I'd try another bettery first, you can get them pretty cheap. Then if it reboots with the new battery, check the charging port. EVOs are known to have charging port issues. If it is busted, investing in a battery wall charger isn't a bad idea.

So if the port jiggles that's means it is loose? So would I go to sprint to replace it? Ik the evo has been discontinued though

Do you have an extra battery to try? If not, perhaps it's time for a new one. Good luck.
I do but that one also wont charge

sounds like a bad charger or charging port do you have another phone with a Micro USB plug? if it is the charger then that one will charge your battery if its the port then you have no choice but to try your best to unroot and take it in for a repair and I hope you have tep or some kind of insurance

Got a replacement Epic Touch and have problems.

My phone was stolen and i ordered another phone from Asurion yesterday. I received the phone today in what seemed to be new condition. There was tape on the box along with the home charger etc.
I have a strange problem. When i plug the phone into the charger the screen gets all jittery and crazy. If I unplug it the screen goes back to normal. I already wiped the phone clean and its still the same.
I will add that the packaging looked different from my original box. I will compare tomorrow. Any ideas?

Ive had this issue with my og epic, never the epic touch. It happened to me when using a 1A HTC charger but not on the 1A blackberry charger. Never had the issue on my epic touch nor have I used the OEM AC adapter. the OEM charger shouldnt be doing that though... I would call them about it asap

Can someone explain something to me.

So when I have my stock 1800mah battery in the phone my charger shows up as USB in the battery stats. It also seems a little touchy when it wants to charge. There shouldn't be anything wrong with the port since I just got the phone Saturday brand new from best buy. The thing that is confusing me when I put my old 1500mah battery from my SGS1 the charger comes up as AC like it should and i have no problem with the charger not wanting to work. Can someone help me out there

You could have a faulty battery, in which some of the cells in the battery may be damaged. How are you attempting to charge your phone? through a usb port on a computer or through an outlet?
Through an outlet.

Yeah most likely its a faulty battery. Manufacture defect

I'll try a different charger Saturday when I get back from my trip and if it still doesn't show up as AC I'll take the battery back to best buy ty

I also have an external charger but an extended life battery acted the same way. It wouldn't charge in the phone. I fully charged it in the external charger then ran the battery in the phone until it shut off. I repeated this a couple more times and now the battery seems to be behaving. It might be worth a try but if it's the only battery you have, then maybe not.
Well I tried using my cousin's charger and it shows up as AC so I'm guessing it's just something with my charger not my battery

Broken charging port

If my usb port is acting up (pull it off of the charger and it still thinks charging) will my two cover the costs of getting it fixed? What will sprint do? Swap the phone, replace the Port?

They may try cleaning it first. Not sure if they will attemp to fix it. They may just replace it. Thats what they did for me on my og epic.

T989D not charging

Recently my wife plugged her phone in for the night to charge it and in the morning it was nearly dead. I figured bad connection so I unplugged and replugged it and showed charging now. A few hours later and it was near the same percentage. It is obviously getting some power. I got it charging slowly last night. It was at 91 when I went to bed. This morning it did not say charging and the battery logs I had on showed it stopped charging twice. The first time it hit 100 and quit charging for about an hour and then restarted. The second time it hit 100 it stopped charging for the night.
Other things I have tried:
Swapped battery with the one in my phone. (also t989d)
Different chargers (4 so far)
Flashing a different rom. (Leaving it on the cm10 nightly that works on my phone for the moment)
Looking for physical or obstruction for the charging port. (None I can see)
Searching the forums. (Doesn't quite match some posts since it does sometimes charge but I am going to pick up a new can of compressed air in case of lint inside.
Anyone with bright ideas?

I have had similar problems with Kindle Fires -- my family has had to have both Fires replaced twice. The problem with them is that the connections to the USB port break. I would think that the same thing could happen to just about any device that uses a micro usb connector.
Have you tried a different wall socket or charging with a computer?

Will try the computer today. All the chargers were plugged into different wall outlets and were tested on different devices.

This is what we are afraid of. We tried charging via the computer and it didn't seem to work.
After a reboot it is slowly charging off the wall outlet with the original charger. Much slower than it should but it is charging.

You need to replace the charging port. if your phone is still under warranty just get it replaced.
Same thing happen to me the part is cheap to replace but you have to be careful when you take apart your phone so you don't damage any of the flex cable connectors.

I've come to the same conclusion. You make it sound easy to do. Is there no soldering etc?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using xda premium
There is soldering and I would take it to a professional to get it replaced if I were you. It will cost a bit more, but at least they "know" what they are doing because your limited experience can easily damage the circuit board reckon it unusable.
Yep. I've done some home soldering in the past but those were all with things that the parts to replace the whole item were under $20. Waiting on a reply from a local shop
