its not too hard. I remember this from my epic. Its just tedious Modding the services.jar but it is very cool.

Hope someone can make it for us..

+1! THAT looks cool!
edit: as I got some free time today I read some stuff and found the file that has to be changed (in the framework-res.apk /res/drawable-hdpi/unlock_wave.png)
unfortunately, I'm to dumb to recompile and sign it lol.
Anyways, here's the lockring as png, maybe someone's able to do it.

Ok you don't need to decompile an apk just to change an image just open the apk with something like 7zip browser to image and replace it no signing or compiling needed also you don't sign framework-res.

Actually no there's more too it. Otherwise it will look funky. But yeah the image is a start.

Would it work to theme the actual cm9 rom to get things themed that themes can't get such as lock screen? That's the only thing I can think of right now but I'm sure there's more things. Would this work or does the theme replace any files that would change whatever was changed from the original rom?

Yes it will work just fine. As long as the theme apk doesnt interfere with what your themeing it will be just fine. I'll break down what the theme is..
Essentially it is a redirection. It has the drawable folders just like the ROM for whatever DPI, in the epic's case HDPI. How it works is a redirection XML will shoot the application to another XML which is written to specify what goes where. Such as the status_bar... you would place that image in the Drawable-HDPI and the XML for the SystemUI.apk would be written for that [email protected]/status_bar.png if you catch my drift.
Of course its a bit more complicated but that is the essential. just an FYI if you decide to ever make one.
Ya I get what you're saying. I have thought of making a cm7/9 theme but never had time. But I think I want to just add a little more to the theme that hasn't been done.

CM7 and CM9 themes aren't cross compatible at least fully.

Ya I know that I meant that they're both used the same way, like the lock screen isn't themed from the theme itself. I know that I can't use them on both roms lol. I may have asked a dumb question earlier about contacts but I'm not that much of a noob to try cm9 themes on cm7 lol. And the contacts was just because I don't have experience with cm9 lol this is the first time I ever ever actually use it lol.

I've got kalims CM9 running and I've been searching to no avail for a mod to shrink the navbar, can anyone point me in the right direction?
Nothing fancy, stock look just 32 dpi or so.

Post up your SystemUI.apk and framework-res.apk and I'll take a look at it. (I think I only need framework-res but it doesn't hurt to post both). I'd imagine the program I made would work fine with it.

OK, so I've attempted to make some cool modifications to my Galaxy Nexus. I like Super Mario enough to theme my phone but the ICS blue just didn't go with it. so i went in and changed as much of the #33B5E5 to #00FF00 i could find in the system apps. so i've decided to just upload the apks here. they are based off the AOSP JB found here
I've successfully changed the ones listed below. I haven't been able to successfully build a flashable zip so if you want to, go ahead and post it back here and send me a PM so i can post that zip in the OP.
SystemUI.apk
framework-res.apk
Contacts.apk
Phone.apk
Mms.apk
EmailGoogle.apk
Browser.apk
LatinImeGoogle.apk (keyboard)
SetupWizard.apk
GalleryGoogle.apk
custom battery indicator too
EDIT: Launcher link from dropbox
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10496243/Launcher2-00ff00.apk
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10496243/LatinImeGoogle-00ff00.apk
And one last thing, I did a simple boot animation too. (MyMarioBoot.zip)
Very well done, you sure like Mario!
I think this should be moved to the themes / app section?

i appreciate the feedback. i looked high and low for a "themes" thread under "Galaxy Nexus". I agree it belongs there too. feel free to move it for me moderators. it should work on all Galaxy Nexus regardless of the carrier.
EDIT: so I finally found the themes thread. How do I move it there?

I've updated OP with 3 more APKs and additional screenshots. Also updated Contacts.apk and Phone.apk with more green and less blue.
LatinImeGoogle.apk (keyboard)
SetupWizard.apk
GalleryGoogle.apk
Hey guys.. so using (quite a lot) few different themes and flashables I nearly have a fully inverted CM10 ROM running now. The only thing I'm really missing now to complete my look is a proper holo black (transparent or not I don't mind) drop down status bar. Any of you fellow xda peeps know where I can find a flashable that will just theme the drop down only?
Cheers

I always just pull my SystemUI.apk and replace notification_header_bg.9.png and notification_panel_bg.9.png to make a fully blacked out (not transparent) drop down menu/status bar.

Step by step? I'm not that technical lol
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Copy SystemUI.apk to your computer, and use a program like 7Zip or WinRAR to copy/paste the pngs in this zip (https://www.box.com/s/rzisk7efjj21r4bqunvz) to the res/drawable-xhdpi folder in the apk. Then paste the changed SystemUI.apk back to your system/app folder, set permissions, and reboot. That should give you a status bar that's completely blacked out (see attached screenshot).
As always, take precautions before doing this, just in case something got messed up along the way.
Much appreciated dude I shall no doubt get stuck lol.. god I love this place

i'm a newbie at this. when you say to change it from inside the XML file, do you mean to change the color using MS paint, for example? can you explain how to do this?

If you're a newbe, I suggest hitting up Google and learning about the basics in android decompiling apks and XML format.

but dont they simply have a theme for that calendar? you know which one i'm talking about? its a dark/black theme that came in the galaxy S2.. i'm 99% sure theres a theme for it here that you can just simply install.
To make it as simple as possible look up this thread named JusTunBeans inverted apps. Has all what you need on there and comes as an aroma setup to.

As stated above, you will need to learn some things in order to get this. But give Android Pro Widgets a try. There's a ton of cool calendar widget themes for the paid version.

Edit: I'm actually somewhat awake now, so hows about I actually give a relevant suggestion: Agenda Widget by Sam Henwood
I've never played with a S2, but Gmail Widgets by KATZOFT has some nice dark themes. I really like it.
