it's pretty bad, luckily i have a screen protector on it so all the glass is still in position. i peeled a bit off and pieces of glass were falling out.
anyways i dont have insurance, i was looking thro ebay to buy whats needed to fix it myself, but i'm not entirely sure what i need. it's fully functional, the glass is just cracked, but nothing wrong with the touch screen. now with that said....
do i need this?

thank you for the quick reply i think i am going to chance it and send it in rather than me destroy something
I'm not forcing you to me but it is literally impossible to screw something up, its no relying, nothing, just straight up screwing 6 screws swap front part if phone with new one, and screw back, its really easy tbh

They don't just give you a new one or refurbished one. If all he has is a broken digitizer and LCD they can replace that. They usually carry 003 and older parts in stock. If the damage is beyond repair then they might give him a refurb but not without verifying that the phone is repairable.

Would this work on the evos selling cheap on eBay due to cracked screens or water damage...? Obviously not for the ones that are being sold with bad ESN's
Sent from my froyo using the xda app
Maybe. Not sure about the water damaged ones. But I would suggest buying it keeping on the account for a while then taking it to get repaired. You don't want to raise suspicion and then have sprint cut the repair policy.

Thanks for this post. My screen broke yesterday. I was running upstairs to my apartment with the phone in my hands and I tripped and had to brace myself with my hands. I didn't even know the phone was broken till a few minutes later when my gf saw it.
I'm so glad Sprint will fix it for $35 I thought I was going to have to wait a month at least to save up @$100 and buy a replacement screen. At $35 I'll have it fixed next paycheck or maybe the next one cause of xmas.

I am ordering a new genuine OEM T-989 enclosure. I have seen a lot of people replace the screen digitizer combination. I have not seen any body remove the digitizer and screen from the bezel and mid frame.
Has anybody done this?
Does anybody have any information on this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I was going to do this till I see how difficult it is. It is almost impossible to separate the bezel from the digitizer with out breaking the screen. YouTube it.

P600 I believe. I know it was 600 tho. And no technique I didn't even take the phone apart. I took the battery door off and make sure you have a screen protector on so you don't f up your ****. Just rub he paper hard on the bezel don't be afraid. It will take about 30 to 45 min maybe an hour with breaks cus your fingers will start to burn. Use a gloves they'll help.

I have been thinking that if it is impossible, could you not just sand off the bezel, then Dremel out the inside screen mount of the new frame and finally epoxy the new bezel where the old bezel used to reside with plastic epoxy?
I asked some expert phone repair guys at the CPR Cell Phone Repair franchise; and they said that the screen will never ever ever ever come off unless you are either a machine or really good. They stated that they would not be able to guaranty the screens safety especially considering the heat involved.
If it is done by Samsung at all without replacing the entire digitizer and screen combo I would assume they use some kind of vacuum suction cup to pull off the screen after the proper amount of heat is applied.
Or, we could just paying Samsung the quoted 100 dollars to have it done.
This is non warranty work, so does anyone think they will mind if the phone is rooted?
Here is where you can order parts.
I don't know if they are genuine.

The Bezel is part of the frame I believe. I would bet allot of money you can't get the screen of without cracking the digitizer. But, heat the top and bottom, that is where the greatest concentration of adhesive is. And watch the ribbon to the capacitive buttons because they will be stuck to the screen. You will have to disconnect them.

That looks pretty cool dude. I have a question for you tho. How did you set the DPI so high? Your icons are small and thats how I want mine to be except whenever I use the DPI app from the market, it causes problems with parts of the ROM. For example the google search bar will only go halfway across the screen.

Even without a receipt you can warranty replace it. AT&T can see when the phone was purchased by the IMEI. I had a BlackBerry Torch that my buddy gave me and it messed up, I called them, and boom replacement BlackBerry. In fact that's the phone that I sold in order to get this one

^^^^exactly what he said. Considering the phone is still under manufacturer warranty as well.... You could always have them replace it.
So I dropped my phone and it cracked. The sprint repair center said they didn't have extra screens and I had to pay to get a replacment.
So I'm going to try and fix this myself. My question is, does anyone know if there is like 2 separate screens on the epic? I'm guessing something like the gorilla screen and then the actual inner screen? Because what cracked is only the outside and mostly by the capitive buttons. Could I order a replacement screen and just fix this my self? Would it be hard to do it?

The glass layer and the LCD is sealed together professionally by Samsung for better display effects, so you have to replace them together. I've done the change a year ago and it cost me ~$70. I'm in China though.

I'm going to T-Mobile and probably getting a S4 so I'm not trying to pay that much for the Epic, it's going to be my game and music phone only.
I found this,

not sure if that's what I need though. Never mind, that's just the screen I wouldn't be able to put that on my phone. So, where can I find the whole top sliding part?
If i were you, i would get a bricked or water damaged or broken USB port epic off ebay for like $20 (i got one with broken usb for $14) and just switch out the motherboards. That is the easiest method and cheapest

Ya I've seen a few epics that were up for sale for parts and repair. Ill probably do that because the crack gets worse everyday and it started going to the top. I was first planing on just putting black electric tape on the capitive lights (that's the worst part of the crack) and just putting a screen protector over it and use the nav bar so I won't need the buttons on the bottom lol.

I just replaced the glass on one wed and the adhesive will mess up when u heat the glass and seperate it from the screen. I cleaned it with alcohol after i rubbed it off with my fingers. Im not sure what others are using to hold the glass down but i used double sided scotch poster tape. I folded half a half then once i stuck it to the glass i cut what was left on the edges. Then when i put it back together i heated around the sides with a hair dryer (same thing i used to seperate the glass from the screen) to heat the glue on the tape and rubbed the edges. I did that like four times just to make sure it stuck. It held rly good and the screen was very responsive and is still working great. Just be sure when u seperate u dont rip the ribbon at the bottom where the home button is. Good luck its not that hard to do just go slow seperating so u dont trash the screen.

Mine was dropped and shattered. There are a few very small blue tint marks on the screen now. Im guessing that means the actual lcd screen is damaged?
I think I can live with the tiny blue areas. I would like to replace the glass though.

Theres a thread here of an adhesive that has to go between the glass and lcd or you can possibly damage the lcd if you press to hard.
