I been using AOKP for the past week and I have done quite a bit of traveling within WA state. My signal strength on GB roms used to be great without any problems. this is my first ICS rom and also the first time i have flashed radios on it. so far, the signal has been very poor, never any better than -97 db and usually -113 db regardless where I am. I have lost service while traveling and it was nearly impossible to regain service. i have been with other tmobile users that had service on their phones when i had none. i have tried three different radios and all showed the same results. also my gps is nolonger accurate as it shows my position several blocks from where it should. having reliable service and gps are my priorities as i travel all over and would like to get this working properly. when i do have service, my speeds seem just fine but the coverage is just really poor from what I am used to getting. does the rom have an effect on the signal strength or is it completely dependant on the radio?am I doing something wrong? thanks for any help.

i had a problem similar to yours..my phone would take around 5 -10 mins after every reboot to get signals..and even then it only got 2 or 3 bars at most. btw this started after i started to flash ics roms/radios. i could never get it fixed and so i had to get rid of my phone
well that is reassuring...any other suggestions?
alot of people are saying that the blaze radio works very well up in the northern half of the sates. i personally havent tried this myself but maybe it could work for you?? make sure to run DS clear cache before any flashing.
if it was my phone and i saw that it kept getting worse and worse, i would just use odin to flash the stock tar file to get back into a fresh stock gs2 with stock radios then just root it again and dont mess with the radios.
hope that helps some. good luck
I'm having the same issue. Can't find a solution. Tried several different ROMs and radios. I've found if you turn off wifi and reboot it enough times you can get it to pick up eventually but this is annoying and I'm trying to figure out a permanent solution.

Phone is dropping bars like every hour or 2 its really annoying I'm with mobilicity and with ugkL1 baseband. Any recommendation what to do?

What do you mean by "dropping bars"? Phones gain and lose bars depending on signal strength. Unless you mean it's dropping right off the network?
Ya 0 bar and no service and it says like that for hour sometimes till I reboot

Are you a new customer to Mobilicity? If not, what phone did you use with Mobilicity?
Try putting a different SIM card with a different provider and see if the phone is still losing signal.
I too experienced this issue. I am on the TELUS network with a Galaxy Nexus (as of the 20th) and have noticed my data and signal would drop quite often. So I tried doing the System update to 4.0.2 and had the exact same problem with modem KL1. So at this point I tried flashing a Android Revolution ROM and that didn't fix it. Finally, I installed the AOSP Kang Project ROM with Baseband XXKK6 and now I have no problems at all. Data works as it should, and my signal stays in the green almost all day (except for when I'm at home, but that's because I live in a Basement Suite).
Give that a try!
I have the same issue.
And so does the people in this thread:

That's a lot of complaints on that site. Could this be a software issue or bad radio on Samsung's part?
Been thru two phones like this. First one was good for about a day then started playing up. After 3 days it wouldn't connect at all. Sent back for repair, still waiting to get it back but they claim it "should" be fixed with a new ROM - I tried all the available ROMs and radios at the time and none worked for me.
Got another GN while the first was being repaired, lasted 3 weeks and started doing the same thing. This one wasn't rooted, left untouched. It would connect in some places but would drop off the network enough to make the phone unreliable. Sent that one back as well, they're saying its a hardware issue with the internal antenna.
Both were different builds from different places too but the faults behaved the same. I'm waiting to get them both back, will be interesting to see if the software or hardware fix lasts longer... I have no doubt at least one of them will go back again!
Still hoping for a solution to this. Stock galaxy nexus on telus, brand new sim, had this happen. I could literally watch my service go from 5 bars to 0. Go dark grey. then go light grey and slowly creep back up and then go blue again. This process took 15 minutes sometimes. In Calgary, where there should be 0 signal issues.
I've since tried every baseband available, none seemed to solve this.
I've noticed the signal quality in general though is fairly weak. I work in Oil and Gas on remote locations. My coworker has a stock iPhone 4s. His phone consistently gets more bars than mine. I can't even send texts sometimes, and he'll be on the phone talking. I'm jealous.
I'm still suffering from LOS. Sprint tells me there is nothing wrong with my ET4G radio and they are probably right. In areas with a strong signal, the phone is great. In weaker areas, the phone struggles to even maintain a connection to the tower. This results in lost calls/texts as well as major battery drain. EL29 actually seemed to make it quite a bit worse than EK02.
On any given day, my "Time without a signal" is 60%+. No LOS yesterday, but 3 the day before. I even went back and completely wiped the phone and took OTAs from Ek02, then EL29 just so I could go to Sprint and not get a hassle about rooting.
My EVO3D and EVO4G struggled as well, but at least they stayed connected.
Any suggestions on further fixes? I love the phone, but hate the radio.

I suggest that you are correct. Now what?
I hear the Photon has a fantastic radio, signal wise. But I have also heard of LOS like phenomenon. It's a Motorola so I'm more inclined to believe it has a great radio. YMMV, of course.
My Evo4G had an awesome radio. I just didn't know it at the time. My Evo3D sucked. NS4G was even worse. ET4G is just a hair better than my Evo3D. Perhaps it's just new phones.
I wish I had better news for you.

Do you have true LOS (as in you get the circle with the slash through it and the only thing that will bring the signal back is a reboot), or just bad signal (ie: circle with slash but it eventually regains signal on its own)?
With true LOS, perhaps it is hardware and you could try exchanging the phone? With bad signal, obviously it's just the crappy Sprint network with our not so great radios... perhaps Roam Control or flashing Verizon's PRL may help.
Try downloading all the radios. Flash and run one Fort awhile and set if you find one that works well with the phone. I'd also try a replacement. I'd also try checking out the topic about how to get a free airrave. If your other phones had problems, you could just be in an area that has bad coverage. Your situation sucks for sure.
I don't know whether this is in my mind but since I have upgraded to JB, I seem to be getting weaker signal reception.
I live in a major LTE market and signal is usually pretty good outside on the street. Once I am a few feet from the street, say in a restaurant--even with big plate glass windows--or a house or a backyard, the signal drops to unusable.
This weakness was most graphic this past weekend when I found myself at a backyard BBQ. I couldn't get enough 3G signal to use the internet. Friends (running GB) with the Bionic or Thunderbolt, also on Verizon, standing right next to me were able to get a bar or two and reach the internet.
I'm not holding out hope that a radio release will miraculously fix our signal reception problems.
Wow! same problem here. When I flashed JB 4.1.1 I noticed a big difference in my reception. In rural areas The Galaxy Nexus has horrible reception anyways and We, I say we don't need to be getting weaker signals after flashing this really fast Jelly Bean rom...lol

The Verizon JB roms do not have any new radio's in them so I am not sure why you would be getting a worse signal then before. You should still get the same crappy signal you were getting on ICS.

I had the same issue with my nexus. What I did to correct it was flash other radios that seem to help a lot more.
Here just search for vzw galaxy nexus radio and you should get a search with androidcentral. You will have all ur radios there.

Which radios are you running? FA02?
There's a thread on rootzwiki that has all of the historic radios for Verizon. Reading through it, some people have run a hybrid FA02/FC05 radio setup and say that's pretty good for them.
All I know is that I've got to figure something out. I went to a movie over the weekend and had my GNex in my pocket. I went through 50% battery during the movie because it couldn't find signal... and I wasn't really in a rural area.
I had generally bad service across the board 2G,3G,4G since getting the phone from Verizon. After flashing jellybean and keeping the stock FC04/FC05 radios cell service is pretty similar as expected. I cant really compalin given the area I live in but my old LG Env touch had stronger cell service. The most frustrating part was last week when I was with my friend in the hills of New Jersey where I could not get a single bar of service to even make a phone call and he was getting enough 3G on his iPhone to get on the internet. Rage.
Complete repository of all the radios:
http://goo.im/stock/toro/radios
I flashed FA02 from the command line and everything seemed to go okay but I still see FC04.
Hmmm...
Edit:
I redownloaded FA02 from the link I provided and the flash worked fine. (I had FA02 sitting on my drive from a previous download.)
I'll report back my experiences with the hybrid.
Are you trying an FA02/FC05 hybrid? I was tempted to do a flash-a-thon tomorrow night (busy tonight) and try each radio back to EK01/EK02 to see which seems best.

Nope its worse. I went froma -61dbm signal at home to -75. To make things worse, I lose data in rural areas now and my wifi sucks.
I am currently running Diet ICS from 8/8. I have just moved to a new house. The coverage here kinda sucks. However, I had some friends here this weekend with iphone's and my wife has a Motorola Atrix. Their bars appear to always be higher than mine. I have tested this throughout the weekend with data, calls and texting. Theirs all work better than my S3. Is this a function of the phone, the Rom, the radio? Is there anything I can do to the phone to improve it, ie:new ROM or radio? If so, which ones? BTW I am in the U.S., Wisconsin to be more accurate. Any advice would be appreciated.
edit: Running on AT&T...
Try the different radios. No one can tell you what works best where you are because we aren't there. Other than that, I can tell you that I get better reception when I don't hold the phone on the bottom. Just an FYI.

The best combo I have found so far is the LEM modem and Milestone 2 rom I get 1 bar more all of the time everywhere. The other modems for me even though they are newer it seems if you loose signal it takes 4-6 mins before it picks it back up LEM seems to get signal back in under a min. Knock on wood I think I have service everwhere now in my house. I have had the s3 for about a month and had issues with signal in my house where my iphone 4 has always has service.
I work in downtown Houston and, while I am always connected to either 3G or 4G, I consistently have terrible phone signal. It'll only ever range from zero to 3 bars and I don't even think I've seen a full signal since I've owned this phone. Now, this isn't too much of a deal as I can always text and make calls (although it takes a while to connect sometimes.), but I'm left wondering if this is a cell tower issue or if something may have updated incorrectly. I'm rooted and unlocked and have only ever flashed the last 6 or so Lifeless ROM updates, so I don't really think I could have messed it up myself, but I find it hard to believe that downtown Houston would have such bad phone signal. Any insight?

I work in Downtown Denver and have a very similar problem downtown, but not out in the suburbs. My Sprint store has given me a couple of explanations.
1) The buildings block the signal. There are areas of downtown, particularly by the tallest buildings, where occasionally I will drop my cell signal completely
2) In a higher concentration area signal is reduced due to more people using that signal (I don't understand how this one affects signal strength, but that's what I was told)
How is your signal outside of the downtown area? Did you update Profile and PRL after flashing? Ever dropped the phone?

Well, I live about 14 miles west of downtown, and even there, I don't get full strength signal. As I said, I don't ever remember seeing more than 3 bars of signal. I update the PRL and Profile after every flash, and just today I dialled ##72786# to see if the hands free activation would do anything but no luck. I've also encountered moments where I'll be at home (again, I normally have data coverage and a few signal bars) and suddenly, I'll get an alert notifying me that I'm roaming.

That happened to me the other day. I was at work and I got roaming pop up. Really weird since that never happened before and because my 4G is so strong. 36168kbps Down and 6304kbps up.

This has been an issue on every LG Sprint phone with Android I have used. I am not sure what causes it but the bars on the screen never show full strength. That doesn't mean it isn't working though. I have heard it is just how LG worked the rom to show signal.

Let me first start off by saying this is the furthest from the truth. If it shows a weak signal its because this phone has a weak signal.
This is my 3rd day with this phone and as much as I raved about it on a couple of threads, weak signal is definitely one of the negatives.

Dude the LTE radio has nothing to do with the phone signal. Two separate radios.
This phone just has weak radios. Now the question is, is it a software or hardware issue? my bet is software but then again I'm not an engineer
Edit
Funny thing is open signal maps gives me an 85dbm reading yet in settings it shows 94 dbm

I don't have an issue with 3g I get great 3g signal my issue is with lte. Lte has bed in my area since late August early September and I've had the s3 evo lte and the iPhone none of them have had an issue picking up or holding lte the lgog does.and I think it all boils down to the phone not recognizing the correct signal and thinking its weaker than it truly is. In my house and through my town I would never drop lte On the others this phone barely holds it. I've been 100 yards from a cell tower and the phone won't go below 84dbm when I know the signal strength is stronger
I installed the Network Signal Info app on several phones in my store and the LGOG registered about 9db worse consistently compared to the SGS3 or Evo LTE
About the same thing I've seen with this phone I'm hoping its a quick fix for lg with the next update. I was really hoping that zv9 would come with a new radio
