[Q] Connecting my S3 to AT&T data? - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Greetings!
This afternoon I received my AT&T branded S3. A friend signed up for AT&T and wanted to keep his old phone so I purchased the S3 from him.
Upon booting up I am able to connect to the AT&T network, however data services are not working. I noticed that it was connecting to the PTA access point pre-setup on the phone so I tried adding the usual AT&T WAP access point (wap.cingular.com). I have had many "international" phones before so I am accustomed to setting up all of the settings myself. I am stuck here though as I am unable to figure this one out.
I would appreciate any and all help!
Thank you in advance,
Matt

data
i received mine today also. i tried cutting my galaxy s ll sim down and using it. i had not data. so i had to call att and it is a totally different data scheme for the 4g lte. i was on the phone for 45 minutes before all was fixed. i had the old grandfathered unlimited data plan and it was looking bad for a while, but they finally did some checking and over rode the system to modify my current unlimited data plan to work with the new s lll. i have never had a problem with the service i get from att, today was no different, they fixed me up and this phone is sweeeet. so it may be your problem also and have to switch to the new data for the 4g lte.

Solved!
Called AT&T, first level support tried reprovisioning my account (turn off phone, wait 2 minutes, call back), had me setup voicemail and then tried telling me my SIM was not a 4G sim (I cut down my old SIM, by old I mean 3 days old). Eventually got escalated to true tech support, they wanted to reprovision my account again, I let them know we just tried that but I'd be happy to do it again. Lo-and-behold this time it worked!
No change of data plan necessary, I had the 2GB plan from before.

I also had no date, but i just added a new apn and it worked. Try this:
Name: AT&T US HSDPA

OMG
Fedex just dropped my phone!!
Man, this is really super nice looking phone!
I sold my Skyrocket like 2 weeks ago for this. Living with iCrap (iPhone 3GS) for 2 weeks was god awful experience (I gave my iPhone 4 to my wife so..). I'm like in heaven now....
ordered 6/6 premier, blue. bayarea Nocal. It's delivered like 2:15PM.
I hope everyone gets what they want as soon as possible....

Just had a buddy try the wap.cingular settings and it worked.

looking to use my S3 without calling in and changing my phone type. Leaving it at iphone so i can use both with no issues.
Does anybody have the full apn settings? is there a separate one for mms?

You need reprovisioning. PTA is the correct apn And necessary for lte. It will slow down all the way through 4g3g and edge. Mine does.

My dhd has no 3g connection???

I have been using the phone for a couple of days but I didn't realise until now that my phone doesn't have 3g data connection. I noticed when I am outside home, I can't check my gmail and have any access to internet. I am sure I have always have mobile data turned on.
My phone contract has unlimited data plan on three UK, but I am using it on my unlocked dhd from Orange UK.
Can anyone help?.
Many thanks
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Have you put in the correct APN settings for your provider?
Yes, I tried and I see the 3G icon, but I can seem to receive any data. Anyone care to share their apn info on three network see if I got this right.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
I wonder if flashing a new radio and firmware will help?
most probably due to your incorrect APN setting value. Try obtain the right APN setting for the telco line you are using.
is it because I am using a different network phone, so the APN setting of my current network isn't implemented by default, because I didn't have this problem with my iphone 4.
Anyone here is on Three UK can lend me a hand with this?
Finally found a combination that worked, there are quite a few variation out there over the internet.
I can verify this one works for the desire hd:

[Q] Issues. YouTube does not work when on mobile network (3G HSPA). Works on WiFi

I have been wrestling with this issue for some days now. When I connect my Xperia Arc to a Wi-Fi network, absolutely everything works and plays. However, when I am only connected to the mobile 3G network, some apps won’t work. YouTube, Market, Weather, Maps, etc. will just hang there with a blank screen loading. I know the data connection is working when connected to the mobile network because I can use the browser, send and receive emails, sync contacts, etc. I can go to Wikipedia, for instance, and search for any topic I want.
In the particular case of playing videos from YouTube, I have the problem either with the app or if I try to play them directly from the browser on the YouTube site. I can search for the videos, get the thumbnails but it will not play them.
I am running LT15a firmware version 2.3.3. I have flashed back and forth 4 times already between the Rogers branded firmware and the generic north America one. I have tried hard resets (factory) as well. I have played with different settings when defining the APN. I am getting tired of re-entering all the settings over and over trying different things.
My phone is unlocked with a Telus SIM Card.
I will appreciate any help to resolve this.
Cheers,
The correct APN settings for Telus are (validated on android 4.0 ICS):

MCC: 302
MNC: 220
Authentication type: <Not set>
APN type: <Not set>
APN protocol: IPv4
APN enable/disable: checked

This settings were extracted from a Xperia Ray now available through Telus.

try to change apn..reverts

So I have been trying to change the apn to the pta apn and every time my nexus reverts to cingular 410. Any ideas why?
Add a new apn rather than modifying the existing one.
Make sure to hit Menu --> Save after you make your changes (back button doesn't save changes in this case)
Did all that. Added the pta apn saved it then restarted the phone and the phone jumps back to the Cingular 410
Is your SIM/account provisioned for LTE? I don't believe the PTA apn will work if not.

this might be what I have to do. I called customer service and they gave me some crap about loosing unlimited so I have to go into a store to get it done. Maybe it will work then
If you're grandfathered in to the "unlimited plan", changing to the 4G plan should not count as a new plan.... so you shouldn't lose your unlimited.
I was able to "upgrade" to the 4G unlimited plan without issue, but that was just to be provisioned for HSPA+. I just walked into the store and asked for it - got a new SIM and everything. Took all of five minutes, the CSR was very helpful.
It *should* work the same way for LTE though you'll probably have to specifically request LTE. You can get them to use the IMEI off of a Jetstream if necessary.

Thats what I will need the IMEI off of a LTE smartphone, because nothing is changing the scenario here. AT&T wont add LTE provisioning to my account and the apn's wont stick for nothing
If you can get them to provision your line for 4G/HSPA+ (and they should without any problem), you can use the "phone" APN. I got decent results with that. You're never going to actually hit the LTE speeds afforded by the "PTA" APN with the Galaxy Nexus - the only difference will likely be the latency.

i actually have that provision as I came from an SGS2 where do I find that apn?
There's a good list that I referenced at http://www.codemonkeyjava.com/2011/12/08/apn-list-for-galaxy-nexus-for-att/

Add those two APNs, select the "phone" one as the default (little toggle bubble thing), and reboot.
will give it a shot and let you know
switched back to cingular 410 speeds were the same between 5-6k up and 1-2 down and with the cingular 410 mms works flawless

unlocked Galaxy Nexus on t-mobile USA can't MMS

Purchased a Galaxy Nexus HSPA direct from google. I am using it on T-Mobile USA on a family plan I share with my daughter. The plan has no data but includes unlimited text and MMS. (We get by on wifi for our Internet needs).
The problem I have is that my daughter's MyTouch 4g Slide (locked to T-Mobile) has been sending and receiving MMS fine with mobile data turned off. This has always been the case for 6 months running and it has not been when on wifi. However, my brand new Nexus cannot send or receive MMS with mobile data turned off. The only scenario I have to send and receive MMS is by turning on mobile data prior to sending an MMS or before one is received.
My goal is to have my Nexus send and receive MMS without having to turn on mobile data (like the older MyTouch 4g slide).
Our settings are slightly different, so replicating hers is not exactly possible. Below are the details of our devices. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

Ya, I figure I will give going to the store a chance since I can't find the answer anywhere online. However, my situation is slightly different from yours as I do not have a data plan (but do have unlimited MMS in my contract)
I had a similar issue, which I fixed as follows:
Go to the APN settings, hit the menu key and reset to default.
I later found out that having the APN protocol set to ipv6 was an issue, so I got around that by setting up separate APNs with ipv4 for MMS, and ipv6 for data, etc...

I suspect the stock settings send text message via data and wifi connections. To test try sending a text when you are in your wifi area. As you can see, your daughter has 2 different APN setups while you have one for everything.
Me and my wife were in Florida in June and we brought our GSM Galaxy Nexuses with us.
I just walked in a T-Mobile store and purchased two SIMs. We tried one in my phone and it just wouldn't work with data at all... No MMS, no data.
He tried fiddling with APN settings to no avail until I rebooted the phone and then it all just worked and it worked perfectly fine for the next 3.5 weeks that we were there so I can definately say that if they tell you that it won't work because you don't have a T-mobile phone they're incompetent.
So my advice, reset your APN settings and reboot phone then test. If it doesn't work, start comparing APN settings with the other phone you have that works. And always reboot the phone if it doesn't start working immidiately.

lt28at - 3g not working

hi guys,
just got an xperia ion lt28at , 3g is not working on att, added the wap.cingular apn but i do not get a radio button besides it to enable it.
att pta apn is the only one enabled, i am on ics.
any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
The PTA apn is the only one you should have in there. Did you get the phone from at&t or where did you get it from?
Sent from my Sony Xperia™ ion
bought it from another xda member, it's the at&t version of ion, just updated to ICS.
just factory reset the phone, went to add a new apn with the defualt one not enabled, and when i added default att hspa settings to new apn, i did see 4g in the notification bar but as soon as i saved the new apn it was gone and I can't enable the newly added apn.

If you factory reset it or flash the stock at&t ics and have an at&t sim in the phone you do not need to input any apn as it will download the settings for you.
Now if you did not have a LTE plan before getting the ion you will need AT&T to change your data plan to an LTE one. This does not cost anything extra and will not change anything other than allow you to use LTE. Even if you won't be using LTE in your area you need the LTE plan.

That looks right. Might be an issue where you need an LTE enabled plan. I know when I had the Lumia 900 I couldn't do data till I got the LTE plan on my account even though I wasnt iin an LTE area.

The LT28at is easy to root. Just use bin4ry's .bat file after manually installing the backup & restore app
Ok Update on my data issue's , I flashed the generic international firmware to my Xperia Ion the Lt28h , and doing so I was able to enter all four APN's from a Motorola Atrix 4G.
Once I entered the APN's it showed my data working and now I am working on non LTE data , all four APN's I used are entered below , thank's guy's for all the help.
