Even after so many leaks, it seems like samsung engineers are not able to make the stock browser do text wrap, is it possible to extract the Evo 4g LTE and install it on our phone as it works perfectly on that phone.
I don't think so as it would be a sense system apk. If someone were to take the time to decompile the apk and make the necessary changes it might work. Dolphin hd is a very nice web browser, and it's free on the market.

Technically, it's possible. But without heavily modifying it to remove the Sense parts, you'll be left with a minimally functioning browser. Better off using a 3rd party one. You can use a custom launcher to change the icon if that's what bothers you. There's literally thousands of icon packs throughout the web.

Thank you, what bothers me is not the icon, but the Auto Fit ( wrap) text option, working in EL29, and not working in any of ICS leaks...If I install opera, it works in Opera , so I am sure its Samsung Issue..Makes me doubt samsung's team's expertise, and makes me lean more towards Evo LTE

pull the AOSP browser from cm9 and use something like file manager/root explorer to move it to the system/app folder.. change permissions and try that one, i use it and i think text wrap works pretty well for most websites. plus the extended quick controls are money.

download attachment- From Darch's CM9(if there are any issues with posting it here, please lemme know and i'll delete it)
open file manager - hit menu soft key, select settings, scroll to bottom and check root explorer and mount system folders
hit back key, long press on the browser apk you downloaded and hit copy, hit up twice (or enough times till the folder selected is "/") , select system->app
rename "secbrowser.apk" to secbrowser.bak or whatever you like, paste the copied browser, long press on it and select permissions, in the second column deselect group/others. hit menu softkey->settings-> turn off root explorer
if all went well, you should now have the aosp browser in your app drawer
if you dont like, and want to revert changes... just go back and rename secbrowser to apk and delete (or rename the browser.apk->bak) the one you pasted earlier

Yes that is what I wanted...give me some time I will install EL29 take a screen shot and then install ICS an take a screen shot and will let you know...I am surprised that it works on EVO LTE out of the box and does not even after samsung guys working or not working on it for so long...There are a few things like this which I am using to decide which phone to buy next SG3 or EVO LTE as I measure the support and response of the manufacturer by these kind of user issues and consistency they provide.
EL29 vs ICS FF text auto wrap
here I am posting my screen shots...
ICS screen shots
ICS does not even allow pinch zoom..so not sure how to explain...but then that is also the main point...how can i stop pinch zooming suddenly only on this phone?
Have u tried ICS browser or ICS browser + from the playstore? Both are the stock browser but modified, they work well for me but I don't use tw ICS leaks I'm using AOkP

if you have a text editer app you can copy it to sdcard edit it and then copy it back to the origonal folder.
some examples Ted; Openoffice; notepad (the app) and many other available on market
Just use a file explorer (I like root explorer) and you can mount /system as r/w. Just long press the file and edit in text viewer. Root explorer even saves the original with a .bak.

+1. Root explorer is the way to go. It's worth the few bucks, IMO. I use it for SO MANY things, I'd go bonkers without it.
Thanks, so far I'm managing using ghost, but I may bite the bullet and get root explorer. For this edit job though I was able to use ghost to copy the file th the card, edit it, and copy back. It didn't change the buttons in the notification bar tho. Either Miks uses a different file or the lockscreen mod I flashed causes the buttons to be independent of that file. Not sure which... have to do some more reading I guess lol it never ends.

I've never used ghost before, but I used Miks for a while, and successfully changed the pulldown notifications by adding a widget.txt to system/customize. I'm not sure about with ghost, but I know that with Root Explorer, you need to be sure that the Permissions are set correctly, there are two boxes that you need to check. It didn't work for me on Mik's Rom until I changed those permissions. You may need to do the same using ghost, but I'm not sure how, as I've never used that.
Yep that's exactly what I had to do too. I didn't realize user read permission was unchecked. After fixing that I'm all set.

Nice, glad you got it all ironed out.
What can be edited???
Hey I was just wondering if the colors can be edited here as well??? I originally edited mine with root explorer (if you copy and paste back all you have to do to get it to work is reboot btw) same if you just modify it but i suppose setting permissions is all that the reboot does for it anyhow...
Let me be a little more detailed maybe someone can push me towards a different post or what not. I am using B-Rom 1.3 on Samsung Intercept DL05 the power widget is white on the notification bar... I want it black with green icons and im trying to figure this out but as now i cant even figure out how to get rid of the widget. i was going to use widgetsoid I hear that does the job but with the widget already there widgetsoid was worthless... so i thought since i made changes to which widgets there are on the screen using the system/customize/widget.txt maybe i could change the colors from here... Hmmm??? Any ideas thoughts or advice would be helpful... Yes I know Im a noob but im not completely illiterate here... Just having a rough time searching for an answer so thanks in advance for any help on this idea...
I know I'm not the first one to post all of these things, but I wanted to make a concise and easy place for people to find ICS fixes. If you think you came up with something, I will be glad to give you credit.
Fix Chrome Beta
Are you getting a message saying that Chrome isn't working because you don't have Android 4.0 or above on your ICS ROM? Well, there's an easy fix. I originally found this on RootzWiki, but I wanted to make a detailed guide for you guys.
1) Download root file manager of your choosing (I recommend Root Explorer).
2) Navigate to System.
3) Long press on the build.prop file.
4) Select Open With, then Text Editor.
5) Find the line that starts with "ro.build.id" (It should be the 2nd or 3rd line)
6) Change whatever it says after the = sign to "IML74K"
7) Hit menu, then save changes.
8) Reboot.
Enjoy your working Chrome Browser!
Fix YouTube Streaming Over 3G
Simply start playing the YouTube video, then click HQ in the bottom left corner. The video will take time to load and use more data, but will work fine!
Fix Minus Not Showing Files on Your Phone
Scroll all the way down to the bottom of the screen and select "Full Site." You can now see all the files.
Fix Camera Starting on Black Screen
*This may break front camera on Aeroevan's build*
Download this and either push it to system/app with adb. Or, use root explorer to copy it there, then set permissions to rw--r-r--. Then, reboot.
Fix Front Camera Taking Messed up Pics in Aeroevan's Latest Beta
This has worked for me in the past, but it is a huge pain. Every time you want to take a picture with the front facing camera, clear the data for the camera app in manage applications.
Fix Soft Keys not Lighting Up
Toggle Auto Brightness in Display Settings.
If there are any other things people want added, I will do my best to add them.
Big update to the OP and thread title change.

Please excuse this question if it's a bit noobish, but how exactly do I do this in the ICS rom? There's no clear "Manage Applications", and when I go to Apps in the settings, Camera doesn't show up on any of those lists. Any tips?
You go to system settings, apps, scroll the list of categories to the right, and select all, then find camera, click on it, and click clear data.
A big thanks to all!
Thanks very much.

Hi. Im wondering if there is a modified gallery apk floating around. I really hate picasa, with a passion. Even if it isnt the 3D gallery, I dont care. When I remove the gallery and use a third party viewer app, we cant set lock screen wallpapers. Thanks!
SOLVED
Under Accounts and Sync|Google, uncheck the Sync Picasa Web Albums box and they wont show up in the Gallery.
My fav picture viewing app that I bring with me to every rom I run is QuickPic. Its super small and fast and does everything I want it to, including setting homescreen and lockscreen pics.
Check it out: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.alensw.PicFolder&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5hbGVuc3cuUGljRm9sZGVyIl0.
If you're referring to the fact that your email auto checks for new mail every 30 min. you can go into your email settings and set the frequency of checking email to "Never".

Remove the stock gallery and you can not set lock screen wallpapers, even with quikpic. Which Ive used on all of my devices. Looking to remove the picasa sync option altogether which you cant do unless you remove the 3d gallery, but then you cant set lock screen wallpapers. Hence the search for a modified stock gallery.
SOLVED
I've never seen my email app use any inordinate amount of battery life as a result of it running in the background nor have I ever read a post of how someones stock email client is draining batt life. Is that whats happening to you?
And to avoid the issue of setting wallpapers with other apps, just don't remove the stock gallery app and the 3rd party apps you use should set wallpapers just fine. If you don't like the stock app, don't use it. But to remove it altogether sounds like its leading to problems.
Not sure what you mean by remove Picasa sync option altogether. Just uncheck the box and its done, no more syncing, or are you referring to removing the menu enrty/option altogether under Accounts and Sync|Google.
If so I guess I'll go now. It sounds like you want dev help from someone willing to work on code for you. Thats waaay outta my league.

I modified the stock Gallery apk so that I wouldnt have the "Sync Picasa" option under the accounts in "Accounts & Sync".
I really do not like having that option in there, so I solved my problem.
I have attached the Gallery apk to share if anyone else is as picky as I am.
I simply moved it to /system/app, overwriting or deleting the original, then fixed the permissions. I kept the original odex file. Rebooted and all is well.
Extract the zip/rar file and use the apk inside.
I hope some of you find this useful.

You got me. I'm not a dev just a tinkerer. Be certain that it's named correctly, no spaces, perhaps at the beginning of the file name etc.. When you copy it to /system/app it should ask you if you want to overwrite the existing file. That'll tell you it's named correctly. Unless there is something else that you're missing, it should work, as it worked for me. I wish I could do it for you, man. I simply copied the apk from my sd external and pasted it into /system/app, fixed the permissions and rebooted. After the reboot, I confirmed the gallery worked then I cleared cache and dalvik just for the heck of it. Really sorry it's not working for you as easily as it did for me.

This black bar is in the way of most apps including FULL SCREEN GAMES. It’s just a waist of screen I was going to change the OS until I found out this would void the Warranty. So all I can do now is hope for an update getting rid of it.
Can this function not just be moved to hold press on the homescreen or recent apps button?
or even better hold down home screen button = main menu
and hold down recent apps button = 3 dot black bar
and then we get the rest of our screen back to 4.7-inch instead of 4.4-4.5-inch that's a big unneeded black bar.

It's a real annoyance. It shouldn't of been there in the first place. HTC should of put another button on the phone, would of been a lot easier and better for us
Sadly theres no way of changing it unless you root or install a custom ROM
I personally did the latter, I've got my recent apps mapped to menu and hold for recent apps, HTC should copy this

If some one else wants to link the the thread on htcforums.com and vote then hopefully in an update this will be changed... until then maybe someone will figger out how to fix this with out voiding the Warranty. But its a slim chance i know.
Hence me trying to bring this to HTC's attention.
Isn't this down to software developers, not HTC? It's an ICS change to remove the Menu button and relocate it elsewhere within the App, HTC are just designing their hardware around the software.
When developers bother to update their Apps to reflect this change in ICS, the menu bar goes away, as it does for already updated Apps.
ah good point I didn't think of that. the where would u say the best place to post is?
EDIT: google FTW androidforums.com would this be the best bet?

yep, Google wants to get rid of physical menu buttons, because in ICS they made actionbars, bars that can hold a menu button. Many apps are not yet ICS optimized, so the new phones that lack a menu button get an autogenerated soft menu button. On the Galaxy Nexus the black bar also holds the home and back button, so the menu button only gets added to this bar. Samsung ignored this request by google and just put a physical software button on their S3, because they think it's better for the users. So in the end, the bottleneck is indeed the developers not optimizing their apps...

You can get rid of it without root. Heres how:
1. Backup your apps with astro and transfer them to your PC.
2. Download apktool here
3. Decompile your app using apktool. (there are plenty of guides out there)
4. Open the androidmanifest.xml and look for the attribute targetSdkVersion. Change the value to 14. (You can use minSdkversion in case the targetSdkversion is missing.)
5. Recompile the app with apktool.
6. Sign and zipalign the app. (apktool or signare)
7. Transfer back to phone and install.
8. Enjoy your menu-buttonless apps

and this wont void the Warranty? cos if not i am so doing this.
EDIT: Would this mean you would each app separately and again when there updated...if so pass ;-)
but it would be better if the developers of ICS sorted it.
How'd you get rid of it if you do have root (is there a way other than flashing a kernel / new rom?).

No it wont void the warranty. You have to do every app separately and again if updated. Kinda slow but gets the job done.

I'm not rooted at the moment...but I will be after the JB update...how would I go about subbing the frogs for something better?
If you use a file explorer to pull the system/app/Mms.apk from your phone, you decompile this file and put it back together. However just to change the emoticons this is overkill.
You can open the APK in WinRar, navigate to the res\drawable-xhdpi folder, and replace all the emo_ PNG files with whatever 48x48 emoticon you want. Probably could use the Emoji files that relate and just copy/rename them.
Then find an empty flashable Zip, put it in there, flash from recovery and you're good to go.
I would just like to make a note here that they are not frogs but the android guy, also emotes are specific to phone so only you see those emotes any other phone sees their own emotes.

Correct. Problem is I can't tell what they're supposed to be most of the time.
Either way, due to the darn noses in the emoticons, they are hardly ever seen beyond my outgoing messages (since very few people use noses in emoticons).
