I upgraded from the latest ClockworkMod Touch to 4EXT Recovery, backed up my system and re-partitioned the SD Card with a sd-ext of 2GB, sd-ext2 of 768MB and a SWAP of 256MB
However when I boot into the phone and check free-m I only see the 96MB data swap in the buffer area, and not the 96 + 256 combined.
Any particular reason for this? I'm using the ROM in the signature.
N/M I fixed it by reformatting the card in recovery and skipping sd-ext2, I guess the rom doesn't support more than one sd-ext partitions as such affects it finding the swap partition automatically.

I'm trying to figure out what format / partitions my sdhc card(s) should be in.
Does the stock firmware require specific partitioning? 1 FAT32 seems
like it would have huge waste due to the FAT clustering system. Would one
say 2gb FAT32 partition for the firmware to use + some sort of ext2/3/4
or other Linux type filesystem for the rest to better use the space work?
Would a linux swap partitition help / be used at all? I have a 2gb (already
formated as a single fat32 filesystem), a 16gb class 2 and a 32gb class 2
to work with.
I figured on partitioning / formatting the large cards with gparted on a
card reader device, then putting the card in the phone.
How does the incredible see the internal user flash space, as a 'second' SD type device?
Do I understand correctly, the system flash is logically treated as a number of filesystems
so they can be 'fixed' / 'updated' seperately?
Like the boot partition, kernal partition, recovery partition, system / root partition etc.
I'm trying to understand how the system a works vs a regular
unix / linux / bsd OS would. Like booting into recovery is kinda like booting into single user
to fix the boot or root partition.
Does nandroid backup the user (internal) flash or just the various
system flash partitions?
Thanks
Mine is just formatted fat32.

I believe the stock firmware won't be able to see the card if you reformat it in anything besides fat32, but this is just speculation.
You bring up a good question though. ext2 contains less read/write overhead than FAT32, and thus it would seem better to store certain read/write intensive files (i.e. music) on an ext2 partition rather than FAT32.
You could always root, install a stock-like kernel (Skyraider, Virtuous, etc.) and play around with fstab to see if you can get something usable.
I formatted the microSDHC card with Amon-Ra recovery to
512mb ext3 / 64mb swap. I reapplied CWM recovery and rebooted normal.
Used rom manager to do a nandriod backup and it did see the sd-ext partition.
what do I do to tell Android to setup and use swap partition, and should it help?
Hi all.
There are a lot of information around there related to the partitionning of the SD Card ... But I'm still a bit confused regarding the following point :
When creating an ext partition aiming at "enlarging" internal data partition, is it better to put this ext partition as first partition on the SD card, and the fat32 partition as second, or vice versa ?
As far as I know, using AmonRA recovery, I'll get no choice : the ext partition will be first.
But, if I use GpartED, I may do whatever I want ...
Thank you for your support.
Simple way
I personally would recommend using clockwork mod rather than amon ra. After you root, you simply install ROM manager and use it to create a max partition of 512 MB. Its automatic. No frills, no troubles.
After some time, if you still find the 512 MB partition to be insufficient, then you can think of using GParted to increase your partition. Use google to search how to use gparted. Anyway, the order is: Format FAT partition, then create EXT partition.
Initially i used ROM manager to create a 512 MB partition. Only recently did i increase the partition to 1GB using gparted. Learn more about using gparted before using it.
I know rom manager will only allow up to 512 mg so the best thing is use CWR and partition sdcard/ advanced. Then you can choose up to 4g

I'd actually recommend the opposite - I much prefer AmonRA over CWM but tbh I'd actually say use a GPartEd Live CD and do it there instead
I would like to increase internal memory to 1gb .......I would like to use simple2ex or data2sd...I need full detail about SD partion..I have already flashed cm7..please help

You'd have to have a [custom] hboot that had partition info set up like you wanted [to change system partition information]. Not an easy task. Doubtful it would ever come to fruition. Besides our devices have 512 MB ROM, 512 MB RAM (418 MB user-available). So allocating that all to system would be unwise. Now SD card partitioning... our device supports up to 32 gigs Those two you mentioned or Darktremor's Apps2sd are great tools for moving your apps or even dalvic vm to your sd card. You can partition your sd as you wish with the unofficial cwm recovery (under advanced options). I will try to port another recovery [4ext] in the future which is great for sd partitioning (data aligns everything; supports ext4). CWM is not too shabby though; give it a whirl. Hope that helps.

I've tried to make sd-ext with Rom Manager -> Make partitions on SD. I've shoose 512Mb (of 16Gb miscroSD) and 32Mb swap file. But still have 178Mb internal memmory.
What is wrong?
I used Minitool Partition Wizard (free) to split my SD 16Gb on Fat32 & ext4 512Mb. Works Fine! Link2SD identify external partirion.
cool
congrats. Just a suggestion... change your OP from [Q] to [Answered] even though you answered your own question. May help someone else.

data2sd not installing for me after i install i get a boot loop..
you need Apps2sd or Data2sd not both
The rom has Apps2sd... You want Data2sd. You will have to remove apps2sd support, then add data2sd support. Can't have both.

I have a 32GB card. Was using CM7 with scripts mounted for 280 MB internal memory. Wanted to change ROM so.
1. Reflashed CWM (didn't flash the boot.zip before reflashing CWM)
2. Wiped everything
3. Installed another ROM (3 ROM's actually )
Now I just can't locate the ext3 and swap partition on any software including Paragon or Gparted. It's like the partition just got lost. Any help will be appreciated.
Have you partitions with unallocated space or is the sd card so big like it be? For example, that the SD-Card has 32 GB in gparted or paragorn?
