While editing the SoftKeys, I usually add a Meny key. Having the touch system sounds on, when you click on the Menu Key, a double sounds pops out instead of a single sound pop. On AOKP 38 or even on other customizable roms with softkey customization.
Is it only me?
I turn my sounds off because they cause wake locks.. next time I am in AOKP I will try it out.

Yup, I get the same annoying double sound/vibrate, If you're talking about the softkey farthest to the right. On all of the customer rom I've used. And I've used about a dozen different roms on this Galaxy Nexus. Thought the problem would be fixed on Jelly Bean but I guess not.

Curious if there are any current roms that have decided that google was smoking something with there "no menu button but yet it's still there sorta" idea and put the full menu button back in the navigation bar and turned the recent apps into just a long press of the home button?
I'm not a fan of the little menu button in the corner, I use it way to much.
And if there are no roms out there with this, this is then me making a simple request for this as a possible option.
aokp or gummy have added "real" menu button. Not sure of any others.
good day.

It was added to aokp 3 or 4 builds ago.
good day.
BAMF opted for a cleaner look and made recent apps long press for menu.
I'm running Gummy and can confirm that option is there. Personally I haven't added the menu button, but I did add the search button back because it is really convenient to long press it to bring up voice commands.

i _think_ i know what you are referring to, the toggle switches in cm9-reloaded right?
if so, that's the only cm9 mod that offers that and at this time, it does not work, the dev has recently said he is rebuilding the whole whirliebird and apparently won't be updating the current v

On-Screen Buttons on CM9, like the Nexus
well i guess i don't know what you are talking about, the screen cap you added doesn't have any onscreen buttons, at least what i consider onscreen buttons.

It's the three icons at the bottom...they're literally generated on the screen itself

The bottom three icons on the screen. Those are present on the Galaxy Nexus because it doesn't have any hardware buttons (back, home, menu, or search). He's asking for that on Nitro, even though the Nitro does have hardware buttons.
I'm guessing there is a way to override the default setting and enable them, but I'm not sure.
nevermind is not for cm9 nightlies

Been searching around, but couldn't find anything directly on this issue--
Is there any way to decrease the time that you need to hold the Home button to get the multitasking menu to pop up? As a side note, I've already disabled animations in the Developer Options, which helps to cut the time that it takes for the multitasking menu to become usable.
Thanks in advance.

well idk if this will be useful, but just use a gesture on a launcher to open up the multitasking menu. I didn't like how long the delay was either so now all I have to do is pinch n zoom with apex launcher and it opens it up.

Disable S-Voice if you're not using it , it adds about half a seconds to long press waiting for double click action.
Its under S-Voice settings menu , and or just freeze the whole application.

I've been considering that, but I generally don't like mucking with launchers. We'll see, though--thanks for the suggestion.

Do you mean disabling the double-tap to launch or the entire application? The former doesn't seem to impact the multitasking menu launch delay, and I'd rather not go with the second option.

no problem I hope you find a solution!
Anyone have additional ideas on this? Thanks!
I read that Wanam was working on a "no home button lag", coming son I guess.Keep an eye on the dev forum during the week to see if it pops up. I know it will sooner or later.
The JB roms we have have virtually no delay for the recent app window.
'Button Savior', I liked it so much I ended up getting the paid version. There is a free version to try. This allows me so much control without having to beat up my hardware buttons. Even the volume. Use it with a different launcher or not. It works either way.

I think that was applicable only to short-pressing the menu button (disabling double-tap to launch Siri gets rid of this delay anyways), and not the long-press Recent Apps menu, unfortunately.
Hey all,
I disabled the lockscreen on my arc because I found that with my case I don't have any issues with pocket dials and etc.
However now to turn on my screen I prefer to press the home button (rather then the unlock button on top). But whenever I press this button I find 9 times out of 10 the screen turns on, has lag for 1-5 seconds, then the recent apps drawer opens up. It does this even if I just tap the home button when its off. It seems when the phone is sleeping it thinks my quick press of the home button is a long press (causing the drawer to open up)
Is there any way to disable the recent apps from popping up? Or possible change the button that opens it? I am using Apex launcher and I don't see this as an option in there, I would like to stick with the same launcher if I can avoid changing.
Thanks everyone.
Edit: Sorry mods, meant to post this in Q & A
Anyone have any ideas? I am not finding much by searching.

im not sure try to look at /SYSTEM/USR/KEYLAYOUT/pm8058-keypad.kl (dont know if the name is that also for u) but this will change all option for a specif key. look other file around there in tht folder. i never did im sorry
There is also the Generic.kl file with all buttons and their function, the 102 is the home if im not wrong and the 139 the menu. Try to look if u find something like a line where it say that the 102 open the recent app and give it to someone. i dont have idea if this work xD

Hey there, sorry it took me a bit to get back to you.
So I went and tried this to no avail. Searched almost every file/folder (keyword search) for home, hold, and recent. It came up with nothing that looked any different then the other stuff. I am sort of thinking I am out of luck here.
Unless there is a way to edit my CPU settings to make it boot faster from sleep (thus preventing it from lagging/thinking I am holding the button?)
First off, let me say that I love that the G3 comes with a setting to hide the soft keys. The only complaint I have is it takes too long to go away once you bring it up. If you don't know what I mean go into an application bring it up and go home and see how long it stays.
I used an application called UND Navbar and it works great, you can choose to hide the bar as soon as you press a button. The only downside is the fact that you can't use the split screen and other button combinations the g3 has, you're stuck with the traditional soft keys.
Is anyone aware of an app or an Xposed Module that would allow me to have the navigation bar hide once I click one of the buttons?

Hey dude i was using UND aswell problem is its quite slow, and often it glitches or buttons dont work.
I tried many methods, by far the best one is "Auto hide soft keys" off the market - its VERY snappy and you can adjust the miliseconds for it to minimize OR just get it to minimize once you hit the key.

UND was lightning fast for me but the problem was it doesn't give you the split screen and drop down options that the lg soft keys have. It's the same problem with GMD.

Go to the recents window, select Dual Window - Slide first app UP - slide 2nd app DOWN, use as normal, touch the bottom when you want the nav bar to reappear.
Okay, that makes sense. I feel pretty stupid right now considering I see that option every single time I go to the recents window.
