[Q] Can't root v10f - LG Nitro HD

Hi, I just flash my phone with FW v10f from v10a. It work fine with some issue..no wifi and screen rotation. I try rooting the device to install CWM to flash CM9 or ICS. I am not able to root with any method. Superoneclickv2.3.2, Superoneclickv2.3.3, DooMLoRD_v4_, Unlockroot, SU640_ROOT, Gingerbreak, Z4root, manual method with adb shell... nothing work. I tried with formatted sd card and without sd. It is on debugging mod. I can communicate with the phone via adb but it say "permission denied" on su command. All root's program recognize my phone but it always end with "no luck..failed"
There is another kdz firmware that can be rooted?
Im on Android 2.3.5
Kernel 2.6.35.11+
Build GRj90
Software LGSU640-00-V10f

I think the most important part would be letting us know where it fails with the manual root for instance. I rooted that firmware yesterday with Doom's v4 after failed attempts with superoneclick, rootunlocker, and the manual method. I would recommend restarting your phone and pc if you havent tried to already. If all else fails, try a different computer or maybe just a different usb port.

I get "permission denied" on all command i put in adb shell. Itried everything, with another pc in all usb port and no luck..

Bad luck, root did not success. Its what i get on all root attempt.

how much times have you tried in a succession ?
i had unbricked my phone after flashing ics leak and to root v10f, it took around 11 attempts !
i tried superoneclick 8 times and then i goot root via unlockroot in 2-3 attempts !
so its completely uncertain when you would get rooted !
you just need to try till you get rooted !
also i have attached a zip file, extract it and try to root with that !
good luck..

I tried your files but it doesnt work. It keep saying me "permission denied" and "read only file system"

It is the 13 attempt now with TPSparkyRoot with no sign of change.

I think i 've just get it. I have superuser in app list. I cant understand why it can take x attemps to get root but i cant complaint....its works now!

It is not root at all. su=access denied. Im lost

when you connect you device to the pc, does it show in "adb devices" ?
i mean pls verify whether all drivers are installed properly !

Yes, it show "Androidnet sooner single adb interface". Now when i try to root i get "No such file or directory" on almost each line.

In manual root i get this:
adb shell rm /data/local/tmp/boomsh
rm failed for /data/local/tmp/boomsh, no such file or directory
adb shell ./data/local/zergRush
cannot copy boomsh : permission denied

Rush did it ! It's a GG, man !!!!!!
Now it's real!!!

4.0.4
Thanks for the extra root option.
I had my LG Optimus SU640 (same as Nitro HD) rooted and running 2.3.5, and just updated firmware to Android v4.0.4 today on the LG website. I'm in Korea.
I have tried everything under the sun to root my updated OS but i'm not getting anywhere.
Is it not possible to root this phone with the updated Android 4.0.4 OS at the moment?

[Q] Question about Flashing

Hi, I've got a Motorola Defy in Argentina (Carrier: Personal, means telecom). Well, I want to Root it, I've tryied z4mod, the ADB Method, 1 click, etc, and I still got the message "The application xxxx needs root user permissions", btw I have the Root (#) console in "adb shell", but I can't move files to /system/media (whit "AndExplorer" from mobile). Do I have to mount the FS there??
I've got the "Superuser" app working, and some applications whit "Root permissions" (because I've checked Remember my answer on the Popup when the app needs root privilegies)
Im a little bit confused because the version is not similar that you use here.
Version Number: JORLA_U3_6.14.7
Firmware version: 2.1-update1
So, I want to root it, and maybe upgrade to Froyo, but that questions make me scared (specially if i brick it).
What should I do?
PS: I've made a "Backup" with SystemRecovery app. This backup will work if I want to back my firmware to the stock one? (forgive the apps, I don't care).
Nobody can guarantee your backup will work, but it's a risk you'll have to take if you want to hack.
According to my search, your carrier uses UMTS 850 / 1900. This means you could have a different baseband firmware than the T-Mobile users here, and definitely different from the European users. The problem is, the only SBF files available are for European 900/2100.
So first things first, take a nandroid backup from the custom bootstrap recovery if you can get that working. Back up those files somewhere safe.
Read about the "3g fix". There is a folder containing the baseband firmware files, and you'll want to back those up in case you lose 3g on a custom ROM.
If your phone becomes unbootable, you'll have to flash an SBF to boot it, *then* root it again, install custom recovery again, and finally restore the nandroid backup.

Ok, thanks for the info. I've tryied to do a "nandroid backup" with the upgrade.zip stuff, but it just restarts and do nothing. I can't see any changes on my SDcard.
BTW, how I can run a .apk as root? (I want the AndExplorer to be root so I can copy some stuff to /system). I've got actually a root (#) terminal in adb shell and in Terminal emulator (via command su).
Thanks

How are you attempting to do this backup?
You need to download the bootstrap custom recovery, and use that to boot into the recovery menu. From there you go into backup/restore.
If you have successfully rooted your phone, then all apps have the opportunity to run as root. They should be able to make the request via Superuser Permissions, which would then prompt you.
Ok, but the bootstrap custom recovery is for 2.51 or similar firmware numbers, I've got 6.14. So, I really didn't test because I don't have experience with this things and I don't want to screw up all.
I tell you, for example, the Terminal Emulator runs on root when I run "su": Android requested Superuser permissions to me, and I ticked remember option, and now I can run "su" without the Superuser request.
BTW, I've got a root shell on adb (when I reboot the phone, I loose the root ). That means that is rooted??? (Got it using RATC)
Well, either it's compatible or it's not. If the bootstrap makes your phone unbootable... I guess you'll have to try for a warranty claim

Hahaha, I like to flash things and understand how it works, but in this case, I would prefer not screw nothing. Btw, I've buyed it on 15/jan.
So, for my other question the Terminal Emulator runs on root when I run "su": Android requested Superuser permissions to me, and I ticked remember option, and now I can run "su" without the Superuser request.
But when I restart the phone, I loose the # on "adb shell".
BTW, I've found the open source code of an earlier version of my defy on
opensource.motorola.com/sf/go/projects.moto_defy/frs.defy_latam
Anyone knowns how to compile this? I've got Debian lenny, Ubuntu 10.04, Ubuntu 10.10.
Thanks
Compiling a ROM yourself won't help if you can't sign it with Motorola's key. Yay locked bootloader...

Cocus,
I got the same phone as yours. Also from Personal.
And I am on the same situation, want to flash it, but not to brick it.
Let me know if you find out something ...
Hi, yes you can contact me via PM & I will send all the stuff that I've got. But I only get the rootshell via RageAgainstTheCage. When you reboot it you loose it, but you can use "su" or "rootshell" to get it again.
Now Im playing with C and C++ native code, with the ndk and sdk (no java ). Contact me
z4root worked in argentine (Latin American) defy.
Hi
I have a Motorola Defy like yours , (in Argentina - Carrier: Personal ).
I have rooted successfully using z4root 1.3.0 , that you can get from this post (look attached file at end ):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833953
With z4root 1.3 you have the option of get root temporarily or permanent. The first one doesn't works for me ( no errors but no root ). The permanent root yes, works like a charm .
Hi, It seems that is not working for me... I've touched the permanent option, it restarted and the z4root says that is rooted, but I haven't the root console in adb shell, neither the apps run as root.
Edit: If I try to run "su" on the non-root console($) it says "Permission denied". But, running "rootshell" from RATC, it gives me a root shell.

[Q] Problems unrooting and flashing desire z

Hi all,
I have had my htc desire z for about two weeks now, But since i have had my phone i've been having a few problems.
I had rooted my phone using visionary +. And all was going well untill i was trying to install setcpu to overclock my cpu. After installation my phone rebooted and now every thing that i need root access for is showing up as not accessable.
Busybox installer error message:
Your phone is roote
Busybox not found
The application failed, either because your device is not nand unlocked or we were unable to remount.
Rom manager error message:
An error occured while attempting to run priviledged commands!
Is it possible(if yes, how) to unroot and flash my desire back to stock settings including the permissions back to stock.
If not how can i root my phone so i can use all of the fuctions
Regarding the phone info the spaces are actually . but the system will not allow me to enter these as of yet
Thanks in advance
All the best
Gaz
I forgot to mension in the last post that i have expiriance with mobile phone's and flashing so i'm not affraid to tackle big complicated ways of undoing the process.
It sounds like maybe you only had temp root.
Did you also do gfree? I did Visionary and gfree, and perm rooted just fine.
However, many on here believe the rage + gfree method is safer, as Visionary has been known to create some semi-bricks. I don't THINK there is any harm in doing rage + gfree at this point, but others on here can probably enlighten.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Vision#Rooting_the_Vision_.28G2.2FDZ.29_and_DHD
I tried using root checker to find the issue. It came back with an error message telling me the SU binary was not found in the correct path. I used terminal emulator to try to locate the file but with no success. Any ideas on how to find and move the binary su???
What's displayed on your screen after reboot in recovery?
As in; remove battery, insert battery, hold volume down and power button.
It will not reboot in to root. It runs Visionary and nothing happens.
And when i try to open an app that need root access it fails because it cannot gain permission from superuser. At this point i have tried to unistall all apps that had anything to do with rooting my phone but still no succes. I need to find the stock SU Binary

[Q] Rooting g2 help

okay so im rooting my brothers g2, and im coming across alot of really odd issues ive never encountered before with rooting. i've followed all the steps for temp and perm root for this phone, but it still doesnt give me su. i have superuser on the phone from pushing it via adb, but it doesnt work. the phone in hboot says its the eng build with s-off. but again i dont get any su in cmd so i cant do anything. superuser doesnt work so i cant install clockwork via rom manage, and su doesnt work in cmd so i cant manually push the image. any idea or tips would be nice because im so lost. i have rooted several phones before and none had this issue.

Have you tried just downloading it from the Market? http://market.android.com/details?id=com.noshufou.android.su

yeah and i dont see how that makes it any different than when its put on during the root process. the problem seems to be that it doesnt wanna let me write things to the phone.i get errors like "cannot create /system/bin/su': input/output error" "unable to chmod /system/bin/su: no such file or directory" when i push the /data/local/tmp/root_psn.
just cuz this blows my mind...
gfree verify_cid returned:
@CID: 11111111
OK
gfree verify_secu_flag returned:
@secu_flag: 0
OK
gfree verify_simlock returned:
@SIMLOCK= 00
OK
thats how my phone reads for the gfree verify, im fully s-offed, but i cant do su from adb shell it says
su
su: not found

Unless you set up a system path to adb, you need to have both su and adb in the same folder to be able to push it, sounds like what your problem is
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
everything is in the same folder in androidsdk. but i got it working, just in a much different fashion. since i already had eng build and s-off but no su functioning i decided to format the phone which still had superuser but i installed visionary gained temp access to root and flashed cwr from rom manager and installed cm7, and now its fully functioning as perm root and s-off.

[SOLVED] Fixing an usb brick w/o root, Gringerbread RUU?

Hi guys,
After a lot of trouble (I will not mention them but it was a long pain for me and my desire!) I've finally unbricked my phone BUT usb doesn't work anymore.
I learn that it's called usb-brick.
Sadly, Exhausted from this fight with my device, I've mistakenly installed RUU from htc with gingerbread. And with the new bootloader 1.02.0001.
Problem: I have not find any method to root the phone without the need of usb link with the installed rom.
I hoped to do it when I read about Gingerbreak but infortunatly, it doesn't work with htc version of GB.
Moreover, because the exploit of revolutionary is not known I can not exploit it directly on the phone.
So, I need root for usb unbrick, but I need usb for having root :'(
Is there a way to root my device without needing this usb link?
(Of course, I can access fastboot usb.)
Have anyone an idea?
I know, it's a tricky question... But I have really no idea what to do...
Thanks,
Dvad'
My problem is solved if I can become s-off.
Do I really need a rom with usb connection working in order to S-off my devices?
Fastboot via USB isn't enough? I tried with revolutionary says "waiting for device" forever.

Do this:
-extract this on ur computer (its a "portable" version of adb)
-install this widget from the market, it allow to use adb over wifi (without cable)
-try this local root exploit by revolutionary (its work even on 2.3)
after u get temp root, use the flash_image method to flash the misc partition (as for every guide for usb brick fix)
EDIT: Sorry the widget on the market requires root to work..hmm
send it to htc repair, tell they after the upgrade with their 2.3.3 ruu, ur usb stopped working..maybe u get free repair under warranty
My problem is solved!
In fact andQlimax were right! The idea is to run adb with a wifi connection.
Wifi over adb needs root. I don't understand why because this method doesn't need root:
1° Type this In android terminal. it configure the phone to run adb over tcp.
setprop service.adb.tcp.port 5555
stop adbd
start adbd
Click to collapse
2°Connect your htc on a wifi network
3° on the pc run:
adb tcpip 5555
adb connect ip-of-the-phone-on-your-wifi-network:5555
Click to collapse
You can access adb shell, have Temp root with zergRush, and flash your mtd0.img.
Problem solved!

I've got this exact problem, but I can't get the WiFi ADB to work. I've got the official Gingerbread RUU installed and the USB is dead outside of fastboot. The terminal on the phone accepts the commands without issue and connecting to WiFi is fine, but my PC just won't find it for some reason. Ideas? I don't fancy an out-of-warranty repair.

Nope, nothing like that is even installed on my PC at the moment. adb devices gives me "List of devices attached" and then an empty line. Is the terminal on the phone meant to return anything when you enter above commands? For me, it simply goes to an empty line when enter the command and doesn't state whether or not is was successful.

well, after searching this on internet seems that to be able to do this:
setprop service.adb.tcp.port 5555
stop adbd
start adbd
you need root...so I don't know how the previous user, davmoi, managed to do that..
so in my opinion there is no way to use adb over wifi without root..and there is no way to root the desire with gb 2.3.3 without adb..and without root there is no way to restore usb brick..
call htc and say they that after the 2.3.3 update ur usb is gone..(as u was just flashing their ruu, u should get repair under warranty)

Pretty much what I figured.
I've spoken to HTC and apparently they consider use of the 2.3.3 update to void the warranty as they've put up several warnings and such on the website... which is pretty crap. I'm guessing it won't be too much work for them to just re-flash it though. As long as I can make this phone last until MSM8960 chips hit the market, I'm happy. Never using Amon Ra again though.
Cant enable adb-WIFI connection. List of devices is empty. Think u need root
Need solution without root!
I have no bill (EBay..) to send it to HTC.
Strange, I swear I was not rooted when I used these command lines. (Superuser and titanium was saying that. And it was on a stock 2.3 rom so....
I simply enter them in Android terminal emulator with a user shell.
Can you ping your phone on your wifi network from your computer?
Dvad'
Edit: I think that if we needed root the phone would say "operation not permitted" when you enter the command. The problem seems to be elsewhere.

Maybe, but in that case, I was able to root a completly stock Gingerbread RUU without adb... And without knowing it!

And if it is the case I can not say how, because I have done a lot of tries with my phone, and I don't remember all of them..

Help with unrooting

I cannot get a response from the original thread that is stickied so I figured I would ask here. I am currently s-off and on Froyo. Everytime I try to install a ROM it just bootloops. The only one that actually works in Kangdamnation (sp). I would love to do UKB but it bootloops as soon as the lockscreen pops up on first boot. I have the HTC extended battery, althought I doubt that has anything do to with these issues. I have tried to go back to s-on so I can get a new phone sent to me under warranty but am stuck.
Code:
adb devices (make sure ADB sees your phone if not, this is an appropriate time to ask for help :))
adb root
adb remount
adb push hboot_0.97.0000_336906.nb0 /data/local/
STOP HERE! If you're a dummy and didn't install Busybox with your SuperOneClick, download a Busybox Installer app from the Market and install it to /system/xbin/.
Once I get to this point the adb will find and show my phone but once i type in the adb root it says "adbd cannot run as root in production builds and if i try to continue to remount it says "remount failed: Operation not permitted"
I have checked to insure that busybox and root was installed with the superoneclick program
Please someone help me. Also, when i type in su to the cmd (i run it as admin) it says not allowed.
