[Q] (Noob) What is a "Baseband"? - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just as the title states.
What is a Baseband?
What do I need it for?

From what I know what commands the GSM service. Correct if wrong

Baseband Chip is Main for Network (Gsm Carrier) & It configures all the Network Signals of ur phone.According to our Baseband Version .

Compatibility ..
in the other thread .., we were talking on Custom ROM's ..
as they said It's GSM thingy .., And If yo install an incompatible Baseband with the ROM , Like if the ROM works with baseband 62 and you installed baseband 70 , you will get loop boot and the ROM " System " won't start ..
hope It helped ..

Expanding the question, if I may . Ok, now got the idea, but have another question: which (according to your opinion) is the best baseband? I'm in stock 4.0.4, rooted and have the .72, stick with it or try another? Also, is a basebabd a battery dryer?

I think .72 is pretty good.
Some ROMs are optimised for certain basebands.
An unoptimised baseband could drain your battery faster.

[Q] Changing Arc model number

Hi all. Sorry if this has been asked before, but what seemed to me like reasonable search terms couldn't find anything for the Arc ...
When I flashed the generic global .42 firmware the reported model number changed from LT15a to LT15i. I'm not sure if this actually matters - as far as I can see the phone is using the same frequencies it always did, which is what I understood would happen - but is it possible to change the model number back?
Thanks.
flash it with lt15a firmware
You can edit your build.prop in your system folder ,
Just change all Lt15i to lt15a or vice versa
Shouldnt make any diff what the model number ya have tho ,

Thanks, pushtostop. A quick restart and it's just as I want it.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1496076
so i think that it should work
there is the kernel for cdma too
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1400127
so u can try but first make a backup
but the phone is a gsm phone wouldnt that cause major issues?
like I said I have gsm stock and i dont know if it works. U can try and if sth goes wrong than (4g wont work) use recovery backup to return to stock rom
in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1294129&highlight=2+3+4+r800a are infos about roms for xplay an there is info:

It should be compatible because it's good for all GSM models, but I'm not sure about the whole 4g jazz.

(post #34), so possible is that without loosing 4g u cant change rom
Do not use a cdma rom you have a gsm phone. You can use any stock based GSM rom like darkforest rom with no game issues. Cm7 is great but the touchpads don't work on most games. I'm using darkforest rom also jokawild is another great rom no problems on xperia play at&t

I have used ICS++ with DoomKernelv2 which was really nice. I moved to gin2ics since the Xperia Play is lacking RAM.

Really? Nothing happens if I install something build from R800i or any other model?
And the GSM at the begin of the posts, dont gonna leave me without CDMA?
Thanks!
I don't think it matters. I used to have a stock r800at but I installed TrueAncestor v. 1.4b and it changed it to an r800i. I haven't seen any problems in the month I've used it!
Falsh the enhanced version of stock rom .58 and after flashing your r800a will become r800i. Then flash doom kernel through fastboot. Then search for any gingerbread rom and flash through CWM. Thats all.

Yep, they work perfectly in Latin America, just make sure to do a nandroid (full backup) and you should be fine, then you can test every ROM out there with a backup to rely on and roll back if necessary.
