I am putting a custom rom on my wife's phone for the first time. She doesn't really do anything major on her phone. She has gingerbread and it just got rooted. Any suggestions on a good rom to use? Thanks.
Besides being in the wrong section, miui is a great asop rom. If you want a little sense 3.0 check out newt's sensation. Rmk has a debloated version of the latest ota gingerbread if you fancy something more stock.

besides why she needs a custom rom?
I have been trying alot of these out last couple days but i havent tried the sense 3.0 been having best luck with miks new sensation 1.1 though
If you need GSM for international travel, select carefully. Most ROM's don't support it well or at all in many cases. If you are CDMA only, your choices are more solid.
I've tried miui and cm7 and in my opinion cm7 is just a snappier and better ROM. Just my opinion though

CM7? Which one is that?
BTW, as to why she might want a custom rom, speed...right?
Really all of the roms out now are pretty nice...
Being for a girl I'd think shed lean toward liking miui or a sense 3.0 based roms like virtuous or mikroms incredible sensation. The latest version from newtoroot (incredible sensation) has given me the best results. Very fast and stable and newt has been very responsive with the few quirks. by quirks I mean that his version is based on sense 2.1 so there was more he had to do to get the framework to align. It is definitely good enough to be a daily driver now.
Cm7 and omgb/omfgb are probably the fastest roms out. I really like omfgb combined with the tiamat kernel but cm7 is similarly great with more customization options (most of which your wife would likely never use). Omgb/omfgb is very back to basic, pure Android experience.
Rmks gingersense has been mostly my go-to though. Similar to stock, debloated, customizable. Pretty much a set it and forget it option with no issues. The only thing that aosp based roms have that I have an issue with is the incall volume. Tiamats kernel improves this a lot but still not quite where stock sense is in volume level.

MikRom rls 1.1 is sense 3.0 minus 2 features. It's our stock ROM with 3.0 added.

I mean idk if its just me, or what. But its like every new ROM is new Sense 3.0 Spins, and im not hating, no nothing. They're all great, but theres a couple now, and i really dont see truly any difference in any sense 3.0 ROM, and the devs keep pumping them out, i mean if there arent any differences. Are there really?
Are you asking if there are any differences between the couple of sense 3.0 Rome themselves or between the sense 3.0 roms opposed to sense 2.1 roms?

the differences between the various current sense 3.0 roms themselves
If you read the OP's to each ROM you can find very small diferences (Kernel's, ROM Bases, DEVS Tweaks, etc)
So I've been wondering, will there ever be a ics ROM that will be running sense? I really enjoy ics but I hate to say goodbye to my sense ui because it's great! If you know any that would be great!

Right now from what I know, there is a sense 3.6 rom for the rezound, I could be mistaken and a sense 4.0 rom leak for the rezound. The likelyhood of either being ported to the incredible is slim to none.

I really wish there could be, or at least an ics based theme over 3.5 like how Ice Cream Sense was just a themed gingerbeard.

That seems more possible. Sense 3.5+ICS on this phone=major lag.

No 4.0 as the rezound isn't getting it :/ but yes we have 3.6 leaks that are very stable. You would need an ics kernel before they would even boot though.

I dont know it could be possible question is how much room is open and how much ram the ics ui is using on our little incredibles i am not sure we have enough ram as it seems we have 412 of the 512 useable
only thing i would thing]k of with sense and ics would be a port from the incredible 2. which is ics with sense 2.0 when is gets released. ICS is more demanding and 3.0+ would lag to much.

I couldn't even imagine the lag it would actually have. I just love the sense UI way too much to give it up. But if I can't have my dream OS and UI, then what are good and stable ICS ROMs? I was looking at abduction I believe it was called and I think I'm going to download that.

You would still need a kernel though. I know that the din2 forums began to write their own but not Mich worked

I can't wait
Sent from my DrOiD InCrEdIbLe because its CoLd
Most of the roms seem to have retained Sense 4. And the Sense roms seem to be updated more frequently.
I like the new Sense but want to try something different. I'm coming from Android Revolution which I like very much.
Want a ROM with lots of improvements to optimize performance, smoothness and speed, based on the latest ICS version, with bone-stock APKs and no bloatware.
Suggestions? What are my best couple options even....?
I'd recommend LeDrOiD and Android Revolution HD, both are updated frequently. But since HTC have not released any new software lately, there isn't much for the developers to do.
Both ROM can have Sense removed, LeDrOiD is easier in this regard.
It seems kernel is currently the hot development area.
Edit, posted irreverent info.
Thanks! I was asking about ROMS not Launchers though.
Ideally I would like a sense-less ROM that came with the stock ICS launcher (even over Apex or Nova).

try JDROID rom then or check the rom thread and see if they give the sense-less option in aroma installer..most roms now do that anyway. or just use rom-cleaner no-sense version and it does the business for you anyway

I can't claim to have given it a thorough testing, but the CM9 build available on the MoDaCo forums seemed pretty stable to me.

just by reading the changelog for me there was a few options there missing..plus the closed source attitude kinda put me off that rom anyway of Trips..the guys in the development section here are doing a far great work and are alot more helpful...so i would wait on those guys to get it up and running
I thought camera and wifi hotspot weren't working on CM9 - I use both every day.
Camera worked for me. Hotspot I didn't try, but it's the only thing listed as not working on Trip's build of CM9

Fair enough, and I don't disagree much. In Trips defense, he seems to have a rather large following singing his praises.
I only installed it for testing out GPS. I've gone back to ARHD with my own tweaks to trimming Sense.

No one is saying anything bad about him, just the guys here are open with the code that makes anyone able to help, stuff gets done faster.
Back on topic, with leedroid, pkmn and arhd(I think) you can remove sense and all its widgets and run any launcher you like.

If there was, it would be here. However, since your post is a request/question, it should either be in the General forum or Q&A. Please PM a Mod to have it moved .
There is a Sense 4.0a port in progress (Primo) - that's really your best bet, if you don't want Sense 3.5.

Why not? Is it not possible or something. Or is it that no one is interested in making it?
Yea none as of now, but i think a dev asked on a thread a while back agon if the people wanted a sense 3.6 rom. so we may get one pretty soon.
Plus, i would go with sense 4.0a when its done, since it'll run smoother on our older hardware than 3.6

PrimOG is sense 4a which is a stripped down version of sense 4. The htc one V(primo) has a 1ghz single core processor and 512mb of RAM just like the evo4g so in theory it should run faster then sense 3.6
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA
Sense 4.0a specifically. In other words, the primog rom. It would run smoother because sense 4.0a is what runs on the HTC One V, the lowest spec phone in the one series. The one v's specs are pretty much the same as the evo 4g. 512 ram, 1 ghz processor . I think 3.6 is made for phones with more ram than ours

So all you really need is a gingerbread AOSP rom, most likely cyanogenmod. UNLESS you WANT eyecandy, in which case Sense 4.0a has enough without sacrificing nearly as much power as 3.6 does.

Yes, I want the eyecandy but the sense 4.0a Rom won't work on my Evo so I'm waiting for it to be finished. Until then I'll be running sense 3.5 ROM
