[Q] Help with FPSE Metal Gear Solid - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can someone point me the right settings and FPSE version for fully working Metal Gear Solid? I tried many different settings I saw around the web but I never got sound to work and that's kind of annoying
SOLVED
EDIT: So I got to the Psicho Mantis part and what should I do if I can't change the controller port? I don't no how to defeat it

Let me tell you what my settings are. The game works great!
For the System menu, I have only the "Force mono core" box ticked
For the Audio menu, I have nothing ticked
For the Video menu, I have the Famelimiter, Forced Landscape Orientation, and Hardware acceleration boxes ticked
Hope this helps!

Correction, I have the SPUSYNC box ticked under the Audio menu. Enjoy!

They are the settings I use with spy sync being the most important.
I also like overclocking to 1.6 and play games with open gl.
Have all video setting apart from special frame limiter and busy fix I get 55-60 fps.
Oh you also need boost mode enabled gives me about 15fps more.

If you already played metal gear you might know that in order to default Psicho mantis you have to change the controller (joystick) from port one to port two. I need to know how to do that in fpse. In ps pocket there's an option for that.

I think you might have two options to achieve your solution.
The first might be more painstaking, but for that portion of the game:
Go Menu->Settings->Gamepad->Assign HW buttons->Assign Hw keys for Pad 2 and just remap all the keys for port 2
The other option that may work:
Go Menu->Settings->Gamepad->Overlay pad->Select Pad port->Port 2 and play using on screen controls.
Maybe a combination of the two? Let me know if it works.

Nice to know I'm not the only one with such traditions. Right now I'm playing FFVII for the second time on my PLAY. I love it

Guy how did you contact Meryl? When i pull up the codec radio, i cant see the frequency and its not highlighted in green as it was on the original playstation console. Ive googled this and its a known issue with mgs running on FPse. You basically cant only dial preset codecs like campbell master and mei ling.
I wanna call Meryl caz i just defeated revolver ocelot, how do i that? Its ****ing annoying cuz i know here codec but i cant see the frequency when i change it lol :S

hi all this is my first post but anyways if you want to beat physco mantis without switching controller ports just get to the point where your fighting mantis and you cant hit him and open the codec and keep calling cambell until he says to swap controller ports then let mantis kill you then continue and do it all over again and when you cant hit mantis again and meryl is knocked out open codec and keep calling campell until he says to destroy the statues with the gas masks on either side of the room (use the fa-mas assuat rifle or c4) btw you cant destroy the statues till your told to by cambell and meryl's codec is number is 140.15 and cambell or any1 else you can call wont tell you what it is they just say to look at the back of the cd case (weird)

Battlefield 3 Menu

Anyone know how to create the red/blue static thats in the Battlefield 3 menu when youre respawning? Or at least what the effect is called.
You would need adobe after effects. If u mean as a still picture then its easy on Photoshop.
Wrong section to post this by the way.

My bad. Thank you for the help though. Do you know what i would have to do to implement this on a still picture?

You could do a HTML/JS (or HTML 5) rollover effect when the mouse rolls over the image it switches to the staticy-broken one like on battlelog.
Do a search for "HTML javascript image rollover"

[APP] GalacticNight -- night mode for rooted E4GT

I made a simple open source nightmode app for rooted E4GTs that turns the screen to red and black, to preserve night vision. I've only tried it on EL29. Whether it works on other firmwares, or other Samsung phones, depends on whether they use exactly the same /system/etc/mdnie* files.
USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.
If you ran some screen adjustment app that modified your mdnie* files, GalacticNight will refuse to start.
There are also options for green and black, black and white, as well as reversed colors (e.g., if you want to browse the web at night, reversed BW might work better).
You also save some battery life in single-color night mode, because you don't turn on the other colors.
Yes, I know there is ChainFire3D, which is a great app, but this is better for nightmode. ChainFire3D does nightmode by simply dropping the green and blue colors. That way of doing things can make some things invisible (e.g., some things in the UI may be pure green, and then they'll turn black). GalacticNight, instead, properly converts RGB colors to luminosities, and then sets the red (or green or white) intensity according to the luminosity.
GalacticNight manipulates the /system/etc/mdnie* files and should not have any more impact on performance than, say, using the Movie color profile in the standard settings.
If something goes wrong, you may need to go in with adb and copy the backed up mdnie* files from /sdcard/GalacticNight_backup

Yup, that was perfect, thank you. I didn't realize that busybox's mount formats the list of partitions a bit differently. I just posted 0.02 which fixes the problem your log showed. Of course, there could be other problems.
I updated to 0.03. Don't know how compatible it will be, but now it does things quite differently (it sets up a link from /system/etc/mdnie*dynamic_mode to files in /sdcard, so it doesn't need to touch /system when you change colors) and adds a new sepia mode which changes the background to sepia (same shade as Kindle app uses).
Looks like one problem is that this stuff has been seriously changed in ICS while I only have GB. Looking at ICS source code (for the I9100, but I am hoping it's the same here), there is a control file called "tunning" (yes, "nn") somewhere on the device (maybe in /sys/class/mdnie/?) that controls color tuning files. Can anybody check if they have such a file?
here ya go...this is from cm9
but it seems to just be blank??
Thanks, it's actually a control file. When you copy it it should be empty when you have no tuning file.
If you want to try to help with further development, I posted instructions in this thread on what would help next. It's hard to develop for an OS version I don't have, but I really don't want to go to ICS on my device.
For the daring user, I made a version of GalacticNight for ICS. Not tested on any ICS device, but based on my understanding of the ICS mdnie driver source code. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. Here it is. If you are daring enough to try it (I do think that if it screws up the display, a reboot should fix it, but I can't make any promises), I would be grateful for tests.
I would recommend first testing the Dynamic/Standard/Movie modes. Those are less likely to cause problems on your device.
If you have GB, you can try this version, too. I did test the GB version of the code. This version has a new screen mode called "No blue" which turns off blue pixels to save batteries, and modifies red and green to compensate. White turns to yellow. I've heard that blue light makes it harder to fall asleep, so this might be a good screen mode for use while reading yourself to sleep. I certainly felt like I got sleepy while using this mode last night.

Excellent. I spent a couple of hours adding S3 support since then. Could you try the current version to make sure I didn't break the S2 ICS support. I hope it will all work on S2 (GB and ICS), S3, Note (completely untested) and maybe even the 7.7 Tab (completely untested).
Also, while you're testing, I'd like to find out if the color mode survives turning the screen off and on. (It doesn't on the S3.)
On my S2 it returns to normal after screen turns off.
Still an awesome app though. With the way you have the interface it is so simple and quick to change colors, having to reapply after screen off is not much of an issue for me.
Thanks for building this app. Great job!

Screen flicker while typing.

Note: I searched forum for screen flicker issue, but it wouldn't let me reply to the thread for some reason, so I'm creating a new one here.
Phone : Samsung Galaxy S3 SGH-i747m, ICS, not rooted.
Hi guys
I noticed when I'm typing a message or email, the screen would flicker sometimes, its so quick that if you blink you'll miss it, I know I'm being picky about it because its an expensive phone. So I did some more tests on it, I thought it might be due to samsung keyboard so I installed third party keyboard and noticed flicker again, then I installed sms pro, still noticed flicker; noticed flicker in email app as well as gmail app. At this point I thought it might have something to do with the software(sending keyboard signals to the operating system?) since it only happens when I type. So I did another test, but this time in SMemo and I didn't notice any flicker, I was puzzled here, so I tested 5 times for straight 15 minutes straight, no flicker.
I noticed that in all the apps I tested except SMemo there was something in common - traditional "textbox" object, whenever I typed in a typical textbox, I noticed flicker. So I downloaded few note taking applications which were using typical textbox and non-typical textbox(not sure how many different text objects are there in android, I haven't started android app development yet.) so I noticed flicker in apps with typical textbox, and didn't with non-typical textbox.
So I was wondering if you guys can do a similar test on your phone to confirm whether the flickering exists on your phone or not. I'll be relieved to know that I'm not the only one with this flickering issue, and hopefully Jelly Bean update will fix it.
To reproduce, just open a messaging app and start tapping on the letters from Q to M one by one.
Side Note: I did send the phone for repair in case it was a hardware issue, they couldn't reproduce the issue for some reason, reloaded the firmware and sent it back to me. sigh
tldr: Screen flickers when typing in any other app except SMemo.
You didn't search very hard, or you would know that the flickering is a known issue. That can be fixed by either raising your minimum clock speed to around 384mhz, remove your under volt settings, and disable hw overlays in dev settings.

Undervolting requires a kernel that supports it as well ad an app to control the voltage of the CPU. While the ktoonsez kernel does support undervolting, you stated you didn't know how to change the settings. I am assuming you never undervolted your CPU.
Are you using ktoonsez's newest kernel? His older kernels were undervolted and did not have stock settings

Crap, I just made an ass of myself, thought you said you had different kernel.
Sorry bud, haven't heard of the screen flickering issue on completely stock phone.
Hmmm...well, I don't have this issue.
But, I know the power saving adjusts the refresh rate: try disabling that if it's enabled.
Also, you didn't change any settings in developer options, did you? Like show screen updates?
What apps do you have installed? I know my brightness adjustment app did funky things with my screen when I first installed it.
Or did this happen right when you got the phone?
I don't know know a lot about backing up, but you could reset your phone and see if it still happened?

I already tried disabling power saving, the frequency of screen flicker reduced but it still flickers.
None of the setting is enabled in developer options.
I dont have lot of apps installed, may be one or two, texting app and google chrome and other apps which already came with the phone.
I already tried resetting to factory settings, but that too didnt solve the problem.
It doesnt flicker when I type in SMemo, but it does in other apps, this is the thing which I dont understand.

Same thing is happening to me, some help would be greatly appreciated.
so no one else is having this issue?

[Q] really need help with game keyboard.

ok so after many updated with ppsspp i notice i can really play psp games on my xperia play. BUT none of these updates fix touchpads
so i finally tried game keyboard (Which is currently pissing me off!) i got to setup the touchpads to emulate touchscreen touches so i set 2 of them left touchpad acts as the psp analog and the right touchpad acts as a dpad. now when i import a profile and enable it and move the touchpads they work but only for about 5 seconds or as long as i dont let it go. then they never work again! then i switch back to xperia keyboard and back to game keyboard i get 5 more seconds. Why does it keep turning off?
I know you guys use game keyboard so can someone actually help. -__-

Hi xdarkmario,
I played with Gamekeyboard+ version 6.0.0 some tonight on PPSSPP and got the touchpads to work fine. Here's the steps I took....
I used Quick Setup / Xperia Play-> Touchscreen, and enabled Advance Input and Alternate Key Detect.
Also scrolled down to "Internal Options" and made sure these settings were enabled:
__"8-way D-Pad"
__"Show Start & Select"
__"Show Analog Stick"
__"Re-map Hardkey"
__"Use Analog"
__"D-Pad Drag"
__"Pan Camera"
__ Go into "Custom Layout" and make sure that Layout Edit Mode and "Enable Custom Layout" are enabled
Then go back to the initial GameKeyboard setup screen and touch on "Custom & Test" to make the controls pop out. Now touch in the very center of the D-Pad controller and this should bring up a list of options for the D-Pad. Now select "Rotation" and set the D-pad to be rotated to the Left. Now use the back button on your phone to back out of the Game Keyboard app.
Now boot up your game in ppsspp and go into ppsspp game settings /controls, then enable on screen touch controls... then go back to the game and touch the upper right corner of the touchscreen to make the Gamekeyboard controls pop out. From there, you ought to be able to move things around in the Gamekeyboard app and overlay the buttons/touchpads on top of the ppsspp on-screen touch controls. The Alternate Key Detect setting messed up a couple of the button mappings... (it sticks A & B together) ... so you will have to remap those to make them work right (that's also why you have to rotate the dpad to the left).
After you get everything set up how you like it, you can go back into the ppsspp game control settings and reduce the on screen button opacity down to 0 to make the on screen controls disappear.
Don't forget to save and export the Gamekeyboard gkp profile to your sd card after you get everything done.
something must be wrong with my xperia play! im about to chuck it out the window!!
everything worked BUT ONLY FOR 5-10 SECONDS if i hit start and quickly go to test i can move the touchpads around but after a couple of seconds it just dies! then it will no longer move or sometimes if i hit start it will work for a wile but if i let go of the touchpad and try again it dies!
That's strange. I'm using a Verizon R800x that's running rooted stock 2.3.4 GB with stock kernel. If you're using a different kernel/ROM combination, then I wonder if that might be playing a role. Do the touchpads work fine on other games?
yeah and everything else the touchpads works 100% like this supposed to be they don't turn on and off but only when I'm using this gamekeyboard it turns off after 5 seconds or after I let it go this I don't understand I'm also using an r800x
But with a custom rom and kernel

http://youtu.be/39mIy1ZoD7g?list=UUqRBiq8IrN7xdJLdtHo209g There's this brazilian tutorial video, well I don't get anything he says but the game keyboard he uses is in english, so just do what he does and will work just fine, is working for me so far
That looks like a good tutorial and that guy really looks like he knows what he's doing. The Gamekeyboard app in the tutorial is for the older 4.0.0 version, but I would think that the things he does in the video should work with the newer version too.
@xdarkmario, ... If you tell me exactly what rom /kernel setup you're running, then I'll flash those onto my R800x and see if I get the same "5 second" issue that you're experiencing. That would at least help to rule out if it's something wrong with your phone or if it's something else like the kernel/ROM combo.

Cool. Thanks for the video. It's definitely strange. What version of Gamekeyboard are you using? I'm using this one.... https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.locnet.gamekeyboard2
I've got Dixperia flashed with Lupus. I've never tried it before and I'm really impressed with the ROM so far with the little that I've played with it. My WiFi connected with no problems too with lupus and the rom seems really smooth.
I will try to install ppsspp and test out the Gamekeyboard touchpads tomorrow. I need to get into bed now so I can get up for work in the morning.

Hi xdarkmario,
I tested Gamekeyboard touchpads tonight on DiXperia Enormous with lupus kernel... and they seemed to work fine for me.
I made a rough Gamekeyboard profile for you to try for Gods Eater Burst... you can grab it from this link, gkp profile. After you download it to your SD card, then import/save/and load the profile. Then if you follow the setup steps I used in my previous post, I'm hoping it will work for you.
Ok... so I tried to play Bladeslinger with Gamekeyboard... and now my touchpads aren't working. lol. So I'll play with it some more to see if I can figure out what's triggering this to happen. Will have to wait until this weekend when I get a little more time.
I'm not using game keyboard, but maybe rom have heavy memory menagment and it's killing background apps after 5 seconds.

Maybe tweaks in build.prop? As I see, from zip file of ROM, there are some.
Logcat could be useful too...
When you set transparency more then 0% (visible) , is keyboard app killed or just touchpads doesn't work?

I recently purchased a Moto Z Play and the Approach for Display function does not work correctly. When I start the phone it works a couple of times, after receiving some notifications from different applications the function simply stops working. Does anyone know how to help me?

Pandora? What is this? I try onde day in Security Mode and the Approach work normally. Is it some background app then? I have whatsapp, Royale clash, twitter, twitch, Spotify and Money Manager third-party app, will it be any of those?

Any games or music in the background on yes will effect it.
Pandora is music streaming like Spotify.
So yes Spotify and twitch for sure would effect it. WhatsApp and Twitter are messaging clients and will not effect it.
Try making sure those are off and double check Moto actions and report back. This should work
Thank you by the help. Only for i understand: you is recommending that i uninstall the applications or let they blocked in the Moto Display ?
No keep the apps. I'm just saying that the approach wake won't work if you have twitch or Spotify on in the background with the screen off is all

But even if Spotify is not playing music or the Twitch is not showing any transmission at the time the problem still occurs. How do I solve it at all?

I recently purchased a Moto Z Play and the Approach for Display function does not work correctly. When I start the phone it works a couple of times, after receiving some notifications from different applications the function simply stops working. Does anyone know how to help me?
