So I bricked it....

I was overwriting CWM Recovery with a different version so that I could install CM10 and when it restarted the screen went black. Now it won't turn on no matter what. I've tried holding VolUp-Home-Power, VolDown-Home-Power, Home-Power, just Power, just home, just VolUp, just VolDown, and nothing. I've tried plugging it into the wall, nothing. As if there were no battery in it at all.
So obviously I made a mistake somewhere. It happens. Not blaming anybody. Does anyone have any other suggesstions for me to try before I send it away for repairs?

Many thanks for the response and posting a helpful thread.
The farthest I've got is unplugging the battery, plugging in the USB and getting a Red Led turned on. It wouldn't do that with the battery inside.
I've tried using Odin and the Tookit from that thread but neither will detect the phone. Also, Windows won't detect the phone even with Samsung's drivers.
Thanks for trying though, I really appreciate it. I'm assuming it's hard bricked and no other way to fix it than to send it off to Samsung.
If warrenty is a possibility I say don't waste any time. Don't tell them what you were doing obviously...they can't verify that your rooted anyways in its current state. If warrenty or insurance isn't a option then one service that's available is something called jtag repair. I hard bricked my Telus S3 due to my inability to read stickies (lesson learned!!! lol) And had to send it for jtag repair. Phone is fixed and as good as new now! didn't cost me $200 for a insurance replacment either... anyways.. I don't want to sound like I am a spokesperson for the company... if your warrenty/insurance doesn't cover it pm me and I can try help you further.

Nicole: I am sorry, in this case, I request you either check with the place of purchase or visit any nearest carrier store to fix the issue as your device need to be examined by technical experts.
Desai: I didnt buy it from att that why i contacted samsung
Nicole: I understand your concern and let me explain.
Nicole: As you have bought second hand device, there might be any hardware issue on the device. So, it should be examined by technical experts to fix the issue.
Nicole: At Live chat, we only troubleshoot the technical issues of the devices.
Desai: I tried to look up a technical device centre but there no service place of samsung here and att is not gonna check it as i havent bought the phone from them
Desai: if there is any centre of samsung that i cant go to please advise on that
Nicole: May I have the MEID/IMEI number of the device to check the warranty details of your device?
Desai: yeah sure
Desai:<>c7fbb8b2ef0b80c2cac9cecac0cdcdc9ccc0c5<>/font>
Nicole: Thank you.
Nicole: Would you mind If I take 3 minutes while I gather the required information on your request?
Desai: no problem
Desai: take ur time
Nicole: Thank you.
Nicole: Thank you for holding.
Desai: no problem
Nicole: I see that your device is under warranty
Nicole: Have you registered your device on our Samsung website?
Desai: nope coz this is my third samsung device and i just got it today so havent done that
Desai: i had skyrocket and galaxy note
Desai: before this one
Nicole: Thank you for the information.
Desai: So how may i suppose to claim the warranty
Nicole: As we have done with all the Troubleshooting steps, still the issue persists,it seems to be an issue with the device, and as the device is under warranty. In this case, I will raise a service ticket to service/repair the device to fix the issue.
Desai: that will be great
Desai: where am i suppose to go for that
Desai: or what will be the procedure
Nicole: I will set up a service ticket for you.
Nicole: It takes 2 business days for Shipping in, 5-7 business days for repairing/servicing and 2 business days for shipping out the device.
Nicole: Is that okay with you?
Desai: so it will be like 10 days
Desai: is it possible to do it more quick
Desai: as right of now i m without a cell phone
Desai: coz i just got new sim for this phone which is not gonna work on any of my spare devices
Nicole: I am sorry, it will take nearly 10 days.
Nicole: I understand but it takes nearly 10 days and it will be taken care by our servicing team and we do not have any information about it.
Desai: oh ok is there any centre that i can go personally if that can speed up the process
Nicole: You can visit any nearest ATT store to service/repair the device as the device is under warranty.
Desai: oh ok but if they say that device is not purchased from them than what m i suppose to do ?
Nicole: They will surely help you.
Nicole: I am sorry, as this is ATT device, they will surely help you in fixing the issue.
Nicole: In case, if they do not assist you, I request you get back to us for further assistance.
Nicole: You can get back to us at any point of time. We are available 24/7 to assist you. We will be glad to help you further.
Desai: oh ok i will try to do that . can u provide me with any case no so next time if i contact u guys than i dont have to do all the process again , just in case if att doesnt respect the warranty
Nicole: I request you get back to us for further assistance with this chat ID .
Desai: oh ok thanks
Desai: that will be good
Nicole: You're welcome. Is there anything else I can assist you with?
Desai: No that will be it.
Desai: Thanks a lot
Nicole: It was a pleasure assisting you. Thank you for contacting Samsung Technical Support. If you have a minute, please click on the blue “X close” button to receive a transcript of your chat and fill out a brief survey to help us serve you better. Have a wonderful day!

This was chat with samsung agent...Part of it . before agent just tried to get phone nd reset and even method was wrong lol ..but just hang in there u will get warranty.
Thanks to both of you guys. Fallenkirmit, I'll look into JTAG if I get turned down by Samsung.
Telus told me to bring it to one of their stores and that they'd ship it to Samsung for repair and give me a loaner phone in the meantime.
What are the chances of Samsung turning me down do you guys think?
If you got it directly from a telus store your covered no worries they cover everything for you. Jtag is a great service.. but warrenties are better lol

I ordered it from Telus over the phone when I entered my contract. That's the same as going to their store and buying it right?
I have to say this was completely my fault, I was getting impatient and thus careless. But now I've learnt an important lesson. I was trying to install CM10 but you have to use a certain version of CWM (d2att?). But I already had an LTE version of CWM that I used to install Blue Berry. So when I tried to do an overwrite with Android Terminal something went wrong when I rebooted from it. I couldn't find my device in Rom Manager Premium and that's what lead to this. Luckily I made a back up of everything. Can't wait to root it and rom it again!
But now my main worry is turnaround time.

Yeah thats the same as buying it at a storefront. Did you purchase the phone within the last 30 days by any chance? Cause with Telus if something happens to your phone within the first 30 days they will just swap out for a new handset on the spot at one of their store fronts. I dont know what your turn around will be I have been seeing people having approximitly a 10 day turn around from day they send it in to when they get it back... your mileage may vary though lol

Unfortunately (or fortunately lol?) I've had the phone for almost 90 days. Guess I'll have to wait. 10 days isn't a big deal I suppose. As long as it's not a month or something :silly:

Check out mobiletechvideos.com for Josh's JTAG brick repair services. You can pay a little extra to have it shipped faster too. That way you aren't out a phone for too long. Its only $60 for just the repair.

JTAG does support hard bricks. You can try sending to Samsung but with no warranty you will most likely be charged.
How did you hard brick it? are you sure its 100% hard bricked? have you tried doing a battery pull and boot into download mode?

ok so after a little scrolling through the thread i found that if you take the battery out the phone and plug it in the computer the red led on the phone comes on still no boot or recovery/download mode just seeing if that helps at all
Your completely bricked. U flashed bootloaders for a different device. A jig will not help. Do a search for mobiletechvideos and jtag. Sucks but it's your only solution. Unless u send it back to Samsung
Jtag is becoming more popular, on Craigslist I found a few people locally offering the service..
Might want to check to see if you have anybody locally that can do it.

[Q] Finding equivalent GT-I9300 resistor on the SPH-L710 (Sprint)

Hi XDA,
I recently hard bricked my SPH-L710 (Sprint version of the Samsung Galaxy S3). I was going to attempt the procedure here: (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2023069) Then I quickly realized after tearing down my SPH-L710 that we have a different system board and processor (thanks sprint!). I was wondering if anyone had a shot in the dark as to whether or not there's an equivalent resistor you can trip on the SPH-L710 that will cause the device to boot from SD?
I appreciate any help. Here are some pictures of the SPH-L710 System board: http://imgur.com/a/jOJ5x#0
I've also attached the Samsung PDF(gt-i9300.7z) describing the same resistor/process to trip.
Not only that it has completely different partitions. Nothing which works on the International S3 will function on a US variant. If your looking to repair the bricked device Jtag is the only thing. It has to be reset at a partition level first before being able to reload software.

Yep, I actually have the appropriate PIT for the SPH-L710, though, that won't help at this point.
I called Samsung and they sent me a shipping label for repair. They didn't ask any pointed questions.
It was more or less: "What's wrong with it?, Oh it won't boot? OK we'll send you a shipping label, it'll take 2 business days to ship, 5 to repair, and 2 to ship back." I was hoping to hang on to it for a bit to try and fix it to maybe provide a solution for other SPH-L710 users, however everything I find is "It's hard bricked, just pay to get the JTAG repair". A bit disheartening as a computer scientist to have to pay to get something fixed, luckily it doesn't look like I'll have to pay Samsung.
I have a contact in Samsung's memory division, I'm going to see if they can get hook me up with a schematic for the SPH-L710.
If I find anything further, I'll update this thread. Otherwise Samsung is repairing my device.

Samsung galaxy ace GT-S5839i won't boot past samsung animation screen

Sorry if this is in the wrong section
I was playing a game on my phone and it froze so I turned the phone off and then back on again but now the phone won't boot past the samsung animation screen. So I've tried doing factory reset/wipe data but this hasn't worked.
So as the phone is still under contract can this be repaired or do I need to buy a new phone.
If so you can repair it say what happened since it aint a physical damage they would repair it...

Need to know the location of internal Gsm antenna

My mobiles network signal picking capability has drastically reduced after i have opened the backcase. I guess my internal gsm antenna has been damaged after i have opened the case. Please tell me the location where internal gsm module is located in our mobiles motherboard. It would be easy for me to understand if anyone could take a image and post it.

Thanks a lot for the link. Highly informational. Opened my mobile for looking for any damages to the antenna. Previously, when i had given my phone to a local service center for a microphone issue. The have modded the circuit and seems that they have damaged the antenna in the process. I have searched online for getting a spare antenna but in vain. Could you please guide me online where i could get a spare.

Just a thought... Why not take it back to the repair shop? If there are signs of them damaging the antenna, try pushing them to fix it.
Also, some things can be fairly easily repaired at home. Having no idea what the damage actually is, it's hard to say, but creative thinking and a good handywork can go a long way...
