Trying out a new Rom and I love it. But my friends are only getting low quality picture messages from me...and this can't fly.
I sent myself a picture in an email and it was high quality just as it shows in my gallery. Grr...
Any remedies?
Check the format of the picture, pngs have better quality of jpegs from what I know.

Thanks but when I mean low I mean low. Like all pixelated.
And it wasn't a problem until I changed Roms. But I HAD to change. And aside from this issue its awesome. It's definitely high quality and 8m in my camera settings. I even tried sending pics I took with the last Rom that I knew were high quality and the same problem occured.
Okay.. hmm... I'm thinking if the problem persists, you could try a fresh install of the Rom. Restart entirely. Sometimes that helps. If that doesn't help, you could talk to the Rom developer himself and discuss it.
thanks

Tried both, still waiting on a second reply from the dev but his first response he had never heard of that problem.
I use my phone to send higher res pictures all the time. This is kinda torquing my banana. Haha

I love the SGS2 but it sucks extremely that you are pretty much forced to take pictures in landscape mode as any pictures taken in portrait mode are send upside down in landscape... This appears to be a Samsung issue with most devices.
Does this bug anyone else but me? Me having a major OCD for this.. makes me miss my old EVO 4G
Any fix to this other than having to try and edit the pictures or taking pictures in landscape.
Here is a link to further describe the issue: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/...ure-always-returns-1-for-exifinterface-tag-or
EDIT: For anyone who wants to attempt and fix this.. Found this old thread form 2010. They used a custom patch/fix to save the correct orientation.

Nothing really just regular setup. I remember some sensor aided setting under location but I'm not sure that affects this issue.

You can't do that when it only rotates the pictures when you try to send them via MMS.

I wish it was that simple but that makes me look more foolish attempting to rotate it then sending it. Only to end up finding out the picture is once again being send wrong lol...

Yeah I noticed this on my samsung captivate and thought oh well It is maybe a software issue. I flashed CM7 and CM9 to my epic touch just now to test out if it was the way software is coded but no... Same results. Must be the way hardware is setup.
have the same issue. my girlfriend and i both have the epic touch, and the mms pics are never sent in a straight orientation. therefore, we just use dropbox.
Is this actually unique to our phone? I'd be surprised if so. See, most phones and cameras handle rotation not by actually taking the photo in portrait, but via EXIF metadata that notes the orientation in which the photo's supposed to be displayed. I'm guessing the MMS software is merely ignoring this EXIF data. The photos display fine in everything else that supports it, but the MMS app doesn't. If that's the case, I would assume this is more common than on merely our phone.
That said, I rarely if ever use MMS anyway. If I can email the photo at a much higher quality, I normally prefer to do so.
If anyone is a dev that happens to read this... In an older samsung model they fixed this annoying bug with a custom package. I'll attach them to the OP in case anyone wants to try and compared the fixes to try making us one.

Neither have I that I know of. I just tried it to make sure I was not just over looking the issue.
Either orientation saves the way I took the pic, and sends that way as well using GOSMS.
I think when I send a portrait picture with the stock messaging app its fine but when you use handcent it turns it sideways.

That's odd, trying emailing yourself the picture. I encounter this issue while using a skype sharing conference with ex co workers. I also have it when trying to send pictures via MMS. I even encounter it when sharing pictures on simple chatting applications. I'm convinced it's a samsung issue that they choose to over look lol =(
Using Vignette camera application... I'm able to successfully share pictures I take in portrait position with it! I thought I'd let others know. =)

Thats exactly what happens to me. It seems Samsung has a weird way of determining orientation and their messaging app is built to send them correctly. However sending thru third party apps, uploading to fb, or even xda app you get them sideways. This is very annoying and stupid and is a Samsung problem on all their phones.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA
Why wouldn't you take a pic in landscape? It has only been since the iPhone era that people have really started taking photos and videos vertically, and personally, I can't stand it.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA
I usually always take pictures in landscape now just because I don't want my friends to have to keep turning their phone to view it. If I take a picture of someones face then I might take a portrait picture. I emailed Handcent about the issue a few times but they never replied back.

Rotate it once the wrong way, then rotate it back, and it will save as the correct orientation when you go to send the MMS.
Annoying, but not the end of the world.
I can't believe this isn't an option. I was trying to take some picture of a textbook in a very quiet environment and that damn shutter sound was disturbing everyone. How could they not have a option for this?!
Serious fail
Root and flash a custom rom, or just the audio tweak in the dev. section.
But I agree Samsung fail on that and the stupid increase ringtone bs.

It isn't a fail, it is to avoid legal issues. In some areas it is illegal to shut off the shutter sound on a phone/camera. AOKP allows you to shut off the sound, but will give a warning that it is not legal in all areas.
yup above is right
And if ur rooted go to system/media/audio/ui and delete anything with the word camera in it. May also be called shutter_sound I think. Problem solved

I wouldn't just delete the sound but replace with a silent .ogg file because the system still searches for the file. If your rooted with cwm look in post #3 of my wicked thread and I have a flashabe zip to silence just the shutter sounds and another to silence all camera and camcorder sounds. Just download the file and flash in recovery and it replaces the files with silent files. That should work on any custom deodexed rom.
Here is a link to the thread and its in post #3.

I nt sure it is applicable to other country roms version..
In Msia Rom version, u could turn off ur shutter sound by putting it into silent mode before u opening the camera.
This is wat i did often when went to quiet environment such as library.
U could try this solution see it works or not.

Hey,
Tried to go back to Stock Rom? Maybe there is a Bug.
Or your camera is defective.. but i don't think so.
Greetz, SoLdieR9312
This might be a silly question but were these pictures taken with your One X wearing a GREEN jelly/tpu case?
This happens on AOSP roms sometimes. I personally faced this problem too. Its one of the reason I hate AOSP roms. Camera is very very bad. Go back to stock and you will find there won't be green light issue.

Change colour balance, see if that helps
Change that settings too tonight after many shoots in a raw photos was better and better that make me think that isn't a hardware problem.
I attach another photo now is yellow...but I think is better, but I want to say that without flash they aren't green or yellow they are normal.

My one x does that too. There was some thread with a 'fix' for it. Search one x general. Post it here once you find it.

Hi all,
I have a problem I hope the great minds here can help me with.
I'm using Slimbean 6.2. I have taken two pictures recently with ordinary camera.
Trouble is, the pics appear grey in the Gallery.
Interestingly, the thumbnails show the image clearly as expected.
I think it may be because the camera wasn't focused, the first pic was of my daughter on a fairground ride and the second was of a train (don't ask).
Is there anything I can do to make them appear correctly?
Examples attached.
You can see the thumbnails clearly, when I tap into the second photo down on the left, I get a grey pic.

I'll try that, but in Dropbox on my laptop they are appearing as grey as well..
I've just flashed build 6 and then 6.9 weekly and camera is working in both. I took a number of shots on both builds and purposefully made sure some were out of focus, no problems at all. Best option is probably just to flash the rom again, try the weekly it seems really stable and the camera is definitely working(as it appears to be in build 6).or You could try to push the camera apk first
Bam Bam Bam
It's odd, it's only happened on a couple of pics, others have come out fine.
Looking at the details, width height and orientation are the same as for other pics (which did work).
Exposure time is 1/2000 and ISO = 100
Size is 43.33kb vs others which are approx 1.5mb
I'll probably never know...
it happened to 2 or 3 month ago but I can't for the life of me remember which rom it was or how i resolved it, hopefully it will be ok now
No fixes available for that ATM!
Change to 6 MP and the camera won't take gray photos... That's the only temp. fix AFAIK!
Delete please

Thanks vin4yak, I'll try that and hope it doesn't happen again
Happened to me a while ago on viperx rom completely out of the blue. I thought it might be camera settings (even though I changed nothing at the time) but i reset them and it continued intermittently. Only for one evening, and it's never happened again. I hadn't changed anything else either, it just started with the grey pic rubbish, and then for no apparent reason it stopped! And never did it again.. I know what I've said doesn't exactly help a lot , just wanted to say that the 6mp fix might not be necessary.. Must be something else that caused it

Hi!
I'm having a great problem with my D855 (16 Gb). When I bought the phone, I had some camera problems, like a lot of colored pixels all over the picture (only rear facing camera). It disappeared suddenly, but now it has returned. I don't know how to solve it. It's a pity, because I can't take any decent picture. How can i solve it?
P.D: I'm running AndroidNow 7.2, but I'm having this problem with any kind of ROM (Stock or AOSP)
Might be noise, caused by high iso settings. That is perfectly normal. Are you shooting in low light or high iso?
It could also be that the camera sensor is suffering from hot pixels, but those don't usually appear in high amounts.
If you'd upload a sample picture it would be easier for us to judge.

It's more clear in low light situations, but it's too obvious in low light situations. I've tried even factory reset and ROM change, but it doesn't work

As you can see, it appears in "stripes", so I think it might be a problem with the camera controller (you're saying it's not depending on the rom). I'd contact LG to get the device replaced.
I tried but it's only happening with the ROM I'm using (AndroidNow)
Would you please help me? I need the camera for work T.T

Earlier you said it was happening even with stock. It's def a camera driver/hardware issue. You'll need to have it looked at
