[Q] So I just bought a Play from eBay.

What exactly do I need to know like how to unlock the bootloader/carrier unlock and about the gamepad and which roms fully support it? I have a Xperia X8 and a S3, so I'm not a total noob. I got the R800at one.
I typed this by hand.

go to this site http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/
for instruction http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/instructions
and about the rom u can say the catalog will br provided with working and non working apps and all
Also when you're looking for roms, if you don't care about getting cell service you can flash any xperia play rom you want. If you want cell service, you have to get GSM roms, and make sure they are ones that are compatible with your phone. Also, any rom that isn't compatible with the gamepad will usually say so within the posting.

If your Xperia S is in a purchased state (ie, not modified at all and running stock firmware) I guess its bootloader will be locked. Anyways as Xperia S has got a dedicated forum section, head over there to learn about it more.

Yes @christin91,
Even if Your phone is from Dubai. You can get all the updates Anywhere in the world.
Do not root or unlock the bootloader of your device. As that will void the warranty.

[Q] Sony Xperia ZQ important questions

Hi, I m from Brazil
I just bought a Xperia ZQ and it s my first Sony. Can you help me with some questions?
I ve already know that I can change my carrier version by another registered one downloaded right here in xda website without root or unlock the bootloader, right?
As I m not a developer, why would I need to root and unlock the bootloader?
Where, if It is possible, can I find different skins and themes for it?
How can I know about new upates? For example, new releases of firmware or android versions?
Thank you

Its called Xperia ZL so just search it on the search for device bar. You dont have to be a developer to unlock as unlocking can give you cool roms that can be very much customized.

You get updates thru SONY and you will get a notification when you can get a update.
To see if you can unlock your bootloader go to
http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/instructions as it will tell you the directions then once you have unlocked, go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=2095 and find some roms. ( its a little dangerous if you dont know what your doing ) and UNLOCKING will void the warranty

If you have already unlocked your bootloader, without backing up your Drm Keys, then you wont get the bravia engine back.

I havent unlocked my bootloader yet. I just rooted (the bootloader changed unlockable yes to no), installed cwm and made a backup using cwm, saved in internal storage. Is that enough? Is this backup saved the drm keys?
Thank you

Use the tutorial I have linked above, with that method you will get your phone back to factory-state when you want to.

I have a unrelated question, because I'm planning to buy this phone here in Brazil. Battery is something you can rely on with 3G on?

The phone is fantastic, but the battery is below average even with 3g, altough the relates i hear about SIV are even worse. Since HTC don't sell officialy in Brazil anymore, i don't trust in LG and Motorola don't have a rival for these phones i think ZQ is the best choise.
I'm a heavy user, so i charge it twice a day,but with moderate use + stamina mode i think you can get a day of battery.

No, it won't brick the device as long as You follow the correct procedure.
Thanks, I will try it as soon as possible
Xperia S and Xperia SL are the same except for their CPU frequencies being clocked at a different speed.
You can use all the methods/mods/roms/kernels of S for SL and vice versa
Thanks guys for the help. I've successfully unlocked the bootloader.
