CM9 power drainer vs. ICS LEAK - LG Nitro HD

Has anybody else noticed that CM9 has horrible battery life compared to the flash able ics by hono? Kinda weird. Is there a reason for it?
Sent from my LG-P930 using XDA

It's the other way around for me...ics leak and hono ics had horrible battery life, had to recharge about every 4 or 5 hrs. Back to running CM9 and I'm at 68% from full charge after 9hrs. I like that CM9 let's you change between 4g/3g/2g. I keep edge on at work which saves a substantial amount of power then I switch to 3g/hsdpa+ when I'm ready to use data. I hated that I couldn't do that with the ics leaks

...or just use Juice Defender and stop complaining about your battery life?

I think the OP was totally in the right to express his opinions, just as you are yours.
Interesting to see this once vibrant forum has devolved into attacking anyone who has an idea or thought that differs from your own.
Keep it classy nitro owners!

What I did today is in "developer options" pur "force GPU rendering" on and in "Performance" checked "surface dithering" off. Didn't tested for long but hope it helps
Indeed, why we could possibly needed "dithering improves image quality om some displays @ the cost of performance" when we have best display on the market? and we force our CPU to make antialyasing and drain power for no reason

And yes, put the governor to conservative/userspace, think it helps 2 conserve power

Ajt, I literally just downgraded mine today and when its stuck at 4% is there any text populating the textfield below the % bar? Mine kept spouting the same cannot find .DLL over and over again for about 5 minutes and the % never moved once from 4% but after like 5 minutes my phone restarted in the Korean rom and I was able to root and reset the phone back using ADB

No, when it jumps out at 4% it boots ics, when it gets done booting ics the percentage jumps to 90%. After it slowly counts to 100% then it claims to be done, with the phone still running ics...

Is installing Swype beta for ICS leak possible?
Hi all,
I'm new to the forum and have just upgraded my LG nitro HD to the ICS leak successfully. :good:
I installed swype beta without problems, but when I want to use swype I can't seem to select swype as my chosen keyboard.
I've tried two things:
1. In "language and input" under settings, the android keyboard and the lg keyboard are ticked and greyed out and i can't untick them.
2. When long clicking in a text field, there is no option for me to choose between keyboards.
I would appreciate any help on getting swype to work properly on the ICS leak.
cheers

I had a lot of issues with Swype and the leak. The easy part was selecting Swype. Anytime your keyboard comes up in ICS, a notification pops up in your notification bar. Use that to switch keyboards.
My problem was finding a version of Swype that worked correctly in ICS at high resolution. Google "Swype_beta.ics_v3.26.92.38303_0.apk" for the version that worked best for me. Sometimes I still had to rotate it to landscape then back to portrait for it to display correctly.

Hit the "Edit" button in the notification bar, and then hit the little icon in the top right corner that looks like a check mark with three horizontal lines in the screen that comes up.. You can add and remove a whole slew of different toggles. It's stupidly designed and not documented at all, but it's definitely there.

Installing Swype beta for ICS leak is possible!!!

Hi JINXR, thanks a lot for your fast reply and for solving my problem.
I tried your first suggestion and looked at the notification pop up in the notification bar. I was then able to easily switch between keyboards.
Thanks a lot, love my swype
P.s. For everyone else having trouble installing the swype beta version
I've installed and working successfully version 1.0.3.5809 which, I think, is a fairly recent version (June 2012)
The process that I followed to get working swype was
go to the swype beta homepage with your phone browser (I was not allowed to post an external link as a new forum user, sorry)
create a swype account (with your email account that you use on your phone)
download the swype installer and install it on your phone (allow foreign applications in settings, if prompted)
open the swype installer and, when prompted, log in with your swype account details to download and install the latest version of swype
after successful install, enable swype by ticking the swype box under language & input settings
that should successfully install swype on your LG Nitro HD with the ICS leak
to switch to the swype keyboard when writing a message just do as JINXR suggests

Glide Now Rooted...Now How About Mods?

So I don't have the phone, but I am interested, hence I have been following the whole rooting process, etc.
Simply put, as the phone has now been rooted, has anybody tried any of the standard Captivate ROMs yet? In particular, anybody try the Captivate ROM for Cyanogenmod on the Captivate Glide?
I gather it won't work seeing as how the underlying hardware is different (Hummingbird on the Captivate VS. Tegra 2 on the Captivate Glide), but who knows...
I'd try but I don't have the phone...yet
I am 99.9% Sure it will not work without any modification. The hardware of the glide is very different from the original captivate.
it will require different kernel at MINIMUM.plus hardware keyboard driver, open/close switch .... other drivers different as well...

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the original Captivate never got an official gingerbread release from AT&T.
So my confidence in AT&T is pretty low.
Not really a full mod but someone who knows how to remove all the preloaded crap on it should release a clean rom.

Battery Icon mod.
I have figured out how to change the battery icon in the status bar to show the percentage. the phone is programed to only show in 5% increments, but it't better that guessing!
I have posted a MOD thread here.

Get this: NoLED
It's better than any notification light, and since our screens are OLED, only the icon area draws power. I've noticed no significant battery loss.

It's not a feature in ICS, if you don't want a custom ROM you're out of luck.
That said, I'm not sure I see the value of it. What do you use it for?

I also no longer see the value considering the specs of this phone.
I tried to Custom ROMs - AOKP and SLIM ICS. And both ROMs have customizable Navigation buttons. You can set Kill App function on any Nav button (short press or long press).
I use that feature very much.
If I won't be playing a game, I just kill it.
I believe this same battery a little and doesn't require much effort.
try using conservative governor, it gave me much more battery time on my nexus since it spends more time at lower clock than the standard ondemand and interactive governor

i also want that feature, as there are more and more games, that keep running in the background and come up with "sales-notification", "reminder to play" or whatever...to avoid this, i always need to go into apps-settings and kill them after playing, otherwise i get these annoying notifications... :-\
CM9 have that feature too. I do see the point of having it if you use some apps that will wakelock your phone (i.e. Facebook), and the only way to fix it is to kill the app (hold back is quicker then going into recent apps and swipe it away).
Either you use a custom rom, or you don't get it. End of story.

why do so many people think, that swiping apps out of the recent apps list does stop them from running? they are just taken out of the list, but if they are still running, they still do after swiping them away, no matter if shown in the list or not!
try it with one. check if it's running, take it out of recents list and check again...

why? - what developers of custom roms can do, also developers of a single kill-back-button-app/ script can do for rooted phones ... I don't want to use Cyanogen only for that feature/ reason.

That's a very useful and helpful answer.
Anything you can get in a custom ROM, you can have in a stock ROM. It just takes someone to implement it. If no one has implemented it yet, assuming there is enough interest, someone will...
I have kanged it before into stock, built from src.

You can only have this option on AOKP / GUMMY and non-official rom porting by aokp.
The best rom i use is gummy, AOKP got some problem with connection...
And gummy has good tweaks that doesn't have aokp, and aokp has very great stuff that gummy doesnt have...
But gummy is very stable on the connection.

Jelly Bean Gnex Port
The Andromadus Team is working on Jb from source, best posible way to expirience jellybean as it should be, follow there progress/releases here

Here it is guys jb for our beloved g2, this rom is based on the gnex jellybean leak that we saw couple days ago, right now rom is as useless as the word could posibly describe it, the rom boots just fine, but it seems the launcher does not like being render in software mode so it crashes non stop, i tried other launcher they dotn seem to work ether, im just posting this so maybe someone else can help me, to ether get launcher working in software mode or getting egl acceleration working, for this will we mostlikely need a 3.0 kernel.
Again bare in mind this is pretty much useless, and its not much fun to use, untill we solv the launcher issue, dont expect this to be a daily driver any time soon
Working:
Touchscreen forgot to mention this
It renders and reaches lockscreen thats about it, im sure i can fix more, but theres no point if we cant get the launcher working.

I said "ASIDE FROM THE FACT". you misinterpreted.
I would have thought JB would have taken another year for anything to be on Desire Z.
I'm just learning these past 3 years and by no means unfamiliar with personal ports from other devices but took a look at doing something similar for my device for personal use and was humbled very quickly. It's the accomplishing of seemingly impossible tasks large well funded corporations don't bother tackling by one user who solves it on their free time that make me truly love open technology. Kudos. Keep it Up. Many Thanks!

Touchkeys on CM10

Someone please please PLEASE tell me if there is a way to tell the captive touchkeys to stay on when the screen backlight is on. I may be in the minority but I can't stand the lights going out while I'm using the phone. Sounds simple but I REALLY hate them going off. There wasnt an issue with the unofficial CM10 alpha 5(?). At one time I had a rom that allowed me to set a timeout in seconds OR to match the backlight. That would be perfect in my mind. It would be great if the keyboard backlights were on any time the keyboard is open (IMO). If I'm in the minority then someone please tell me where I can set it at the OS level for just me. If I can't find a solution then I will have to go back to alpha 5 and stay there.
I have googled everything I can think of. I keep getting pages about a "great" new beature of CM9 that allows you to disable the backlight altogether. Great for some maybe but not me. I bring that up to say that I have tried to find the answer on my own first.
Is your capacitive lights feature unchecked in the advanced settings? I think the majority of people who have used samsung phones don't need the lights, so that's why this feature has been implemated.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda app-developers app
It is unchecked. I have no problem with the ability to disable but would love to have the option to have them stay on (JB Default) when the screen is on. I don't like having to guess where the buttons are when it's dark out. It's petty I know but it really does bother me enough to not use the rom If I can't change it.
Please post questions in Q&A
Thread moved
Thanks
FNM
FWIW - I'd like to see this as an option, too. It's an annoyance, but not a show stopper. I'm actually getting pretty good at guessing where the capacitive keys actually are, but sometimes get ticked at fumbling for them.

Bump (he said sheepishly)
Can any of the kernel or ROM devs provide some words of wisdom here? On Epic TW-based ROMs, there's definitely a setting to have the capacitive key backlighting timeout match either the screen timeout or the keyboard lighting timeout (I don't remember which).
Thanks.

This functionality would have to be added to the CM framework. The framework is what controls the 6 second timeout and a configurable timeout setting has not been coded. Anyone is free to work that out and submit it to the CM gerrit system

Understandable, because that's no easy task. But another alternative is to build your own kernel, and revert this patch which is how I fixed the capacitive lights in the 3.0 kernel. You could effectively break them again. Don't worry, they will still go off when you turn off the screen, they just won't timeout after 6 seconds.
I finally got brave

A year has passed. Updates have come and gone. I even switched to another phone and back to the Epic4G. Same thing bugged me as always. I took the leap and set up a virtual machine so I could compile CM 10.1. I did a test compile and came out fine. I then made the changes you mentioned (that made more sense once I got used to the built process) and it WORKED!
I now have CM 10.1 fully working with the button backlight staying on as long as the screen backlight. I LOVE IT.
Thank you so much (a year late).

I've had my Epic for a week, running CM 10.1, and this bugs the snot out of me too. Any chance you could PM me a link to your build?
Sure
I'll try to figure out where to upload it. Keep in mind I know nothing about coding for Android. It's simply CM 10.1 (newest) for EpicMTD with 2 numbers changed and then compiled. I do like that the ability to control the brightness of the buttons still works. I don't like them super bright but I do want them always on.
Download
Here is a download of the rom I compiled. Use at your own risk.

Understood, and thank you good sir. :highfive:
UPDATE: Loaded, booted, and is running without a hitch. You have solved my one major gripe with CM on my Epic. Thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou!
Glad I could help someone else. CM10.1 is so near perfect in every way, it was frustrating to have such an annoying "flaw". In the older version of CM they didn't have the ability to adjust the brightness of the buttons so I can understand some people wanting them off or fast timeout. If I ever have some spare time I will try to add this as a feature to the menu but I doubt it will ever happen.
@bbelos
Any way I can get my hands on your most recent 4.4 build source so I can build it with the bug put back in?

Thank you very much. I am running your build now but would love to make my 1 edit. Is it possible, without total rebuild or large headache, to make a patch for the one file?

One other thing that might make things easier, go to Settings->Buttons->Backlight, and set the timeout for "Don't turn off" and see if that behaves to your satisfaction.

I installed your cm11 but havent gone through and tweaked it out. Looks like that might do the trick. I have found a couple bugs (to be expected).
1. If on a call and hit home, there is no way to get back to hang up. Have to power off.
2. While on home screen. Hitting the "menu" button at the bottom and choosing "settings" brings up the launcher3 settings. Used to be the android settings...maybe it's a change. Not a deal breaker but I prefer the old way.
Thank you for all your work. I wish there was some way I could help you out.

[Discussion] FI25 Leak

Thanks to rockypr for his idea to do this on FH23. List all the fixes, bugs, additions or whatever you want to discuss about the FI25 Leak.
I will start.
Additions/Changes:
1. Removed ability to choose between MTP or Mass Storage.
2. Removed the Back up and reset option under settings.
3. Much more stable! "rwilco12"
4. Feels super smooth !"rwilco12"
5. Picture messages now send on 3G. "rwilco12"
6. Connections seem to be much faster. "rwilco12"
7. Battery percentage icon is off by default again. "rwilco12"
8. Several updated bloatware apps. "rwilco12"
9. Connection Optimizer is removed. "tdunham"
10. Bootanimations appear to be working again. "tdunham"
11. Removed contact tab from dialer again. "manufan721"
12. Out of Office editing works again! "rwilco12"
13. Battery monitor for devs is removed. "rwilco12"
14. Sprint Zone has a voice. "rwilco12"
15. It seems they added an extra font called Helvetica Neue. "Dvin211"
Bugs/Issues:
1. The Recent Apps thing, where it isn't transparent if you have 3 or less apps in it, still exists.
2. The led notification light does not pulse while charging. "someguyatx"
3. Bluetooth is not functioning properly. "grncherry" For me it was constantly dropping the connection.
4. My WiFi just stopped connecting out of the blue.
Some quotes from the community:
Hmmm.....i flashed and it seemed laggy to me, modem worked great. "manufan721"
This modem really helped with low signal. "revamper"
Data speeds greatly improved and get signal before where i never used to! "elliwigy"
Holy crap this ROM is fricken smooth! Scrolling on it is nice finally! "daniel4653"
Coming from FI03 I'm finding this build to be laggy at times with a couple freeze ups when opening apps- Market , Gmail & Working in settings which reminds me of the young ICS bad days. Data transfer is slower. "sling"
I went back to FH13 today. FI25:not good modem. very slow. Some hicups opening apps. They took away some functions. :banghead: I did not feel much improvement from FH13 or to be more accurate from FI03. "Omar04"
Battery life has greatly increased. "IamFlynn"
I'll second Omar on the FH25 modem. Its terrible for me. The ROM is alright, a little bit smoother and more crisp than FH13, but not enough for me to change my daily setup. "boXerrumble "

nuhuh I changed it right after I posted it.
Hmmm.....i flashed and it seemed laggy to me, modem worked great(still on it), huge downgrade from fi03 on dialer pad going back to three selection buttons up top compared to the 4 with previous fi03 build....why would sammy and sprint remove that?!

Fu#*! I didn't notice that yet. Haven't had a chance to use the rom yet. That blows. I don't know why they are mucking with it so much. I don't understand why they removed the mass storage option or the backup feature either. As far as it being laggy I am not noticing that part. Seems really smooth and fluid for me.

Some things that I've noticed:
Agat's FI03 repack instead of FI25 kernel seemed to give me even better signal. Asked Tray to test as well but didn't work for him.
The buttons between contacts and dialer - which were nice - are gone again
Wonder if they're cutting down because the ROM was as big as it was...?

wow this is the second best comment i ever came across here at XDA ;P
a few months back a good guy at fascinate forums responded like this when a fantastic ROM update came. He said
* Thanks OP, this thing got me laid last night , my GF just loved it *
Feedback
I don't mind installing stuff like this, especially if it fixes the issues im having, I can handle most of the tech hurdles, however I wish there was some kinda of feedback mechanism. Clearly 'they' aren't just writing the ROMs for fun....
Just some more stuff I've found.
- Out of Office editing works again!
- Battery monitor for devs is removed.
- Sprint Zone has a voice... Maybe I'm imagining this one but it wasn't in previous builds, right? Correct me if I'm wrong on this one.
this is irrelevant but is anyone having power button issues? mine is seriously messing up now.
Also, they better have not removed mass storage.
call recorder is not work at this leak

That is not the issue. The led notification light does not pulse while charging in Touchwiz ics builds. It worked in GB Touchwiz roms and it works in Aosp roms. You can use controls in aosp roms to make the light flash blue and red or the app blink or lightwave can make the light flash blue. Its very handy.
I'm running stock with Tunein Radio Pro & slacker radio installed.
Coming from FI03 I'm finding this build to be laggy at times with a couple freeze ups when opening apps- Market , Gmail & Working in settings which reminds me of the young ICS bad days.
Data transfer is slower.
Battery life not so good but that may change after settle in hmm heck I'm going back to FI03.

Ah I gotcha now ..sounds to me more like a feature that was removed in ICS not so much a bug to be fixed
In addition to the warning CJ posted, can we get a clear explanation about the stock kernel issue too please?
Here is an excerpt from Kobridge's forum by Leaderbuilder:
"Well flashed this and liking it so far but here are some things I've found. Stock kernel worked (works). But when I tried to Mobile Odin a source built kernel with recovery (Agat's 5.4 or RUjeluss' 1.8) the phone locke up on boot and required a battery pull.
To get it back to functioning I had to PC Odin the FI03 Agat's kernel (Couldn't use the FI25 one click from the repository it kept failing md5 check). Then I was able to boot back up.
Then tried to Mobile odin back to FI25 kernel via Mobile Odin and the same thing happened - stuck at boot screen. So back to PC Odin One-click and use FI03 Agats and booting again."
