Is there a way I can remove the gapps apk and replace it with the one in the market?
Sent from my HTC Wildfire S A510e using XDA
Use titanium backup, or es file explorer in es give root permission and mount file system.
Delete the apk, it will be in system/apps
Titanium is an easier option.
Or if your a boss
adb shell exec rm /system/app/(name of app without spaces I guess).apk

you can directly remove it via root explorer or manually like mentioned here:
download android emulator and type.
su
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblk3 /system
ls /system/app
rm /system/app/<app-name>
its done..
like for voicesearch type
rm /system/app/voicesearch.apk

I erased my camera app off my incredible and am trying to put it back . Have tried this
Adb shell
Su
/system/bin/cat /sdcard/HTCcamera.apk > /system/app/HTCcamera.apk
/system/bin/chmod 0655 /system/app/HTCcamera.apk
Also tried chmod 4777
It showed up in the system/app dir both ways with root explorer but not in the program launcher.
Also tired installing it with root explore and astro.
Any ideas other than formatting would be great.
Thanks for your help....

You need to put the odex file back as well (unless you did not remove that).
I put it back the same way as the camera app. Still no luck.

Do I need to remove the odex files as well?

Advisable to, yes. Also, reboot and clear cache in recovery for best results.
What is the command to list "dir" to get the app names? I've done this on my mytouch3g as well but rusty
Edit: It's "ls" lol.
Ok, so I just attempted this and get this error:
rm failed for Twitter.apk, Read-Only file system

And I also would like to remove these:
amazonmp3.apk
Email.apk
com.google.android.apps.finance-1.apk
Web2GoShortcut.apk
Twitter.apk
Web2GoShortcut.odex
Email.odex
What is a .odex file?

Make sure is not a typo.

Anyone know the name of the photobucket APK?
So now that we have Perma-ROOT, is it safe to delete these bloatwares without worrying about future OTA's?
And what's a .odex file? How do we delete this? Can we just delete these apps thru Titanium Backup and then boot into Recovery to clear cache?
*EDIT* - n/m i see how to delete the .odex files now
What's the .apk name for Photobucket?
*EDIT* - Got it... it's PbAndroid.apk
Need help!
Well those are the commands to remove a app how do you push a apk file back onto the /system/app. I want to push a Bluetooth.apk file from the old ROM to the new OTA and see if that helps with the Bluetooth issue I'm having with the new OTA.
If your perma rooted why not just install titanium backup and uninstall the app. If your temp rooted then you can only disable the app cuz if you delete the apps it'll only reappear after a reboot.
Becuz titanium does not let u remove apps, if it was that easy I think everyone would do it

Don't think it would.
BTW you can also try this remount command for either, I was advised that it's preferable to use and it's certainly easier:
mount -o remount, rw /system
I have made a .IMG file for my arc...and there is a problem ,I can't obtain root permission in it...How can I do ???

Did you add su and Superuser.apk to the system/xbin and system/app folders?
Also, set rmember to permissions correctly on those files.
su, you can extract from superuser.apk file using fx. 7zip.
Good luck

I dont think it matters. Some put it in bin, and add a symlink in xbin.
Put su in /system/bin and do
ln -s /system/bin/su /system/xbin/su
Remember correct permissions in /system/bin/su

Title. Nothing will update, nothing will install. I'm afraid to reboot. What can I do?
Device -- Xperia Play R800X
Adb push or root explorer the folder to /system from the unzipped rom
what device?
Whole folder at once would be easier but doesn't matter just make sure permission are rwxr-xr-x
Easiest way to change perms is with a root file explorer, I use es explorer in settings enable root then mount system as write, long hold the file, goto properties then change permission. Or adb remount chmod not sure of the actual perm set you'll have to search.

Never figured out how to change perms. Should I download source and do it like that?
Okay, now where can I get the bin folder? Should I factory reset? Would that work?
Unzip the ROM drill to system/

Hello all, I have the latest "]RUNNYCRUX RSK TEAM ★ with AMAZE CAM" rom on my phone. I'm trying to enable logcat because I need to to debug an application I'm developing. I have commented all parts in external scripts that deal with logcat but there is one left in init.d. the 02Logger which does an rm on the logcat file. How can I disable or delete this script? I get a "read only file system" when I'm trying to delete it.
Is it possible or do I have to delete it before flashing the rom?
U can simply remove it from .zip before flashing ROM, or use file explorer with SU rights like Root Explorer to mount system r/w and remove the script within ROM.
This is not forum for asking questions btw, it's development section..
Code:
su
mount -o remount rw system
cd system/etc/init.d
rm (not sure if have to include -rf) 02logger
Done
