Best Micro SD cards for GS3 (AT&T) - Galaxy S III Accessories

Happy to report that my SanDisk 64GB microSD works perfectly fine with my GS3 (AT&T). Will provide test data later. SD tools seems not to be working. If anybody knows another SD test tool let me know.
I suggest we post here new SD cards that come out. I will most definitively buy any card coming out with more storage (e.g. 128GB).

Do you have yours formatted exfat? Or are you going with Fat32? Works fine with FAT32 right now, sticking with that because I'm not sure if CM9 would support exfat when it's released for our device.

Right now I am still FAT32 since I just moved it from my GS2 to my GS3. I have not tried exFAT. But that's a good idea. It would be nice to have a program that tests SD read/write speed but SD tools seems not to recognize my external SD. Any thoughts anybody?

This is the one that I am using, just paid a lot less for it

Yea, last week I got my 64 GB that I got through Amazon Gold Box deals. Just replaced my 32.....now I have an extra 32.....thinking of popping it into an Arduino, that I'll wire up to my home system. Wave an NFC tag, have it start up an MP3 player in the Arduino and blast my sound system.

The "best" microSDXC cards are the new class10 UHS-1 cards, that can sustain 30MB/s.
I just picked up a 64GB Sandisk class10 off ebay for $64 (the prices are now higher at ~$72) with free shipping (from china); took 9 days to arrive.

I've been using the class 10 amazon branded ones for everything. Out of the 6 I have, no bad ones and all test at or better than class 10 speeds.
One thing about formats: Fat32 has a 2 gig file size limit so if you want to throw on a big movie, it wont work.

If you get scammed on Ebay, then you're doing it wrong.
This is the 3rd microSD I've bought from ebay, and all have been genuine and as-described, as evidenced by packaging, benchmarks, and longevity. As long as you don't have ADHD, and can stand waiting a week+ for shipping, you can usually get stuff from China cheaper than US resellers. All you need to do is make sure you buy from a "top seller" with thousands of sales, and a 99%+ positive rating.
(And as far as the $55 bestbuy deal a while back, that was for the class6, not class10)

Mine was from Buy dot com not best buy and it is a class 10, though now it looks like it is back to 85. Amazon also had it for about $60 so if you wait a week itll pop up for sub $65 often.
Not sure how you can ebay wrong but you should always be wary of a vendor you dont know..high ratings or not. Trusting an asian seller blindly is stupid. I know a lot of people that got scammed on ebay and elsewhere with clones instead of the real deal. Those resellers had 1000's of great ratings but sold fake products. They always look identical even in packaging to the real deal too.
On Benchmarks if they give what they are suppose to is one thing, but too bad most just buy a card and never test and just assume they are the full speed real deal.
Bottom line -- Sure you can get good deals from out of the country, but it isnt always the best deal and there is more room for getting screwed when they are not a larger local retail outlet.

Yep got mine from Amazon a couple weeks ago for like $60.

Luckyyyyyyy </napoleandynamite>. The last time I got a free upgrade on anything, it was years ago when I had to RMA a failing Seagate HDD and they sent me a replacement that was nearly double in capacity, but, since it was going back in a RAID, I couldn't even really take advantage of the extra space.

really i havnt purchased 1 yet but was thinking about it although i asked if i can collect with it being local, maybe i should try 1 out and let you guys no what there like?
I purchased a 16gb class 10 joyflash or something like that from ebay, it would barely transfer over 3.2mb/s and then it died that same day, my advice don't buy cheap cards.
yea i bought a cheap 32 of ebay from hong kong. fine at first then after 2 gb phone says card blank or unrecognisd format. ill get a 16gig sandisk for 15 quid of amazon at least it will work
all that glitters is not gold, give them a wide birth my friend.
Sounds to cheap 32 gb cards start from £50 there is no way he is making money on them if they are original but I assume fakes cause he gets them cheaper than £18.47
I had a cheap (fake) 8GB Memory Stick Duo for my PSP from eBay, it stored a whomping 10MB!
lol yeah think ill give it a miss, if most people say there no good ill agree, how come 16gb are nicely priced £15+ but 32gb is whooping £50+

Even cards being offered at £50 require an inordinate amount of inquiry.
As an example ~ last week I sent an email to an online retailer named Memorycardzoo.
The retailer is advertising a Sandisk 32GB MicroSD card as being Class 4 for £55.99 (see here).
My inquiry was to confirm this was indeed a Class 4 and not the slower Class 2.
The retailer replied immediately confirming the cards were correct in that they were Class 4.
I then sent a further message informing them that a lot of online retailers were advertising something that clearly was not as stated.
Again they came back very politely and professionally reiterating not to worry the cards were accurately advertised as Class 4.
As such I placed my order for said card.
Today I got back home to find a small package that had the card within.
On opening the package the card is indeed a Sandisk 32GB card BUT it is NOT a Class 4 but the slower Class 2.
I have just sent them an email asking them to explain their actions.
In the meantime I would advise anyone not to deal with Memorycardzoo until I have an answer.
I shall reply here when such reply is received.
Beards.
I just bought this for £13.99 worth a try class 4 and you can even check on kingston china to see if they are genuine hurry though they are selling like hot cakes.

So you can confirm that you bought and received this card from these people, and that what you received wasn't up to expectations? What was the problem? Was the capacity smaller than advertised? Was it too slow? Was it just a fake, through and through?
I just ordered one before you replied. I wonder if I can cancel an order now!
Not sure if it was these people but same card. worked fine at first 31gb available, stopped working after about 2 gig now nothing will even recognize the card-cant even format it. Make sure you make regular back ups of anything on card, i lost some stuff. Mabey mine was fake i wish you luck-ill never buy cheap hongkong again.
WOW great find, bought one too, half the price of the fake on I bought for 26£ and am getting my money back
they look genuine to me, so i got 1 too, if they come and there not ill request refund lol.
They sold 199 of them with no neg feedback so to me its a good buy

I just bought the same one! You can get 10 dollars off (to make it $39.99) if you buy it with a new account. Use the promo code NEWCUSTOMER10. You have to add something small to the order to get it over 50. I went to Newegg gear and added a Newegg wristband, as it was the cheapest item with free shipping.
I wouldn't buy any cards off Ebay. There's as much incentive to sell rigged cards as there is demand for high capacity. My roommate just bought a 32 GB off Ebay and he got lucky. Make sure that the seller offers returns and when you get it immediately run h2testw.
I just have one question for the OP..
Are you feelin lucky?

My wife and I picked up Patriot sd's from Micro Center... I think they were $39 they work pretty awesome. Price wasnt bad at all compared to online prices. it seems like it is luck of the draw on the Generic ebay ones so we stayed away from those.
Fakes are extremely common for flash memory on ebay, especially on any kind of "OMG WHAT A DEAL!" type of things. The fakes are usually a 2GB card that's had a 3 painted on it in front of the 2, and hacked firmware to make it appear to be 32. But when you try to fill it, it won't let you, because it's still just a 2GB card.
Basically, if it's substantially below the going rate from reputable sources (looks to be roughly $60-80), you're going against probably 80-90% odds that you'll get a fake.
I made the mistake of buying one and I can put 32 gb worth in info on there but when I put it in the phone it can't access it.
I wouldn't buy from anyone but a trusted source and right now I wouldn't buy one for less than about $50.00.
In a year or two they'll be going for $25.00, but right now anything that cheap is bound to be a fake that doesn't actually hold anywhere near 32GB.

true story
16gb class 10 (14.8 formatted)- ~$35
32gb class 10 (formatted size unknown)- ~$82
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004H8FTCK
i bought the 16gb c10 and it shipped fast and works perfectly for me. it is a real card, not a rip off too. sdtools (i think its called) for android said it has a r=10-12.5mb/s w=20-25mb/s or something in that range (been a while since i uninstalled the app). never had a problem and i highly recommend it, the 16gb one atleast since thats the only one i can speak for.
Patriot class 6 32gb micro SD card from Fry's for $69 about 3 months ago.
It's legit, not like the fakes on Ebay. Google it. You will find out the truth. Even if you pay near to the going price, you run the risk of getting a fake. IMHO, it's just not worth the hassle.
Got one it works pretty good..

[Q] Is it a best deal on ebay for 32GB Micro SDHC???

I just found an ebay.com seller listed a kingston 32gb micro sdhc (class 4) card for just $16 ...I dont whether its a genuine deal or not but till now has already sold more than 80 cards (within 12 hrs)....
here's the link http://cgi.ebay.in/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270781614305&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
Last week I saw a similar deal (32gb kingston for $20) I purchased 3 .... although paypal refunded all my money today when i raised a claim but it's such a waste of time....
Can anybody confirm whether its a genuine deal? ALso can anybody suggest a best deal (with worldwide shipping) for buying 32gb micro sdhc class 4 (or 10) card
Nope they are fake. when you plug it in it will show 32gb but in reality they are 1-2 gb cards. I once bought a 16gb flash drive which turned out to be 2gb. never buy flash memory on ebay esp from china. Buy from trusted sellers only.
the money for the "16gb flashdrive" was refunded to me.
Edit:
Same seller look at this auction:

If he sends the same kingston card as shown in the pic.... is thr any chance of gettin fake ...
I hv seen many loose or unbranded cards as fake ....hv u encountered any fake card in kingston's retail packing?
Yes they are fake. Fake packaging. Made mostly for schmucks like you who think they are real because of the box they come in. If you put a Lamborghini logo and a ford, Its still just a crappy ford.
Anyone can duplicate packaging even if it has holograms. Everything is easily duplicated. Also the card they state is a class 4, Which I doubt. Its most likely a class 1. Either way Class 4 is useless. Get at least a class 6 card or class 10 which is best. If you care at all about watching movies or recording in HD onto the card.
LESSON OF THE DAY:
IF IT SEEMS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE.... IT IS!

Recording and playback will be fine with a class 2 card. You certainly don't need anything faster than class 4. The only advantage a class 6 or 10 card has would be faster transfers between your pc and the card.

I have both...I can claim without a doubt my Class 10 32GB Patriot is a lot faster than my 16GB Class 4 Sandisk.
Where do I notice it most besides PC transfers? Media scanner.... the 32GB scans more than twice as fast as the 16GB on reboots after changes. Well worth the $86.

It scans far more than a "bit quicker". It scans faster then the internal SD card!!
No matter.....I paid $600 for a phone...and am flashing custom ROMS and Kernels and donating to the developers and this site supporting them for more speed with stability, I am not going to cut corners in the same arena to save $40 on a lesser SD Card. I want to get the most out of the handset on all fronts. In that regard the class 10 card makes sense.
Then again people will pay $600+ for a handset, $300+ a year for a data plan and balk at paying $3 for a helpful app or donating to a developer. Strange world this mobile phone world indeed.

How the hell can a 256 gb flash drive cost 9 euros.
If anyone did get their flash memory on ebay and its always corrupting, Run a test with a program.
Here is the guide: http://reviews.ebay.com/How-to-chec...ke-USB-flash-drive_W0QQugidZ10000000003407025

Just want to say that remember that Hong Kong is not China even if they are connected and the people look alike. Hong Kong has been a British ruled colony until 1995. China's government tried to make villagers make steel made in the villagers backyards. Do the math.
HK>China

yes there are different speeds. the class is the speed. so there is class 2,4,6,10 and i think thats it as far as i know. so class 2 would write = 2mb/s, class 4= 4mb/s, class 6= 6mb/s and last class 10= 10mb/s. that is there write speeds. so the one in ur link is a class 4 so 4mb/s. i notice it when transferring files from my pc to the micro sd card

Are the 16gb, class 10 Samsungs that seem to be flooding ebay in their bulk packaging form with the Blue lettering genuine? How are their benchmarks compared to the white lettered ones (and are they genuine, too)?

I bought a bunch in bulk packaging due to the price a few months back. Haven't run into any noticeable problems as of yet.
From my understanding, the bulk packaging may seem like illegal counterfeits, but are not. They are sold in bulk packaging to manufacturers who claim they will use them in their devices. The excess ones are then sold through retail venues (against the agreement they have with sandisk).
I bought one of the white lettered ones from a US-based seller (nextwebsales) via an auction for 10 bucks. I'll post the benches on here when I receive it.
I received the card today and it was NOT the white lettered card shown in the picture, but rather the blue lettered one. I attached a couple of pictures. The card checked out in h2testw, so no problems with the capacity. I did a few benchmarks with crystaldiskmark and attached one that seems representative of the performance. Mind you, this was done with an integrated SD card reader (so using the included adapter) on a 6-year old dell laptop running Vista 32-bit, so until I finally get an android phone (soon, my precious, soon) or a card reader for my new PC, I can't be sure these benches are completely accurate. The sequential read speed seems a bit low and nothing else looks particularly spectacular. I'm not so sure this is genuine Samsung OEM, but for 10 bucks it seems decent until I actually invest in a real 32GB card when I replace my iPhone with an android counterpart.
Best Buy also has a lot of their micro SD's on sale this week. Picked up a SanDisk 16GB Class 10 for 17.99 last night.

Nice! While I can't say I recommend buying one of these sketchy cards from eBay, I will say I don't think I got ripped off. For the performance, reliability, and warranty of some of the name brand cards it's definitely worth the premium.
For Canadians looking for a cheap 16gb Class 10 microSD card:
http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX32238
http://ncix.ca/products/?mode=productreviewread&product_id=53175
Only $12.99, Super cheap if you could pick it up. I just grabbed one myself.
Well, I may have to amend my previous statements about this card. I just received a $0.99 microsd card reader from eBay and let 'er rip on my desktop (Windows 7 64-bit) and it yielded much different results. This was after a quick format and plugging in the reader into a front I/O port not directly soldered to the mobo. It looks like the laptop reader/Vista was throttling the performance. If it holds up, it may be a good deal.

Over the years, I've been burnt on mailbox memory from reputable sources on more than 1 occasion. This is an ideal situation because Best Buy is a reputable source plus in this case you get online pricing with immediate receipt.
newegg has some for about 17$. reputable company. search newegg first.

Agreed.
sure you can get one on newegg for $17-20 but they aren't class 6+
i ordered this one from best buy online and picked up in store. the site says class 6 but they gave me a class 10. both class 6 and 10 look identical so i got lucky.. for some reason they don't even show class 10 on the site. i can't complain and certainly won't find another card for cheaper (non fleabay) with better performance. 64GB is nice but i will wait for the price to drop.. 32gb is more than enough at the moment for me.

I also did store pickup from Best Buy just now, and they also handed me a Class 10.
I got a class 6 32 gb chip off amazon for 19.00. It could be an option for you.
Store pic up you go with your card and Id? I wonder if I buy in store if I will get a class 6 or ten

Yes just ID and the credit card. After I picked mine up, I checked on the shelves and they didn't even have a rack for the 32GB Class 6. Your chances might increase exponentially if this is the same case at your store!

that's nice.. i wonder if it's a typo on their site and it's suppose to be 10.. unless they ran out of 6 (maybe no longer in production?) who knows..

yes. even if you get a class 6 it's still worth it.. 6 is still fast and class 10 is just a tad faster. just note this is a 1 day sale and will end soon.. so jump now or never
Going right now wish me luck guys. I have a class 10 16gb card and its full.

Not a bad price, or the greatest. I've gone both routes, I picked up a deal of the day type sale at frys on a class 10 32gb samsung for 27 bucks and its been flawless in my galaxy s2, my sk4g I went the budget route and picked up 1 sandisk 32gb class 4 from amazon for 19 and a house brand from newegg 32gb class 6 for 18 bucks as a backup. Athough I haven't had any issues with the cheapos, the class 10 I picked up from frys is the route id prefer to take if I get another. For the extra 5 bucks u don't wait for shipping, get an actual retail packaged product that's guarenteed to be as advertised. Any issues u roll back to the store and get another, u order one online an it has issues, well i returned 2 8gb class 6s I ordered online because they would not format or read on a pc and as of yesterday 3wks since I ordered and I'm still without 2 workings sd cards. Best buys deal is solid and if ur in immediate need, id pick one up and have the peace of mind that u got what u paid for. The 2 32gb I got online both test very inconsistant, I've got as fast as class 6 speeds and also sub class 2 speed. The 1 I picked up at frys tests consistantly over class 10 specs. Well worth the extra 5-7 bucks imo. I'm holdin out for that $50 64gb of the same brand best buy advertises now and then

so im guessing the cards I bought from them that say class 10 is lying to me then :silly:
besides unless your are buying these for a camera/camcorder, class shouldn't matter unless you are really impatient when copying stuff to the card

I hate their over limit certificate policy. Got a $35 and a $5 certicate but they wouldn't take the $35 one so I had to buy it for $21 tax included
