I have a galaxy Nexus on Sprint. I have started noticing ads in the notification bar and now I am seeing ads directly added to my home screens. Has any one seen this, or have an idea if an app might be doing it?
Thanks
John

Yeah it's an ad being pushed by an app have you downloaded any suspicious apps like free music downloading or anything similar. If so that's why, this app android monster has linked should find the culprit.

I know an app is causing it. problem is i don't know which one. is there a way to find out what app is causing this?
I take a dim view of any app that has that kind of advertising and doesn't state it does and I am very sure this is what happened.

name apps you have? Weird, never seen advertisement on notification bar

i have seen a few but only from a few known annoying games like
Gun Bros
Star Blitz
E. Warriors
and a few others all of which created by glu development, comes with spam bots background service
so when i DO NOT play their game, i simply FREEZE them in TI
as it's both annoying, and waste of phone resources when it keeps running in the background
I've got some advertisements from my tunee music downloader but that's all

I seem to have this problem too. For me, there's a silver/orange star next to the ad.

all news to me. I never had these with Tunee music either
The culprit is a push system called Airpush. Certain apps exploit the system to place their adds. You can download a free app from the market called Airpush detector that will tell you which apps are using it. Mp3 downloader was the offending app for me.

There are ads when browsing for a movie but no ads during playback or push adware so far I've had it for about a week.

I played one movie to see the quality of it then exited the app and a few seconds later I was getting ads in my notification pull down.

Had to uninstall. This app kept making me screen come on at random times... :/
I got push ad notifications even when not using the app.
Haven't tried the app but you can disable the notifications in the app info screen under application manager...should disable the ads.

Try and remember what apps you installed when it started happening. ..or if youre rooted get a ad remover

Simple, long press the notification, then select APP INFO and it will open the app that opened it and uninstall the app.

If I were you, I'd download a real Anti-virus app. If a font can load that, who knows what else it loaded.
I would follow pbelcomp idea to get rid of this problem.
There are security suites that are okay, like Lookout, avast, Kaspersky, etc... The suite I use is Lookout with Premium account.
I try to stay with more trusted developers for free and paid apps. I also find that developers with paid apps are less likely to do this then free only app developers. Paying for something has its advantages.
Reviews or lack of also speak volumes about the app in question. Even with ROMs I would check out the developer's reputation and reviews on their work before even thinking of trying their application or ROM. That is where the community helps out in a huge way.

Hello
I've been trying to update several apps here and for some reason it is not working.
This started to happen after I saw the upgrade notice for Android 4.3, which I haven't been able to install either.

try to clear the data/cache of the play store and reboot after that.
Didn't work

I don't think there is a known fix for this that works for everyone. Actually it is possibly an issue on Google's end. http://productforums.google.com/d/msg/mobile/2UKJ7ZyIav0/jHQD4F7QAhAJ <-- that thread has quite a few things you could try, as well as more links to look at.
Perfect
And it was surprisingly easy to fix, just remove, and readd the Google account.
I feel dumb.

What the crap is with the screen dimming and tv cast watermark that appears on videos seemingly at random? Never noticed this before the note 3 and I doubt it's phone specific but I figured I'd ask here anyway. I can't seem to find a setting to disable that.
