This discovery was totally an accident. I had screwed up my LED, so I took my Evo apart to clean the grill out. I put the cover on and noticed that it fit damn near perfectly for the first time.
All you have to do is loosen the screws around the edges of the phone. You may have to tweak all of them, or just a few of them. It just depends on how your case fits. You'll have to mess around with it and figure out what works best for your device.
You will need a Torx T5 screwdriver!
If you don't have one, you can get one on iFixit. The screwdriver itself is $4.95, plus $2.83 shipping I think. But, if you use any of the coupon codes off RetailMeNot you can save $5, so basically you get it for the $2.83 shipping cost. I used the code "90308fixit" although it may or may not work for you. Like I said there are a bunch more on there that people say work.
As usual, YMMV. If you screw up your Evo, break something, stab straight through your thumb with the screwdriver, etc etc, it isn't my fault. If you blame me, I will laugh at you. Just because it works for me, doesn't mean it'll work for you.
Br0tip: There is a tiny black sticker on the middle screw on the left side. It doesn't say anything, but it's there. If you break it or remove it, you won't have a warranty. I can't show you a pic because I had to remove mine to get the whole case open, but consider yourself warned.
Let me know how it works for y'all. I know it's made my Evo a LOT more comfortable to hold.
Thanks for the tip. My experience has indicated that the fit has more to do with the battery cover than the phone itself. I have two stock battery covers: one black and the other white. The latter one came with my white Evo and fits very poorly. Tons of give/movement. The former, which I purchased to give my Evo the Oreo look, fits perfect. Solid as a rock. So if you don't want to mess with the your phone itself, you may try swapping out the cover.

I had noticed that too. My original Evo it fit perfectly, then I had to get it swapped & since I had carbon fiber on my cover I kept my old cover. It didn't fit as well on the new Evo. It seems they fit one Evo almost perfectly, but any others & it gets rought.
I messed with mine some more this morning, and the thing that seems to affect it the most is that all the screws are screwed in exactly the same depth.
why do u guys like to spend so much money lol
i bought the full kit from dealextrme for 2.45
Card trick
I put a folded business card between the battery and the cover and fits really well cant even notice that the card is there. But boy does it make a difference
Thanks for the tip GeniusDog! I have a white evo, and the battery cover always bulged a little bit towards the middle of the phone making the battery cover creak a little bit. All I had to do was loosen the top and bottom screws a little bit, and Its perfect
If you are like me, you already think that the Evo is a big enough phone..so why would you add a case? Well, after dropping my phone and its corner being dented i started looking at something to help me out. I wanted something cheap, but i wanted something that was good quality. So i started to browse ebay, and i found this. I got it today after ordering it on Thursday (fast shipping, from California!), and i love it so far. It comes in two pieces, one for the back and one for the front (you need both in order to use the case). It feels good, its slim, and i love that i can put it in my pocket without it pulling them out! The one i ordered is a metallic red with sparkles in it, and i love it.
Some temporary pictures here
I need to get better ones as this doesn't actually show the good color quality on it. If you have any questions just let me know.
Sorry if this has already been asked, but the search function is down right now.
I'd LOVE to have a wood or bamboo case for my Vibrant like the way these iphone cases are made: grovemade.com
Anyone have a lead or know someone that will make custom cases out of wood or bamboo?
wow i went to that site and all i can say is wow. that is amazing. i have never seen anything like that for the vibrant but if you find anything let me know! i'm thinkiing of trying it out myself, i'm may be able to make something liek that, minus the laser engraving, it would be just wood, simple but could be cool.
woooooooow. That plain wood amber case is soooo tight. i would definately drop the cash to have one of those that thing looks amazing. My guess would be it would be way more difficult to do a case for the vibrant tho. Iphone 4 is pretty simple and symmetrical. Vibrant is curvy, and has that hump on the bottom of it, i like the way it looks but making a case out of bamboo would be difficult.
It would be GREAT to see some Android logos and guys on that. Wonder how well it holds up to water (washing it) and dropping (breakage)....
If it's Oak im sure it can take a fall its really tough not like that pine crap. As long as it has a good finish on it like Polycrylic or some type of clear coat, it'll be water-proof. I'm definately interested in something like this, I would make one but sadly I don't have access to any woodshop equipment anymore.
ok guys, i posted a week ago that i was thinking about trying to make one of these, and i'm pretty serious about it now. I'm no expert, but i've helped build a few houses and random jobs here and there so i've worked with wood alot. Never anything this small and precise though. I've been gathering up tools and bits for the wood work and i'm about to get started. I can't find any bamboo but i'm probably gonna use oak...we'll see how it goes, may take a week, may take 23 years, who knows. I'll definately post pics when i'm done though. the trickiest part is definately gonna be the hump on the back at the bottom.
I sure hope they start making these. those things are sexy
Never mind.
iPhone gets all the cool accessories -_-

well call me a fashionista becuz i want some cases that actually look decent on my vibrant.. no just some generic stuff.
If it's just the look you want why not try vinyl shelf paper/contact paper? That stuffs pretty durable, cheap and you can get it in oak, bamboo, whatever you want.
Go green guys! Save the environment.
Environment my ass.
Email them at [email protected] and ask them to consider making wooden cases for the Vibrant. More people that contact them, meaning more potential customers, the more reason they would consider making it for us.
Back case?

Better than nothing I guess.

you mean wood veneer? like wood skin right? I've used the stuff on little boxes I've made and it looks beautiful but the tricky part is when you glue it to the wood you want to put it on top of you need something HEAVY to be on top of the ENTIRE thing otherwise it has air pockets and curls up with makes it a real ***** to fix.
but I want real wood! So if I'm about to jinx something, I can knock on my phone.

Hey man keep us all updated!
You'd be QUITE popular here if you can pull it off!

If someone started making these, i would definitely go in on buying one. I'm pretty bummed that all the high quality cases and accessories are only for iphone, where's the android love??
^
Apple = 1 design
Android = multiple designs and different manufacturers
It's a good and bad thing for us.
I just got the seidio case and hate it. I would love to see a legit case like the one in the op too.
Hey Guys,
I am wondering if there is a aftermarket kickstand out there that I can replace the OEM kickstand with. I like the OEM one but i would love it if it were square at the end and not round and also stiffer so it can stand up right too. I have done a google search and have found nothing except cases that have kickstands incorporated. I have a great casemate barely there case and dont want to replace it. If anyone has any leads please point me towards that direction. Also if anyone reading this post has the ability to manufacture something like this, consider it?.
I too am looking for one. Mine was open when I dropped it and now it wobbles..ugh.
OP: I've never seen an aftermarket one.

This includes a new kickstand.
yea someone needs to come out with a new kickstand... I'm surprised no one has asked about this. the round tip of the stock kickstand doesn't give the evo the best stablility will deployed...
Is it easily removable? If so could you remove just the kickstand and then grind down the circular tip til it is squared off? Or maybe melt it into the form of a square or something? i dunno just an idea =D

Couldn't find one so I made it. I have trouble reaching accross the screen on my HTC One and OneXL and kept dropping it. I noticed tablets have cases with a strap and my phone needed one.
I bought a Rocketfish slim as he'll hard case and put a thin hole right under the camera eye, just tilted a little to fit my grip. Took a piece of Velcro strap ran it through the hole and around a bottom grove I also cut slightly.
This has been something I've done with every phone since my One XL and can't live without it. I can drive , walk, run, kick the dog, and never drop it.
I can reach the other side of the screen and the power button on top. Then twirl it around like Jesse James and holster it. Ha!
Cheap, easy!

thats the best you could possibly get. the HD version which arguably differentiates color better than the stock screen wiped clean.

It is black.... its the M7 At&t version. I dont think its anything special. Put a invisishield on it. that strap is the best thing Ive ever had for any cell phone.

this is better than the fly grip.. actually if I started producing this case mod I would put that poor little company out of business.. This is the best mod or any accessory that Ive ever had for any cell phone. It holds my phone on my finger and I can use wireless charging and NFC. Flygrip didnt think that far ahead. An accident that I cant live without now..
