Is there a way to make the led flash when I get notifications. I'm using the glacier ics rom.

Probably not
I'm not aware of any mods that allow you to do this. Based on what I've read the indicator light code is pretty messy, most of the nice people who've created the ROMS for us to use have been having issue with it showing correctly when charging. This means that it is a long way off / not going to happen.

I've been trying dozens of AOSP ROMs over the past few months, and every single one causes my phone to reboot after about 5-10 minutes of GPS navigation via Google Maps.
So I'm thinking I need to switch back to a Sense ROM (as much as I hate Sense.)
I'd like to get some feedback as to which ROM is the most stable, with the least amount of "Sense bloat". I don't really need or want any HTC Sense apps, but the most important thing for me is STABILITY. I need navigation to work!
THanks for any input
Were you using custom kernels?

In my opinion AOSP had had better gps results with my phone. However there is a fix by Galandy that is the actual updated gps driver from Qualcomm. Search for evo gps fixes and you will see it.

I tried both stock Cm7 and custom kernels, made no difference.
I'm on Jamieg's KWIQ NONSENSE now and it seems solid... But have to wait a week or so to be sure...
[ Evo / from xda app ]
Hi,
Having been on JB for the last week and having tried many JB kernels (Trinity, Franco), they just don't seem to match the performance (and battery) of the stock kernel currently.
However, I absolutely need the color control features that come with these 3rd party kernels as my stock GN has a terrible yellow tint to it.
What I would like is if I could stay on the stock kernel while being able to alter my screen colors. I've tried to use the experimental Voodoo app that was test released a few months ago but it didn't seem to work.
Does anyone know of an app or something I could flash that can allow me to alter my colors on the stock kernel?
Any help would be appreciated.
Nope not possible . These files are apart of the custom kernels... and only the kernel has the ability to tweak the absolute color values. So the only way to get the color control is to flash back.

So, it wouldn't be possible to (theoretically) modify the stock kernel to just include said color tweaks, and nothing more?

Man would I love that.
Another annoyance with 3rd party kernels is that they slow down after a period of time and requires a reboot to speed it up again. So far, I'm back on the stock kernel and it's still flying after heavy use.

Everything slows down after a long period of not rebooting. Cache builds and the system needs a restart.

Less so with the stock kernel from my experiences. I have no issues with restarting my phone once in a while but doing it every few hours gets exhausting.

Few hours? No days yes... I've never had a kernel slow down within hours. That would be yours apps building cache... the kernel... ironically is what empties it.

The title pretty much says it all. It was working fine last week, then out of the blue, it stopped. It doesn't blink with any notifications (sms, Google voice, emails, etc.) and doesn't turn red while charging (with the phone on and off.)
I tried some "LED color" whatever app off the play store to test it; no luck. I tried a few other apps that let you test out notifications (go sms, sms popup,) and made sure the light was either red or blue, but that didn't work either. I have no task killers.
I said, "well, I might as well Odin back to stock..bhfuedjejudhfrdhxbwysu" and I did. I reflashed cleanGB with the cleanGB kernel. No dice.
Are there any other ways to get it to work? Its annoying cause I don't know when my phone is finished charging or if I get a text. Thanks.

Was it working on stock? If not then it is a hardware issue.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk 2
It wasn't working on stock either. I've honestly only dropped my phone about 3 times since I've bought it (around mid-2010, I believe.)
I was thinking that it might be that I leave it charging overnight & the LED stays on for whatever time I sleep. Maybe it might blown out something in there. You think that might be a problem?
I just want to know for my future phones.

LEDs can go bad my man. That's most likely what happened IMO.
Sent from my AOSP Android 4.1.1 Galaxy Nexus
Damn, that sucks. All good things must come to an end. Well, I'll check to see if the warranty I bought from Best Buy still covers the phone.
Thanks a lot for the quick replies, guys.

When I got my GS3 it had an issue where the LED wouldnt blink, just stayed lit. TMobile sent an update not long after that fixed it. Worked fine for the last 2 months. Rooted last night and the LED issue is back. Lights up but doesnt blink. stays solid. Root+CWM+SU and busy box. Nothing else.
Help? I searched and read some others but they weren't quite issues like mine so I apologize if this has been addressed already.
What version OS are you on? Meaning LH2, LEM,..
Also when you say it just stays on, is that after you receive a message or when plugged in. Is the screen on while it is lit up? Have you double checked the LED settings after you rooted? Maybe they got un/ticked somehow.
The LED lights up and stays lit, does not blink. Other than that its normal. Happens for any notification that would have made it blink previously. Settings are per app and havent changed (Go SMS, facebook, facebook messenger, etc) Screen doesnt come on improperly or anything like that. The LED is constant when it should blink.

Only time I've seen that on my phone it was caused by the Liteflow app. Not sure if it was ever addressed but did you have an led control app installed at any point?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
I believe I did, for a short time, months ago. But it was long ago removed.
It may have screwed with some settings that you didn't notice, but when you updated they carried over but caused some sort of conflict....hard to say for sure. I would create a nandroid backup, backup your int sdcard, and do a factory reset. (If you don't have stock recovery it won't wipe internal sd, but if you still have issues go in recovery and format data.)
Then restore the data portion only of your nandroid. If it comes back you will have to either deal with it or start from scratch.

Or check to see if app was fixed and reinstall it. Configure it, then uninstall. It could help....maybe.

Actually you're better off just installing one of the newer modems. They fix that problem. UVLI6 or 7 and you're peachy keen. After the nandroid backup of course

Really? I find that surprising since the modem is independant from the rest of the system. But hey, if it works for that, great!
OP, if you try this let us know if it fixed yours please.

Man its been a long time since I played in recovery I think Ill look for that new modem...
Doc has a thread in the Dev section that has all the modems and a maps in post#2 that will tell you where people are getting best data and with what modem.
Although I doubt a modem swap will fix it, I am interested to see. Maybe check in the GoSMS app and see if there are any settings for notification options that are over-riding stock settings.
Edit: Here is Doc's thread.

You can use any1 one of them as long as it is aTMO modem. When I was on FrostyJB I used H2 modem which is ICS with no problems.
I'm on a version of LH2 and am using LI7 modem.
The led lights are being changed as the code is being updated.
Wish I knew more.
But, seems to be the case

Yup. Originally it was coded differently than was expected, as normally done in the past. I know it was being worked on on the liteflow app and heard Sammy was going to do something about it too, but I never kept up with it.

New modem did not fix me issue
So wait.. whos issue is this sammy or the devs ?
Strictly hardware...is the phone capable of true RGB variances in light ? All I see is Blue/Green/Red any other color is some weird mix where Blue is still too prominent.
Are there any custom ROMs where the LEDs function as normal and 3rd party apps can control as expected ?
Its a Samsung issue. If I remember right it was only on the US variants (or maybe just ours?).
Its just the way it was coded. I guess they never got it fixed either on the light flow side or Samsung side? I stopped keeping up with the progress a while back.

Do any of the ROMS for S3 support NFC without unlocking the phone?

I had found this mod back when I was using CM10.1 and tried it but it was breaking my WiFi/Bluetooth/data/phone/SMS... Any ideas? I am currently running ParanoidKANGdroid, but looking to possibly change to something else sometime soon.

me too... if u find out lmk....
Well in that topic I neglected to read that it is incompatible with CyanogenMod, which is what I was using at the time.
However, and I'm not sure about other AOKPs but task650's 4.2.1 AOKP has the option to change it between screen on, screen off, and screen unlocked. I was having other issues with that ROM, however.

I realize this thread hasn't been active for over a year,
But xPosed Installer has a lot of mods including NFC while the screen is off. Might want to check it out.
