Just an FYI, especially for those who upgraded to stock ICS, Swype Beta just released a new update and it's very nice.
http://beta.swype.com/
This relieves the issue of the bouncing text screen too, so no more boggled eyeballs while swyping! Also it's much more accurate.
Did you remove the stock version first? Or, did the beta install cleanly over the stock version as an upgrade?
With the new beta you can install it along side the non beta Swype. You don't need to remove the old one first.
Thanks OP downloading now.
Edit: Seems nice so far! YES! No more bouncing! Only issue so far that simply requires a change of habit...in the old Swype if you touch the backspace button it backspaces one character, and if you hold down the back button it backspaces one word. With this new one, touch the backspace button once it backspaces one word, and holding it down sends it into continuous backspace mode. Not a huge biggie considering the improvements!
Installation was clean, easy and flawless. Just needed to disable the ROM based version as the input default after installation.
Thanks!
Installation was good just installed over the old sywpe now as far as the backspace button goes I can delete 1 word at a time

Another thing I have noticed is that it has a sort of pseudo spell checker when it does not know a word it highlights it in red. I do like the old way of backspace deleting.
Also, maybe it's just because the ROM I am using is more responsive than my old one, but the Dragon Naturally Speaking thing seems to work much better.
The only thing that I don't like is that the swyping is slightly less fast than it used to be, but still completely usable.
Stupid installer won't take my password. Says login failed/invalid password even though I know for a fact it's correct.

Yea I do miss the old delete where it deletes each word one by one not the first word then each letter one by one, it's a but confusing but does make a bit of sense

Agree the Dragon does respond faster than previous beta's. The lag on the swyping was annoying at first but I have gotten used to it.

I'm not impressed with this update at all. It looks nicer but they keep changing things on us. Why do they keep moving the alternate keys/symbols around!? When tapping a text field, as the keyboard pops up, the screen flashes some weird graphics glitch for a split second. The new delete method is laggy and freezes. Overall, it seems to be slower and more glitchy than the previous version.
I've been using this for a bit and while it is nicer and it fixed some things it also messes up if you go over the space bar so I now end up deleting a ton extra... if they fix this it would help a lot and also the auto correct is a bit off and they give you no option to choose for speedy or correction like before

I have just upgraded from the HTC evo4g. I firstly rooted, then installed smart keyboard pro. I need a keyboard that types English as well as Korean, and smart keyboard pro has been my favorite so far.
The only problem is, the keyboard lags like crazy. If I type quickly, a whole bunch of letters gt skipped. For example, if I type "Mary had a little lamb" quickly, I get "Mry hd littl amb." Sometimes, some letters start becoming symbols as if I had held the key down to get a symbol.
I tried downloading other keyboards. Something called Multiling keyboard looked promising, with a very high rating. But it lags just as much with the same results.
Right now I am using google ime for korean using something called "Korean keyboard" from the market. I hate this keyboard but at least it doesnt lag so damn much.
Does anyone have any recommendations for a good multi language keyboard that wont skip letters? I mean, most multilanguage keyboards lag like hell on this phone. They also seem to not be multi-touch enabled, even when they are...
Please help me out, I am so disappointed by this small (but critical!) annoyance. Thanks.

My fav keyboard is the gingerbread keyboard. Its multi-touch and should be multilanguage (i think at least)

Thanks for the suggestion supdawg. Yeah I like the gingerbread keyboard but unfortuneately it doesnt support Korean input.
I actually found something called Go Keyboard and it seems promising so far. The problem with it is that the spacebar will only work if I press it two times everytime I want to space. Lol...

That sounds like something that could be fixed in the settings.
I have noticed this too. It seems the Evo4G has the best digitizer I've experienced - my ET4G consistently lags like yours. I have to type super slow or else it will only display a few letters. I've found Thumb Keyboard works better. I don't know about additional languages though.

Try "Thumb Keyboard 4"
I type really fast and this keyboard seems to keep up with me the best. Not sure if it support Korean though
If you have the hepatic feed back on i found that adds to the lag i turn the sound and haptic off and it works fine
Sent from my MoPho!
Try "go keyboard", i think it has chinese, try it and c how it is, doesnt lag for me one bit.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Yeah I have my haptic feedback and sound off. I hate haptic feedback anyway. The spinny thing in the phone that makes the phone vibrate, that thing saps your battery. Also my thumbs tickle if the haptic is on.
Anyway, yeah I tried to Go Keyboard. It still lags, but nowhere near as much as smart keyboard pro. It seems to be the best so far, but the only annoying thing is that there are no symbols above the letters. Also it's very hard to make fine adjustments if I mistype some word. I can't simply take the cursor where the error is and delete each letter, I have to delete starting from the end.
Why is this phone so laggy with the inputs? Sometimes I feel like there MUST be some options somewhere, regarding the touchscreen sensitivity etc... Or, maybe we have to use terminal emulator to change some values somewhere. I swear this phone sometimes feels like it doesn't support multitouch. type 2 letters really quick, and only 1 of them inputs. What the...hell.
I have the same pet peave with the lag issue. I don't know about multi language support, but my favorite one is Better Keyboard 8 available in the Amazon appstore. Its not perfect but its the best I've seen so far with being able to handle fast typing. The keys are spaced well and the are elongated slightly vertically and seem ideal for fast accurate typing. Give it a try and let me know how you like it.

Yeah dude I would recommend you try Lostkernel, but first try Thumb Keyboard. It's the only keyboard that doesn't lag.
I was going to recommend SwiftKeyX, but there's no Korean support. I have noticed a bit of keyboard lag (words with the same letter twice) but it's prediction and word completion have always overcome the issue. Perhaps worth looking into if/when they add Asian languages.
I have thumb keyboard, and generally like it. But it (along with other keyboards I've tried) has the weird issue that it starts out great with the auto-correct suggestions, then it stops suggesting until the entire word has been typed. My wife is experiencing this oddity as well on her ET4G. Anyone else?
Chris, thanks for the suggestion to use the Lost kernel. I will give it a try and report back here how it works out.

So, I'm an avid fan of SwiftKey. I think it even trumps Swype (although a combination of the two that allowed swipes and key taps would be roxorz!). But my question is:
Do you think ICS keyboard (with supposed blindtype infrastructure) is better than SwiftKey?
i used the stock keys for 3 days. .
i switch back to swiftkey x.
i dont like the stock keys. they respond to slow if you type fast.
I loved swiftkey on my Inspire 4g, but I think the ics keyboard is better. I can type faster and the auto correct is more accurate.

Yeah, they say some nonsense about not wanting to interfere with predictions inherent on other sites, but 1. Other site predictions suck, and 2. They often aren't even there!
Let me have SwiftKey predictions always that are based on my history and I'll be just fine...
SwiftKey for sure.
I've been using swiftkey since I got my nexus and I like it a lot. I used swype on my previous phone and I can't decide if I want to go back to swype or not now.
Stock Keyboard. The ICS keyboard has much better prediction. Plus, the stock Switftkey themes just don't cut it for me.
Yeah I've been using stock since I got the phone. I heard so many brags about it, but I think it's time to reload Swiftkey X. Been using that since it came out of beta, I bought it the first day. My only beef are the skins as well.
Used only swift key on my droid Eris, and I haven't even loaded it onto my nexus .the thing I miss the most is the swipe to delete a word ...I do that frequently lol

I used swift key on my transformer for the split keyboard... and it worked awesome EXCEPT I hated the fact that once it auto corrects, its done.
With stock android and thumb keyboard, if auto correct changes a word, you can hit backspace and it'll return to its unaltered form. This is great when I use an abbreviation and it tries to guess my word and screw me up, I just hit back and boom.
Swift key wouldn't do that. I also love the prediction of the ICS keyboard. I love how it underlines misspelled words in red (which may just be ICS).
I only own the tablet version, which makes me mad. 2 different versions which means I have to buy it twice? Lame. Thumb Keyboard replaced it. It feels like stock but had tablet split keyboard options... and themes.

Stock, I managed to type faster when I use the stock key. better correction, better prediction, better UI...
Stock is great in all regards for me. Accuracy, speed, prediction, corrections. Not to mention voice typing and aesthetics.
Stock with autocorrection turned up to very aggressive is awesome.
The voice diction on stock is awesome (how did this not get more publicity with 4.0???) but I miss having quick access to long press symbols and the gestures, mostly swipe to delete word. I also like that I can just restore the app in between ROM flashes and have my dictionary remain intact.
Stock here. I bought SwiftKey when it was 10c just so that if I ever changed my mind it was there, but I haven't even installed it on my Nexus yet!
Cant front, autocorrection on the stock keyboard sucks majorly. Is there an option to turn up the level of auto correction or do you guys know of a better keyboard? Im thinking of installing the LatinIME gingerbread keyboard. Also, i cant seem to find the option to turn off haptic feedback on tge stock keyboard.
What do you guys reccomend?
settings > language and input > hit "default Engilsh (US) - Android Keyboard)" > hit "Configure input methods" > hit the "settings icon" next to "android keyboard.
In here, there are lots of options. Vibrate on keypress, sound on keypress, etc. If you click on "Auto Correction" it has different settings. By default it is on "modest". There is "aggressive" and "very aggressive". There is also advanced settings at the bottom.
i am not sure how you type, but i have no issue with the auto correction of the stock keyboard.
in fact, i am well impressed with it as well. as there is some sort of blind type DNA in the stock keyboard, that is for sure.
I've had no problems with it so far and I'm a novice when it comes to typing on an Android phone (Even though I've been using them for 5 years) auto correct is doing its jobs worth for me.
my only issue is that I keep hitting the "b" button instead of a space because of the larger screen... and 80% of the time it fixes that automatically.
The ICS keyboard is very good IMO. The only alternative I would recommend is SwiftKeyX but I didn't like it. It was too aggressive and screwed me up more then my typing.
Seriously, are you typing without looking at the screen? I've misspelled some words pretty bad and auto correct hasn't gotten it wrong once yet for me. Not sure what you're doing...

Sometimes lol, but no seriously, i like auto capitalization of "i" and auto punctuation sometimes. I like the aesthetics of the keyboard but simple stuff like correctjng these coomon words that im tryjnh to type here and tge keyboard doesny aytocorrect. I think i type pretty fast in landscape so id like for mg simple mistakes to be corrected so im not slowed down much. I also have pretty decent sized hands so maybe that plays in as well.
Okay, i just turned off the haptic feedback and turned up autocorrection to aggressive. Howevrr, i jusg notice that there was an optkon to show suggested word corrections. I made sure it was on. However, as i tgpe no suggestions appear like tgey did on the gingerbread keyboard. Also, you can, see my mispelled words. None autocorrections were made on "aggressive" setting. Do yiu guys get auto correction suggestion popups?
I'm having same issues, a lot of words end up garbled nonsense as well. Must mean I really suck at typing on that thing but I am definitely quite a bit slower than on real keyboards like palm pre and G1.
Tgiz sentence is tyoed with autocorrection on very aggresive. As you can see i am sgill making manh mistakes and none are beinh corrected. Not one time has a suggestion popped uo and corrected my mistakes. Tge is not corrcted to "the" as yiu can still see! Am i foing somethijg wrong?

Is your autocorrect just not working at all??
Stock keyboard would be a lot better if it was bigger. Like compare to the wp7 KB on the htc titan and androids is pathetically small. I think I'm going to take a stab at making a wp7esk KB for android...yea all current options are that bad IMO. Swype is to small, thumb KB is right size but is to slow. auto correct does not work at all places.
you can define certain type of field it is to disable auto correct.
for example, when you type in password field, auto correction is disabled by default.
in browser, its set to the mode where there is no auto correction.
Swiftkey is much better keyboard but the only problem I have is the voice input with swiftkey isnt native. They have their own processing engine that returns 3 options. The google one types as you speak.
I had issues with hitting letters instead of space and it got too annoying. SwiftKey auto predict and customization is so much better.
I tried SwiftKey X as an alternative, but thought it was trying to be a tad too smart for its own good *shrugs
I've always used Better Keyboard leading up to getting my GN, however have not felt the need to upgrade from the stock ICS keyboard as yet, its doing an A+ job imo.
Looking at your passages, it looks as though auto correct isn't even turned on lol,
I can see the mistakes you're making and i make the same mistakes in my texts, emails and tweets, however ICS keyboard corrects all for me just fine
Used to use only swift key, but once I got my nexus, I stuck with the ics keyboard and just put it to aggressive and I'm liking it much better, although it was great for a stock one, aggressive is MUCH better

I'm surprised the standard Galaxy Nexus / ICS doesn't have a new line / enter key.
Are there any keyboards that are very similar to the stock keyboard, but instead of a smiley key it has an enter button?
I really need to use new lines in SMS messages. :C
Thumb keyboard is what I use on my tablet because its similar to stocks method of word correction but is more customisable in its layouts. I use stock on my nexus though.

Well swiftkeyX learns from the way you type, so if you end up typing any different way, it'll try to "push" you in the direction it expects you to be typing. You get a more narrowly focused autocorrect that helps for your every day 100 character tweets and SMS, but hurts in your forum posts (or other long form typing).
I still always wonder why people still use "tap" keyboards when there are swipe versions
I've personally used Swype on my last 3 Android phones and i can't envision me using anything else. It's so simple, accurate and bloody quick.

This.
I have used swype on my past few Android devices and was always SURE that it was 10x faster than any 'tap' keyboard could ever be. Upon the discovery of Swiftkey X however, I was proven very wrong. Swiftkey is incredible fast and accurate. Yes it needs optimization for the GNex but still, it's faster than anything out there at the minute.

I use ICS themed swype from here: http://jbthemes.com/djdarkknight/daswypethemes/

I really dig SwiftkeyX. Predictions improved a lot when I linked it to my facebook and gmail accounts. Never could get the hang of swype but maybe I should give it another try.

Perhaps true in the sense that it is still a keyboard but the size, colour and styling are both different - not radically, but somewhat.
As a matter of interest, you did enable Swype Beta, didn't you? For whatever reason the beta and the original both show as installed. You won't see the new look unless you enable the beta.
Can someone report the actual version number of this please, as I'm not sure if this is the version I already have installed
I have: 3.26.92.38965.38973.10637.I9100
Just installed it, it feels... bigger, the new Swype. I'd rather it be slightly smaller.
Also I noticed some new effects when you let go (it like shrinks and fades out) after swyping and it also seems to run a bit faster.
My version is 1.0.3.5809
Interestingly though the package name is nuance and not swype.
From the manifest.xml:
HTML:
<manifest android:versionCode="5809" android:versionName="1.0.3.5809" package="com.nuance.swype.input"
This must be their first release since acquiring swype.

How can you enable handwriting? I choose it from options but I couldn't find to run it.
All in all this is an awful release in my opinion.
Ability to delete words in the original dictionary is a HUGE improvement, and I also love the option to have popups.
But then I noticed that words you just typed get erased immediately if you press backspace, but I just though well, I guess I can get used to that even though it's kind of a stupid change to make.
Then I noticed that backspace now erased letter by letter instead of words by word.
THEN I noticed that words get auto-added, meaning that every time you type out a captcha or feel like randomly saying something like "wazzaaaaaaa" to a friend, you'll involuntarily be getting those words added to your dictionary!
AND THEN I noticed that you can't add the "" and the "" smileys to your dictionary. A feature which I usually use at least once per sms!
I don't see why they feel like they have to decide for us whether we want to erase word by word or letter by letter, or whether we want words to auto-add or not!?
Also, I've been swyping this entire post, and making a capital i is near impossible, and a capital A IS impossible. Also the marker seems to have a life of it's own most of the time. Horrible release.
Back to the last Swype beta for me, good that I had a backup...
I just hope they bring a new beta with the old features soon before this one expires.

Hi all,
I recently moved from Stock-rom (in which I had a full version of swype - 3.26 I think). Is there a way that I can extract my Swype from the Stock-rom and move it to the custom rom? (I have Nandroid for the stock).
I've tried to backup with TB in the stock, and restore in the custom but it didn't work. I also tried to copy the data\app files & data\dalvik-cache & data\data\com.android.swype.inputmethod & of course - the apk.
It all didn't work.
Any advices?
Thanks.

I've tried to backup with TB in the stock, and restore in the custom but it didn't work. I also tried to copy the data\app files & data\dalvik-cache & data\data\com.android.swype.inputmethod & of course - the apk.
It all didn't work.
Any advices?
Thanks.

You have to copy the lib file as well as the app from the /system/app and system/lib to the respective folders I think

Thanks.
I've tried to do that.
At system\lib, originally, I had nothing that relates to Skype.
However, at Data\Data\com.swype.android.inputmethod\, I had several folders. One of them was ..\Lib, and the lib file was there.
No other place it was originally placed.
Any advices?
and another question, if I may...
where are the language packs files stored?
I love the new app but DAMN ITS A MEMORY HOG!
Old Swype on my device used 12.24MB
New Swype plus mandatory SwypeConnect app uses 38.2MB :silly:
