iPhone Headphone to Galaxy S3 converter cable? - Galaxy S III Accessories

Anyone know a cable converter that will work for the Galaxy S3 (like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/3-5mm-iPhon...e-Samsung-HTC-LG-/140574981373#ht_3686wt_1163)
I have Klipsch S4i headphones that have volume control for the iPhone only. I want to use these headphones with FUNCTIONAL volume control with the Galaxy S3.

If you find one, let me know. This is one of my major gripes with Samsung. I managed to get headphones working with my Samsung Galaxy S using a Nokia headphone remote control, but this doesn't work on the SIII.
Why can't they just use the same standard as everyone else.
Or possibly sell an adaptor, and educate their store staff - went to the popup Samsung store in Spitalfields Market (London) today and they had no idea what I was talking about. The sales assistant finally admitted that his headphones don't work with his S2 either. But was clueless as to how to help.
?!?!

this i would really like!
i`ve got a pair of beats headphones and they did not work at all with my first sgs
but now with the s3, the centre button works, answering calls, pausing and skipping tracks, and the mic also works, but the volume doesn`t...

Yeah the S4i also has a working center button but no functioning volume control (which is what I mostly use...don't really care about a mic)
The other adapter I looked at is called Fiio LU2 but I have not seen anyone specifically use it for the SG3.
http://www.fiio.com.cn/product/index.aspx?ID=38&MenuID=020303

still nothing?

Hey,
I have just brought the Fiio adapter,
ill let you know about the results

Hey. Is it the Fiio LU2? I wanted to get that but did not know if would work.
Waiting to get your input!
Thanks!

LU2 doesn't work
Hi there, I just bougth the fioo lu2 cable and it doesn't work with the s3. I'm sending it back to amazon. I have sony headphones and even for me everything works except the volume controls. With the lu2 connected, nothing works and the audio is all "push-pull" (I hope that is how you say that in english).
So don't buy it!

Yeah it's nice, but for 30$ I think I can buy a pair of headset as good as my Sony.
Btw,yesterday I try using them again and another thing I noticed is that even if the sound quality is waaaaay better with my Sony, the volume is much more lower than the included Samsing's. So it's not only a matter of the voulme button not working. And today I'm back with the Samsung's...

Yeah, I wont mind paying $30 to get my Pro's working properly with my sweet phone..

Hmm...the ones that come with the S3 have volume control. I hope some headphone manufacturers can reverse-engineer it. I think it has to do with how the parts of the jack are arranged. Because I know on the iPhone the ground part is switched.

Klipsch S4i Reference w/ Mic
I just tried using my Klipsch S4i Reference w/ Mic headphones and the center button + ear buds work but the volume and microphone do not work. I'd appreciate it if anyone discovers an adapter that converts iPhone headphones to work with the Samsung Galaxy S III. Anybody know why it is this way? I've compared the Samsung headphone jack to the Kilpsch ones and I don't see much of a difference...

well, I can change tracks in power amp with that button click option, not in the normal player. In that, the centre button plays/pauses the track.
How did you manage to change the volume on the s3?

10.00 adapter
For 10.00 you can buy the Meelec ADPTR-TRRS-35. I would post the link, but I cant because I'm a new user. If you just type it in to Google, it'll show up. Also, if you're good with soldering, you can buy the tips and solder them yourself. I bought gold plated and its lasted me years with my original galaxy.

Why does it say on the site ``This adapter will not enable the mic/volume buttons of a 3-button Apple compatible headset to work with non-Apple devices``?

I am toying with taking the buds off my iphone headphones ( i like the buds not the in ear stuff) and soldering them to the samsung cable... i know it might be sacrlidge to do so with more expensive headphones but... dangerous times... drastic measures and such.....

I have a rogers s3 rooted running CM 10 and the headphones NOW work. Function keys all working correctly So this was clearly a software limitation.

While I was in Samsung country last month (Seoul), I went to a few headphone/audio retail shops which let you test out almost ANY brand of headphones you'd like--and apparent this has been a big issue for Samsung users (since most volume control + mic headphones out there are built to work for and certified for use with Apple). One method they taught me (aside from rooting and hacking ROMs), was to download this app called "JAYS". This app will somehow allow the microphones to work on many brands (I use Sennheisers personally) whereas it would not work before due to the different in impedance. The app also creates shortcuts using the working center button, allowing short/long keypresses to do quite a lot (i.e. short press + long press will lower volume, double short press will skip tracks, etc) by turning the center button (which works on MOST headphoens) into a morse code-like button.
I have yet to find a ROM out there that allows my Sennheisers (MM80i, MM70i) to work with the volume buttons, but I've been happy with the JAYS app.

I have to ask... why wouldn't they? It's a standard, after all.
Or do you have some other definition of "work"?
there's a ton of stuff out there that's better and cheaper than the iPhone buds. But I guess if you have nothing else to use...
i dont like htc issued headsets. theyre too long and too big for my ears. i never liked em.
I'm pretty sure they would, maybe not the volume buttons but the single press for pause double for skip and triple for previous has worked on a few blackberries I've had. So I don't see why not

If the OP was asking about the ones with the integrated volume controls... those are proprietary to Apple. There's no reason they would work on an Android phone.
I dont see why they wouldnt work, They do in my other android device. I personally like mine because I sleep streaming music and they are comfortable in my ear when I roll my head. (the mic works too)

I doubt the volume control on any of the headphones meant for an iPhone is gonna work on an Android device... But if you just want a good quality pair of headphones with great SQ and a mic, there's plenty of choices out there. I just bought the MEElectronics M9P straight from their site for $23 w/S&H (coupon code "SHIPPING_COUPON" knocked a few bucks off shipping). They should be a nice upgrade from my Sennheiser CX300 which are 4 years old and still kicking, but I wanted something w/a mic.
I've got a pair of JVC HA-FX34 which I use to exercise (less cord noise than the CX300) and by most accounts the MEElec's should be an upgrade over that as well... Just throwing it out there since I know they're fairly common headphones at retail, might be a point of reference. Head-Fi.org is a great resource for this kinda stuff. Other popular choices are the NuForce NE-7M, Maximo iP-HS5, Apple's own dual driver IEMs, etc. Most of those are $40-50 tho and the M9P seemed like a great value judging by the many comparisons between them and some of the pricier competition.
Newegg's selling the M9P as well btw, FWIW (as is Amazon).
Meelectronics makes some great stuff. I have their M6's, which are straight earbuds, fantastic SQ for the money spent. The M9s are supposed to be an amazing bang for the buck if you need a mic.
i saw these bad boys on sale earlier:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001DERZK0/
i think it's what i'm going to go with
I'm really hoping the mic works with the iPhone earbuds cause I know that they didnt work on the HTC Hero which was disappointing... it recognized it as a headset but no audio in worked.

im hoping it works. ordered a pair already.
I have a pair of V-Moda (Faze) earphones / mic and use them on my Hero (and Pre) all the time... I'd say u should be good to go with those. SN: They sound great, BTW (but one of my earphones stopped working :-( .. but I'm sending them in for a warranty replacement )
http://www.v-moda.com/headphones/faze.aspx
**The Play/Stop button works too BTW
From what I've experienced (on the Hero at least), is that the iPhone headphones work for your music and its recognized as a headset but the microphone is not functional. I guess the jack isnt touching the right connectors or something. From the display model of the EVO, it looks a little more promising... I hope they work. I have Shure headphones meant for the iPhone but I wanna use them on my EVO!
The apple earphones don't work on Nokias too. The mic ring is positioned differently compared to standrad earphones with mic.
Has anyone tried using the mic?

[Q] Headphones and micro issue

Precisions:
- the button never works
- with the basic headphones, sound is ok
It took me a lot of reading to know what the issue was. Apparently:
Apple and RIM (makers of BlackBerry) use the same headphone configuration, meaning their 3.5 headphones with remotes will work between themselves.
On the other hand...
Samsung and Nokia have their wirings a bit different. Opposite you could say. So headphones with mics that work on a BlackBerry/iPhone, will never work on a Samsung/Nokia, and vice versa.
You can try buying one of the authentic remote/adapter on eBay and give it a try, but take heed, the sound quality will suffer a bit, and expect a VERY LONG CORD.
I miss the remote system on the BlackBerry/iPhone very much. Double click on the remote to skip the track, triple click to rewind, click to pause, and click to answer the phone. Such convenience has spoiled me, but not so much to abandon Android. Why developers cannot incorporate this features into Android, I do not know.
I have since then found a way to re-live the convenience by simply using earphones without a remote.
I have the exact same issue with my Zagg Earbuds with mic. When i press the mic button and keep pressing it the sound is perfect otherwise I hear no bass and no voice of the song.
This is really a bad joke this wiring.

Tell me about it. Nokia and Samsung, instead of embracing the competition, have decided that 3rd part manufacturers NEED to make special versions of their iPhone-ready wares. It's annoying as hell I tell you.
This happend to me too!, with the stock Samsung earbuds :/
It doesn't matter so much to me because I use a Sony MDR-EX500SL that's works very well.

quality headsets with microphone

I looking to buy a quality headsets with microphone that will be compatible with my Galaxy S2.
I am thinking to buy the Zagg smurtbuds.
Do you know if they will work with the Galaxy S2? will the sound be good? the microphone will work? the controller will work with the Galaxy S2 player?
If this headsets are not compatible with the Galaxy S2, do you know about other alternatives?

Could you please elaborate. I'm pretty new to this so I apologize.
How would this work? Through bluetooth? RF signal?
Haven't bought any of the brands above so am not sure.
Also what kind of adapter with remote do I need to buy? (Name?)
Any links if possible would be great for both.
Thanks in advance!

Get a SonyEricsson MW600 bluetooth adaptor and plug any headphone you want in. It has Play, Pause, Back, Forward, Volume buttons and microphone. Problem solved.
Thanks for the quick response - will check them out. Which earphone would you say is the best on audio quality for listening to music (as well as using it for handsfree)?

The problem with Bluetooth remote's is that the audio stream get's compressed, so that kinda defeats the purpose of getting high end ear/headphones. As technology stands today, wired is the only way to go for achieving the best sound quality.
I suppose the real question is this:
For ear/headphone microphone sets that we know work with the SGS2 (such as the one that came in the box) which have four connectors, I suppose the next thing to try is to see whether or not ear/headphones designed for iPhones will work correctly. If iPhone designed headphones work properly (including all controls etc.) then this makes finding a decent pair of working earphones a HELL of a lot easier.
I think that the headsets that comes with the device are quality, dont you think so ?
yesterday i bought the "Bose MIE2" and they are just great.
link for the international site
there are not many controls. just one button that lets you pick up/hang up calls and play/pause/skip music. thats more than enough for me.
the sound is so great but the best thing is the design of the speakers itself.
there is something called "Stay here" attached to them, which makes it almost impossible for them to drop out of your ear.
this works so well that i am even considering to use them for sports too...
unfortunately they cost about 130€ which is a lot. but for me the quality makes it worth it!
So far i'm enjoying the phonak pfe122 on my S2. Sound level seems to have improved possibly due to better isolation and clarity is second to none
I haven't had the opportunity to try out as many earbuds as this guy but his opinion in iem/earbuds is very similar to mine
http://www.anythingbutipod.com/forum/showpost.php?p=128853&postcount=1
I've bought A-Jays Four and for the price range they just sound amazing. As for inline remote, only middle button works, but thats enough in my case.

I recommend atomic floyd, a great product and exemplary customer service.

The MIE2I's are excellent imho, but like most others the volume buttons don't work with the SGS2.
Headset button controller app is workable and for me worth the hassle to use these headphones.
Mic works well. No one has complained about the quality when I call them.

i meant a wired adapter not a bluetooth one, bluetooth is not reccomended for high end headphones especially because flac and uncompressed formats are of a way to high bitrate to stream correctly
if i meant bluetooth i would've said so , i haven't tested any with my sgs as i dont have access to any atm but what i would do is find the cheapest possible headphones with remotes that work maybe even old htc ones or something laying around, then cut off the headphones above the mic/remote section and attach a 3.5mm jack so i can use my Q-jays
least that is my plan.
the loss of quality from the extension will be negligible and either way the sound out of any phone cannot compete with high end audio device anyway, so if you really care about audio quality start carrying a Cowon player.

just for you in case you didnt know: there are two different models:
- the "mie2" only have the mike and ONE button for pause/play/skip/accept or end call (those are the ones i have)
- the "mie2i" are the ones for the iphone and have more buttons (like volume and stuff)
just like MarkyH said the mike-quality is really good (maybe because it is quite next to your mouth), but the volume controls wont work with the sgs2 and most other phones because of a different framework.
i decided to buy the mie2 because i dont mind the missing volume controls or the "one track back" button...
Thank you Nimroth and Also thanks to MarkyH..
Good to know that the headset mie2i works well i.e compatible with SGS2 except for the volume controller.

AKG Q460 + android

Hi, anyone know if in the headphones AKG Q460 the play/pause and next/previous track buttons work in android (SGS2)?

If you download an app like 'Headset Controller App' you can use any 3 button remote and mic on Android. The app recognises and configures any buttons to whatever functions you want, real handy, use it all the time on my HTC desire S with 'Made for iPhone' earphones, no problems
one more question.
I've some problem with mobile-headphones. The standart headphone they without mic and has just 2 lines on TRS 3.5 but mobile headphone has 3 lines on TRS 3.5.
The problem is when I connect my samsung\black-berry headphones to my MP3 Iaudio I7 so I hear very very weak until I click some buttom on the cable of headphone.
will I get same problem with this headphone on my I7 or PC?

Are you really sure about this ? I have read mixed reports on Headset Controller Button. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. Seems to depend on the headsets, and also on the android smartphone.
I'm desperately trying to find if a AKG headset (Q460 or K451) can be made to work (all 3 buttons) with my Xperia Arc S. This info seems just IMPOSSIBLE to find right now !!!
Sorry for the late answer, But I am registered since only a few minutes.
Try it with the included Nokia-Adapter. This works fine on my xperia x10 mini.

is there a way to solve it?
I'm using AKG Q460
thanks
I have the Q460 and Galaxy S3.
The Play/Pause/Next Track function works. The Mic and Vol control does not.
The Q460 was made for the Iphone/Ipod with a 4 pole jack.
The limitation is a physical (wired) connection that is not present on the Android phones.
Bear in mind the headset was also tuned for the Iphone4/5 - sound will be weaker and distorted on my Galaxy-for example - but sounds OK with PC/Kindle Fire output.
I ordered a headphone amp for my S3 to fix that problem.
If you want phone functions on android get an AKG model that supports the android phones of which there are several.

In the last 6-7 months I reviewed a few dozen of headphones with fixed or removable iDevice cables and EVERY single one worked on my Note 2 w/android 4.1.2. I mean, volume up/down will not work because iDevices use different resistor values in the remote, but multifunction button worked perfectly for play/pause/call, double click to skip, and long press for Google Now. I was under impression Galaxy S3 was supporting 4pole jack as well with extra control signal. So Vol not working is expected, but I wonder if something is wrong with your mic?
Btw, how do you like Q460? I just did search, seems to be bass oriented, not much of mids/treble details (I only trust Tyll's reviews: http://www.innerfidelity.com/content/akg-quincy-jones-k460)

I just took a second look at my s3 factory earbuds, thanks to you, and they sure do have 4 poles. Two of the four are supposedly reversed on iPhone, as has been stated elsewhere. So the issue is still wiring in my opinion, Different resistor values- not sure but sounds like it would be an issue, no pun intended. I did not test my mic so I cannot say that it does not work, so I stand corrected. Which leaves me with the same observations that you had with the i devices cords. I stay with my original contention- that no "App " will fix this.
As far as reviews I listened carefully to two tracks looking for bias/distortion : " Animus Vox" by the Glitch Mob which carries the full spectrum and "Them Shoes" studio version, by Patrick Sweany, which focuses on voice, mid, and highs. I detected no bias toward lows, and the mids, highs were crisp. These phones, remember, were marketed for accuracy, not as "beats killers", and I am not disappointed.
There are a number of heavy hitter reviewers that agree with me so I would have to say they are real scientists
I ordered an aftermarket cable to replace the short cable that comes with the phones, the one without the Vol control.
And my headphone amp will be here tomorrow night (FiiO E12 Mont Blanc Portable Headphone Amplifier ).
One caveat : I expect these phones to sound even better with a CD since the lousy compression of Pandora or Amazon MP3's should not be used to review headphones.
Then, there gotta be a difference between S3 and N2/N3/S4. I would not be surprised that starting with N2 Samsung "aligned" poles to work with apple in-line remote. I can tell you with 100% certainty that every single headphone I tested (check out my signature link to all my reviews on XDA, also a sticky in this accessories forum section) with iDevice in-line remote worked perfectly with my Note 2 and also with S4 when I had that one for review from Verizon. Volume didn't work, but multi-function play/pause/call button did.
Regarding resistor values, take a look at this link. They go over in high details about it: http://www.instructables.com/id/Galaxy-Nexus-and-others-headset-remote-with-medi/

No app will allow iDevice up/down volume control to work on android, at least none I'm aware off. Do you mind posting a link to app you have in mind?

You can get the same app with better controls for free, JAYS: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=se.jays.headsetcontrol
And, NONE of these apps, neither yours nor mine will allow iDevice volume control on in-line remote with Android phone > 4.x. There is a workaround from the app to get volume control working on Android 2.x devices, but it doesn't work on 4.x.

Wired Headphones with remote control

Hello,
I've bought the SGS2 a few days ago. The headphones have a quite nice sound.
Although play/pause and next track aren't OK for me. I'd need a possibility to
control the volume.
Could you pls recommend an alternative (and a wide spread one , so I could find
that also in my country) wired headset, which would support also volume control
on the SGS2.
I have been searching on this forum, but I didn't find a clear answer, rather just
workarounds or talks about workarounds...
Thank you!
Not sure myself on what you could do, but you could try using JKay's app (must be purchased through play store and have framework) to enable "Volume Buttons Toggle Sound" maybe that might fix your problem? I have wired earphones myself with the mic and volume bit and I can change volume by pressing and change track by holding in.
Hopefully maybe someone else will post something helpful but this is what I would do. Good luck!

Hello D3_ and thanks for your reply...
Your link points to a different topic - it is about people who want to keep the microphone of S2 and want to attach another headphones
(which don't have a microphone). I just accidentally found a semi-solution for me - I just looked at the S3 headphones of a friend and I
was very surprised to find out, that there are 3 buttons - one long button for volume + / - and another button for accepting phone calls.
I have immediately tested it and everything works under AstroPlayer, which is the player I'm currently using.
But unfortunately not everything is that simple as it sounds. It seems that Samsung makes these headphones only in white, as my
friend's one are white, despite of the fact that his phone is pebble blue. And my SGS2 is noble black, so you can imagine that I
wouldn't want white headphones :-/
I'll try to check Nokia headphones these days...
I have the white ones, as they came with my Galaxy Tab 7 +.
Apart from being white (and I'm not snobbish enough to really care), they're perfect.
Great sound quality, volume controls & on/off/skip track functionality...
Get a HTC RC E160 wired headset, all buttons work (though the left and right buttons changed function when I upgraded from GB 2.3.5 to ICS 4.0.3; they were skip in GB, but they became volume with ICS). I cut the earpieces off one set and soldered a 3.5mm stereo inline jack socket in their place so I could use nicer headphones with Mic and headset controls.

I personally LOVE Jay's headsets. I've got a pair of the A-JAYS earbuds with remote and in line mic, awesome sound quality, but my model has a one button remote. No big deal, their companion Android application provides additional functionality that let's you click&hold and do other patterns for different functions like volume and seeking. I do know they make a 3-button version too, but typically it costs $20 more. Available online in North America and most of Europe.

Look at Urbanista´s London headphones.
They got some unique design and pretty good sound too.

It looks like a black version is available: http://www.ebay.it/itm/160843796626#ht_1366wt_1165. These are Samsung part number GH-59-11721A / EHS64AVFBE. The white ones are GH-59-11720A / EHS64AVFBE.

Update as I found some more[/QUOTE]
I got V-Moda M80 from amazon few weeks ago and couldn't be happier with my purchase. They are very well built and sound quality is even more impressive. But the feature that helped me make my decision was the build in mic for receiving/making calls.
If you have the money go for them you wont be disappointed

Yes ,but you need the htc solo version
(they only make one color white). Htc version works on samsung Nokia lumia
Sony as volume.
Nokia purity hd also works on Samsung too
(make sure your box does not say made for iPhone or iPod)

darkstar wrote just few posts above yours he has a pair.
I have a-JAYS One+ and I can not say anyhting bad about them. Great sound clarity and good basses, can be tweaked as to press/doublepress timing etc with their free apk which provides multiple options for controlling them better. Simply great piece of earphones. Mic is working great too. and above all, tangle free cable and great chinch is giving great user experience for me too.
Either these or more expensive versions will do, though Klispch S2 are great (tried them out, but settled with a-JAYS) etc... I tossed original earphones in the trash, seeing total failure Samsung is exercising when they include such POS with so high end phone. Same goes for S3, even though you see people posting how great those are. It is not so for me, and I tried them just to be sure I'm right. 3 of my friends has these with their SGS3 and I tried them - shallow sound with no good fidelity for me (phone calls are ok, but calling party is sounding like cheap radio for me). Well, guess what? They tried my a-JAYS One+, Creative Aurvana buds too, my Sony MDR-Z700 (original) headphones and even my old SE in_ear HPM70 short corded buds - all far better then POS Samsung is including with their top gamma phones.
