Yes you can, but if you get from Play Market, easy CWM installer (or something) then you need a recharge fix also. Look in the forum for the thread, otherwise the phone keeps re-booting when you charge the battery.

It's called the Xperia CWM Auto-Installer. LOL!
And you get the bootloops if you decide to charge the phone while it's switched off. (I don't experience it because my phone is on all the time. )
Swyped from my SE Xperia arc (LT15i) using Tapatalk 2

Here is the workaround for the offline charging problem:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1437840&page=27
You would need Root Explorer though to change the permission.
Tried it myself and CWM Recovery is working flawlessly and the Arc is able to charge offline.

or just unlock your bootloader for more experience

Rooting Arc S

i am planning on getting rid of my W8 & buying a Arc S....but i am a bit stumped by a couple of things. i like modding my phones....my W8 was pretty modded out...i didnt unlock the bootloader & ran stock kernel but i could still flash custom roms. can i still do that with the arc s? i mean do i have to unlock bootloader in order to install any custom roms?? & are the steps to rooting an arc the same as rooting an arc s?? any help would be appreciated....
arc S can be rooted with zergrush method very easy...
on locked booltoader so far can instal only 2 custom rom based on stock firmware...
also theme, mods can be instaled with CWM on locked BL..
Which two roms are you talking about? Can I flash even with cwm recovery 5.0.2.7 nAa r2? (the one with thd auto_installer in themes and apps category) thanks for you attention!

Hi guys
i wanna make a simple question and i hope i can get the reply i want
basically i was planning to ask if there is an easy way to root my phone and i had found it on this section so i cover up my 1st question
the second think i want to ask is that since i am planning to root my phone and start playing around with roms and apps i would like to ask before i go ahead and root the phone how can i backup the original firmware of the phone so if in case i screw it up at list i will be able to go back to the original state by flashing the original image of the phone. the reason i am asking that is because i had destroy my new Atrix 2 and till now i haven't manage to get the Asia Pacific version so i was forced to install an ATT version and sale the phone half price instead keeping it and just looking at it, so this time i want to follow the safe side
the details of the phone is as follow and i just bought it today morning
Model: LT18i
Version:2.3.4
kernel: 2.6.32.9
Build: 4.0.2.A.0.62
i will deeply appreciate any response and advise from you guys

Don't think there's rooting kit for your build yet..
if you happen to root it, download SE Extreme Tweak Installer.. this will install CWM Recovery where you can backup and restore your firmware before bootup.
Then you can start messing around.

Can you tell me from where i can download that because i had found this which is mentioning that is working for my version http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1320350
please also explain if i can use the back up to reflash my phone in its original state at any time i wish and how through the phone or by any third party application like Odin i.e. and where can i locate the back up file inside the phone or SD memory
i am owner of S2 and i am doing pretty well but with Arc s i am just noob
yea...i did the same too....rooted it installed CWM & backed up my rom & tried to flash a custom rom that didnt require bootloader unlocking or custom kernel.....i managed to do sumthng do the phone...it got stuck at the se logo...it wudnt even go to CWM....later the guys here advised me to use flashtool to reflash a stock firmware...& i did & with my fingers crossed...did so & got my arc s back alive.....after this episode...i lost the nerve to flash custom roms in my arc s......& i have been flashing custom roms in my w8 & this never happened.....this shows that the arc s development area is still not ironclad yet
btw...i do have a question.....i am a bit confused by the system info from antutu benchmark....the original stated RAM for the arc s is 512MB. but in antutu benchmark shows total RAM as 335MB.....i dont get it.....can anyone else confirm this??

Install Miui on xperia arc Lt15i locked bootloader

Hey guys,
So i have been rounding the forum for weeks and i still cant manage to install MIUI on my xperia the thing is its has lockedbootloader and i have no ideia how to root it and CWM on it.
I have found some threads but most of them with broken english and i just dont get it.
I want to change my rom badly since i find xperia stock rom horrid.
Big hug
Here are the steps to rooting your phone and installing CWM
1. Download Flashtool and flash a rootable arc or arc s rom (if you're using arc s, here's one). You can usethis tutorial to help
2. Download and extract this
3. Put your phone on debugging mode and connect it to your computer
4. Run the 'runme.bat' from the extracted folder
5. Download x-Parts from google play and it'll install CWM on your phone.
Done! :highfive:
Thanks alot! i still cant find a rootable arc rom i'm using the normal one arc LT15-i
Okays that's fine. Flash a normal arc Lt15i rom, and then flash this, and then root it, and then flash this
You should be fine now
I guess thats no problem flashing with lt18i kernel?
(sorry for my ignorance noob here)
Ok so now the thing is i encountered a lt15i root ready rom i began flashing and it gets stuck at 14%

full wipe
U didnt tell us what exactly u did Probably u need full wipe. When u are installing new rom, especially based on diffrent version of android that u have already, u should make complete wipe. But if ur settings r important, to u try change kernel (if u have unlocked bootloader) for one of supported by ur ROM, then flash phone again and look what will happen In my opinion installing ROMs with blocked bootloader is quite hard, cos u r dependent of ur kernel version. U wont install ROM, which is not suporrted by kernel, and if smth go bad, u must use computer to turn it back. Which unlocked bootloader u can simply backup and restore ur phone

You now have to use the Flashtool to re-flash your device to its original firmware, you will also lose root permission.read the 'sticky' to explain how.still stuck after that watch one of the many YouTube videos showing how.

Well all you can do is start over again.Flash stock fw/rom and root it with NEW one click root just google for it, it works fine with. 62 and latest ics stock rom,or if you have bootloader unlocked you can flash custom kernel that has cwm and root in it.

can't start up Sony Xperia S

Hey guys,
I can't start up my Sony Xperia S. It just stucks at the SONY logo screen.
I've downloaded Xperia Companion and tried Software Repair, but it says cannot be repaired as the Bootloader is unlocked. Now I'm trying to lock the bootloader but I don't know how.
I'd like to reset my phone to its original form, i.e. bootloader locked and unrooted. Any ideas?
Btw, I'm using a Mac.
Any help/advice is much appreciated. Thanks!

I think I was trying to flash custom ROM.
But it didn't work and my phone just wouldn't start up, so I bought a new phone 6 months ago and put this aside.
Now I'd like to start up this phone and try to access my pictures etc.

OK download stock ftf (search Google for stock jelly bean for Xperia s). Then flash it by flashtool software. There is plenty of guide for how to flash official jellybean on Xperia s by flash tool.

Thanks for the advice!
I followed the instructions here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2422053
Flash the official jellybean.
It has some progress but I still cannot start up my phone.
When I start it up, the Sony logo appears, followed by the Xperia logo and the colourful light stream. Then it repeats itself, SONY, Xperia, light stream........ etc.
It's better than just the SONY logo I had before.
What should I do next?
Give it some more time on that state.. It should boot OK.. If not then flash again.

I flash it again, and still it can't start up.
I gave it 30 minutes, and it's still in the loop, Sony - Xperia - lights.
what should I do?
I've also tried to repair using the Xperia Companion but it says, bootloader is unlocked, so NO.
how to relock the bootloader then?
It's really strange why this happend to you... Are you flashing the correct ftf?try a custom rom ad see what's happening
i believe that the latest flash tool doesnt work with xperia s anymore so look for an older version
Use emma..
