What rom to get - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

what I am looking for is a rom that will make my connection speed faster my download speed sucks I am also looking for a rom that will boat my signal when using my hotspot. I am running swiperrats 4.0.4 miui rom I like it but its still not fast enough any suggestions would be helpful thank you guys.. if this is in the wrong section I'm sorry and point me in the right direction..

My favorite Rom was cm7 when I had my evo. Seemed to make sprints network suck a little less. Different roms won't make much of a difference since sprints poor network is to blame for the awful speeds

Well if you're on ICS, they have bugs on the evo [obviously]. if you want a real fast rom with great signal, ect, you'd probably need to go back to gingerbread, in which case, use CM7. For ICS, I preferred lithium's build of MIUI and jmztaylor's CM9 rom.

If you like sense like myself, The best for performance and battery life hands down is Nitrous 1.55,,,IMHO And I dont think there will be an arguement there from anyone who has ran it. ,,,Later,,,

I agree if you like sense roms try out nitrous 1.55. I have been using Nitrous since the early releases, and it just keeps getting better. I haven't had any fc's in a long time, and it doesn't freeze up like a lot of other sense roms.

I highly recommend Vaelpak GB AOSP. Battery life is fantastic. I keep trying others, but restore to Vaelpak before I turn in. Everyone has their own preferences though. Good luck. No matter what rom I flash, I always use GoLauncher. Very customizable

Myn's Rom vs Stock

Hey guys. I was hoping some of you ROM flashing freaks can help me out here. After a month or so of having full root I finally decided to d/l Rom Manager (what an awesome app...major kudos to the dev!) and the first thing I did was try out the famous CM6 rom.
First off let me admit to the fact that I don't think I gave it a fair shot...mb I was scared by the lack of Sense that I have grown so used to, but after a very short while I reverted to my backup of the stock rom. Besides the lack of familiarity with a non-Sense ROM I was also turned off by the lack of 4G and the small things that people on the CM6 thread were complaining about such as notifications for text and emails not showing up on the status bar. I also saw a handful of people complaining about excessive battery drain. Anyway, I stray from my point. I'm sure CM6 is an awesome ROM, I mean thousands of people swear by it, so there must be something to it...just right now I need some Sense.
On that note it seems to me that the most popular Sense rom is Myn's. Please correct me if I'm wrong on this. What I really don't understand is this: What makes Myn's ROM or any of the other Sense rom better than stock? I would really like to hear from MYN users (and other sense rom users) and tell me why you prefer your ROM over stock.
Thanks in advance for any useful feedback!
I use Myn's ROM and CM6.1 (the latter right now).
The most cited thing about Myn's ROM that people like is the theming. Myn is also really on it with the updates, and he includes new features with every release.
Just nandroid and flash it. If you like Sense, you can't go wrong. Also, definitely give CM6 another go sometime in the future. It's great.

Hey Sock, thanks for the reply. Yeah, I think I def didn't give a CM6 a fair try. I think I just got scared off by the unfamiliar territory. One thing I did notice when I had it running was that my reception wasn't very good. I only had 2 bars in an area that I usually have full or close to full bars. Oddly though, it was working fine and was d/l content from the market at around the same speed as when I was on stock.
CM6 uses a different code for signal reception than sense roms (less bars). Even though it appears different, there are no differences in data speed. Those bars u see are for data strength btw

Yeah, that's something to get used to with AOSP. I like Sense and CM pretty similarly, so I nandroid back and forth pretty often.

Ive been using myns roms for quite a while now, all 3 of his warm 2.2 releases. I highly suggest you give it a try. The theme is silky smooth, all sense widgets work, myn has put his magic touch into it so it runs smoother and snappier than stock, he is ON TOP of updating his Roms, and always adds new features and little touches to it. Plus there are all sorts of options for customizing to your liking. I also get much better battery life than stock. Check it out good sir.

While I don't run Myn's (running MIUI), the reason I started flashing custom ROMs was to get rid of the Sprint bloat that the stock ROM had. After each restart I would see a Nascar app and a whole lot of other **** running that I couldn't care less about. Also now I can use setcpu to underclock my phone at times (screen off and etc) to help save my battery as well. Seeing much longer battery life now.
I have used Myn's, CM, MIUI, Calks, Fresh, DC, etc. Right now I am back on the newest stock release. I was kind of missing the stock appearance and I found that a couple tweaks I like wouldn't work on the other roms. Plus, I can get rid of all excess and unwanted apps using titanium or root explorer. Finally, my battery life is phenomenal so I think I'll stick with stock for a while. However, of the custom sense roms, I think the ones I have tried were all great. DC is very slow to update while myn is very fast and regular with his. Myn is great if you want a themed rom, if not I say try calk or fresh, Ava's rom is pretty sweet too. I guess what it comes down to is do a nandroid backup and start flashing away til you find one you like.

in my opinion myn's rom is very fast runs great and has the evo hotspot so you dont have to shell out an extra 30 a month it has 4g and is very stable. plus you get huge battery savings plus all other shell options and dev stuff that i kinda understand but dont want to sound stupid trying to explain.. i really cant wait for the next myn rom to come out it looks awesome and works even better, but i got my stock battery with heavy use from about 4 hours to almost 10 hours, but its all in personal choice. hope my input helped a little..
try su file manager & terminal from the market and if you dont have busybox get it from market and you can remove any file you want you just have to mount as read-write

JSYK, Calk made a flashable zip to enable the sprint hotspot on any sense rom.

[Q] Need a good rom for both 3g & 4g tethering w/ good battery life?

I am on CM 7.1RC1 and I am having Wireless Tether problems and no 4G speeds on built in tethering, but 3g works on built in.
Just got a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and I want to frequently tether it to my Evo and I need reliability from the Evo tethering.
Before RC1 wireless tether was working ok and 4g was working on both WT and built in tether, now it isnt. I can try and go back to the stable CM but then I would be going backwords in ROM versions.
So which rom, sense is fine with me, would give me the best tethering experience (both 3g & 4g) and good battery life (I know 4g kills battery quickly)?
Thanks
I would like to know as well. I am an epic user, but I rooted and put a cm7 on my friend's wife's evo a couple months ago. I guess she has been having a lot of issues lately, and wants me to either put it back to stock, which she wasn't too happy with, or flash something else that is more stable. I'm never in the evo forums, so I don't know what's what over here. I thought cm was supposed to be the best, but I also don't know how she uses her phone, or what has been done that made it start acting up.

really the best way to know for sure is to just flash away. i have tried most of thenew roms that have come out. all pretty much very good. i guess if you have to try one out i would recommend mikg2.41. it is a great sense 2.1+3.0 rom. check it out. also i had great experience with synergy r2 as well.

Mikg or synergy was going to be one of the ones I tried (or both) but I have heard battery life is pretty bad on them because of the newer sense. Don't get me wrong, I want newer sense since 1.0 is old and ugly so I think I can deal with worse battery life.
Was just hoping someone would have some insight when it came to tethering and one of these new roms.
Thanks

ROM recommendations?

So I just got my EVO back from asurion, sucks my last one broke, but now its back and I got it rooted once again, found out they added Android 2.3.3 onto it and I was a bit excited, but anyways. I've been wanting to choose a Rom, but I'm not sure what I'm going to be looking for, ive been forum running for a week and its still a bit cloudy, Im wanting a Rom that looks closely like Sense, with the same layout, but I want customization and speed. Anyone have any ideas where I can look? It'd be very helpful and id appreciate it greatly.

try out mikg 2.56
+1
Mikg 2.55 is my daily driver its a very stable rom and runs great on my phone.

try CM, it's not sense based but it's the best Rom out in my opinion! give it a spin!
From what you asked for try swagged out sense. CM7 is meh, I ran MikG for a couple months to, just recently switching. It's fun, but has the same occasional twitches and bad battery life of any sense 2.1/3.0 rom.
I've used Sinister, CM7, Salvage Mod, Baked Snack, Fresh, Warm, and Savaged Zen. I always seem to find my way back to CM7. It just seems to have what I am looking for. It has bugs and certain things about it that I have seen other ROMs do better. But the overall experience I have with CM7 is better than what I've had with any of the others.
In the end you are the only one that can determine which ROM is best for you. The only way to answer your question is to do what I did....get flash happy with a bunch of different ROMs until you find some that really catch your eye. Test drive each for at least a week so that you have time to get down into some of the detailed features. If through all of those flashes you find yourself consistently gravitating toward one specific ROM then go ahead and flash that one and enjoy it.
Team nocturnals stock Rom its 4.53 based and has some really nice tweeks runs butter smooth with no problems I have been running it for days with no problems in fact it gets better everyday and add billbowers theme eclipse and no other ROM can touch it imo

[Q] Going back to Gingerbread.

I'm finding that the ICS roms have just a tad more quirks/bugs than I'd be able to deal with on a daily (being that the phone is primarily my business line too, lulz!)
I'd like to know what your guys thoughts are on the most active/stable GB roms are for the Vision/G2/Desire Z.
I loved Bulletproof MIUI but it's no longer being actively maintained. Are there any well maintained MIUI roms, or are should I go straight to ILWT?
I am staying away from roms like mexDroidMod because being that I'm in the design/UI business- I could honestly say no matter how well that rom performs, it is an eyesore to look at (nothing personal if you like the way it looks). Keeping that in mind, I'd rather not install that rom and play with theming. Just looking for a good out of the box well featured/stable/snappy GB rom.
Everyone has their own prefrense, mine is also gingerbread for now. I've used 15 to 20 diffrent roms and difrrent versions of a few. The one I keep going back to is elitemod, it hasn't been updated for a few months now but is still my favorite rom. Used 3 or so versions of ilwt and I do like the new aroma installer he uses but I still find I like elitemdod better. If you don't want to try many this is what I recommend but only tial will tell you your preference

I would say ILWT or CM7 for performance and stability. But if you want something that looks a little bit better, you should try to find a good Sense 2 ROM (sorry, i've tried a lot of ROM but none with Sense 2 ).
Latest cyanogen nightly or release candidate.

Anything CyanogenMod based.
Try CM7.2 RC1, it is absolutely amazing once you match .so files with the latest radio, doing that makes the battery life on it be quite ridiculously good. It is super fast and, it gives you heaps of tweaks to choose from. I couldn't recommend any other AOSP ROM right now. Anything CM7 will serve you well . The only issue i had with CM7.2 RC1 was that every now and then, there would be this lag that would start up, which would make the phone feel like it was running at 245mhz. There was an easy way to fix that though, switching the overclocking governor to something else and then back to interactive would fix that lag immediately. Other than that, CM7 is very stable where it is now.
Otherwise, try going with Virtuous Sense 2.0. I was using AOSP ROMs for months, but now that i tried Virtuous Sense 2.0 again, i'm very happy with its speed and stability and the features of Sense 2.1. In addition to that, it is absolutely, 100% stable, with no glitches at all.
Oh and since you're looking for a well maintained MIUI ROM, look at Strawmetal.MI. People seem to love his ROMs and they seem to work very well.
I installed elitemode a few days ago and haven't switched back. This rom is awesome and I'm geting great battery life under heavy use... 10+ hrs. Never happend before. Love it..

[Q] Your favorite daily ROM?

hi evo owners, my girlfriend has an evo 4g and she is always complaining about how slow it is and how fast her battery drains. (she's a pretty heavy user)
so i come to you guys for help..
which ROMs are you running that are showing the best battery life i can get out this thing and are they stable for day to day use. (being as its not my phone and she knows nothing about rooting. i wont be able to follow updates as ofter as i do on my GSII)
Im just looking for a great stable build with the best battery battery life.
any and all input is really appreciated, thanks
I am using MokeeOS, right now. pretty much everything is working and getting good battery life. Based on gingerbread. see the forum below...

Swagged out stock is a clean fast Sense 1.0 rom that i've been using for months. There's a lot you can customize so you can get some better battery life. In general, the stock battery is what it is.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1258932
I like any of the sense 1.0 roms for quickness, battery and responsiveness. Classic rom, Digital Karma, Nitrous. U use Set CPU and make a profile for screen off. Use power save governor if kernel allows so while locked it will only run at lowest speed. This is helpful on any from though. Hope this helps.
I feel more like I do now then I did then.
I've been jumping back in and forth with JMZ's CM9 ROM and Cyanogenmod's CM7. I never had a Sense phone, so this was my first. After being with the OG Samsung Moment for about 3 years, until the developers fled, I was so used the classic UI. When I was introduced to Sense, I never stuck on to me. Luckily, I barely got this phone this year, meaning most CM7 ROMs were stable with ICS at hand. If you a Sense guy, I would recommend the Classic ROM or the Nitrous ROM. Nitrous gives more of the original Sense experience, but the Classic ROM gives really impressive battery life. It has a lot of available tweaks to play with. My ONLY problem with the ROM is the boot sound LMAO. I never thought i could hear my phone be that loud.
I, too, am running jmz unofficial cm9, & it's great for me but maybe not for her. The issue with battery life, however, is not the ROM; it's more likely the screen & radios that are killing it. My solution has been two-part: using Juice Defender to customize data activity, & larger aftermarket batteries (ChiChiTec - Amazon).
ive been using most of decks roms lately, but if i had to choose a reliable rom it would be synergy. its a little outdated but everything works.
Digitalkarma v7 fast smooth and everything works
