You haven't mentioned what firmware your phone is running. GB or ICS. Give the version number.
Next, is your bootloader unlocked?
And thirdly, have you read any of the guides out here? There are already a few threads on rooting your phone.

if you are on .42 than you can try zergrush
Which fw are you on? .42? .62?
I suggest you download the Generic Global World .42 fw for the LT15 from this thread here.
Flash it with Flashtool. (You'll find it in the Development section. It's a stickied thread). (Turn on USB Debugging before that).
Use Gingerbreak to root your phone. It's an .apk file. You just need to install it from your phone. Just make sure you're allowed to install non-Market apps.
And that's it, you're rooted. Update Over-The-Air to the .62 build.
If you're feeling up to it, I suggest you unlock your bootloader (if you're not carrier-branded) through the Sony website. If you unlock your bootloader, you will void your warranty!!

i don't think you can root 2.3.4 with gingerbreak, only 2.3.3 and earlier.
zergrush will work well

When my cousin bought his Arc he got an imported French version so we flashed Nordic 3.0.1.a.0.145 and got rid of all the french bloatware. Now I'm trying to update it to 4.0.A.2.368 but we cant use the official softwares from SonyEricsson to update. It simply says: "the phone contains modified software that cannot be updated".
The current state:
Version: Nordic 3.0.1.a.0.145
Bootloader: Unlocked by following instructions from SE's website.
Desired state:
Version: 4.0.A.2.368 (Nordic if there is any?)
Root is not required. Perfer to use official Rom or close to it.
Read the namaste guide, although if you don't need root you just needed the flashtool.

Thanks for replying. The bootloader has been unlocked. Do you happen to know if I have to relock it (there is a thread on how to do this) or can I skip this step and just flash directly?

Just flash direct, but remember you won't be able to update OTA unless you relock first.

Hi guys.
I'm having a little trouble finding out how to un-root and flash back to stock rom and kernel.
I have searched around for like one hour, and cant seem to find any threads that's answers my question. So therefore i need some help.
I want to re-lock and get back to stock (As i just bought the phone).
Information's about the phone (Kernel/firmware/etc.)
Android Version: 2.3.3
Baseband version: 7X30A-AAABQMAZM-1290_21-22
Kernel: 2.6.32.9-perf [email protected] #1
Version: 3.0.1.A.0.145
If there is more information you need, then just ask
Thanks in advance
For relocking your bootloader check this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1134335
And for unrooting this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=18879974#post18879974
Or just flash a firmware using PCC or SEUS, then the root is also gone (after you relocked your BL!)
if you want fresh stock,
relock bootloader, flash any global fw,
and reflash using SEUS.

Flash the relock *.ftf file with flashtool.
Then flash another firmware using PCC or SEUS.
You'll have a locked BL, stock firmware without root.
I think that's what you want.

Can the new flashtools root 4.0.2.A.0.62 for arcs with locked bootloaders? Already upgraded once to find out i couldn't root it. Has anyone done this successfully with a locked bootloader as I don;t fancy experimenting again.
yes mate flash the old kernel from the .58 or .42 or .283 FW by excluding baseband & system in flashtool b4 flashing after that root as normal with zergRush..

Thats what i did last time i experimented and it didnt work. i installed 62 then flashed the 42 kernel with flashtool. But zerg wouldnt root it. But i flashed the kernel only. in one of the 62 threads there were links to getting it rooted with locked bootloaders. This went to a guide with nothing about locked bootloaders in it, only unlocked.
somewhere here in the forums is a thread about CWM for locked bootloaders, with that you CANNOT flash custom kernels, but old kernels in zip format, hang on i'll get you the zip + the link for the locked BL CWM.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1390771 this is the link for CWM: follow these instructions for the arc : 1.Run install-cwm?.cmd
install-cwm1.cmd for Xperia Arc / Neo / PLAY
2.Enable USB Debugging on device
3.Connect your device using usb data cable
4.Follow on screen instruction
and here's the kernel it's the .283 kernel
it wasn't custom, it was the stock kernel from .42 flashed to .62 and zerg refused to root it. Although apparently this worked on previous versions as i tried flashing the .42 kernel over onto .62 as a tip from one of the other members on here. but I couldn't get it rooted in the end and gave up and went back to .58.
flash that kernel via CWM
so if done with cwm mod it should work then? Whats the difference flashing the kernel with cwm as opposed to flashtool? Would have thought it be the same.
dont know the difference, but this one worked for me
cheers ill give it a go.
no problem feel free to contact me via PM if you still have problems

I have the exact same problem as you. Did you manage to accomplish anything? If yes would it be easy for you to explain to me the exact steps? If not is it possible to give me the address or send me the .58 firmware for arcs (the ftf file). I wasn't able to find it somewhere. Thanks!
upgraded to .62 then tried to install cwm but it wouldn't let me as the phone needs root permission to be able to install it. So how did you deal with this? I also flashed the .283 kernel with flash tools after updating to .62 and zerg again failed to root the device.

Ok, I'll give it a try.
Before I go back to .58, is there any rumour if Flashtool is going to support rooting on .62 firmware soon?

Nope... the zergRush exploit has been patched on .62 fw and there wont be another exploit on Gingerbread, since we're going to ICS.
is there anyway to root 62 without unlocking our bootloaders or is it nay to impossible?
So far I wasn't able to find a way, so I think I'll just go back to .58 or .42 and root, waiting for the official ICS.

Must flash 0.42 firmware with flashtool and then make a root, and update by OTA (over the air) to 0.62.
Do not update in PC Companion !!! Use OTA update.

Please go through all the posts (only 2 pages contains important links) in the thread below. The thread is about similar question like you.
Read all the instructions carefully and know advantages and disadvantages of rooting and unlocking bootloader.
Unlocking bootloader will void your warranty. (You can also relock your bootloader but you will lose DRM keys). All the best. :good:

No try re-doing it and just wait mine used to freeze the odd time n id just leave it and go back to it. I used to always root, unroot using superoneclick. Take it ur bootloader is locked??
Sent from my GT-I9300
yes, its locked, itried like 3 times already so i decided to do a factory reset on the phone trying again now and at step #7 not responding.
left it running for 20min or so nd kept "not responding"
If u are on the 69 or 62 firmware then it is not possible to root them with superoneclick or the zergrush method. Has something to do with the exploits which would be removed in latest firmware. One way is to downgrade to an older firmware which works with those methods, the other to unlock your bootloader+custom kernel+custom rom.
downgrading is the same as using flashtool?

no my phone does not have bootloader unlucked, i dont know if it can be done since the only method i have found is directly with sony. do i need bootloader unlocked so superoneclick works? or for flashing on flashtool?
You don't need an unlocked bootloader to flash ftf files with flashtool. Just put the ftf file in the firmware folder of flashtool then install drivers if not installed already.

Unlocked

just flashed it with uk version, i think its rooted but idk if the network data is working since i cant connect to android market or receive photos through texts
its rooted i just checked with root checker, now im gonna update the phone im waiting for it to charge, my question is how do i get my internet back?
Superoneclick has nithing to do with "unlocked bootloader". And jes you can flash with flashtool if yours locked.
So if your firmware is one of them above then you can downgrade with wotanserver or flash an older firmware with flashtool.
But if im not wrong you will lose all your data, so backup.

I just realised that the reason that it want working was that my antivirus software would get rid of the zergRush file
The easiest way to root any Xperia play. Just flash any pre rooted kernel E.g if you are on GB just flash doomkernel v14 and get root access.
my pc does the same thing i think its just something to with the pc's os because my friend did it on ubuntu via wine and it worked fine...
