NOW it's official!
Downloloading now! I've been a very happy AOKP user but I've been dying to try out CM9, I just wanted to wait until they were officially "Stable" (even though I know the nightlies have been solid).
Ah nice. Good to see it finally made it to RC status. JellyBean is just around the corner now though.
Just Voided my warranty with this. Now my refrigerator is 10 degrees warmer inside and all my ice cream just melted. Anyone else having this issue? Otherwise ROM is great!
Thanks!
Just made the switch tot CM9. Came from AOKP.
Always used CM on my N1. But when I got my GN I saw that AOKP was much more popular. But now with CM9 I'm just as happy as the good old N1 time.
(I really hated the unicorn stuff on AOKP..little bit immature if you ask me)
I didnt notice much speed or battery life differences. Will post my opinion later this week.
Thnx Cyanogen

Unsure why OP has outdated gapps (dated 03/17)
http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-ics-20120429-signed.zip here are the latest gapps (04/29). And before anyone asks, yes I flashed RC1 with this gapps (04/29) and works fine.
Great release! Looking forward to additional CM9 contributions being made. Switched from AOKP as well, so far so good... only feature I really miss is resizing the navigation bar.

Changelog is right here: http://wiki.rootzwiki.com/Google_Apps#Ice_Cream_Sandwich_.28Android_4.0.x.29
Didn't really remove anything.. they just simply updated the gapps with newer versions of Google Apps.
Nice!
Is that the latest GAAPs? I seem to have a load dated April 29th here.
EDIT: Sorry, I'll learn to read the thread lol

Ya but are all the features/options found in AOKP are in the CM9? For example, weather on lockscreen, different choices for status bar drop down toggles etc? Last time I tried CM9 I found it stock and not to my liking. I like customizations like AOKP has.
I found out later that the unicorn was considered cool by others so it didn't bother me as much and once I installed franco kernel, I typically replaced the boot animation with franco's...
nice, give it a try...
and yeah, the rainbow unicorn is definitely uncool and the biggest problem of aokp!
Coming from nightlys, should we wipe everything then flash or can we flash over the last nightly? Thanks in advanced
I'll give this a go. I'm not flashing often enough anyways

You can always flash a different boot screen, it takes all of a second to do and if you use TWRP you can just chain the boot screen. I didn't care much for the unicorn, but I dont't think much of CID either.

I'm going to hazard a guess and say that officially you should wipe and start afresh, but feel free to just flash over the top - just don't expect much support if you run into issues.

Weather on lockscreen is also in CM9..
About the toggles. I really liked the AOKP ones, more ICS like. But... They take up all lot of space. You can simply press to hide but I like them to be there quickly..

Weather on lockscreen is there. Status bar drop downs.. there. Lock screen customizations, etc.
Many of the features from AOKP are in CM9 (with the recent versions of AOKP they're actually implementing features FROM CM9 into their ROM).
Such as their kernel, GNParts, AOKPStats, and a bunch of other features.
Try the ROM, just make a nandroid backup beforehand.. if you don't like it. Swap back. Like I said, only feature I REALLY miss is resizing the navigation bar to a smaller size.
I liked AOKP but I had a large number of problems with the ROM, my main issue was that it was being bloated with more and more unnecessary features.
AOKPtips.apk, swagpapers, etc.... basically unnecessary things like that. They all add up and build up to become a very bloated ROM. Not to mention again, they've started to add features from CM9 into their ROM which made it even worse. CM9 is more simplistic but still very customizable to use.

What kernel is included in this ROM? Is it in any way overclocked? Should it be replaced with the venerable FlyKernel? Or is it a perfectly optimised Gingerbread kernel that should be left well alone?
Kernel recommendations for this ROM would be extremely appreciated
Also, big props to everyone who's worked on this! I'm extremely grateful that my auld Hero's still supported.

You can always download it from the market I believe.

Note to all others: this is hardly any different than the nightlies.
There are quite a few bugs at it :-/ I got no clue why exactly it is declared as stable for the Hero device

No I can not find it on market, because of the country I think :/
The nightly's where more stable then this stable release :/
It seems fair stable. Just really slow and animations seem to drag.
Imah give it a miss. Had it running for 2/3 hours and I've gone back to villan13 just for the pure speed of it.
Sent from my HTC Hero using XDA App
There are quite a few bugs actually. Although I'm finding performance to be very good, it often crashes (screen just stays black) when transitioning between screens.
Often dialog boxes don't show up – the screen will dim but the dialog won't appear.
I'm going to perservere for a while though. I really like CyanogenMod ROMs – stock Android, but nicely tweaked. Since the Froyo builds haven't been updated in ages, this is probably worth sticking with, especially if a point release can come soon that fixes some of the little bugs.
Aw man, it's sad to hear that none of the bugfixes we desperately needed appear to be in this release. Hopefully they'll be sorted out in due time, though.
How many people with the invisible menus bug are using compcache?
I turned it onto 18%, and had the bug something rotten. No notification bar menu thing, no apps list in ADW, settings menu broke. I managed to long press home back into the performance menu, turned off compcache, reboot and not one invisible menu since.
With regards to speed, it was terribly slow, so I downloaded and ran the script floating round xda to put the I/O scheduler into noop mode, downloaded SD increase from the market, set it to 2048kb, and just set moderate in autokiller, and everything is smooth now at 576/19mhz.
Possibly the worst hero rom I've used.
unable to scroll in some pop up menus.
black screens randomly.
slow slow performance.
What happened? I've been on cronos for a while, but had a nightly about number 20 and that was fine. To credit a developer with being in charge of the hero section and to release this rubbish as a stable rom, with the standard the cyanogen team seem to set themselves is an embarrassment to all their previous work.
Agreed, this should not have been released as stable for the Hero. For those looking for a stable Gingerbread ROM you would be better off trying Cronos Ginger, or Elelinux's GB ROM (although I haven't tried that one).
First I red post title and got very excited, then I red your posts and now I feel like sticking still with stock sense lol.
the invisible menu bug rears its ugly head once again. is it a hero specific problem or is it a gingerbread specific issue?
I like it very much!!!
Using this ROM still early beta, compiled from sources. Not a perfect one because of some bug (coming from AOSP) but very usable. Another point: this is the only ROM with FULL sources code available, so it is easily customizable.

there is no information about the RC('s) in codeworkx's thread. his thread clearly says nightly at the top and is for nightlies and nightlies only. the "latest version" link does not count because following that no matter what will show you *all* options. this is the standard CM way of doing things. a thread for nightlies and a thread for stable(ish) version. feel free to check any other CM-supported device's section and you will see both as well.

RC1 = stable(ish)
nightly = bleeding edge
RC will only be updated a few times over the next few weeks until the final build is released. nightlies will continue to be pumped out every night. benefit of RC is you can post issues to the issue tracker and actually contribute back to the community.
So whats the deal?
Used to run CM on my HTC Magic.
Have heard that there are issues with battery life etc. on SGS.
What are the cons of SGS CM71. Cant seem to find list of good/bad issues.
Also, the nightly "must be on froyo" is not listed on the CM7 webpage (and this thread). I can flash from sammy gingerbread now?

Yes, but you had best add it to the install instructions here too, or the 15 questions you get about bootloaders a day will become 150 or more. No fun at all.
Also, it notes in the instructions on the OP that if you are updating a previous CM7 install, you do not need to flash Gapps again. This has not been true for around 15 nightlies now...has whatever issue that required reflashing Gapps along with a nightly been fixed?
Downloading it..
Finally a RC release ..good work Cyano's Team ..

the ROM threads for RC releases are cookie-cutter, only replaced with proper links/md5sums. as for the gapps thing, I've been flashing updates every few days and have literally never once had to reinstall gapps =/
also, rschenck, please don't leave me to moderate this thread alone, you make the i9000 threads worth reading
And ANOTHER question....
If I opt not to install the RC1 release itself, but wait and install the next Nightly, which would be 40 for the i9000. Will that automatically update me to RC1?
Plus I am always ready to lend a hand and/or a stinging bon mot, you just seem more up on the RC1 situation than I so I defer to your wisdom.
Lastly, regarding reflashing Gapps, it has been advised as a precaution for ages now to avoid potential trouble. I see no harm in continuing to do it.
Kaik, thanks for the thread. Downloading the RC now (I've been running nightlies for months, if this is good enough I might have my dad run it!) Just wondering, are you a member of the CMSGS team? And if so, do you have any insight to headphone controls being fixed?
A little suggestion..
PLEASE CYANO'S TEAM READ THIS:
See at SuperAosp 8.6 camera..is similiar at Cyanogen camera but it is best in graphics..background black ..photo button better..see it please

personally, I always run under the assumption that each and every flash will horribly destroy my phone and make backups of apps with TiBu and nandroid every time while praying I never have to open heimdall again. I then keep the gapps zip and at least one earlier nightly on my SD card. RC1 is basically just a "nightly considered stable for the purpose of bug reports" for official means. nightlies will always surpass stable builds (and will always come with the risk that they are far more likely to break)

I'm an honorary member of teamhacksung as it were. I've been out of the i9000 group because coolya and codeworkx mostly have it under control and rschenck provides the right amount of help while being entertaining in a way that I couldn't possibly hope to be. as for headphone controls, atinm is aware of the issue and it's on the list of things to be fixed (including TV out at some point).
I didn't follow that much the Nighlies thread in the past month because i didn't have time to flash and reflash continously.
I'm wondering, on this RC1, if everything works, including all that didn't work perfectly in nightlies builds.
And what about battery life? I switched from JVH to JVP and i noticed a small reduction of battery life. Is CM7 RC1 overall better or worst than the aforementioned releases?
ANyway, thumbs up for the passage from nightlies to RC, i was looking forward for CM7 on my SGS since when i bought it in January. Coming from an HTC phone i really missed the speed and functions of CM.

It's in NS4G Android development. You will see it a few threads down. Even after just upgrading from nightly 125 to the stable release wallet worked after I flashed the fix .zip then again I has wallet working on 125 to begin with because I did a complete wipe when I installed it. YES! Finally no more flashing stuff for a little while and simply enjoying a fluid CM7.1 and wallet! I'm deleting all my backups now and making just one of this stable release.
Oh yeah, anybody else notice their battery go to 100% now after flashing this stable? Mine did, I was surprised to see it display 100% and not 94%.

Does anyone else have two separate "Music" apps after flashing CM 7.1 and the gapps? For some reason I now have both the old style Music app (with the speaker icon) and the new headphones icon music app.
Otherwise, I'm loving the update.
The key to google wallet is flashing the fix directly on top of the rom you flash in the same recovery session.
I have taken the google wallet fix from the dev forum and modified a lil bit. Updated Shopper and no duplicate system nfc and tags apps.

I'm charging tto full capacity as well. Freaking awesome.
Also, my accelerometer is borked coming from 131. Just wiped cache. Beware. You may have to do a full wipe.

What is this? Do we need to flash this on top of CM?
Does anyone else here get the occasional "black screen" where the phone won't seem to wake up and requires a battery pull?
I've had this problem on the last few phones I've had but it's only with CM. I thought it might be clocking/governor related but doesn't seem to be.
I think Cyanogenmod may be the best thing to ever happen to our (or any) phone and I'd like to get this figured out so I could count on it.
I will get the necessary pastebin put up the next time it happens; I was mainly wondering if anyone else had this problem.
Thanks!

I guess were skipping CM8?
I had some problems with GAPPS and Market working correctly at first. A reflash of the GAPPS package solved the problem. I know with some other ROMs doing a reboot between flashing the ROM and flashing GAPPS helps to avoid similar problems, so might be wise to do.
Otherwise, everything is looking good so far. I like the new lockscreen.
Good job! i am using this ROM. faster! the kernel is 2.6.29, why not use 2.6.35?

After playing around with the 35 kernel, I think 29's battery drain is more reasonable.
Although the slightly performance advancing is not noticed by me...
Does this rom support a2sd+? Thanks!
is there an option to change the screen density to 140 DPI? I tried a patch from the VanillaEclair thread, but this causes a loop at the bootanimation. The circle completes one full round and then freezes, causing the animation to start over.
Any advice please?
EDIT: I'll just use LCDDensity then
Thanks for the 7.1.0 Stable, working great till now
Again having bug with video on 71-st minute!!!!!!!!!!!!
another issue i have is that the market indicates google maps is incompatible with my device...
EDIT: Seems to be related with LCDDensity. I can install it if I set it back to the default value of 160. Weird...
I have issues with SIM pin code with stable release and nightlies, does anyone have same issues here?¿?

because it's an official stable release. the .35 kernel hasn't reached official stable release yet. the .29 kernel did reach that point a long time ago.
If you want groundbreaking tech, don't use this rom. if you want stable and solid and cool stuff compared to the stock hero, use this rom.
cheers

official cm roms do not come with the following hacks:
- ext based apps2sd
- dpi changing
- launchers other than the free stable version of adw
- kernels other than the current main stable kernel (which is the old .29 kernel but highly modified of course, either it is fly13 or is very similar to it)
if you want this rom but with cool addons and extra features and a sexier/faster/smoother launcher and more active xda-based support, use elelinux cm7 3.5 (or later). it's the same basic rom but with his cool UI mods, a2sd, and so on.
Elelinux is the official gsm hero cyanogenmod developer anyhow so you know you're getting the best of the best with his cm roms
But this is certainly a cool rom if you don't like ext partitions or smooth launchers. I tried it and it was solid and stable. I prefer ele's 3.5 rom though for it's extra features.
Interesting reading about how so many Heros' are affected differently.
What really surprised me was that when I installed Ele CM7-3.5.1 and doing a full wipe of all over GOku 1.3e, Ele's rom booted up with all my apps including all Google apps, right at the the first boot???? I was amazed, never having this happen to me before.
Anyway, I have tried most of the latest roms, mainly GB and Froyo but I just keep coming back to GOku 1.3e or VE6.1 because I have also found odd things happening on the other roms. They all excell at doing most of the stuff that I need from a working 'phone. These things do take time and the developers really are amazing.
VE6.1 for blazing fast and stable and GOku when I need better sound for music.

Only way that can happen is if you didn't wipe ext partition. In cwm recovery that is automatic. In amon-ra you have to do it manually every time. Although in this case it wasn't a problem since they were similar gb roms so compatibility issues didn't affect you.

I had the same experience with flashing Ele's 3.5.1 over Goku's 1.3e. Apps were the same, even email was setup for hotmail. I figured I'd missed a wipe but am pretty sure I'd done it. I generally wipe twice between new roms, but perhaps I'd missed something. I use cwm every time.

Well i stayed up to install it. So far so good. I was holding out on an older WFTN build one before many people started having wifi and data issues.
GPS 3G, 4G, WIfi all working well so far. Won't really know for a day or two. Can't be sure of anything but my initial impressions are good.
Whoa!! Thank you! Great Job man!

Congrats buddy, Good job. But i don't get why i cant find it under devices on the cya site?
Edit: Did any drastic changes or anything really change from unofficial? JB modems do work with 4g ONLY no 3g support

thanks for getting our phone recognized....Finally!!! Great job bro!
Great Work. I have been waiting for this day!
Side Note as I see it was asked, there is no data while on JB Modem. We know this to be true because, Dastin hasnt mentioned it as a fix in WFTN Build as of yet. Also, just to confirm. I flashed a JB modem and come to a result with no data.

Thanks, i didn't see it in op to not use a modem and i thought that was the requirement for it to become a CM official rom.

So just for the record, how will WFTN differ from these nightly releases now since we have official support?
Pretty sure WFTN will be dead as hes going to continue to work on this rom and tweak it to make it perfect. With it being official i assume hell be getting alot more assistance from the cya community which will be great! other more exp people will have to elaborate more than me

Really nice work btw. Will likely be moving away from this device soon but will certainly keep running your builds on it as it'll make a good play/backup device.

My understanding was that official cm builds needed to remain pretty "pure" while wftn would give the flexibility to add whatever tweaks dastin wants. I've asked the same question and may be making all of this up. So I'll let dastin tell us for sure.
All up to dastin for sure. I don't know why he'd wanna start adding tweaks and halos and stuff when he was going for pure and clean before but if he wants to start dabbling with wftn like that he can but as he always says he doesn't have much time so i figured he'd pretty much drop it and move on to full support of this i may be wrong but hell be the only one to answer it.
