available. I then proceeded to download and instaal this upgrade. The phone went through the motions of rebooting a few times and appeared to be upgrading but in the end a dialogue box shows "Software update. Could not install new software version. Try again" I have tried about seven times with the same end result before giving up on this option.
Next I tried to upgrade with a .img and proceeded to download Pre-rooted_LT15i_4.0.2.A.0.62_Generic Global World.img also from jlmc87's post, but how do I install this?
I searched a bit on the forums but could not get instructions suitable for a n00b like me to follow, so it was mostly trial and error and a lot more searching.
Once again I used flashtool and this time round I selected to flash using "Fastboot mode". In the fastboot toolbox I then selected "Reboot into fastboot mode (via ADB) and once this was done and drivers installed I selected the option "Select kernel to Flash" I selected the image and the process started.
I thought I did it and my phone is now back to the latest version whilst maintaining root, but unfortunately I got excited way too soon as the upgrade was not successfull as the "Image wont fit because the partition is too small"
Could this too small partition also be the reason why OTA upgrade didnt work? What to do next? Any help and advice greatly appreciated.

Dude, once you unlock the bootloader, you must not update your phone using any of the Sony update utilities like pc companion or ota update service. This would brick your phone.
Go to general section of this forum and search for the thread named. "FOTA Bricked devices" or something like that...The thread will guide you on how to get your phone back to normal. And the download links in the first post are not working I guess,so navigate yourself to the 16 or 17th pages of that thread to find the working download links.
Sent from my LT15i using XDA
Hi KingWickedd, thanks for your comments. My phone is not bricked, it is fine, all I want is to upgrade it to firmware version 4.0.2.A.0.62 whilst still maintaining root. Currently it is still on 4.0.2.A.0.42
I will not upgrate using PC Companion or OTA but can not install a pre-rooted IMG image of .62 firmware.

OMG! You are trying to flash a system image in the boot partition!?
Instead of using Flash Tool, use fastboot and command prompt to flash the img file to the system partition.
Code:
fastboot flash system system.img
Remember to download the fastboot package and then copy the img file to fastboot folder, rename it to system.img and run the above code in the command prompt after navigating to the fastboot directory.
Or simply use this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1551073
Remember to flash that img file to "system" partition and not the boot partition.
Thank you very much!! That did the trick!! Thanks for pointing out the huge mistake I (almost) made!!
I updated using QuickIMG

Hello
I'm using flashtool and it tells me my device is rooted, but when I try to flash the lupus kernel, flashtool tells me my device should be rooted.
So here is what I did: - I was a bit noob at the start and a lot failed, tried flashing the kernel multiple times but did not have drivers. (I tried rooting my device multiple times)
- Some research and I figured I should unlock the bootloader. This worked fine.
- Whenever I open up flashtool it says to me my device is rooted, but when I try to flash the kernel the error occurs telling me that my device is unrooted.
Now I'm not sure my device is rooted as it should be or is there something else I can do?
Thanks in advance,
Pazy
EDIT:
this is my log I got now: I tried some other drivers for my device :

As you can see I tried the lupus kernel CM9-480 and CM9-720, both gave me another output! Is there a specific reason for?
Hello,
I was preparing my Xperia S to change ROM to new official JB:
Firstly, after wiping SD Card it dissapeared and couldn't be mounted, I tried to get it back wiping caches and formating system (it was the newest PAC installed there with another recovery - not CWM, which allows me to copy files to SD Card using PC in recovery mode - I wanted it back).
Secondly, I installed this stock kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2250287 using flashtool on fastboot mode LOG:

, then rebooting device to system and after that my phone is totaly dead.
Before these operations Xperia was charged to ~90%, was unlocked and rooted.
Diodes are dead too, even when I charge the phone with loader.
When I hold power and vol+ for ~10s i feel three vibrations and nothing happens...
Probably this kernel (Advanced Stock Kernel v1.0) provoked this problem, I've installed so many another kernels on my device and it was always fine.
What to do?
U have xperia S kernel is for xperia P

1 install android sdk from here (just leave all the stuff like it is & press on install packages): http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
2 go to: [install location of android sdk]\sdk\platform-tools put kernel (boot.img) here
3 click in some empty space in this folder, then HOLD [SHIFT] while right click in this folder & choose ''open command prompt here''
4 power off phone. hold the menu-button while connecting to pc. the blue led will lit which means the device is in fastboot mode:good:
5 now in the command prompt enter ''fastboot flash boot boot.img'' it will flash kernel & tell u all is okay.
6 done
i get same fail that device must be rooted first oO its kinda wird because my device is rooted i use SU daily im 100% sure :/ maybe fastboot can't get permission for root but i don't know how to do that :/

okay some guesses.
1. you use win 8/81 ? --> there some driver problems there is a solution here in xda just google. need install these
2 you need install fastboot driver from flashtool in its install dir in driver folder
3 can try this to see if device connected (from sony site):
Enter fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce getvar version, and verify that you get a response back (for example "0.3"). This means your device is connected properly.

good luck
No root here means your bootloader is locked...
