Hey guys I finished painting my Gnex and thought i'd post pictures!
I used automotive grade Duplicolor adhesion promoter and colors.
I will probably be offering custom paint jobs as a service. Still have to work out the details.
Back and housing are a metal with flakes blue and buttons are a glossy black.
All the buttons work perfectly, no sticky feeling. Paint also bends and doesn't crack - see last pic.

I have the Gnex from Sprint. I couldn't find any info on disassembling the Sprint version (all are manufactured differently) However, it was pretty much the same as the Verizon version. It took a little bit of effort to pry the screen away from the housing, but it was fairly simple, only 6 small Phillips screws. The hardest part was removing the quick charge gold pins. They were too small to mask so I had to remove them. There was a small plastic piece holding them all in place. Very gently, I was able to pry it off. I'd imagine if you break the little pins holding it on, it would be a simple super glue fix. Other than that, easiest phone to take apart so far.

Just out of curiosity how come you didn't paint the inside of the housing?

Usually you want to avoid painting things that move. In this case the tabs from the back would scratch the inside. The paint creates a ridge which may not allow things to reconnect properly. Same goes for the battery slot, if you paint in there, the tabs that slide to fit the battery right might be too tight and it wont fit.
Plus no one looks under there

I'm looking for a matte replacement battery door. I hate the glossy feel of the SGSIII, it's too slippery, and I know I'm going to drop it if I don't do something about it. At the same time, I'd rather not use a cover which adds bulk. Do replacement battery doors exist yet?
So far, I've only found metal (kills NFC, impedes GPS and cell reception) and fake leather doors.
Until a nice dark blue or black rubber coated door shows up, I'm making do with the original Samsung clear slim cover - it barely adds bulk (still fits in car docks etc) and has more grip than the original cover (made from wet soap from what i can tell). There's a thread with pictures of it in this forum.
edit: typos.
Just do what I did with a glossy Speck case for iPhone, when I had one.
Get a sponge for dish washing, and instead of soap, use toothpaste and "wash" the back cover. After 2 minutes you have a nice DIY matte cover
Just get a rock case. It's feels like it is barely there and offers a great feel.

Just got mine today and it looks lovely goes well with the white HOX. The microfiber screen flap is not that bad at all its a light grey and looks well. The combination of white, black and grey looks good.
It feels like and oozes in class.
Comes with a screen protector as well slightly small fit the sp but bright and clear.
Overall I love this case will see how it fares.

My friend just got the S3 and I saw him last night. His phone had this cover on it: http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Galax...ds=Samsung+Protective+Flip+Cover

I it looks sick in person, I figured they MIGHT have one for the Nexus being from Samsung and all, but I've not seen one that was the same (I did find a few flip case ones, but nothing as slick as the one for the S3. Maybe I'm not looking in the right place? I figured I'd have seen one by now if they had them, but who knows.

I almost got the rock case. But then I realized that battery life would drop significantly seeing that it covers the notification led.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
the notification led uses barely any battery and you could cut a hole out with an exacto knife
Maybe I'm missing something here... Why would your battery be reduced by covering the notification LED? I fail to see how this affects the battery.
And plus, isn't the LED "covered" in a sense, when it is in your pocket? Am I the only one finding this a strange statement?
BTW, I do not mean to come by as rude or disrespectful I just don't understand....

That doesn't make sense. If that was his concern, he'd just open the case and see if the light was blinking or not much like he'd do if there was no case.
If I'm going through the trouble of opening the case, I'm not gonna wait to see the led. I'll still turn on the screen. That would be the battery consumer, turning it on more frequently

I like this kind of cases but don't like the leather battery cover
i do not want to use a traditional case on my s3. i love the look and feel of the slim phone but i am worried about getting scratches on it in my pocket. my question about leather pouches is this: is this for ladies purses or do men use these too? can't have my wife making fun of me
There is nothing wrong with a guy using a leather case at all. Indiana Jones carried a satchel. Haha. All jokes side, leather cases do make it look nice, but I don't like the added step of flipping it open. If your wife gives you grief about it, a strong backhand should do the trick. Haha just jokes.

Common sense would say if you're going to do this, you should take a fine grain sandpaper and lightly go over the entire back before you plasti dip it. If it's like any other synthetic dip, it will adhere 10x's better over time, if it has some texture to grab onto...
Unless it chemically fuses to the hyperglazed surface...it will eventually start to peel...one would think.
Well I did the same to my Gnex and the plastidip came off from the edges after a few days.
Then went ahead a did a full paint job :0

Common sense would say if you're going to do this, you should take a fine grain sandpaper and lightly go over the entire back before you plasti dip it. If it's like any other synthetic dip, it will adhere 10x's better over time, if it has some texture to grab onto...
Unless it chemically fuses to the hyperglazed surface...it will eventually start to peel...one would think.

Oh yeah of course it would make it stay much longer i agree, but the point of using plastidip is that it doesnt affect the surface your putting it on AT ALL. And that it is easily removable and cheap....comes off? Reapply.

This! I did it with the intention of removing it later once I find the right case that I like. I had left over plasti dip so it didn't cost me anything. But tbh I think I really like it and might make it permanent . Probably gonna throw on clear on top to make it more durable.
