Just curious but is there a way to disable dual core here in the epic world?? I know we had scripts in 3d land but just wandering if there was a script here somewhere

Just curious bro that's all also I don't use my phone for high end stuff so I assume with dual core its just eating more battery than single core.......just curious that's all man ....maybe ill get an extended cause my battery life is just ok at the moment

Get cpuspy from google play and see how long your phone is in deep sleep. You might have a wakelock or misbehaving app.

Actually, it does the opposite. Because the second core allows it to finish processes faster, it sends it back into sleep quicker as well. The amount of power used by both cores in the completion is most likely less than for a single core to do the same. I have seen overclock kernels on dual core devices that allow for independent control over each core. It requires source, I'm sure.
Intel disagrees that dual-core helps. http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/2182710/intel-claims-android-ready-multi-core-processors

Intel is also releasing a single core mobile processor, though I doubt it has any influence whatsoever over this article.

I gathered that they feel that chip manufacturers have been lazy in optimizing the utilization of multiple cores. Speaking from someone who has developed on systems specifically designed by Intel, I can attest that they put great effort into maximizing efficiency. Even in their software, the Intel compiler suite is very nice.
Agreed.
There is an application in the market that shows when the second core runs. It only kick on every once and a while when needed..

Better gpu and higher clocked CPU...

Laughing at the people who jumped ship to Verizon. Hows that 2gb cap workin for ya and your inferior phone? I told y'all to wait.
The 544 GPU has the capability of clocking up to 2.5 times faster than the 540. If this is true, then I'll be excited. But... I'm not switching to an lte device until lte hits my area.

I think this is the same gpu in the Apple products, which pretty much destroy everything we have. I welcome this and I'd jump ship so fast!

Does anyone remember the Nexus ads for Sprint that said 1.5 ghz and we thought it was a typo? I know it is just alot of speculation. But, since we probably won't see the phone launch until June it could make sense. The article said the processor is capable of 1.8 but would probably be underclocked. Maybe we are seeing an early build for the Sprint version. Anyone else think that makes sense?
Here is a link to the Sprint ad.
http://www.anandtech.com/show/5303/sprint-ad-announces-galaxy-nexus-with-15-ghz-soc
And here is link to the wiki for the Nexus that shows it its currently running 1.2
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galaxy_Nexus
The other possibility is this its the google tablet we keep hearing about. It would make sense for it to have a huge graphics processor.

Until they replace the awful screen of the original GNex, I'll way. The 'mesh' look is too distracting to look at.
Since nobody had mentioned it, it seems like it isn't important, the camera. Compared to the e4gt, its camera is lesser. Slightly bigger screen and higher resolution but reported its like looking through a screen door. A 5mp camera that chokes on 1080p. No option for a sd card. You will be stuck on 3g until lte finally makes it to your area. Okay so it has a slightly better and faster gpu and cpu, IMO, that's one of the few things it has in its favor. Ics, more meh. You'll need more CPU/GPU for that.
For the comment of having a CPU that's faster than you, that means nothing about your computer, right?
Yea just like the 5mp camera on og epic was better than of evo ... it was but guess what everyone thinks 8mp is better but it comes to sensor and such .... it still is a phone not a dslr the camera will never be that good

Are there any settings which could help in keeping the phone from heating?

Nope afraid not. This would be caused by the 4 processors giving you that performance.
Just think of the winter months when it's cold!!

I made this app that can help with the overheating issue. It allows you to disable/enable the processors cores
Edit: It would help if I posted the link - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1652136 ><

isn't it kind of pointless to disable the other cores? and besides there is the fifth core that manages the load...

The 5th core only runs in deep sleep, disabling 2 cores makes phone run cooler and is still smooth only way you can tell is from bench marks.

Not if you don't want to burn your hands when playing games!
Not sure if it has much of an effect on battery life, but the temperature drops quite drastically with 2 cores disabled.

It has a great effect on battery life:
A friend of
Mine at my local AT&T parrot store told me the new Gs4 will have eight processors and a 12mgb camera anybody hear the same??
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
Well the news is an eight core processor is likely...actually its gonna be two 4-cores...one at 1.8ghz for higher end performance and the other at 1.2ghz and can swap to this one for most daily use to save battery..and I believe a 13mp rear camera..all if this is officially still speculation but looks quite possible
Sent from my SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2
Not all the eight cores simultaneously - so its essentially not a octa core processor - $ at a time . Either 4*cortex a15 for performance oe 4*cortex a7 for efficiency/battery life . Moreover your friend at at&t is just another regular tech blog vsitor - this is a relatively old news not something he found out/leaked to you
He didn't leak anything to me we were just talking about when the new phone would be out. I'm excited about it I'll be ready for an upgrade about the time it comes out.

Usually forcing the use of GPU does cause a difference in battery life, but the difference is unnoticeable. Maybe half a millisecond less of battery life.
Edit: My info may be wrong. I just read this in ICS days in a similar thread.

It should increase battery life since hardware acceleration usually means less stuff for the CPU to process which equals power savings.

I enable it on every ROM i use after ramping up GPU to 384 without really thinking about it. Always has been solid for me. And yeah, im gonna say that it doesnt do a 'whole' lot for battery. But hey, another 5% on a charge? I'll take it.

I would say maybe any task manager that'll show cpu usage pet app. Something hogging the cpu would be your culprit, I imagine, assuming it is a certain app or process. Just my guess.

When your phone is heating up its usually heavy use or bad signal. Is the battery draining unusually fast as well?
