Has anyone noticed that on 1x, the 3G icon is still displayed?
And if so, does anyone know of a fix? I would rather have no icon, than 1 that lies to me.

Not very related but just so you know.

I'm not referring to the signal bars. I'm referring to the Network Connection icon (1x, 3G, 4G, Roam)

I'm 100% certain it's because that's how the stock ROM is configured.
I'm running CM9 right now and when it drops to 1x, it shows 1x, not 3G. It always says 3G when I run stock.
If you're rooted you could probably use something like Ninja Morph to change the icons... or you could just use a custom ROM that does this already.

I've been running AOKP since it became official for toroplus, but I wanted to go back to stock just for the speed/stability (I use the stock Sprint kernel on AOKP for stability). I've already looked through all the icons, and they are all correct. So somewhere in an XML or smali it points to the 3G icon instead of the 1x icon.
I just can't find it.

Honestly it is probably like that to make it look like you have better signal.

Stock Android and AOSP never had one. HSPA+ is just a different version of HSPA so the H icon is still valid. Why do you even care?

When you're on H it is connected to the faster speed...
you could always open up a ROM and take out the images, make a new one that's H+, and put it back in place of the H icons...

Hopefully the 3g/4g handoff and the signal quality...had more dropped calls with this phone than any other I have ever had on vzw.
Do we just flash the entire zip in CWR? Does this address the service issues?

This is my first pure google phone so this may be more of a motorola question but does flashing leaked radios throw us off the upgrade path? Is there even such a thing as a uograde path on a nexus?
Getting slower speed tests after the upgrade. I'll keep testing... someone else try too please

Downloads are faster uploads slower which is fine I don't need 20 mbps upstream.

Woohoo! Hopefully better radios! Can't stand the current ones.
Much better so far here, consistently seeing 3 bars now instead of 2, dbm seems to have dropped average about 10 and connectivity seems quicker ... thank you
This is my first Google phone seems flashing radios is different because this phone is so open on my Thunderbolt i flash radios in bootloader . Oh how i love my Nexus .
All I know is it is definitely not worse than the previous radio
Update from my phone: I get a solid 1 more bar of signal for 4G.
My steps:
1. Flash radios
2. Do the *22899
3. Wait 60 seconds or more til it finishes

Hi. I got my nexus yesterday. I really love it. I am on T-Mobile but the signal jump between 3g and h like crazy. I am aokp and radio xxkk6. Any suggestion
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
I thought 3g and H connection jumps are normal if you move a lot or stay at somewhere with instable 3g signal.
Mine does that all the time.
Oh and u can delete that "COMING SOON" in your signature
The phone is made to go from 3g to h if the data signal is being used then back to 3g when it is not.

This is not a feature of the Galaxy Nexus, but rather the proper way 3G/HSPA+ is supposed to be handled by GSM phones.
Sometimes skins will just leave the "3G" or "4G" symbols up in the status bar, even when the phone is actually switching much more often. The Nexus just shows the actual switching when it happens.
i have a sprint samsung galaxy s3 with the latest monthly snapshop of 10.1. i have noticed after i rooted to 10.1 from stock my signal strength to carrier and wifi strength have decreased. my old ipod touch gets a better wifi signal then the s3 with this mod. places in my house were i used to get full bars i now get 1 bar. my class rooms at school where i used to get full bars i barely get any wifi signal or regular signal. any advice?
I have heard and seen that Samsung adds about 20dbm or whatever it is called, that CM shows your true signal.

Your signal is the same. The display is different. Aosp has a truer reading than TW thus looking like a lower reading.

Its a known fact that manufacturers do this...you can confirm if the actual signal has changed by doing a couple speed tests, but you'll find it hasn't

I get demonstrably worse signal in the exact same spot in my apartment. My signal ranges from -85ish dBm to -105dBm on touchwiz, whereas I am seeing an average of -115 dBm on Cyanogenmod 10.1. I frequently have absolutely no voice signal whatsoever on Cyanogenmod in my apartment.
Though I think the main problem is still Sprint's network. I should have great signal where I am according to their maps and the tower proximity.

Touchwiz adds 20 dBm that actually makes a difference? I can't make or receive phone calls on CM10.1 probably 66% of the time. I can't make or receive calls maybe 5-10% of the time on touchwiz.
It is not the display

It has something to do with the fact that Cyanogenmod uses open-source RIL's. Sprint recently pushed out a OTA for touchwiz which updated the RIL so that their phones could interact with their "new" 4G LTE towers, but the Cyanogenmod team doesn't have access to that RIL, so they are using an older one.
Now how to fix this issue I do not know, and would very much appreciate some help. I realize that TouchWiz does add 20dBm to the display but when I am getting full bars and LTE on TouchWiz, and getting one bar with LTE using Cyanogenmod then there is a serious issue.
There has to be some way to update a RIL manually, and if so where to get the latest Sprint RIL.

Meaning that all aosp roms are put together on leaks from other devices. There is no true aosp rom available yet for US variant s3. So this is what happens when files are picked from here, there, and everywhere and pieced together to make something work. The radio files especially for cdma devices becomes a nightmare. TW 4.1.2 is the best available for Sprint SGS3 at the moment, you won't have issues with data signal, cell signal or problems sending and receiving sms/MMS.
There is no true source for sph-L710 for aosp.

I recently switched to T-Mobile and am constantly checking the settings and running speed tests trying to figure out how well the HSPA+ coverage is in the areas I frequent and this icon/symbol would be sweet.

I've used my nexus 4 on both t-mobile and at&t. In both cases, the H+ icon appeared when i had HSPA+ coverage, no mod required. This was running CM and PA... does the stock rom not do this?

Stock only shows me "H" regardless of the network type. Save for edge.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
This isn't possible on stock. Just flash cm or pa to get that.
Actually, even with cm10.1, you really never know when you have h+ because the icon only changes when you use data. This is a feature of this phone to save battery. It only connects to h+ when you're using the phone. Its stupid, but without it, who knows how bad the battery will be.
Find the h+ images somewhere and overwrite the h images with ninjamorph. Just keep the same file name as the h images, that's the file name the system will call for.
