[Q] Sudden very severe color banding - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Yesterday my phone started displaying very severe color banding for no apparent reason... I tried to do a hard reset and dalvik wipe, reinstalled the ROM and still same problem. I tried taking a screenshot of my device through DDMS and the screenshot shows as if there is no color banding, but it is very much visible on the actual screen.
What do I do? Is this a hardware issue?

Sounds like a hardware issue, never experienced that with any ROM, and I've flashed plenty Have you tried flashing a different ROM? Going back to stock?
Sent from AOKP Goodness :-D

If going back to stock doesn't work, send that sucker back.

Well it seems the problem is also present in the recovery menu itself, so i'm afraid this really is a hardware issue...

camera is not working after flash

Hi, I recently updated from fresh 0.5.3 to damage control 3.2.3 including updating the radio and wiimax radio to the latest version. My camera nor camcorder app will work correctly now. When I click the icon it goes to a black screen and stays that way until I click the home icon to exit. I've tried flashing multiple roms to see if that was the issue, but it hasn't changed anything. Anyone have any ideas or tips? Thanks.
this has been happening to me lately too... can't get camera to launch!!! running RvU and all was well and camera worked fine... now suddenly camera shows icon briefly then goes back to home screen, or, when a few other apps are running goes black until pressing home button. trying to launch camera has locked phone up a few times too. Tried deleting apps (ATK, fring etc...) hard reset, remove battery, re-flashing ROM, re-flashing radio... nothing has worked and it hasn't come back even once. WTF? hardware issue?
everything else seems fine and I don't really want to take it in to Sprint just yet... but miss the cam!!!
edit: so after 10,000 reboots and battery/SD card pulls and 500 lock ups... three days of trying everything and getting really frustrated, my wife says 'did you smack it yet?' rather jokingly... and out of spite for sprint/htc I did give the phone a few thwacks on the backside and the frickin' camera fired up! strange lines/slow tapestry of colors... able to switch over to front camera and take a pic... after rebooting she works like a charm (!!!???)... so far so good...
still not working
Anyone have any advice? I seem to have tried nearly everything. Rebooted 10 times in a row, took my battery out for extended periods, reflashed several roms several times (damage control, bugless beast, etc), and fixed permissions in rom manager. The only 2 things I haven't tried yet which I guess are next on the list is flashing to a rooted version of the new ota rom and formatting my sd card. Any other suggestions people?
I ran into the same problem when I tried to use toast's uv-oc kernel on the latest Rom from Fresh.I reflashed the stock htc kernel and everything's back to normal now.

[Q] Non-working Camera

Hey everyone,
So I recently took a friend's EVO 4G and I decided to help him root it. With that being said, I explained that the newer OSes don't have working FFC, and possible issues with Netflix. He was fine with that. However, I've noticed after I installed several ROMs varying from 4.0.3, 4.0.4 and 4.1.1... The camera doesn't work on any of them. It either hot reboots the phone after appearing black for a few seconds or one of the times it showed a blank white screen inside the Camera app. I've tried formatting the phone all different ways, 3x times(although I hear this is a myth, I followed suite). I even tried a couple format scripts. Anyway, I've tried fixing permissions, clearing caches and reinstalling ROMs with no luck. Any suggestions, please!
So it's actually a hardware issue, he neglected to tell me he dropped the phone once and it made the camera a little loose. I was able to press gently on the Camera lens and now it works just fine!

I've had this exact same issue but I haven't dropped it/pushes on the camera doesn't help in any way. I'm starting to get quite frustrated as I've tried multiple rooms and factory resets amongst other things. Did you hear of any possible solutions to this?
*So after hearing that your camera was "loose" I tried pushing lightly and nothing. A couple hours later after more frustration I pushed with quite a bit of force and the camera appeared for a quick second then shut off again. I suppose this is a really good thing because now I know it is just the hardware. Is there any easy process for fixing the camera itself now?

[Q] Weird Screen Flicker Issue

Hi guys,
My Galaxy Nexus has a weird issue that I can't seem to figure out whether it is caused by software or hardware. A portion of my screen seems to flicker when I have certain apps open. They all have a common cause. For instance when I open Chrome and begin to do a search from the top I notice the drop down results will flicker in sync with the cursor. It doesn't appear that the whole screen flickers. It only seems to be the drop down results which are typically black text on white backgroud that flicker. I don't notice anything similar within all other apps such as the standard messaging app which have blinking cursors. I can also get the same flickering result in my IMDB Movie app while starting a search within the app which will start to display results that faintly flicker. I have never seen it flicker using a screen testing app such as the ones used for detecting dead pixels. I am not sure if this is something has always existed on my phone, but I noticed this about a week ago while still on 4.1.2. I am now on 4.2 and still have the issue. I attempted a factory reset just to see if that would clear it up but it didn't. Has anyone else experienced this or have some insight for the flickering? I wanted to see if anyone has noticed this before I start the whole Samsung tech process!
One additional observation I made is that when I don't notice the flickering within Chrome,it will remain without any issue until I go and start clearing recent apps.
Thanks,
Jay
Sounds stupid but you sure its not an auto-brightness issue? Samsung phones are known to have crazy auto brightness but anyway try clearing the cache for each app that seems affected....check back let us know what happens
Thanks for the response. I have turned off auto brightness and tried manual brightness settings with the same result. It hasn't become worse, but I can't explain it either way. I have tried clearing the cache for chrome and other apps, but that also hasn't improved things. I am wondering if I try flashing the phone with a fresh stock image instead of just a factory reset since that automatically re-downloaded my apps. I have never done any modifications (root or unlock) so I am not sure that would really help. Maybe the screen is beginning to go bad, but I figured it would flicker when using a screen test app. It only flickers on the white background for specific app search results (ex. Chrome, IMDB, and Zillow).
Thanks again,
Jay
So I did some more troubleshooting and I started uninstalling apps to see if I could find an app causing the issue if it was software. For some reason if I am running my XDA Forum app and leave it running in the recent apps list then I don't get the flicker within Chrome or other apps that have search with drop down results. It is just the search results that flicker and not the whole screen. As soon as I swipe away the XDA app then the flickering returns. I tried uninstalling the XDA app and the flickering continues. It is fairly subtle. I could try a factory reset again and not allow Google to re-install my apps and see if that resolves the issue, but it is very strange overall. I swung over to a Verizon store that still had one on display (even though mine is a GSM model)and noticed there unit had similar behavior and it could be a coincidence. It is pretty subtle, but I am confused why the XDA app keeps it from doing it.

Weird screen issue with zenfone 2

So yesterday, I flashed cm13 on my phone, the rim was very lackluster so I downgraded back down to the 5.1 pacrom. Well after that I have been getting this extremely annoying screen issue that you will see in the video below (hopefully)
I have already, reflashed the rom, wiped the phone, and flashed to a different rom as well. Nothing has worked.
*edit* looks like i have to send my phone into an asus repair center

my problem mimics this one
The screen issue also only happens on dark, and black backgrounds

Android 7.0 scrolling lag/choppiness and Android system and OS battery drain

A few hours after flashing the factory image, my 5x has been scrolling really choppily, it's not as noticeable when I fling the scrolling ( take my finger off the screen after flinging the scrolling direction) but it's extremely noticeable when I'm scrolling while keeping my finger on the screen. I'm not quite sure if this choppiness only affects scrolling, it could possibly be a frame cap, but I haven't really noticed any lag or choppiness when opening apps. I think this could also be due to the system optimizating the apps in the background since android system and Android OS have pretty high battery usage percentages, and I've been having worse battery life than I had when my 5x was on marshmallow. The phone gets woken up a lot when it's idle. I've reflashed the factory image again and once again for the first few hours the phone is fine and then after that the scrolling choppiness returns and the Android system and Android OS battery drain too. I'll probably roll back to marshmallow if these problems don't get better in a few days after the system is done optimizating the apps in the background. I just wanted to know if anyone else has been having these issues and if anyone has a way to make the scrolling smooth again (once again the scrolling is smooth for a few seconds after rebooting and then the choppiness comes back once again) thanks in advance.
I'm getting same issues Im most likely going back to MM until next Nougat revision is issued

Yea, I also went back to marshmallow because I couldn't stand the scrolling choppiness and the battery life issues. I really did want to wait a few days to see if it made a difference but it felt like the choppiness wasn't just affecting the scrolling it felt like the phone was being frame capped. And the battery life just seemed to get worse and worse so the problems didn't seem to flatten themselves out. However I did read some posts on reddit that suggested the problems being caused webview being integrated into only chrome instead of being a standalone app; the post suggested uninstalling chrome and updating webview. For me it didn't really help with the battery issues and scrolling issues but others can try and see it helps with their phones.
Why are you reflashing the stock image? Try factory resetting or format data/cache in recovery, then just take the OTA.

I reflashed the stock image via the flash-all.bat file so it wipe the entire phone including the data and cache partitions. But even after that the scrolling choppiness and battery issues come back after a few hours.

I'm wondering if the stock image or the flashing process is the issue. I would try reverting back to MM and take the Nougat OTA update, and then format data/cache.
I dont get this issues.
But ive installed tupiac4u Custom Rom.
new on N5x, bought the day 7.1.1 came out.
I never tried 6.0 but 7.1.1 (only thing I tried, why downgrade?) is far from being smooth
I'm trying kernels, roms, aosp, cm, stock based, anyhting I do doesn't help. it's not smooth
I have 3 friends with unrooted phone, who just updated to 7.1.1 through OTA and is smooth as should be....curious....
well, I tried 6.0 and is not any good
updated to 7.1.1...not solved
done again factory reset with flash-all.bat to 7.1.1 and is still not perfect...
I tried a friend's unit, is damn smooth, really, 60fps always, scrolling is so good...
I really don't know how to solve this. custom kernels are faster but not smoother....
wish I could get it replaced

Definitely get it replaced, sounds like bunk hardware. Maybe a faulty CPU/GPU.
LEMON!!

I can't...what should I say? the device works, everything run fine. no hardware fault...just a unfortunate unit, but is not enough to get it replaced
I just was having all these issues and Google is replacing my phone after going through all the troubleshooting with them.
If you guys go to the sound menu in the actual settings menu, does your volume jump around at all? I discovered this on the phone and I'm wondering if this is some weird issue separate form these problems or part of a bigger problem with this image.
