keyboard - Galaxy S III Themes and Apps

any good keyboard that give number screen buy moving finger right or left without pressing any buttom ( ie world to number in that way) ... most of the keyboard we have to press a buttom to change that layout // this type of keyboard is der?

Many keyboards you can long press the key and its secondary character (number, punctuation etc) will br inserted instead.

The stock Samsung keyboard does this, actually.

G2 qwerty keyboard

Okay this is most likely a noob question but do I really have to hold the alt key the entire time to type numbers or is there another way kind of like a caps lock but for the alt key ? Holding it while typing numbers is a pain in the butt lol . Ty

Hit it two times in a row and it will lock into "alt" then hit it once to get out.
Custom keys D-Pad
Hi!
I would like to know, if it's possible to make the custom keys act like directional keys??
Is there a way to assign "move cursor left" to the 1.custom key, and "right" to the 2. ....and maybe SHIFT+1.custom is "cursor up" , SHIFT+2.custom is "cursor down"???
I think it would be very useful, because i don't need any app to launch one-click, but the directional pad is missing! The touchpad is great, but not the best for me
There is an app to button remap. Either use the search,... or there is a link in the 1st post of the MIUI thread in the Development section

If thumb keyboard isn't your thing then try Better Keyboard. I don't use it but they do have larger keys than the regular keyboards.
thumb key board is working well, i like it way much better!!!! thanks guys!
I highly recommend you check out Swiftkey. Although not optimized for big thumbs, its auto-correct and suggestion engine works extremely well for those times when you missed a key or pressed the wrong letter. Check it!

NumberPad defaulted Keyboard.

I do quite a bit of number entering into spreadsheets and it is quite a pain to have to change to the number pad in my keyboard (Swype) each time I go to a new line (DocsToGo excel sheets) is there .. or can I easy write a Keyboard that defaults to a calculator like number pad so I can just switch keyboards when I am going to do excel sheets and not have to select on every line.
searches in the market have come up empty.
there is an app on the market called numberpad keyboard by a guy named Matt F might be what you are looking for its $3.99
thanks for the suggestion but I would love to have the + = and such if I'm gonna spend money on it.
Have you tried GoKeyboard?

Use the Samsung keypad thats on the phone, it has that kind of keypad

Hacker Keyboard - 5 rows portrait mode will always show numbers at the top row - a little tiny though.
Perfect Keyboard - in compact mode, the 123 button will switch to a large numpad layout, or choose split layout, which always displays (small) numpad in the center area. Available in Lite mode, which is pretty good already.
Those who like the stock Android keyboard should give Perfect Keyboard a try for more customization.
I have been trying most of these ... but my issue is that each work on the assumption that you "normally" want to enter text with letters and so therefor start with that as the keys. My hope is to get it to always default to a Calculator view (optimally in one application and in a layout just like the "123" in swype)
I appreciate the suggestions I have started down the rabbit hole of writing my own keyboard setups... or maybe I can change a setting that allows the default to change with some sort of terminal cmd.
I'm under the impression that GoKeyboard can be set to default either screen. T9, # pad, or letters. If not its just a swipe to the left. ??

[OFFER][MOD]Customizing Physical Keyboard Layout[G2/Desire Z/Vision]

Do you think your physical keyboard could be more efficient if its layout was slightly different?
Do you want special characters to appear just by hoding down FN and hitting a key of your choice??
Are you too lazy or not badass enough to mess around with your physical keyboard layout yourself???
Well, here is the solution:
I will customize your keyboard layout at your wish!
The only things you need are:
A rooted HTC G2/Desire Z/Vision
A root file explorer OR
ADB
The only things I need are:
Your /system/usr/keychars folder
Your /system/usr/keylayouts folder
A list of characters that appear when you hold down FN and hit all the 2nd row's character keys one after another from left to right
Of course your change request
So here is an example of how it might go:
You think: "Damn, I'm a German and bought a G2 from America but I totally hate holding down the 'A' button to write 'Ä' and the 'Z' button should rather write 'Y' because I'm used to it!!!" (can be applied to any other language)
You check if you have the things that you need
You copy the folders that I need to your computer (with the help of root browser or ADB), put them into one keyfiles.zip file and attach it to your post
You write the characters that appear when holding down FN and hitting the 2nd row's keys into your post e.g. !#$%&*()/
You write your change request(s) into your post e.g. When hitting FN+A I want 'ä' to appear and when hitting SHIFT+FN+A I want 'Ä' to appear
'!' can be moved to SHIFT+.
Furthermore I wish that Z could write 'Y' and vice versa
You let me do some magic (hex-editing)
I attach the file(s) that has(have) to be replaced
You (make a NANDROID backup and) put the files into their respective place
You tell me if it works
P.S.:
As I wasn't able to test this on many devices it might happen that I am not able to fulfill all of your wishes. If that happens, please don't get angry. I'm sure that we can find another solution for you. If questions come up along the way don't hesitate asking.
DISCLAIMER:
Though it is quite unlikely that anything goes wrong I am not responsible for any kind of damage that could happen to you, your phone, your family, your nation and anything else that you think is this modification's fault. You decide to ask me for a favor and you take the risk of it. I am completely willing to help you if there are any problems but don't blame me for them.

I see what you want but I fear that this does not have much to do with the keyboard's mapping but more with the dictionary's configuration. You should tell me if I'm wrong.
I could just make your keyboard write characters with key combinations like making FN+SHIFT+E write é.
I'm sorry that I can't give you exactly what you need
Are you willing to do this for me on my Motorola Droid Pro+?
At the moment, when you hold down a key rather than showing the character/number assigned to that letter it shows foreign accented characters... I don't type in any language other than english so I don't really need this. The alt key is in a really awkward place, it really slows me down!
Thanks
You can make the number or so appear when holding fn and not only pressing it before?

So you want me to
alter the caracters/numbers that appear when holding a key? I don't think that I'm the right person to do this as I assume it to be something very software related.

I've probably misread... Now I have to press fn release it and press key. Are you able to mod it so that fn effect is active only when it's still pressed
example:
nowress fn release fn press a get the special character
wantress fn release fn press a get a, press fn press a get the special character release fn
Is possible to personalise keyboard even with miui? Because I can't use fn+ z = £ and fn+ x = € so if u can make them works

When I started this thread I was unable to imagine what kinds of modification people want to apply to their keyboards.
In Ice Cream Sandwich the keychar files allow you to vary the key's behaviour depending on whether the shift key is pressed or a capslock is active. But I didn't see anything like fn-lock there. So I think it's not possible to let the keyboard ignore fn-lock. (Excuse me if there is an expression for that - I don't know it if there is any so I just call it "fn-lock".)

I've never had a look at MIUI's keychars/-layout files but it's worth a try.
Hi,
Previous year I bought a Desire Z in Belgium (so with a Belgian AZERTY keyboard).
Previous month I replaced the motherboard.
Now the whole phone is in QWERTY. SO I remapped the keychars and keylayout files to make it AZERTY again.
It is well done, but some things I'm missing:
- Some characters who aren't in the right way.
- All the rest is allright (qwerty is now azerty again).
I have this keyboard (it is exactly the same):
http://www.android-pour-les-nuls.fr.../HTC_Desire_Z/HTC-Desire-Z-dessus-clavier.jpg
In attachement you find the 2 keyboard files.
For example:
The key in the left corner of the keyboard doesn't function pretty good (@ and ! as you see on the picture).
The key with the € symbol, doens't work.
What I am doing wrong?
For the rest, it's pretty good modified I think
Do you have any solution?
Thx very much!

[Q] keyboard no longer lets you long press for special characters?

I love that this keyboard has built in emoji's, but hate that you can't long press for special characters and have to hit the symbol button...is there any keyboard out there that has both?

Same...just switched from note 2....is there way to avoid having to select the special character and having it auto add.....an exclamation point for example (long press "D" character)
