Bootloader unlock - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I've finally decided to unlock my bootloader so I've been reading a few threads about it but I want to be sure that I'll do it right.
I want to use this method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=12873655
But since I'm on a branded phone I understood that I'll have to flash a generic Rom first to allow the unlocking to be done, am I correct?
I do understand that I'll lose the DRM's and stuff and that while on an unlocked bootloader I cannot use official SE programs (PCC & SEUS) because it will brick the phone correct?
After the unlocking is done I'll still have a fw installed right?
And finally, after unlocking bootloader I'll flash roms in flash mode and kernels and baseband on flashboot mode right?
Thanks for the help guys!

[Q]lt15i 4.1b LCK BL help

Hi all.
So I have an lt15i with rooted
4.1.b/ 4.0.4 locked bootloader.
The provider is rogers Canada.
As far as I know this provider has made it impossible for me to unlock
My bootloader. But I have also been reading that I just need recovery mode to unlock it. Thanks to the new cwm installer I can now get recovery and have backed up and flashed a ui mod.
So what I am asking is under these circumstances can I unlock my bootloader?.
If so how would I go about trying without bricking or loosing cwm backup?
Sent from my LT15i using XDA
Well I think so that you can't unlock your boot loader ! And so if you do,you can install any kernel to retain Cwm backup or install from auto installer again!
Ok. What I'm mainly asking is I have a locked BL and most methods I have seen to unlock BL needs recovery mode. Normally I cannot enter recovery but the cwm auto install allows me to enter recovery now. So basically what else does unlocking the BL need beside recovery mode?

Bump..
Any thoughts. I don't wanna go into trying it blind.

Strictly speaking it's the other way round, you need your bootloader unlocked to enter recovery. Recovery lets you flash roms, not kernels, and to unlock you either use the Sony site(official) or testpoint(unofficial).

I believe it is flash mode that allows you to flash roms. And recovery(blue light) allows BL unlock then I can flash kernels.
I can both get into flash mode and have 4.0.4 rooted witch I flashed.
But normally booting with vol down does nothing but after cwm install I can boot holding gold down to enter recovery where cwm sits and am able to flash zips and update.zips.
Now so far this seems I can flash an update zip to unlock my bootloader. I am wondering if thia will brixk the device because I am tricking it because in my service menu it says BL unlock no.
If no one has a clue I will try it out.

Im having custom kernal and root...
Should I have to remove them aswell...
Thanx for replying.....
Geez people, you should research before this.
Here's a thread in the General section with How to install and root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1683957
That's for Stock ROM and Kernel.
If you wish, you can flash the ROM, then use fastboot to install a custom Kernel from the development thread which most likely will have CWM that allows you to flash RootXperia.zip and that's about it.
Unlocked bootloader makes everything easier.

I recomend u flash a stock GB firmware first, for example firmware .42, and then u relock the bootloder. After that, update, and the unlock the bootloader again

If you have an unlocked bootloader, why not just flash the 4.0.4 ICS using Flashtool? There's no point in locking your bootloader, then updating and again unlocking it.
Just flashing the .ftf is much simpler and doesn't waste your time.

help to root sim unlocked arc s LT18i

hiii developers
i m new to this community and want to ask u that i have purchased a Sim Unlocked Sony Erricson Arc S..
and after using stock rom for around two months now i want to root it and install custom roms like CM9...
so i just want to ask that after rooting and installing custom rom my SIM UNLOCK remains unlocked or will it get locked again...
and i have to follow these links to root my phone (as its sim unlocked) or i have to take some precautions...???
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1683957
thanx in advance
most probably your sim will remain unlocked...if not, you can re-unlock it again....
could you elaborate whether you have an unlocked bootloader....
if you have, you can directly flash a fxp120/130 kernel, boot into recovery and install cm9 directly without having to root your phone (only if your phone is already on 4.0.4)
hit thanks if i helped....

noo i dnt have unlocked bootloader... n my phone is on android 2.3...
Though you have SIM unlocked phone. you will need to unlock bootloader to install custom roms.
You can unlock the boot loader for free by following Sony walkthrough available on the web site just search unlock bootloader Sony phones in Google and follow guides very carefully.
Or you use jinx13 xda member who does this but it's a paid for service.

go thru sony bootloader unlock website.it will help you in unlocking your bootloader......(if you do it via paid service [test point method] then you will not be able to relock it again)
later download 4.0.4 and flash it on your phone using flashtool...
then, download the cm9 rom and paste it in your sd card
then, download fxp120/130 kernel and flash it on your phone
then, boot into recovery and flash cm9 with the usual steps...
check this out it is a super thread...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1653188
hit thanks if i helped...

[Q] few questions about lt18i

I have a limited time to root an arc s and i need few answers please:
1 if the bootloader is locked ,it is any chance to make sim unlock?
2 i already made root but i don.t know how you flash custom kernel or wifi modules(install from zip?)... in which mode should be phone putt? ( i tried with flashtool in fastboot mode and doesn.t rebbot via adb or fastboot)
you can't flash custom kernels or wifi modules with a locked bootloader
you should unlocked the bootloader. it really is easier when you're going to install custom rom or kernel
1.your sim will still be locked
2.unlock bootloader through unlockbootloader(dot)sonymobile(dot)com. you may relock if you want through this method.
How I unlock bootloader? I put the code *#*#78... and say bootloader unlock:no
then the only way is through testpoint. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1551494&highlight=bootloader
but this is way risky.
What is your firmware version? .587 can be unlocked as far as i know.

Firmware has nothing to do with the bootloader.

[Q] [Newbie]Troubles reading ftf files

Hi,
I'm new to rooting and flashing custom ROMs, so any help will be greatly appreciated
I'm using an orange xperia lt15i, that I've decided to root and on which I want to run CyanogenMod 9.1
Here's what I've come up with :
flashing a generic ftf to debrand my phone, in orded to unlock the bootloader
install recovery
unlock boot loader
flash CM
The catch is, flashtool (0.9.16.1) can't read any of the ftf files I put in the firmware directory..any idea ?
Did I get the steps in the right order, is there any way to achieve this at all ?
Thanks

maybe file is wrong download here a new one. this works 100% LINK
also use normal flashtool not 64bit.
install drives from flastool install dir/drivers for your phone
install android sdk (just leave all like it is & press install)
now to the process:
flashing a generic ftf to debrand my phone, in orded to unlock the bootloader i dont think this is need. on sony bl unlock site theres mentioned how to get in service menu & look if bootloader unlock allowed: yes or no. if yes just proceed. any way, CM requires flashng stock ics ftf b4 so do it after unlock...
install recovery no need if you flash CM's kernel later it was recovery built in (all custom)
unlock boot loader
flash cm kernel via fastboot
flash CM dont forget gapps! (google apps)
