About the possibility of a 5.x" Nexus - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hi Guys,
while I was reading the news about an upcomming Galaxy Note 2 by the end of October 2012 I was thinking of the possibility of a 5.x" Google Nexus.
For someone like me who's smartphone (displays) has been getting bigger over the years this would be so interesting.
What do you think about? Since there will be a few new Nexus this year this is not that unrealistic.
Regards,

No. Just no.

If there really are multiple Nexi next time around, I can see this being a reality.

If they will make phone bigger by 0,1" - i'm not buying it. Sick of those "elephant style" phones.

Do not want multiple Nexus phones coming out at once.

Well I would think because the development will be split into however many of them are being made? The whole point of Nexus is the developing community, and I seriously doubt that devs can afford 5 different devices.

Having multiple Galaxy devices in my eyes defeats the purpose of the Nexus name. The devs can focus on the ONE device making it as best as possible. This is why I and many others desire a Nexus. Now imagine if there are 5 Nexus devices... I like flashing multiple roms ,but say for an example one dev that makes a rom i like gets variation #1, and another rom i like the dev gets variation #2. You see where I'm going with this right?

All the next nexus needs is a beefed up processor, improved battery life stock, and if Sammy is the manufacturer a Super AMOLED HD screen. I personally don't think it needs more screen real estate.

That's a fair enough argument. For me the variation of hardware options is a bigger factor.
They will all have AOSP on them and that's what I care about.

As it is I find the Galaxy Nexus a tad cumbersome for single handed use so no, I wouldn't be interested in a larger device.
As in, my thumb can't reach the upper opposite side without shifting my grip or vice versa. Nexus S was a perfect fit.

Hands down better camera
I'd like to see a better camera and longer lasting battery. Those are about the only things I feel are holding back the current Gnex from being a perfect phone.

But do you go to the nexus a forum to flash roms to your galaxy nexus.
I think it's a great idea, then if Google makes a nexus with different options, I see a lot of posts saying if the phone gets bigger I'm not buying. I believe the nexus is not a Dev phone anymore. Google is working hard on enhancing it's ui on Android and the Web. With multiple devices and Google showing the world pure Android and customers can have it in the hardware options they want

GS2 T989 is much better the Galaxy Nexus.

We are always going to be behind with software. This is the Google's and Manufacturer's fault. I have the Galaxy Nexus in my hand today and I had the GS2 for 2 months already there is nothing that Galaxy Nexus has that GS2 doesn't and we have to wait for this **** manufacturer's to release updates. The GS2 is faster and more conferable in hand.
If anyone has any questions ask me I'll try to answer.

I won't go as far as to say that the Galaxy S II is the better phone. I had a Galaxy Nexus on Verizon and it was great other then a couple defects I ran into. The software on the Galaxy Nexus will most likely be better then what makes its way to the GSII and the notification led on the Nexus is the best one I have seen on any phone. The Galaxy S II has a way better camera and has been a lot more reliable.
Both are great phones. Its really hard to say which one is better.
I say your essentially buying the same phone twice. Besides ics and a few other differences they are basically the same phone.

I'm sure theirs been a long thread discussing this already. Everyone feels strongly opinionated and there is no true winner. They both have pros and cons. If I HAD to choose I would go with the Nexus hands down for the fact that its a nexus phone and development will be great. ICS seems amazing and the display as well.
There is enough hate in the world. Why can't we all get along here ...?
Oh man, you guys completely ignore the screen issue our GS2 has. If it was a good screen, had a exynos then it would be better than the nexus. International GS2 fits in that category.
Okay.. I own and love both phones and these types of threads are entirely subjective and flame prone. Holding a phone in your hand is NOT a valid explanation for why a phone is better than another. You need to have plenty of hands-on time to really know the pro's and con's of both. (And neither is immune to either.)

most of us dont even notice the issue until someone mention it(i didnt know this until i heard about it..and i always use my phone in the dark..)
Man we buy the phones for $500 to $600 and we have to cry to get some software updates thats the thing. Google shouldn't relese the update till all the major manufacturers have their updates ready as well. If it goes like this we are going to get ICS end of the year, after original Galaxy s 2 i9100 gets it then we get it and that's the question if the carriers put thirty **** in there. So we looking at till September when Google will unveil the 5.0

if you read on the i9250 forum, they too have the screen problem, and their screen is 720
other than ICS which we'll get, the only other difference is the Barometer sensor
otherwise the i9250 is actually under grade, they even got a major issue with the storage and MTP, and fake sdcard to make old Apps compatible, but even so, there are still Apps that are still not compatible

Ill take external SD support, 8mp cam over the galaxy nexus anyday. This whole the nexus is better crap is dumb all it has is ics and even ics isn't that amazing i used it on the sensation for two weeks and its really good. It adds plenty of things that are pleasant and well done now on android. The bad is apps still need to be updated but the sensation outclassed the galaxy nexus with ics as it is and once we get it this phone will be above the nexus. People buy a phone and always look for something to complain about the screen issue is annoying if you notice it but I'm hoping supercurio makes a fix for us. Either way my use isn't affected except for maybe 5% of the time and even then its just not pleasant to look at. There are a handful of phones that once they have ics will make the nexus look out dated galaxy s 2, amaze 4g, rezound, razr, etc.... development is just slowed from these phones being new and because developing gingerbread might be worthless if ics is here in a couple months.

I'm having that problem now currently with the SG2 haha. Second day with the phone (last phone was MT4G) and every other time when hitting the space bar I hit one of the "hard" buttons on the bottom. Slowly getting used to it though.
I will say - if the Nexus had an equal or better camera than the SG2, I would probably return this and get that instead, especially as there's supposed to be a white one coming out. But I use my phone's camera A LOT, and it's an important feature for me, so the Nexus is out right there. I don't know why they'd release a 'flagship' phone with semi out-of-date specs. With iphone 4, SG2, and many others coming out with 8 megapixels, why would Google only do 5?? Anyway...
notification led on galaxy nexus is really badass too, +1 for that
Im going to donate a tmobile galaxy s2 to the first dev that makes a fully working ics rom for t989.

Lol, well the GS2 is a vast improvement over the myTouch 4G. (I loved that phone when it first came out too, lol.)
I think the Nexus camera has a lot of software issues. It is okay but i think it will get better as Google picks up the slack. Hell they paused the latest update for reasons unknown but people have reported much better stats all around with the leaked 4.0.3 that has been lurking around. I truly believe people make a bigger deal than what is necessary about both of these phones. Why try to argue one over the other? They are both great! As i said previously, both have pro's and con's but i think either or should be enough to satisfy the vast majority of users.

someone offered to trade me a white unlocked galaxy nexus i9250 + $150 for my black At&t Note......tempted....what to do , what to do.....
like the note...but want ics....and sometimes would like a smaller phone....but not sure....
Do it, if you don't like the nexus sell it soon after and buy another note. Instant profit.
Trade it. You'll like it way more.
If you don't have to have the huge screen + stylus, get the Nexus.
so much biased post going on here. if you posted the same thread in the galaxy note forum, people would say stick with it.
go to a verizon store or something and TRY the phone out. Compare how it feels in the hand to your galaxy note. Watch youtube videos / reviews etc etc.
go to that person and TRY comparing the phone to yours. if you like what you see, or if you don't then conclude but don't conclude off of these posts in the forum.
The note, neither a tablet nor a smartphone, doesn't fit in a pocket, and still no official ics support, y would anyone even consider buying it.. Anyways, get the gnex and enjoy vanilla android.

If I had a choice of Note or the Galaxy Nexus on Verizon, I would easily take the Note. I dislike AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile in my area, so the Note isn't an option for me.
The Note fits in half of the pockets in my wardrobe, and I can make phone calls one handed comfortably. The way I use my phone, I find the note more suitable for my needs.
A Nexus Note would be ideal for me. 5.7in screen, Jelly Bean, 3k mah battery+

So what's everyone's thoughts on the One x and subsequent variants in comparison to the GN? Specifically Evo lte vs sprint GN.
Of course software and development will kill compared to the evo, but is the hardware improvements enough to overcome that?
Sure want to stay in the nexus family from my crespo4g, but that S4 chip is looking mighty fine.
I can not see my self ever getting anything other than the a Nexus ... I'll likely buy a new one every year. Right now I don't see any other phone that makes me want to stray from my decision.
I am finally done looking for the best device.

I'm with the Nexus from now on. I came from a long list of carrier branded phones and the lack of bloatware and other junk the carriers heap on you was refreshing on the Nexus. Updates direct from Google as soon as available, not after the carrier spends 6 months adding junk. Also, since this is a "developers" phone, the Nexus community is very active and brings more flexibility.
GN all the way if your a flashing zombie no phone will get the dev that a nexus will. Unlocked boot loaders -huge plus-, look at the evo 3d old phone same specs as our new GN. We've almost caught Dev.

Getting galaxy nexus in 10 days, I can't wait for my first nexus device
Personal opinion
I got my nexus 2 months ago. I can tell that I am happy with it specwise, but I am not happy with the updates (yakjuxw, no 4.0.4 yet). From the performance point of view, HTC One X and S beat the SGS3, but all the custom skins make me not want to buy one and for the moment there are no applications that require 4 cores. I acquired the nexus just for vanilla and for not rooting it (my old htc hero was rooted and I tried all the available custom roms on it). So, as a conclusion, I am 90% happy with the Gnex as long as I can play Fifa 2012 and watch sopcast streams on it.
I went for the Gnex over the evo... I don't see any benefit other than the faster processor but much more limited development, a non-removeable battery, and its not a nexus . I get my gnex tomorrow I ordered it today =]

I was tired of the crazy amount of non-nexus threads cluttering up the Galaxy Nexus forum
So any new "What about the SGS III?" or "Who's changing to the One X?" type threads that pop up outside of this one we should flag so you can lock that particular thread right?
This is how I personally decided to choose between the new S3 and Nexus, the S3 has;
-microSD
-better camera (8v5)
-bigger battery (2100 vs 1750, although latter has extended battery)
-slightly larger screen (4.8 v 4.65)
-faster cpu and gpu
-(eventually it will get CM9 and AOPK as well)
Nexus
-curved body, less ugly (opinion)
-better softwares (stock + updates)
-pentaband
-$340 cheaper (S3 16gb released price $739 VAT included vs Nexus $400, used low as $350)
-(USB OTG can alleviate the needs for microSD)
So choosing between the two weights on whether I want to pay the $340 difference for the hardware improvement, my decision is no. I can live with lower megapixels, 4.65" is fine, S3 hardware is faster but practically Nexus can do all the tasks. So I ended up ordering the Nexus. However, I'm waiting to see how much the S3 prices drop by Christmas. I predict since its a part of a popular flagship series and quadcore is still new, the price won't drop as fast as the Nexus did, which nearly half its price in 6 months. I will more likely wait for the next Nexus device if its announced by then.
I had an evo4g and that development was amazing... from cm7 and to myns to mik, etc it was great and amazing device that actually pull me from iphone... I will never forget my og evo but seems the circumstances with lock boot loader ans s on is a gamble so I'll stick secure with my nexus I got the nexus just 2 weeks ago and coming from an iphone I'm so much happy.. the ICS experience aosp is the beat IMO sure htc makes something look nice for some people but now I think aosp look so much better IMO I will definwtwly get an evo late just to play with it tho because I can't really judge till I have it reall

Nah, some of us are special
IMO, at the moment, none of the competing handsets are that much better than the Nexus to warrant changing but if you were due an upgrade, the likes of the One X or the Galaxy S3 have got to be worthy of consideration.
And the idea that you choose your handset based on firmware strikes me as rather odd. That's pretty much the antithesis of the purpose of XDA, which is that your handset is never limited to the firmware it ships with.
You buy a handset based on the hardware then make the firmware fit your needs.

The way we think about our nexus

When a new phone comes we all wonder, man the new htc is what I want and it has better camera, and the gps is amazing and SIRI wannabe, quad core exynos and 1080p super amoled +(this would be too much lol) ... I just want you guys to remember the we live in the best years of our lives and we don't appreciate it sometimes
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8r1CZTLk-Gk&feature=youtube_gdata_player
Now I can say for myself that I still think galaxy nexus is the best phone in the market even tho s voice and quad core is coming out, I don't really needed and I think I won't use it(had Siri for 6 months and didn't use it much ) and I hope this help for people that always think about the next big thing.
You're right... we do live in the best years of our lives.... but its also made us too reliant on technology and a bunch of spoiled brats...
I was around for all those things he spoke of in the Video and can relate... but I guess everything is relative to every generation... Each one more spoiled then the previous.
Guess in 30 years when our cars fly themselves this generation would be like "Damn, we used to drive, uphill, bothways, on a paved road!"
Lol
Lol. This was great.

Louis is amazing, thanks for the post lol
but yeah, people expect so much and are quick to dismiss something great based off one thing they aren't attracted to... kind of sad but that's the way the world works now, its only the few that can appreciate something's significance and the rest just complain that it isn't good enough.
We gotta hand it to the 2nd group of people though, the ones who are never happy are the ones innovating and providing the rest of us with cooler things although I believe everyone should appreciate everything regardless

I stopped into the att store today and played around with the one x they had in there. Man it was beautiful in white and in grey. The fit and finish is amazing and the screen is gorgeous... looks a bit better than my GSM nexus and the look of the device was nicer as well. Too bad the rest of the experience let me down. I don't know if it was sense or what but it wasn't nearly as snappy. I know its got more muscle but it hangs in spots for some reason and browsing on it sucked! What's the point in all that beauty and horsepower when the function of the phone doesn't respond in kind? I'd love for the next nexus to be a bit more pretty in design but this thing just works. The major failure in android so far is that manufacturer customization so far has mostly detracted from the function of the phone compared to stock. The galaxy nexus, in GSM form at least is still the high bar other android phones need to measure against. I love this phone. For that, I don't think I'll have a real choice in the future between a nexus and any others. Unless a non nexus gets true stock android there will probably be something letting it down. I think the one x or others could be as good or better overall than this phone if they had just included some phone specific apps to differenciate and left everything else stock and unlocked.
Before anyone says to just put on cm or other aosp on those other devices, unless they are unlocked and have drivers available, they tend to have things missing or unstable when going stock android.

It hit me the other day that I've actually had this phone for almost half a year. It still feels brand new to me, and I marvel at how fresh it still feels with minimal maintenance.
My GS1, Desire HD, and Focus never quite ticked all the boxes, and I had to jump through hoops to get them to operate how I wanted then to. My one and only wish is for the next Nexus to be Note-sized (I pretty much only read books on my phone now). That's not happening, so I'm as pleased with the Nexus as I'll ever be with a phone.

People buy these new phones with the intention of rooting and running a vanilla rom. We have it right outta the box. No limitations. Galaxy nexus is sonning all other phones. Screw hardware. That software...ftw

A discussion about Multiple Nexus devices possibly being released next time around..

I have been reading that it's quite possible that the next batch of Nexus devices could be made by multiple companies. I was just curious as to what people thought of this and if this does happen which will you probably go with? I have always been big on Samsung but if HTC, Motorola, and Samsung all make their own version of the Nexus, I honestly don't know what I would do...What do you guys think about this? Do you think it will happen? Which do you think you would probably go with if this does happen?

Pretty sure there is a thread about this elsewhere, but to answer your question..... I'd go with Motorola all day long. Motorola's hardware is the best hands down, couple that with a open boot loader and toll be the best device we have seen yet.

Moto would be a good choice, but I'd be really tempted by Samsung or HTC. HTC especially, I've had a few of their devices and loved them all, but Sammy has that amazing SAMOLED screen and it's hard going from it to any other screen. Definitely interesting and hopefully true.
I looked and didn't see anything... I was actually leaning more towards Motorola myself. They made solid phones. I'm not big on HTC.. Many ppl like the way they build phones but I like the plastic look. Also Motorola is known for better reception..I've read a lot about how they make best radios.. Looking very forward to it!! Love my Nexus devices!

I think if Motorola would make it, it word go perfect with slcd2, omap5, nice 3500 battery, and thin.

Motorola for sure. Kind miss my og. I have had Sammy HTC and moto. And my of droid was great in its prime.

If only moto and sammy would team up.
Sammy screens, Moto battery tech, Vanilla AOSP Jelly bean or Kandy Kane, both can build slim devices, Moto radios (best in the biz)...maybe some styling from HTC (I always thought my rezound was kind of sexy/classy...for a fat girl). 4.6 to 4.8" screen. 3000mah slim battery....carbon kevlar the whole phone minus the glass and leave it the natural yellowish/greenish/black color. NFC....
I've thought of a way Moto could make their slim batteries like in the Razr and Maxx, removable....but it's hard to explain. (Quick detach I'm implying, not how they are currently removable).
And for heaven's sake at least 32gb since we all know Google won't allow an SD card on a Nexus device. Maybe even a wacom screen like the Note.....
The multiple nexii idea is unrealistic, it would kill the whole meaning of the nexus series, there's also the issue of who will get updates first and who will be issuing the updates, google or oems... we've already witnessed how the cdma gnex contributed to the fragmentation problem, multiple nexii would do the same.
In addition, i hope the next nexus won't have an over saturated and contrasted oled display, i think we should look up to the one x standards.

Well whatever Google decides to go with for the next Nexus...please no Tegra 3. Yes a lot of games are "optimized & compatible" for Teg3 but honestly I think there are better options out there.
hope not...cuz i might hv to get all of them cuz nexus are awesome!!!
I don't believe we will see several new Nexus phones this year. What has been said is that there might be 4-5 nexus devices released this year, right? Well, we already know about two of those: the Nexus 7 and the Nexus Q (although the latter has been delayed). A new phone brings that number up to three, and the fourth device could possibly be a larger tablet (?). Not sure what else there could possibly be, but again, I don't believe there will be more than one new phone.
I think the next nexus will be made by Google.... They own Motorola mobility now so I'm guessing Google will be releasing there own

I can't imagine it being made by anyone but Samsung at this point, honestly. I'd love to see HTC make one, personally. I'm not sure about the other variants, but the HTC OneX (or OneS?) on T-Mobile is absolutely wonderful, physically. It's got that metallic feel that the Nexus One had. I like that a lot more than slick plastic.
I'd love a moto nexus. When it comes to quality hardware ie. Antennas, moto is the best

Not likely. Motorola still operates as its own entity, not as a hardware division of Google, and Google has publically stated that they won't give Motorola preferential treatment like that. The other OEMs would not be happy if they did. So Motorola has the same chances as everyone else (which in my opinion means it's pretty unlikely they will get to make the next Nexus).
its either Motorola or Samsung.. i dont think google would choose HTC (again) or Sony..
wasnt nexuses are supposed to be a developer phone? and not high class fashionista phone like that glass brick does?
nexuses arent jewellry
I have a feeling Samsung will continue to make the Nexus phone.
