Anyone else nervous about dropping their phone before they get something tuff enuf to protect it?? I am!! Seems like it's gonna take forever to find some in stock somewhere. Wish they made the commuter with a holster. Anyone got any other ideas that protect as well as the OB defender that has holster and looks nice 2??

I admit I am too. In fact, I "plan" on waiting till I can get a defender before getting the phone.
That's the plan, though once I see it in a store I may change my mind and get it then.

Yep, that would be me. Mr. Nervous/Paranoid that i'm going to drop my phone before my Otterbox arrives. They do make a Commuter with a holster, it's called the Defender. As for what other cases look and protect as good as the Otterbox, try this

I have been an Otterbox fan since first getting one for my IPT a few years ago, I've only bought Otterbox cases for my devices since but they're taking too long to come out for this phone so I had to go with Incipio and I gotta say, it seems like an equally awesome case.
Black Commuter
The Otterbox site is selling the black Commuter. I snagged one and got a tracking number. I too prefer Defenders. However, Otterbox will not ship Defenders or ANYTHING with color until LATE JULY.
I have Defenders on my Blackberries. I like how the Commuter is less bulky, However, I need a belt clip/holster. Open box; Insert SIM, SD and Battery; Apply screen protector; Install Otterbox. T minus 2 days!
My relationship with Otterbox is starting to deteriorate. It started with the Commuter only for Vibrants and the delay it took to get a Vibrant case out. As a case manufacturer, how do you not have a case ready for a super phone(GS3), that has a released intl model with the same dimensions? It proves my belief that Otterrbox is run by apple fanboys. Betcha they have warehouses full of iPhone5 cases.

I keep tweeting @otterbox telling them if they don't get their defender cases out soon for the S3 they are going to lose me as a customer and I am sure countless other people sick of waiting for them to get their act together. If you talk to them, they still say they don't even have a ETA date really for release, just broad time frames that they themselves aren't even talking about, it is their distributors that are telling people the time frames of release.
It probably is a bunch of fanboys. They are so involved in getting their precious Armor case out for the iphone 4s they didn't get their act together on this mega-phone that is blowing the iPhone away.
I have the otterbox commuter. It is a very nice, high quality case. Looks awesome too.
Two cons, including the buttons are stiff as hell and it is a PITA to get on and off.
Once it's on though, it's perfect!
I'll be getting a defender ASAP and hoping I don't drop it in the mean time. I'm not normally not a case user though as my MOTO stuff has held up great without.

Yeah look a little closer to the Amazon ship date. That date was originally 6/22 and they have been pushing it back more and more as the days go by. Truthfully I don't think these suppliers know when Otterbox is going to release the Defender, and talking to Otterbox I don't think they have a clue either.

I have been waiting for this case for a while now!! I have been in constant contact with Ballistic about the release date and so forth through phone and email. After they posted the new pics of the redesigned back, and delayed the release even further...I went out and bought the Seidio Innocase Rugged with Holster and LOVE it!! Was considering the Otterbox Defender as I love the Impact and Commuter but the Defender got horrible reviews....
SO, with 40%, I will probably jump back on board. At $50....I'll stick with my RUGGED and like it!! The Seidio Rugged seriously is an AWESOME case, and having the Innocase too is nice. I bought it just for work, the evenings and weekends I let the Evo run around naked. Though I have found myself taking off the exoskeleton and silicone case and leaving on the Innocase in the evenings...its pretty nice!

I have to disagree on the Seidio case. I thought it was great when I first got it, but after just a couple weeks the port covers were tearing back into the case and I had to cut them off to stop the tearing. Then one day when I went to take the skeleton off, a piece of it just snapped off in my hand. The camera cover wouldn't stay pinned back anymore, so I had to cut that off too. Finally, the holster is a really poor design. The lock gets unlocked too easily and then the phone can just fall out. It should be made so you push down to lock it and pull up to unlock.

That sucks!! Hope that doesnt happen to mine. Mine is actually the Best Buy Platinum brand version. Which appears to be slightly different than the ones branded Seidio. I think they took the flaws from the Seidio branded cases and fixed it on the Platinum branded cases, or so I heard (really looks that way too). For those who dont know, the Platinum brand that Best Buys sells is just Seidio product with a different brand name stamped on it (it even says Seidio on the bottom of all of the packages :-D )
I bought my Seidio Rugged from Amazon..not a port cover has torn or a piece of the skeleton broke off in my hand.
I read this in all the reviews..and all I could do was facepalm and make the purchase KNOWING that these behemoths' were just trying to rip the case off rather than "REMOVE" it. A little finesse goes a long way.
I won't replace my Rugged, just like I never replaced my Seidio case for my G1 way back. I will cheat on my rugged for 40% off that sexy looking ballistic though..even though at full price it's ugly.

Mine lasted since the release date until I broke the skeleton a couple weeks ago. No problems with anything else. The rubber on the replacement they sent is quite a bit heavier and the exoskeleton a slightly different design. I told them it would be nice if just the skeletons were available to buy separately in the Seido store and they said they'd pass that on to sales. If you guys have any problems tell them the same. Oh yeah and colors would be nice too.

Actually, I wasnt "ripping" it off. I just used my fingernail to pull back the corner and release it and it just fell off in my hand. However, I still use it every day and it still does a good job of protecting my EVO. I would just expect more from a case that costs $50 and claims to be "rugged". I preordered mine, so it was one of the first batch. Maybe the newer ones really are better.
Discount or not, I do plan on getting the red Ballistic case when they are available.

These are the only cases I know of that you can also use with a holster.when I had it for my nexus there was also a option to upgrade to "rugged"which was perfect for me because I was doing construction.

I second that! I usually use a holster with my phone and this case looks sweet. Otterbox won't be coming out with a defender case for our phone so I think this is perfect! I'm gonna us this for the daily and the TPU case when I need to go light
Nice. This is the kind of case I was looking for. It reminds me a bit of the Agent 18 cases for the iPhone (but slightly higher quality, it looks like).
Has anyone used these cases before on other phones? It looks like it has some rubberized material on the outside? Does it attract lint and dust? The official Gel case (which has now become slightly stretched and useless) continues to pick up every annoying piece of debris. I've given up and gone bare until something better (like this case) comes along.
Do a search for "innocase surface" on YouTube and you'll see a lot of reviews. They describe a slightly rubberized feel to the case, but apparently it isn't tacky and doesn't attract dust or lint.
Yes it is 2 pieces and it slides together. Its had that nice slightly rubberized feel to it but not too muck to their point it grips too much

I'm a big fan of the Seidio holsters. I've had one for my last few Blackberries. I tried several different holsters but I was traveling a lot and working in ceilings and not one of them lasted more than a month. The clip would inevitably break off. It happened once and I didn't notice until later. I had to spend over an hour looking for my phone that was on vibrate!
I chose the Seidio because it looked rugged. It never failed no matter how much I abused it. Now that I have an MT4G I'm really looking forward to getting one of their holsters for it. I've never used the Innocase, but I hightly recommend the holster. It's built very tough without looking like it. I don't see they have one listed yet for use without the case, but I'm hoping they'll make one.

Really, I bought a Otterbox Commuter for my Captivate and hated it and returned it the next day. The hard plastic looked cheap and the rubber was a lint magnet. I don't have experience with Seido cases but I bought a holster for my wife's iPhone4 and it's great.
Had an Innocase on my BB 8900 and It was good for the most part. It was one of the slide up ones. But It DID scratch the chrome part on the phone.
I did drop it multiple times on the floor and nothing happened the phone. BUT, one day it dropped about 3 feet down to concrete and the case cracked and wouldn't hold the phone well like it did before.
IT did fall on concrete almost that high before and nothing until that one day.
Also sliding the case off a couple of times messed up its sturdiness. Sturdiness as in, when I'd slide it up it stay on. after a while it wouldn't stay on well.
On my N1 I bought an Otterbox case and it was the best case I had. Even though it attracted lint and was hard to take off sometimes, I wouldn't buy any other case !
EDIT: got a battery from them for my N1. The thickness made me get rid of it. Come to find out the stock battery lasted way longer.

Hate cases. I like my devices to stay thin.
I'll be getting a ghost armor kit when it comes out, and using that. I have one on my current HTC Aria, and have dropped the phone a bunch of times, no damage. Might consider doing the battery cover in 3M Di-Noc carbon fiber vinyl so the back actually has the CF look all the way to the edges.
I was going to get a OB defender but since I ordered the multimedia dock I don't want a case that is hard to take off.

I used to be an avid Otterbox Defender guy but just got tired going bulky.

Picked up my Atrix today and got the OB Defender with it. I like the heft and protection of it, honestly. The only thing I wish is that the screen protector that is part of the polycarbonate shell wasn't so prone to grease marks. Looks like crap and I've had it less than 8 hours.
I got the otterbox today. Feels good on the phone. Doesn't really feel too bulky. Actually makes the phone fit better in your hand. I usually hate otterbox, but this one is excellent

I agree. I've always made fun of my co workers with their iPhones in an Otterbox, but after trying the defender on mine I bought it. It is bulkier, but not too bad. Not looking to use docks or anything so that works out.

Yea, I was about to pull the trigger on getting the case-mate. But you cant compare that quality to Otterbox. They are the best.

I've actually spoken with Customer Service and a product manager over at Otterbox. They said they know for sure it will release this summer. They also said that normally after a product hits their site, they see a 4-6 week delay until the product is actually sold to the public. I remember back when the iPhone 4 cases were to be releases, it was about a 6 week or so delay. They just want to make sure they have enough stock for the first wave and that they don't run out and cause big back orders as it will be hard to catch up. Most importantly, they have other cases to supply as well and I am pretty sure they order from one or two factories in china as all of the cases are shipped from there. So they can only make some many cases at a time. Please be patient... I know that I myself cannot wait. Dont get a case-mate. It wont compare to otterbox.

Yes, no problem getting them on and off. My other half has a commuter on her Blackberry and I had a defender for mine a few years back

Yea.. If you read my previous post, I said that i spoke with Customer service and a product manager over at otterbox and they said it will launch sometime soon this summer. No specific date but my money is on Mid July or so.

Interested to know what these are like as people seem to think they are great... Looking forward to some pics and views from the first owner on here...
My top choice at the moment is the Neo Hybrid, but still have a few weeks until I get my SGS2 so time to be convinced otherwise...

Neo Hybrid and otter box cases are two different beasts entirely.
Neo Hybrid is mainly for looks and very minor protection, overall build quality is very light and not very sturdy. The Otterbox cases are designed to be rugged and able to easily take drops and bums with no damage what so ever.
Using Neo Hybrid myself and yes I think it looks great but offers very little protection and quite worried if I actually dropped it that both case and phone would have a good chance of breaking.
There was a thread a week or 2 ago where someone emailed Otterbox about the SGII Epic Touch and they said they didn't have the phone in hand, so they didn't design the case. That being said, I'd assume it would be just a matter of time before they got in gear and put their noses to the grindstone.
So now I see they already have a case for the new iPhone 4s. Are they just going to completely overlook the SGII Epic Touch? This upsets me.

The 4s is the same exact phone as the 4 as far as design goes.
just wait for trident to release their case next month. way better than an otterbox.

definitely are.
right now it is scheduled for sometime in november and to be an aegis case.

all i know is when i had my evo, the otterbox failed to deliver. everyone i know that bought the highly awaited defender case was sorely disappointed.
meanwhile, my trident cyclops case took a beating and kept going. when i finally sold my evo, it was in mint condition.
otterbox may get the job done, but trident does it cheaper and better.
Otterbox's excuse is a load of crap. Third-party accessory makers have access to prototype shells long in advance of a device's release.
Otterbox has the single most overrated cases out there. They used to have decent iPhone cases but they have gone downhill dramatically in the past year. I had all of their EVO 4G cases, the impact was crap, the commuter was OK, and the defender flat out SUCKED.

EDIT: Oh lawd some of those Trident cases look amazing! I hope they don't disappoint with the Epic Touch case. I'll buy one for sure
Otterbox took a gamble with the 4S case and it proved the smart choice. Most everyone was expectinga radically changed iphone and waited to see what to make new cases for. Otterbox's gamble paid off for them and retailers that carry their brand. Hopefully someone releases a good holster/case for the epic touch sooner rather than later! I hate carrying in the pocket. But until a better option comes out it's the safest place.
