Lost my phone - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Just lost my phone in taxi I'm rooted also have face unlock and pattern unlock secondary. Is there anything I can do to assure the finder can't use it. Or can I track it. I'm on monthly 4g so no insurance!

If your rooted and all that good stuff you should know how easy it is to just go into recovery and wipe everything. Sorry to say the driver has a new toy. He can't see your stuff tho if that's what you care about. And your pics are exposed as well since they are most likely on your sdcard.

Doubt the driver will know how to do that, anyways unless you had an app like Where's my Droid or something similar to that, you are pretty screwed. Unless the driver is a nice guy and returns it

If you have LookOut security
If you have installed something like lookout security/virus scan on the device (even the free version), you can locate the device and see it on a GPS map from their website sign in page. Also, you can set an alarm (annoying sound) to go off on the phone; nice feature...lets the person know you can tract the phone.
I'm sure (as other's have mentioned) there are other apps that do the same thing...maybe you had a Google Latitude account and you had it set up?? that would work also.
Good Luck, sorry to hear what happened to you...it sucks, I know how you feel!

My phone got stolen.

Hello, today my baby just got stolen by a bunch of ********! somehow after an hour in gym at school, i look and my phone isn't there. I called it and it sounded like a jerk *****. Anyway, i tried to install Plan B but looks like he shutdown the phone or that my stupid gps isnt locking like it always does because of ICS! is there any chance i can track it? I'm a prepaid consumer so insurance is impossible.
You should call the cops and tell them its an iPhone 5 prototype and I'm sure they would get a swat team involved like they did last time.
If Gps isn't working it looks like you might be out of luck bro.

Invest in the app on play market called gotya I swear it works they try and open your phone and put pin a wrong key bam takes a silent pic of them send it to Facebook and sends you a location GPS spot in your email that you can give the police then you get your phone back

OMG LOL!!! the guy who stole it told me ill never get my phone back. now after i went home and tried to install stuff, the school called me and they told me they found it in the floor. Looks like the guy didn't like Face Unlock! in his face!
What if they know the buttons to hard reset the phone? I mean its not really that hard but the only thing you can do now is call tmo and let them know what's up. Get a police report and file an insurance claim through ASSurion. Assuming you have insurance.

98% of people who own a smartphone are complete buffoons and really don't deserve to have them. The only reason the average Joe gets an expensive piece of hardware is to have bragging rights. Most iPhone users don't know what a jailbreak is nor do android users know what a root is.

Is there and app that will...

I think my girlfriend is going thru my phone when I'm in the shower, going to grab and bite to eat, or anytime I leave my cell phone around that gives her the opportunity to look thru it. BTW..I'm not cheating on her.
Is there an app out there that will log when someone uses/unlocks my phone and or sends a pic of her when she tries to access my phone. I don't believe in unlock passwords, cause I have nothing to hide.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance!!

You could always clear your recent app history and check it when you think she looked at it unless she would know how to clear that. Then you would know what she opened too.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Get the app with the password but give her the password. Set that app up but use nova launcher to hide it. Give her the password upfront but just tell hr you want a secure. But in all honesty, crazy girls like that are hard to deal with. Unless you're very patient and love her you might want to reconsider. I once got in trouble for two girls talking about my small ears in Korean on a subway. Though I am Korean I don't know the language but my crazy gf at the time did. Un****ing real the situations you can go through with women like that.
...
Best advice is ask her.
Yeah people lie, but if you have nothing to hide she should have put that together by now. If you've proved trustworthy and she still has issues then talking about it would be far better then trying to bust her looking for something that isn't there.
Wife and I have open phone policy. Look at it all you want.
/Lecture. Sorry...
Sounds like something Tasker profile might be able to do. That apps options are almost limitless!

Another option would be starting a logcat > logcat.text command (can't remember thr exact code) and that will show the screen go up and what apps are loaded and such

Use face unlock. It's not as telling of suspicion as switching to a pin code, but if you're having to assume she's snooping, as opposed to blatantly picking it up in front of you and cruising around it for sh!ts and gigs(my wife) , then it stands to reason that she's not going to confront you about it, if you just decided to use a "nifty feature you like on the phone"

Avast for lost/stolen device tracking, allows device disable if the SIM is changed. Also allows you to lock, unlock, wipe, sound alarm by SMS. Hopefully I never need to use it.
From what i understand any perceived need for antivirus/malware scanning will disappear with 4.2 and the new Play Store.

Antivirus apps are pointless.
For lost/stolen I've been loving SeekDroid for a while now. Very nice app and works with out fail any time I test it.
Search for pdroid !
Btw antivirus = gimmick nothing else !
That's a good app I used to use it but it gets owned by cerberus. Try that it has way more features for a one time 3.99 fee. U can test free for a week.

+1 for seekdroid. Got it for free from Amazon a while ago but have found that its pretty good. Haven't had to 'test' it for real just yet but gives me a bit of piece of mind.
Reality is that if your phone is stolen, likelihood of getting it back is pretty slim. For me, real important part would be able to wipe my data to protect myself from anything more than losing a couple hundred bucks on a device.
None, I don't believe in them. If my phone gets lost or stolen then that's that, little can be done afterwards. Police often times wont help and knocking on the persons door and demanding the phone will get you nowhere except property trespassing. Even then, I doubt my offender would want to use any of my information stored on my phone. Any smart thief would know to wipe the phone clean to avoid any of these apps which don't do much. As far a viruses go, really? The only reason anti-virus apps where made was to satisfy the needs of the paranoid, lets leave it at that.
I was mainly speaking of anti theft app, and not to get the phone back, but yes to wipe everything!

cerebus. it's great. went to the washroom and left my phone in my meeting room. i come back and check my email and there's a photo of my co-worker trying to punch in the wrong PIN code. lol.
I dont have one installed right now, but when I do it's Lookout. I have had lookout stop installation for an app before, I was sideloading it. I dont keep one installed for normal use of the phone and Play Store, but if I was going to be sideloading apps again I would use it for that.
Cerberus is by far the best security app I've used.

I'm on Domination TW Rom which is stock based. This doesn't work. I can see it quickly flashes the Home screen but it goes to the lock pin entry screen immediately. Pressing the Power button right when it flashes the home screen doesn't work either. Maybe Samsung fixed it in 4.1.1 or the awesome guys at Domination fixed it.

This is not an exploitation of lockscreen shortcuts. This an exploitation of a secured lockscreen and bypassing it completely. This means the shortcuts are irrelevant because they can access EVERYTHING on your phone.

Doing it only a couple of times may not work. It took me almost 20 to make it happen the first time. Then it took only twice. Again 4 times. Once I had gotten in, I could turn the screen off and whenever I decided to look again I went straight to homescreen...no lockscreen...until I rebooted. Once I had exploited, I had access to everything on my phone. Since it only requires a little patience, anyone who is determined to get in will do so. The fact that the steps have been plastered everywhere makes it even more potentially dangerous. The problem lies in TW framework and 4.1.1 is not immune. As best as I can tell, neither is 4.2 since it affects the Note II as well.
From my understanding, you need to be able to click a shortcut on the lock screen for the exploit to work? Unless I read it wrong..
Hence, no shortcuts on my lock screen, no exploit.
*edit - nevermind I see how it is done.. however after about 30 tries I cannot reproduce on my stock S3

This whole issue for me is hilarious. The blogs post the actual instructions for people to do this so then possibly wanna be thiefs will actually know bow to do this. Either way. Most people who steal phones don't care about your personal info. Its easier to Google a hard reset on most phones through hardware keys than by fiddleing with security codes and special methods mentioned here. What's to stop someone from taking my sgs3 and booting it into recovery through hardware keys and resetting it. Pop out the Sim card and its all theirs, brand spanking new. No special methods. Lol . seriously guys. This is why I don't use lock screen passwords or codes. My phone is either always with me or in a locked area. Its my own fault if I leave it for someone to steal. What's even funnier is I saw a similar exploit for the iPhone. Same deal. Hook it up to itunes and its reset. Wow.....

Your kinda speaking ignorantly maybe where you live is like that but in bigger cities Like New York your thing might be stolen by just using it on the train. On any train crime happens anywhere in ny, so sometimes is not "someone's fault" that their phone is gone.

Sorry if that's what it sounded. I live in a big city too. I meant this more to the fact that no one asks for their stuff to be stolen but this "exploit" seems silly when smart phones comes with a hard hard reset option. So no matter how much security you place your stuff is viable to be erased . unless you have other means of recovering that data.

Fraudulent Charges

Hello,
Since flashing most recent ROM, I have noticed 5 "Google" purchases, for Apps and 1 other unknown Google charge. These apps, etc. are not familiar to me, nor have any relevance to any past purchased apps or recent app searches in Play.
I have reason to believe it's directly related to the ROM, as there is particular identifying information included in the statement.
I'll be doing the obvious, filing a claim, yada yada bullshi*.
Has anyone else had this happen? Not cool.
Thanks,

Hey Epic,
To be honest I've seen surprising things in account data for both Lifeless and CM. I've noticed new card numbers, etc. After flashing. I paid no mind thinking it may have been a devs card number somehow merging with my account, and quickly deleted. However, it may be a Google account hack.
Either way, it may be something to confirm, if this type of information is capable of spreading accidentally in development.

you havent posted your EFS anywhere online have you? If your efs falls into the wrong hands people can "clone your phone" and make purchases... altho those would be carrier purchases and I believe are charged to your monthly bill.
as the charge on your sprint bill... or an entirely separate google invoice?
