Just like the tittle How can I do that with HTC One X? You can turn off other phones completely by turn it off and remove its battery. But since the One X's battery is unremovable. How can I turn it off completely? Thank you
Btw, I am new in this thread, so excuse me for being a noob Thankz

I couldn't find a way to power down the device via the hardware buttons, but there is a way to force a restart, after which you should be able to boot into fastboot/recovery and fix whatever issues you're facing. Subsequently, you should be able to shut it down from your ROM's power menu.
From the HTC website:
If HTC One X does not respond when you touch the screen or press the buttons, you can still restart it.
Press and hold the POWER button for at least 10 seconds, and then release it. HTC One X then restarts.

when you hold down the power button, you get three options. top one is power off, middle is airplane mode, bottom one is restart. the top one is the one you want and is the best your going to get as like you say, you cant remove the battery from these phones. dont see why you really need too either other than if the battery dies.
just hold the power button for 5-8 secs and a menu will appear.
Turn off fastboot in Settings. Press and hold the power button with volume down held until you get into the bootloader and select "power down"
Just another method of powering off completely.

That is not possible. The quickest is via the menu apperaing when holding the powerbutton. You could download an app allowing you to power down the device via a shortcut on the homescreen.

Hi everyone,
I'm posting this thread because I'm heaving a problem with the On/Off switch of my phone... Since yesterday it doesn't work anymore, so when I push it down, nothing happens...
Yesterday, the power-controll menu (the one who appears when you push the swith down for a couple of seconds) appeared now and then, and my phone randomly switched on and off, so I'm thinking this may be a hardware issue...
My problem here is that I bought the phone in a store that's far away from where I live, so I can't just go and bring the phone for repair... But in the meantime I can't turn my phone on... The only way I can turn on the screen is when I connect it to a power source or when someone calls me.
I've searched the interwebs for software that may help me (something like a button remapper, so that I could use the central button for example as on and off switch) but that's only for rooted devices, and mine isn't...
Any propositions ?

I think his phone was on, so the problem was that he couldn't turn the screen on.

Well actually yes, the device was on but it turned off because of the battery... Luckily, I managed to restart the device by plugging it into the power source and remove/putting back the battery several times...
I noticed now that my battery is draining really fast, the phone can't hold a day of normal usage
so i notice HTC one x battery is not user replace-able. How do you force the phone to shut down in case the phone is freezing or whatever reason?
hold the power button for about 10 sec simulates a battery pull

I think you have to hold down VOL+, VOL- and POWER together to do that. Just tried it on my phone and it shut the phone down. Not sure if it works in situations where the phone is frozen though.
What Daan said, hold the power button until it shuts down (max 10sec)
thx, i haven't got my one x yet but this should be useful when my one x arrived.
with the power button (hold for 10sec) you can only force a restart on the hox!
but how can you make a shutdown only with hardware buttons?
for example: the display cracked and you want to power down your phone?
as far as i know, no chance to shut it down!

The closest you get is 'holding power + volume down' for around ten seconds. The system will reboot into the Booloader, where you can select power down.
fastboot oem powerdown (if you are interested)
note: you cant turn off the one X ,instead it runs the recovery in a low-power-hidden mode.

Just uncheck the fast boot option in settings and it will completely shut down, to force it just press power button + vol down

Fast boot mode already off, i thought my phone was off until I tried the adb commands on my "turned off" device. (it takes around 10 seconds to start hidden recovery mode)
Shutdown only with Hardwarebuttons. NO CHANCE !
good comments, but nobody had a really good answer for my question from post #6....
how do you shutdown the HOX, if you have no chance to access the touchscreen or see anything on the lcd?
the thing is, i got that problem, that i had an cracked display.
when i disassembled it to put in the new display, the HOX started up, because i accidentally pushed the power button...
how can i now shut it down, if it´s disassembled?
i tried, but with hardwarebuttons only, you have NO shutdown function at all....

Its Workin Thanks buddy i've tested it with Samsung A3 runnning Android 4.4.4 :good:
Hello xda!
I'm in the process of sending my phone of to be reclyced. Gets me a bit of money and helps the environment or a third world person!
However, I think I have bricked my HTC Desire.
I wanted to put stock ROM on it, and I tried to flasjh a custom rom too it. Now its stuck at the purple circle at boot. (T-Mobile Desire)
Obviously could fix it going into bootloader, but the Vol Down button doesn't work so I don't know how to do it!
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Tim
Have you tried pushing, really really hard?
I thought mine was completely broken until I really had no other choice but to push it very hard.
Try that and when it does not work, battery out and in and try the same until it works.
Dont push so hard that something breaks inside
Just so u know my buttons dont work for bout 90 seconds so maybe just leave it for 2 mins.

I dont know what you mean you hold vol- down and switch it on, when the htc sign comes up it didnt work.
So you push that vol down very hard and keep pressing it and turn it on
When it works you are in the bootloader 3 seconds after you turned it on.
Black screen and then the bootloader.
When you see the HTC sign instead of the bootloader, take the battery out immeadiatly and retry.
Do that maybe 5 times and press a little harder each time.
You can also turn your phone off and hold the back arrow button and power on, from there you can go to recovery with the volume up button ?!

I've tried the Power On + Back Button, doesn't boot into anything, same purple-never ending screen.
I've tried pressing the Vol Down button really hard, nothing. Weird, as all other buttons are fine!

If he read my post right he would be in bootloader & recovery hours ago !
Starting to feel stupid now.
Pressing back + power, but still purple screen.
I'm guessing you mean hold down the back button first, then hold down the power button?
Yes !
Don't know what I'm doing wrong. I'm pressing down the back button, then I press down the power button. Then it boots to the purple circle.

Hey. I have a big problem with my HTC ONE X. When I put it in my pocket it restarts because if you press the power button for over 5 seconds it hard resets. I read somewhere else that the combo for hard reset is the volume and power button. Is this true? If yes why my HTC ONE X resets only with the power button? Can I change it somewhere? Is very annoying because every time I put the phone in my pocket then next time I will unlock the phone it will request my SIM unlock code. Soooo annoying.
Thanks
Long pressing the power button forces the phone to abnormally restart, and the combo takes the phone to bootloader mode.

Oh there is nothing to do about it Just keep it always in my hand I guess.
Press the power button for 10 secs, the phone will have a force restart, which is helpful when it freezes. You can use a cover which makes the power button harder to reach, so it doesnt get pressed when in your pocket.

I like HOX, but I don't like where they've put the power button!!!

hiya guys
how about when the handset has not been sitting in your pocket and has been on charge in a location where there has been no chance of the powere button being interfered with, just happened to me 5 mins ago.
cheers
Hi All,
Please help me if you can with the problem I am now experiencing
HTC One X is my first android phone, i have had it for about 3 months. It has been brilliant ever since i had it
However last night I installed the Amazon APP Store as its now available in the UK. Ever Since my phone has gone absolutely haywire
Its a real stuggle to get it on, if you hold down Power it vibrates and the 3 lights flash a few times, then nothing. Sometimes it comes on! Then when its on its DEAD slow, like really really slow, also after a minute or so the resolution changes and things are all in the wrong place; then the touchscreen doesnt respond, so i turn it off and the cycle continues
I have managed to get back on it, and to get rid of the Amazon App store but I am still facing the same difficulities.
My HTC One X is UK version and is on stock ICM.
Do you have any ideas how I can return it to working order?
Also: DAMN YOU AMAZON
EDIT: BTW, when i press power, the lights at the bottom are on, and i can hear the volume sound change, but no screen. I am trying to factory reset but cant get the phone working long enough to find it
If you press and hold power button + volume down at the same time the phone will boot into Bootloader. From there you can do a factory reset. Navigate with volume keys to Hboot and use power button as confirm. There should be an option there for factory reset..

Unfortunately i cannot get the PC to look for it, and i cant get into the thing where you hold down power and down arrow
I think the screen has totally given up, which i dont understand; this was always a software issue
Install a RUU matching your device and then see what happens. If that doesn't solve it, then MAYBE hardware issue.
