Hi guys I flashed the new virtuous Rom and yesterday I couldn't get the Google navigation to work. All it does is stay on the checking navigation availability screen. Is there a problem with just my phone or is it a problem everyone is going threw on this Rom and is there a fix?
No problems here
Not my experience with Virtuous 3.2. Just took it outside to recheck and no problems with GPS.
On 3.2 for a week or so. Nav working fine for me.

While actual navigation works for me, i found that the "speak destination" feature does not. After noticing this i went to the text messaging app to see of the speech to text feature works on the keyboard and it force closes also.
Does anyone else have this problem?

Do you have any Task Managers/Killers installed? I used to run Virtuous with Advanced Task Manager and found that it was causing problems. I removed it and did a fresh install and my phone ran fine after that.
If it is being caused by a task killer most have an option to ignore apps you select. I use advanced task killer froyo and it has an ignore function, however the nav app is not on my ignote list and will kill the app if i am not using it but once opened again it works just fine.

Are you able to opem your maps app? I am curious because i noticed that it opens every time nav app does.
Sorry guys I've been busy, well update I couldn't for the life of my figure out why it wasn't finding me so I got so frustrated that I flashed my very first Rom (skyraider 2.5.2) and google navigation worked like a charm. I do have task killer but I flashed skyraider before reading the post about task killer. Well thank you guys for your input.
Only problem I'm having is that NAV kills pauses music when giving a turn-by-turn instruction, but then doesn't allow music to resume. This feature worked correctly on 2.1, then was broken on 2.2, then fixed on the NOV OTA, which 3.2 is supposedly based on. Not sure why this bug persists.
I just flashed CM7 coming from Fresh ROM. I had previously added the notification widget toggle in Fresh and really liked it. The one in CM7 has only 4, 1 of which I actually use. Is there anyway to change what widget toggle items are in the notification pull-down? Thanks for the help!
Yeah, and you can add as many toggles as you want, change the order, etc. The options are under settings > Cyanogenmod settings > interface > notification power widget or something like that. I'm running MIUI right now, so I can't check, but when I was on CM7 it was in CM settings somewhere.
Maybe someone running CM7 or that knows for sure can confirm where it is.
thx m8! That is exactly where it is. Can't believe I didn't already look in there......
How are you liking MIUI, funny because I went from Fresh, to MIUI, to CM7, only kept MIUI for 1 day, after finding out that no GPS and having a voicemail phantom icon...I had to switch...
I don't have an icon for vm at all, but haven't tried installing it. It worked for me okay on CM7, haven't tried it on MIUI. And I rarely use gps (I have a great sense of direction and rarely travel far), but I didn't need to do the fix, it just worked - turn by turn & everything. I like it, though. My life's a little hectic right now, so the simplicity of the MIUI launcher works well for me. It's the first time I've used a "stock" launcher (if you want to call it that) since like a week after I got my Evo.
That being said, I'll still probably switch to CM7 final within a week. Cyanogenmod just has it all, and this is the first time I've used anything else for more than a day. I'd suggest giving MIUI another shot at some point though. They just released the "final" version. I haven't tried it yet, but some of your issues may be fixed.
Well if you want VVM, you'll have to go to sense, make sure it works, backup the app and data, then restore. As for CM7 final, no problems here and on the Tiamat kernel = sick battery life, non-sbc.
The MIUI GUI is aboslutely amazing! and that is what I loved about it. But I tried it just 2 days ago, on their most current release and the GPS wasn't working for me. Also, I use google voice, however there was a stock voicemail notification that wouldn't ever go away, seems pretty common. I liked MIUI so much that I have used some of the .apk's in my CM7 setup. Mainly the MIUIMusic and Camera, which are quite...lovely? I really wanted the File Explorer, but I've heard around that it doesn't work on CM7, which is a bummer. All in all, CM7 seems to be the ROM I will stick with for the time being.
Edit: oh yeh, and what ultimately made me choose CM over MIUI was that I read on their forum that Hardware version 004 has issues with it, mainly the GPS doesn't work...
Otherbugs I had: White screen flash when scrolling and white text bug

Hadn't looked into any specific kernel to run yet... should I really consider using Tiamat? And if so, do I just flash in recovery? Will I have to Re-flash and setup CM7 afterwards?
Thanks for the help!
Edit: Also, wasn't wanting VVM, I heard that it is a common problem with AOSP ROMS. I still have that same notification issue in CM7, but there is an option to hide VVM notifications, and since I'm using Google Voice for voicemail, it works great. MIUI didn't seem to have that option to hid the VVM notification.
Boot to recovery, wipe cache/dalvik, flash kernel. Do not wipe data. You will not need to re-set up anything.

FIXED: Got the kernel working, trying it out....we will see...
I bought my first Android device - a HTC Desire Z - about 2 months ago in China and it came with a goapk ROM. I believe it included HTC Sense 2.x functionality, but I didn't want the Chinese customisations and I also wanted root access. So after a couple of weeks I rooted it using the gfree procedure and I ended up with CM7.0.
However there is some functionality missing from CM7.0 that HTC Sense provided.
• The camera app doesn't allow manual subject selection for focussing or half press and hold of shutter button to freeze light settings. A red eye reduction flash mode would also be useful.
• I can't find a map app that provides offline map viewing.
• The default music player doesn't support wma files – but I've since resolved this issue with PowerAMP.
• I’m not sure what it was, but the keyboard that came with the goapk was pretty nice and also had Chinese character OCR.
So, I'm thinking that I'd like to try an HTC ROM with Sense but still retain root access. So I have a few general questions.
What version of HTC Sense does the latest Gingerbread ROMs on shipped-roms.com use? (I’ve just downloaded RUU_Vision_Gingerbread_S_HTC_WWE_2.42.405.2_Radio_12.56.60.25_26.10.04.03_M_release_199043_signed ) Has HTC updated the shipped Desire Z ROM to Sense 3.x, or do I need to use a Virtuous Unity ROM?
Could someone briefly tell me what functional differences there are between the WWE (World Wide English), Asia and TW ROMs available at shipped-roms.com?
After having used CM7.x, is the installation procedure for an HTC shipped ROM straight forward? Anything I need to be careful about, like pre-installing a HTC bootloader or the Desire Z HBoot for example?
Can custom ROMs like Virtuous Unity be used with the HTC Sync PC application?
Thanks. Any further advice would be appreciated.
CM7 is quite buggy, I got tired of issues with GPS, wifi-calling, etc. and finally switched over to Virtuous ROMs and all of the glitches went away, they have a good sense ROM and also a good stock ROM with mild overclocking and bloatware removed called G-lite 1.03
I won't let a CM-based ROM anywhere near my phone, and most ROM's are CM7 based
and yes, all Virtuous ROMs work fine with HTC-Sync and PC communications

You just gonna bash CM7 in every thread?
OP, I'd never recommend against a ROM. I'd just advocate more for one or the other. I think if you want Sense, you're one of those people who just want Sense, and there are good options out there as far as Virtuous (and others) go. You can always try others and make ROM manager backups to switch between them too.
- As far as the Camera, that's a gripe people have (i'm not a huge camera user). Try MIUI camera, its got a big set of new features and is just an .apk you can add to AOSP ROMs.
- Google Maps lets you cache map data in a certain area. Long press on an area and you can select to download a 10mi radius of the current point. You can do this as many times as you want to cache a whole state if you'd like (it'll just take up a lot of storage room).
- I'm not sure about int'l keyboards... you'll have to look into that one. You'll probably have to install a language pack.
DON'T install a RUU or shipped ROM. that will unroot your device. You need to install a custom pre-rooted ROM, most people who want Sense like to use Virtuous. I'd also look at a few of the other options. Like I said above, you can switch around till you find what you want.

Yes, buggy ROMs get on my nerves, this isn't 2 weeks after the G2 was released to the public, it's more like a year or more, and a ROM ought to be mature by then, and at least do the basics without glitches. (camera, wifi calling, GPS, reception, etc.)
I am very appreciative of great work, but just like with cell phones themselves, I have no tolerance for crappy quality control (this is why I own HTC phones and not some Motorola POS)
No one ever accused me of being politically correct

There are fixes for the "problems" that you seem to find in cm7. Changing your radio will fix ur gps, improve your signal and battery life (I get about 24 hours on a single charge). Wifi calling works fine for me, has since cm7rc1 was out. My camera is amazing, I use it to capture important moments with my children everyday (stock, miui, paper, 360, funpro... these cameras all work flawlessly for me).
I guess the problems you have are with your setup, and since your defeatist attitude has you at a brick wall, it's obvious you'll never get anywhere in the android community. If cm7 was SO buggy, why would me, my wife, my brother, my mom, 3 of my co-workers, and thousands of people around the world (all on g2/dz's) be so satisfied?
Maybe I'm biased cuz I've loved cyanogen since cm4.0.4 on the g1. I learned a lot with it back then, and I apply that knowledge when rooting/flashing/optimizing mine or anyone else's phone today. I bet you'd have complained to no end that you couldn't get a2sd working on cm4.0.4. You just need to ask politely and not troll. The answers are there.

Thank you martonikaj,
I'll give Virtuous Unity a try.
I've also now found the modified Google Maps apps that enables caching to SD card have been posted by brut.all here and stan230 here. Any recommendation as to which of these is the best?
I'll also give the MIUI camera app a try, or possibly buy Camera ZOOM FX.

I wasn't aware you needed a modified Google Maps app? The stock one allows me to cache map data to my SDcard... I'm working on the latest GAPPS package , and I think Google Maps has been OTA updated probably once or twice since then.

You don't need a modded Google Maps to cache to SD. Its a standard feature of Maps. In Maps, just go to Menu>More>Labs, and activate "Pre-cache map area". Then when you long press on the map, the address will popup, click on the address, and you will see the option to cache the map area.
Try using the rom ILWT cm7 it has a built in oc daemin so it saves battery and you have the latest features since he updates every important nightlie
So you should give it a try!

GPS software with maps on card
If you are serious about GPS navigation, and you want to carry full maps and have lots of memory card space to spare, you can buy an app like Sygic GPS ( http://www.sygic.com/en/android ). Then you can use whatever roms you want.
There are other apps out there that do the same thing, but this is what I used to run, and I had no issues with it.
I am trying to flash my Inc with a new ROM for the first time, but it seems like more than half the ROMs on this page are either removed by the developer or cant be downloaded because the download links are dead.
Any tips on what to try first, based on what available still? The only thing I am concerned with is that the ROM is stable and compatible with as many of the stock functions as possible, stuff like broken radios is not what I am looking for right now. Would be kinda cool to try one as different from stock as possible. Does CM7 work well on the Inc? I keep seeing people talking about stuff that is broken with it.

Ice Cream Sandwich. Abduction by Hanger84 is smoother than the Sense ROMs.
Sent from my Incredible using XDA
Abduction is good to try if you want to experice ice cream.... but prepare for some bugs and missing features ( ie Camcorder, camera, & flash on websites and netflix) I suggest one of the gingerbread Roms or Froyo Roms. CM 7 or 8 should be fine, but you loose some of the things you may be accustomed to in Sense (Widgets). But there are pretty good apps that can do what sense does, you just have to look for them.
I'm using CM 7.2 RC1 (RC2 crashes right away for me) with latest ICS Incredikernal and SmartassV2 governor, fully over-clocked. Never crashes, everything works but, of course, 720p recording. I even found decent settings for auto-brightness (Make about 16 levels, start out at ~70, go up in ~5 point increments, then increase. Set Window Length to 5 secs). I have tried three ICS roms but always went back.
I'm using the new Go Launcher but it has a couple of bugs. Clear its data to get the large icons if you are stuck on small. To change settings on the large weather clock you have to do it via the small weather clock.
I use CyanogenMod 7.2. Along with Chad/Tiny's Incredikernel, Jermaine/Tiny's EXT4All mod, and Launcher Pro. Speedy and battery efficient. The latest RC should be fine, I'm on one of the nightlies and have been using Pons' KANGs when his computer was still working.
In addition to Sonny Sekhon's Ice Cream Sandwich CM7 Theme.
If you like the stock ROM, and want something stable and based off of it, Liberation 3.0 is a good choice. It is basically a rooted, debloated, stock ROM. I keep a copy on my SD card incase I need access to EPST or just feel like using Sense.
ICS is getting there, but the laggy animations and general speed have kept me away. It seems to me that the current hardware acceleration isn't 100% implemented. But I have never used ICS outside of the Incredible. So I don't have room to compare.
I'm with the majority here. CM 7.2 RC2 is great. I actually have stock kernel though, I am not sure if performance is better with incredikernel but I can tell you that CM7 is TONS better than stock in terms of battery life, customization, and overall android experience. I like sense but on the Inc, it's like they stopped trying...
P.S. - I also use GO Launcher EX with kovdev's ICS theme.
Well I just switched from Abduction to CM9 and so far CM9 is much better!!

Ok before I started getting replies here I dl'd Touch of Blue and Stock+, tried ToB for the week and it was ok but started to crash and lag a lot. The latter may have been due to my SetCPU settings, I dunno, but it was getting hung up on simple apps, and I did not like a couple things about it, like getting calls when the screen is off required you to unlock it, then unlock it again at the receiving call screen. Also didnt like the battery meter.
Just installed Stock+ and immediately realized it wouldn't work at all when I saw that the App Data partition was still at 150MB. Thats the whole reason I rooted, so there is no way I am using a ROM that is eventually gonna give me the Low space messages again.
GOnna try the ones you guys suggested now
I like Wildstangs stock ROM, and gtiny's kernel. I used root app delete to debloat it. And run the on demand deadline settings and can go 11 hours on a full charge with heavy use.
I also like the last stable release of CM7.1.0 it is smoking fast and way less issues then the nightlies or kangs to me.

CM7.2 couldn't figure out how to add my Google account. Also couldnt disable the camera shutter sound.
Tried Liberation but the App Data partition is still only 150MB; as soon as I restore my apps its gonna be out of space again.
ALL ROMs for the Incredible are going to have a 150 MB data/data partition. It's the way HTC made it. The only way around it is with the EXT4All mod. More information here. The file you're looking for to remove the limit is "Convert2Ext4_no_data_limit_normal_dalvik.zip".
And there is an options in the CM7 sound settings to disable the shutter sound. Called "Mute camera shutter".
Ok I found the camera sound setting, thanks. Any advice on getting the Google account to work? The Account settings were trying to setup an email thing, not my Google account
EDIT:
Figured out that I need to flash the Google apps pack on CM7 to get that all to work, but ClockworkMod kept failing to mount the pack when I tried to install it. Now I am back on Liberation, because at least here I have my Google account with contacts, but I cannot get the EXT4 fix to work. I download it, open it with Clockwork, tell it to reboot and apply, but it fails to mount it, just like the Google apps pack problem. Using Clockwork 5.0.2.0
I have this really weird lag when I'm on ANY 4.4 based ROM no matter what kernel or gapps package I use. So I install the ROM and its all great but I start travelling and after sometime the notification drawer is all laggy and stuttering like never before. I thought it could be a GPS issue and tried disabling wifi, gps and mobile data but no luck, I also tried clearing app cache, doing a clean wipe and reinstalling ROM, trying almost every 4.4 based ROM out there. All I did was do a Clean install (factory reset, wipe dalvik, cache, system) from TWRP 2.6.3.2, configure the accounts, install superSU from playstore and update binaries, install TiBackup and restore user apps with data. It was still smooth until I leave work/home/travel somewhere. Anyone else facing this issue? Other than this weird lag, the UI is buttery smooth (no lags on homescreen, app drawer, opening and closing apps, etc) and even the RAM usage is quite low (<300MB). I cant seem to figure out what could be causing this. Please help me.
PS: the notification drawer lags ONLY when there are no notifications or when there is a permanent notification. When I get a dismissable notification it doesnt resemble any lag at all!
Thanks.

I'm also on a recent nightly, and although I don't *feel* any disturbing stutter in notification drawer, it isn't quite as smooth as what's on my Nex4. Now, as the OP has hinted, I tried getting a dismissable notification in the drawer and boom, the drawer is suddenly as smooth as hell - but only for seconds. Wondering why...

I do a clean flash as I stated previously. Factory Reset, Wipe dalvik cache, system, cache, Flash ROM, Gapps (dhacker29's latest), and reboot. Since I use TiBackup to restore, I also download SuperSU from playstore just to update binaries and make TiB work, I uninstall superSU after that and use the built-in superuser app.

I know right? Once I disabled Wifi optimization as it was on, and it got smooth again, but that wasn't the end. I went to work and pulled out my phone, and boom, its all laggy and stuttering again. A few hours back I gave KitKat another shot but this time it was laggy even after the clean install without any apps restored. This is the weirdest thing to ever happen to my GNex. Now I'm back on AOKP 4.3.1 M1 with Tiny Kernel 5.4 with the smoothest android experience ever. Let's wait for the developers to take a look into this issue. :fingers-crossed:
Okay I think I found a solution. I tried 5 use-cases:
Flash method: Clean - Factory reset, wipe dalvik cache & cache, wipe ROM, flash ROM, gapps
1. CM11 ROM with built-in kernel
2. CM11 ROM with Tiny 5.4 kernel
3. CM11 ROM with built-in kernel
4. CM10.2.0 (stable) ROM with built-in kernel
5. CM10.2.0 (stable) ROM with Tiny 5.4 kernel
I noted that when I did not flash a 3rd party kernel the issue seemed to persist even at first start-up. But when I flashed a 3rd party kernel (be it any compatible kernel) there was absolutely no lag at all. But then the question of why I tested it on CM10.2 ROM is because I found the same notification drawer lag on CM10.2 (official) ROM. Maybe this started after the ram-disk was changed? (I'll leave that for the developers to decide).
Note: I'm currently on Gummy 21-12-13 build with Tiny 5.4 kernel, ART enabled. When I started off to work today I wanted to switch to 3G and when I did so the lag was back, but after it found a signal tower it disappeared. I have found no lag so far.
Something off-topic : But commonly throughout these tests, I found that these ROM's exhibited terrible lag when using live wallpaper.
If someone (facing the same issue as stated in the OP) can confirm that the above solution works, it will help alleviate the problem.
Edit: Also found in tricksterMOD that the deep-sleep mode was in the 'unused states' category.

I just wanted to confirm if it was really a bug or something that was specific to my phone. That confirmed the former, thanks!
Just wanted to add my thoughts on this. Are you guys using the Google Experience launcher with the "Ok Google" Hotword Detection? If so, turn off the hotword detection in settings. After doing that, I get no lag whatsoever in my notification drawer. I didnt use that feature that much anyway.
Still no dice on this issue? Not intentionally bumping, but I think this issue might have a deeper cause that requires more attention from devs.
I've read through the "suggestions" above and I can say that nothing works. What I have is a VERY clean CM11 + Franco r395 - no Gapps, no Google Experience Launcher, no Google Now (Google Search is force stopped and its shortcut removed), very few installed apps, no background apps except for input method, lots of free RAM (~520MB), yet this still happens. Only thing that removes the lag temporarily is an incoming notification, which only makes it smooth for seconds.
Sent from Google Nexus 4 @ CM11
Okay, tried many JB ROMs and they all don't have the lag. Try one of the KK ROMs and they come back immediately. Something with KK source?

One more update: flashed latest CyanogenMod nightly (CM11 20140325) and I surprisingly discovered that the notif lag is gone. Turns out I'm wrong, as the lag is gone only in lockscreen and Trebuchet. However, on second thought, does this phenomenon mean that CM/Trebuchet recently implemented something that potentially removes the lag? What patch is it exactly, and why isn't it applied on other apps?
I still think that this "simple and bearable" problem has a darker side that requires more attention.
