As many of you are aware, the old MHL adapters aren't compatible with the Galaxy S III due to a change in the amount of pins, so Samsung introduced an Adapter to still make use of your current adapter.

Didn't actually check the link!
$10 is quite a rip off for like 5c worth of materials to fix a problem that Samsung made themselves.
+1 for waiting for third party ones.
Is the micro USB port on the S3 standard for everything else I dare shove in it?
So has Samsung given a technical reason why old MHL adapters won't/can't work and yet all data and OTG accessories still work?

I'm waiting for a gaming dock to come out. HDMI, charging port and a few USB ports, 2 or more.
That would be awesome.

Phone's fine, FW isn't. There's no Mass storage mode, can't move Apps to external memory and for whatever reason they not giving MHL cables don't work on it, and not having that basic functionality is basically ruining my days because I can't use it the way I did with my S2.

Well, then I can only tell you that you only have the MHL thingy to complain about.
Mass storage and moving apps is gone with the way of the dodo. It's the same on the Galaxy Nexus and all Honeycomb and ICS tablets. The reason it used to work on the S2 is because it was a legacy device. I could go into a more detailed explanation if u want, but in short, it's Google's way of moving with the times, albeit with some changes that some people used to mass storage will not like.

I've already read the technical reason they gave about changing the file structure and moving away from more restrictive Fat32 format but Mass Storage isn't something that's "gone with the way of the Dodo" because iPhone has a big market for connecting to accessories over USB and without Mass Storage Android can't do that and can only use on computers with Kies installed, and not transferring to external memory is massively restrictive and Android is gonna end up like iPhone where if I install a few big games like Nova 3 i'll run out of space and be forced to buy a 32 or 64gb SGS3, and that's the kind of times I don't want to move with.
So there's no moving apps to sd card? Not even with app2sd or anything? What about with root?

Apparently there's possibly some way by typing commands into the Android shell to trick the phone into installing onto external memory but I haven't managed it yet and just hoping for an App to do the job.

And one other problem is because of the new file structure some Apps can't find the external SD so if you use like an emulator on some you might have to put the Roms onto internal memory, and there will be more Apps with same problem so that internal memory's gonna be eaten up very quickly, so like I said before I'm really not happy with Google and Samsung lately.

Apparently, VZ was selling the el cheapo version:

no true 3 pin docking functionality built in! It was essentially a $40 piece of plastic.
Here's a video of the dock in action. This has to be the most functional dock in existence. The only thing you'd want more is probably an ext antenna connection but mobiles don't have those! LOL

Actually, pop the battery cover off. I see 4 distinct antenna looking connectors (3 smaller ones, one medium one). No idea which ones which or what they're for though.
I'd be interested in getting one of those docks as well, but am curious whether or not an extended battery could be used.
I think a ton of ppl bought the OEM extended battery:
http://www.androidcentral.com/verizon-galaxy-nexus-extended-battery-curvy-all-right-places
It doesn't "look" like it's much thicker. Hopefully Sammy was smart enough to make this dock fit standard and extended batteries.

One of the guys at a work meeting yesterday got the GN and was disappointed at the car dock. I was surprised that it didn't have the 3 pin function cuz I swore, the one I saw on the net had it.
I'll have to send him that article too, I guess VZ jipped a lot of ppl who were thinkin they got the REAL 3 pin dock.
Anyway, I can't find any place that sells this thing in America??
Amazon UK has Galaxy Nexus docks listed, but they're not available till Jan 1st. :/

Wow, don't I feel like a jackass. I actually got the verizon dock not even thinking of the possibility it might be a useless piece of poo, aka a glorified window phone holder. What a crock. Why would they ever do something like that? Worst launch ever. Also, anyone else noticing the screen isn't as scratch resistant as let's say, a droid x? I wanted this device to be so awesome, and it is, but I feel like they could have gone the extra mile and gave us the device that lived up to the hype more than this does. I mean there isn't a car home app that comes stock. Thanks for the recommendation on car home ultra. Going to give that a try until we can get our hands on the REAL car dock.

I doubt that.
If the car charger mounts directly to the mount as described, it's the higher-end mount and not the plastic doohickey currently on offer at Verizon stores.
Remember the GSM version is thinner than the verizon version, so the dock may not fit LTE phones

sure but thats them describing the dock, which could be wrong
i think the most important piecee of detail from their listing is the

they probably didn't insert that in by mistake

I know for sure that it works in the Motorola Xoom - As long as you are running HC 3.2 or later.
Let us know if you are currently using it!
I am running a modded ICS ROM using the SanDisk Mobile Ultra microSDXC I 64gb. It's made for smartphones and superphones. SDXC is backwards compatible. Transfer speeds up to 30 MB/sec. Make sure you format it in your smart-phone first, then place it in you Xoom SDcard slot (with the Xoom off), reboot you will see it under storage. A good investment if you store a lot of Backups, pics, vids, etc...
Make sure it is the one in the pic below, I say this because I'm using it and know that it works.
Works on Rooted and Non Rooted Motorola Xoom Tablets.

Does it matter on what or how old the smartphone is or what ROM/software you are using on it? When you format it?

You are welcome.:highfive:
Works Just fine...formatting was a pain.
I purchased a 64GB Sandisk SDXC from Amazon on special sale at $49.99
When it arrived plugged into the Xoom and it didn't want to know.
I tried formatting using Windows Vista to Fat32 and exFat no joy. Tried using numerous partition utilities. I either got 27Gb or 1MB??
I searched the Web and it seemed from others experience to be a hit and miss affair. It stood to reason that a phone should be able to do it as some people had already confirmed.
I tried a Motorola Droid - No joy
I then used my HTC One X - perfect. I put the card in, did an unmount/erase/mount and it registered 58GB free.
I have the original Motorola Xoom WiFi 32GB running 4.1.2
The HTC is running on Android 4.0.3
Neither are rooted devices they are stock.
Happy bunny..just remains to be seen if it runs stable. No reason why it shouldnt. I can now increase my onboard music library and have room for apps and video.
Oh worth a mention....
Once installed you only have read access from the Xoom as stock. I downloaded and app SDCARDHD from the Play Store $1.49 that allows all the functionality of copying, pasting etc. Worth the money and something Google should address as this is pretty basic stuff.
Awesome!

I have a few questions about this app you mention: is that the exact name of the app? I can't seem to locate it in the app store. Also, are you talking about global copying, pasting, etc., and not simply within a file manager app? I have a Xoom, and the issue I'm running into is that most things that need the sd card seem to treat it as read-only.
Let me know when you can, thanks!
Have to agree on the hit and miss issue. I got my 64 gig card and when I put it into the Xoom it came up as damaged. I tried to format it in the Xoom and my device just rebooted itself.
My wife has a S3 and I was able to successfully format and mount it there. Thought I was going to be ok. Put it back in the Xoom and still telling me it is damaged. Not sure why this is still an issue.
I am running build 188 of the Team EOS Stingray 4 ROM.

Most likely your external card is damaged ...kinda.
Sounds like the boot sector is corrupted. Place sdcard in pc, Run a chkdsk from your pc, repair
Using chkdsk/r command.
To fix this Plug-in your Card in PC > check which drive is SD card > Go in CMD from start menu.
There type the commad
Code:
Chkdsk e: /r
* replace your drive in this command, my drive is āeā.
That should do it. If you need more info, use google

seems like it's doing what it's suppose to, no glitches of images or anything like that. i've tried some games, HD youtube and music all worked. no need for "warm up" like some of the other MHL adapters seem to require. no lags while playing videos
cons:
- responsiveness - i'm not sure if i'm just picky or if it's just unrealistic to expect these MHL adapters to be perfect. i do notice that when i scroll around, there's a bit of a drag. not that it's not responsive, but the transition effects just arent as good on the TV as it is on the phone. i noticed it too during dead trigger, it's responsive..but just not super smooth like it is on the phone. if you guys turn on the power saving mode on your phone, that drag that you notice? that's almost what it's like.
- charging - does not charge the phone while playing videos
- signal - completely loses signal when in use
feel free to ask any questions.
Seems like a great deal! I'm hoping someone tries to see if they work properly

I bought one and it's completely garbage. Screen flickers like crazy while playing movie and forget about games like nova 3.
I'm pretty upset and it's going to cost too much to send it back to Hong Kong for a refund.

you're right, it looks the same as the one in the 2nd link. but do you see anywhere that says "Genuine/original/authentic/OEM samsung galaxy s3 MHL adapter" ?
anyways, that's beside the fact because my point was to let ppl know about this $14 option.

found these on ebay which just started popping up. anyone happen to have tried them out?
seems alright since it connects the phone directly to the tv instead of having to get another HDMI cable if you use one of these
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/271053063258...X:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649#ht_3018wt_1327
of course some of you A/V junkie may like to use your own high end HDMI cables, but i'm just wondering does it really make a difference?

Thanks, bought one, will see what happens, but for less than $15, not too worried.
I just ordered one myself.

Should have it around October 11th.

I searched through like 50 pages on eBay and decided on this one (it's a shop that supplies cords and stuff like that)
http://www.ebay.com/itm/251151442464?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
They are littered across eBay but like I said, he had good feedback and it's a cord supplier.

haha damn i usually give up after 6 pages.
anyways, why this seller? there are a lot of other sellers from china who are selling the same cable but with a lot more positive feedbacks compare to this one you posted.
and i dont think the other user meant to say the one in the 2nd link is fake. we all know it's an after market adapter, just that we haven't seen very positive reviews. with that said, someone did buy a MHL adapter that LOOKS like the one in the 2nd link, and the seller he bought from claimed that it's suppose to be a genuine samsung MHL adapter.
going back to the red one, i haven't seen any reviews so far so sorry can't help you there. i'm just waiting for a US seller to carry them so i don't have to wait 2-3 weeks for shipping from china.
It is going back

yea i saw your post before. instead of posting the link to a MHL adapter that looks like the one you bought...i think it'd be more helpful to other users if you post the actual link of where you got your MHL adapter from
interestingly tho today we finally have 1 positive review for a similar looking mhl adapter
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31994952&postcount=36
hey everyone, im trying to collect all the links to the MHL adapter reviews because there are so many threads around. i am NOT looking for the ones that talks about using the 11 to 5pin converter, just strict microUSB for gs3 to HDMI female port.
i gone thorugh 8 pages of threads and so far found 3. the rest that talked about having proeblsm are the ppl that are using the converters.
if you find something just post it in this thread and i'll copy it to the first post.

So I stumbled upon this cheap 64gb microsd. The price seems too good to be true, any experience with this?
EDIT seems as though these may be fake low capacity cards formatted to shows as 64gb from what I see on google! beware
Never buy sd cards/usb flash drives off eBay as most are fakes they say 64gb and even when u plug them in to your computer they say the said amount but most are just 4gb cards made to look like bigger amounts.
Have a look on YouTube and Google it to see for yourself
Always go with trusted sources like amazon and memory bits etc....

I've bought at least 10 cards from eBay and so far all have been legit, there are plenty of great sellers on eBay.
I would say though that picking a seller with a near perfect feedback helps and almost 100% of the time their prices will beat other online stores.
Regards
I've bought some cheap sd cards and my opinion is dont buy them. They dont work or they're slow.

I managed to find a 64gb micro SD card on Amazon that looks almost identical to your Ebay link. Extremely terrible reviews -
Better off going for something like a genuine Sandisk micro SD. If you want to use it for photos and video capture then definitely go for a Class 10 version. This is only $41 at the moment - most others I found on Amazon are ~$50.
Can anyone else give any recommendations? Anyone found one cheaper than $41? I might end up getting that one from Amazon if no one else has any suggestions as there's only 14 left.

Do NOT buy Sandisk Micro SD cards, they are legit, fast and good indeed. But unfortunately they suffer of unredability on android. Eventually the disk just becomes completly unreadable and is impossible to format too. I had the 32gb from Sandisk and that happened. Currently have the 32Gb from Samsung which is pretty awsome, thou not as quick as sandisk,
No issues from my 32gb SanDisk which is easily a year old now. Been in my XT, xz and now in my xz1
Last year I purchased one of Sandisk from Fommy it was quite expensive one...but it has worked very well and has not created any trouble or malware to my phone so it was quite a bit worth of its cost and it does not make me feel of lack of memory...and one more thing there is not any problem even in data transfer too....

I have bought nothing but sandisk for the last couple of years, I even dropped one in the snow found it in the spring and it worked lol. Amazon has some pretty good sales at time I bought three 64GB micro sd cards for 35 dollars last year.
I always use Sandisk, worry the data lost!

The extreme is faster no doubt, but if you are using it for music and pictures you won't notice much difference. If you transfer lots between your PC and phone it might be worth it. I have both and I don't see a major difference unless I'm transferring. Might be worth the upgrade if your doing lots of HD video though. Mind you the extreme is almost double the price.
Just be Sure its Class 10

Don't even try to buy that card, is 100% fake, sold as 64GB but is 2 or 4Gb effectively. You can post me any link or picture and I will recognize fake from real. If you buy that card on your own risk test it at first with "h2testw". You will find thousand of GB data lost.

Maybe you brought the card and realized they don't have full capacity? Who believe you if nobody confirm that what you saying. I did my part not for you but for others people.
After purchasing a faulty/fake Samsung pro 64gb SD card, it sort of made me feel paranoid about SD cards. But now I'm running out of internal memory for my Note3 and would love to have more room.
Do you guys have any experience with the sandisk extreme or extreme plus 64gb sd cards or Samsung pro 64gb sd cards?
I would like to buy a card that I can use without it crapping out on me 6 months down the road (heard it was common for the sandisk ultra 64gb cards to do that so I'm trying to stay away from those).
SanDisk is a great company, never had a problem with any of my sdcard cropping out on me. You just need to buy from a trusty reseller like Amazon and not ebay which is full of fake sdcard and scams. 64gb SanDisk will run ya about 40$ and the 128gb will run ya 119$

Any card can fail, for many different reasons, so regardless of card maker I would do backup on regular basis, just in case. Most companies will replace broken card under warranty and if you have backup of all the data it's just minor inconvenience.
I had this problem also, and bought a card from overseas. Was tagged with company name and everything. but crashed my phone. I bought the card for like $20 cheaper than anybody else had it for, thinking i was gonna get a great deal. Back to American logic. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Remember you get what you pay for. If somebody has it for significantly less then everybody else, it's probably a fake. My own personal experience.

Stay away from sandisk sdcard with red/grey color if you want to use on samsung devices. I had two 32gb sandisk microsd card failed on my previous galaxy s3, both were sold by Amazon directly. Both cards failed when I was downloading several files simultaneously for half an hour. Maybe they are good for light use, not for intensive writing.

I don't also trust cheap prices, better buy the exact price than buying a cheap one that could cost you more.
Well this sucks, I pre-ordered on the 28th of April and the shipping says it should be between May 6th - May 10th, which was fine. But everyday I would lurk on that ad and I noticed it says Usually ships within 1 to 2 months.
Logged onto amazon and my shipping updated to May 30th - June 6th. Ended up cancelling the order and ordered directly from the Samsung website for a few dollars more. Hopefully I will receive it in a timely matter.

You know that is a waste to buy for a phone right? The phones can't read/write that fast, they don't support but 20mb/sec transfer speeds. If I were you i would just get the regular 64MB that transfers at 30mb/sec. Unless you want to put the card into a reader and transfer directly to the card and put it back in the card there isn't a need to spend the money on a card that fast.
