[Q] Wifi WPA PSK no connection - HTC One X

I have a new One X and cannot connect to my work WiFi with WPA PSK security.
What can be done?
HTC told me there us no support for this security support for this and directed me to buy an app.
Any help appreciated.

I had the same problem. i switched to WPA2 and it works now.

[Q] how to get WEP to work?!

Hi, I cant get Wif-Ace to work( it just goes to a black screen when i open it) and when it works I dont know how to set it up so i can use wifi! Can you help?!
Try this version from google code. It works fine on my TP2. As far as settings, I basically turned off everything except WEP password. It depends on how your wireless router is set up. Just match wifi-ace settings to what is on your router.
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-ace/downloads/detail?name=WiFiACE-0.10-20100924.apk
WEP is EXTREMELY insecure. If you have any option, get rid of WEP. If it's not your router, tell whoever owns the router that it is a very insecure protocol and any script kiddie with a laptop can bust into it in less than 2 minutes.
Don't use WEP!!!!
But i need WEP so i can download apps faster!!!

Uh... what? You really think it's that much faster than WPA? Might as well just run an open network. I seriously doubt that WPA/2 adds that much overhead...
di what i do change my modem to wpa2 more fast and more secure before wep easy hack
wep i have ap rogram with the madem of you modem i now you speedtouch password
how do you change it to WPA2

How did you change it to WEP?
The security settings are in your router. Kinda outside of the scope of not just XDAndroid, but xda-devs in general.
I didnt change it to WEP, it just came that way when i bought internet and i dont think i can change it to WPA2 cause i have 2WIRE

Tell your provider then.
i use is wpa2-psk and work with everything waring when you have to this key you have to reconnect everything to the router (put the password again to every equipment). one time i used wpa2 the first some with the modem and docent work very well

2WIRE gateways support WPA/2.
Thanks emanuelrv, I changed it to WPA2

ad-hoc support

Hi guys,
As the title suggest , is there an ad-hoc support for the gn?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
any answer????
Openen Hotspot with Connectify
-Nokia E51 connects (with and without encryption)
-Samsung Galaxy Nexus doesn't even show the hotspot.
adding the network manually is not working either

i tired every app and method available with no luck
i think the solution is to add ad-hoc support
I think the default wpa-supplicant doesn't support adhoc. We need to replace it with one that supports. I don't know if someone has made/fixed it yet. Still waiting for it as well.
Ad.Hoc
did you manage to connect through Ad.Hoc? I cannot find Adhoc in my Galaxy Note!! Can we enable AdHoc on Note?
Also need to use adhoc but my Nexus doesn't detect any...
i will try tonight,as i has my laptop at my GF's house.and wont be there until tonight .
but yha. if nobody has posted til than.
than be sure to watch out for my post
Btw,did any one of you guys try wifi direct?
im kinda unsure what it really does.
Did some search in Google and previous NEXUS had the same problem some users were telling to change wpa_supplicant in /system/bin but I think the one they where providing its not compatible with SGN.
As someone already said, I am not even able to see the an adhoc wifi network with my Galaxy Nexus.
My device is rooted but so far I did not find an easy solution to enable adhoc wifi.
However the same adhoc network works perfectly with an EEEpad transformer, so apparently the wifi client is already modified in the Asus tablet.
Has there been any update to this? Been searching this site and others and it doesn't seem like a wpa-supplicant file that can see Ad-hoc networks has been created yet.
I use Connectify - works pefectly.
Supposedly the 4.0.2 update should bring ad-hoc support.
I'm eagerly awaiting the roll-out... (Should have happened ages ago, but somehow it's taking quite a while to propagate everywhere.)
I suppose you could always go ahead and flash your own ROM, but personally I prefer to wait for the official OTA update.
I'm using a 4.0.3 ROM and before that had stock 4.0.2 and no ad hoc support was/is available. There is Wifi Direct which acts like ad hoc but that only works with other Wifi Direct devices.

Oh, Bother!
I was betting on 4.0.2 to solve this, but as you say, it appears that it's only the wifi-direct that frequently gets billed as 'ad-hoc-like' connection.
Is there any other way to enable ad-hoc connections?
Apparently on other devices there exist modified wpa_supplicant files that enable ad-hoc, but so far I haven't seen anything for the GN.

Unfortunately I'm running XP (yeah I know ) here at the office so Connectify won't work - no access point connections on XP.
any possible solution?
Use bluetooth to connect to your computer and share your internet connection with your phone.
I've tried it on windows xp.

Galaxy W Wifi Drop Problem...

Hi everyone,
I'm using Galaxy W with stock ROM (XXLA2/rooted) and ZyXel (P-660HW-T1 v3) wireless router. I can connect and use wireless home network for a period of time but after a while WiFi drops and then reconnects. This repeats continuously...
I've tried switching WPA2 to WPA also tried using MAC filter only (without WiFi pass), but all of them were useless... Changing from dynamic to static IP also did not worked
I tried a couple of Market apps to fix WiFi issue, but they did not help me either...
Do u have any idea what may cause my WiFi drop problem?
I need your help...
Thanks...
Have you the latest firmaware on your Zyxel?
And is your phone only having problems with this router or all access points? (just to determe the problem eg your phone or your router)
Edit: Try to set the "ReAuthentication" setting higher (9000), i think that solves your problem!
Yes my ZyXel firmware is up to date.
I could not have chance to test my phone with other access points
By the way where can I find the "ReAuthentication Setting" ?

Don't know .... i did read your user manual, but didnt pay attention where this settings is....
You have to try to find it yourself
Ok, i found it and set to 9999 max value
I'm testing it, i hope i do not get any more drop
Thanks for your interest...
Well you can get a drop, but its only every 2.7 hour, if thats not ok, you could try to set it to 0 maybe then re authentication is fully off.
Setting the value to 0 sounds good Then it will become something like WEP i think...
Anyway I'll try also this...
Thanks...
please don't use wep keys as they are awful weak
stay with wpa or wpa2
Actually I do not wanna use WEP but since it is static maybe it will help me get a more stable wireless connection. And when i tried WEP for the first time, I noticed signal quality got a abit stronger Is it logical or strange?
I know WPA/WPA2 is more safe but I wonder if using WEP with MAC filter is equivalent to WPA in terms of security issue?

It isn't. Have a read about the differences:
WEP used a 40-bit or 128-bit encryption key that must be manually entered on wireless access points and devices and does not change. TKIP employs a per-packet key, meaning that it dynamically generates a new 128-bit key for each packet and thus prevents the types of attacks that compromised WEP.[3]

(From the Wikipedia Wi-Fi_Protected_Access page - I can't paste the link as I'm a new forum user)
I see...
I'd better keep using WPA/WPA2.
Thanks for the explanation...

MAC filter security is the best, and even much better than WPA or WPA2!
The advantage is that MAC id's are like a footprint for a network card, like a DNA.
The disadvantage is that every device you want to add you have to do it manually.
Good luck!
my phone does drop wifi sometimes too.

Sorry dude, but i can't let you say such a thing.
MAC filter can improve security with encryption but cannot replace WPA/WPA2.
I can crack your mac filtering with WEP security within 10 minutes or less. Just sniffing promiscious packets from your router and identifying your network device MAC address.
Many tools exist to easy change any MAC address from network devices. So no, mac address is not a DNA, because it can be changed easily.
So, the best is still WPA2 Entreprise (but it needs Radius Server) or WPA2 personnal with AES encryption. And MAC filtering is good idea, but not alone !.
Thanx mate.....I was just gonna post a link about MAC spoofing and how insecure MAC filtering is.
Here it is anyway:

Bad luck
I do not understand, although I tried wifi connection with WEP without MAC filtering and also WPA (with "0" & "9999" reauthentication setting) I still get drops
Any other idea/suggestion?
(as a reminder: I'm using Galaxy W with stock ROM (XXLA2/rooted) and ZyXel (P-660HW-T1 v3) wireless router)
I'm still having wi-fi drop issue with also custom ROMs...
Is it possible to replace/update modem driver?
Do you have any other idea?
I need help...

mobile hotspot not working

I subscribe to a tethering plan, but mobile hotspot isn't working.
Setting network security to "Open" works, but otherwise, if I use wpa or wpa2, no
client devices (a HTC one S, toshiba laptop running linux) will connect. They
just attempt to connect and give up without any type of diagnostic message.
I really hope I don't have to reset the phone to defaults after setting everything up.

I do have hotspot active on the account. As I said, it works If I set the security settings to none.
Also if i put my SIM into my HTC one S, mobile hotspot works there with WPA2.
It's been really iffy for me. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I'll connect with a laptop but have limited connectivity. Not sure if it's something on T-Mobile's end of the phone itself. Barnacle doesn't work great either.

Did you add the tethered device's (i.e. your laptop) MAC address?
In TMO's stock firmware, you have to add the MAC addresses that are allowed to connect. I did not see anyway to turn this requirement off, nor did I see it documented anywhere.

Cannot connect to a 802.1x EAP wifi network

Hi. i am using the latest Cynageon mod RC5 release rom and i am trying to connect to a 802.1x EAP security wifi connection here at work that uses PEAP method and i am unable to authenticate and connect to this wireless network.
Any suggestions?
it works on an android device running older then 3.0 as i checked on my HTC desire. It also works fine on my ipad and ipod touch devices.
I have also tried a Galaxy note that runs standard touchwizard Rom with no rooting and i even tried a Nexus 4 and all do not work

Yes youre correct my HOX with 4.1.1 and Tablet with CM 10.1 cannot enter the network because they will see the security as WPA. But you can install an app called advanced wifi config. Just edit another access point and rename it to your work wifi name. And then edit the security as 802.1x, PEAP, your domain, username, etc. And then use your luck so that your phone will connect to the wifi automatically because you cannt do it manual
